You can probably still manage with the old PSU, but upgrading would definitely serve you well. My suggestion would be the [EVGA 650 GQ] (https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Modular-Crossfire-Warranty-210-GQ-0650-V1/dp/B017HA3SQ8/), good efficiency and around $75

u/Gronks69thTD · 5 pointsr/buildapc

Substitute this PSU and I think it's a great build.

u/iAreDerp · 3 pointsr/buildapc

If you're willing to step down to a semi modular power supply, then this would be a good choice

It's not made by Super Flower or Seasonic, but it scored pretty high on JonnyGuru.

u/MMWDMP · 3 pointsr/buildapc

That's pretty borderline. If you're spending $1167 on a rig you can spend an extra $30 compared to the other PSU on a high quality PSU like this one.

u/whiteknucklesuckle · 3 pointsr/buildapcsales

I'm sorry, what does GS/PS mean? Is that in reference to the rating of the PSU? like Gold/Platinum? I have a 650W Gold EVGA PSU and a white case, I would love to buy these cables but I'm confused as to whether I should or not....

Damn thats a good deal. Unfortunately a little low on the wattage :( Anyone know of any good PSU deals at a higher wattage? i.e. 600W and up?

Edit: Ended up buying this guy for a pretty good price.

u/patrick13633 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

There's a deal right now for a really good PSU:
Link: https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Modular-Warranty-Supply-210-GQ-0650-V1/dp/B017HA3SQ8
It's a gold efficiency semi-modular PSU (it also has nice black cables instead of the horrifying red, orange, black cable mess that is cheap power supplies.

u/RickGrimesLol · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Your link to the current build doesn't work.. Just post it here including what GPU you plan on upgrading to. That PSU is good, but you won't need 750w unless you're doing SLI/xfire.

Check out the EVGA GQ 650w. It is better than the G1 you posted and cheaper. If you wait to scope out a deal you can get it even cheaper(just got mine for $55 after rebate).

u/illuxion · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

It might save you a few bucks over it's lifetime. If you're using 400w while gaming 20%, or about 80W, is being wasted to heat. Like leaving an extra 75W light bulb on when you're gaming. A gold PS at 400w is close to 90% efficient so you're wasting 40w instead of 80w. It will save a few bucks but it's not the end of the world. After Gold rating they get expensive fast for diminishing returns. 80+ Platinum is 92% at middle load and 80+ Titanium is 94% at middle load. Cheapest Platinum I found was $100 for a Rosewill(no thanks), and cheapest Titanium is over $200.

Edit, oops the other one I linked was bronze. This one is gold but $70 though it would probably pay for itself in a year.

u/devothemoonbear · 2 pointsr/buildapc

This is good; however, you can get an EVGA 650W GQ for $69.99 on Amazon. Not necessary, just a better deal.

u/Roodydude · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Your CPU and GPU combo are great for 1440p gaming. I have a 2600 and Vega 64, and I consistently hit over 100 fps on 1440p games like Destiny 2 and Apex Legends with proper overclocks/undervolts.

From what I understand, the 2060 Super is a bit stronger than the 64 so you should be good.

I also have the same monitor and love it, so good choice there.

In regards to storage, it depends on your budget. I have this one as my boot drive, and works great: WD 500GB m.2

Obviously you can choose larger storage if your budget allows.

Power supply: EVGA 650W Power Supply

I have this one and it works reliably. According to your parts, a 650W should be safe enough, but again, your budget really determines how you go with this.

u/Todesfaelle · 1 pointr/bapcsalescanada

Was in the same boat. Amazon has the EVGA 650 GQ for $100.86 and by all accounts it's a very solid model.

You could stand to go much lower than a 650 though.

u/cokomel · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

this or this for a 4590(not overclocked) and a single r9 390?

The laptop won't be used, because I already got an laptop for school, but I might use the gaming laptop for travel etc. I could take either the SSD or HDD from the laptop, so the laptop still has one of them? Example take the SSD, and leave the HDD's behind, Or take the HDD's and leave the SSD behind, or maybe even take one of the HDD's and the SSD and leave one HDD behind? Which sounds best?

And with the money I saved there, I can buy a 650w gold PSU from EVGA for only like 30$ more ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B017HA3SQ8/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1495055549&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=evga+gq+650w&dpPl=1&dpID=51EyCz-JKoL&ref=plSrch )

Not really anything in that price range, especially considering there's a rebate. Maybe order off of Amazon instead, EVGA 650GQ, $69.99.

Boom. You would save a little bit and you can upgrade the GPU in the near future for gaming a better settings. For now though, this thing is fine.

Edit: I would take the extra 100$ and buy this psu, as Prebuilts almost always have VERY sketchy PSUs. Other than that, you should be set for gaming on 1080p or 1440p on 60 fps

That, and get a good quality PSU rather than just some random 430W one. I'd recommend something like this, can't really be beat for the price.

u/Gamst11 · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

Unless you want a modular one, I'd say get this one, it's seasonic made with japanese capacitors, and a 5 year warranty, I couldn't find anything better for 50 usd, if you want a modular one this one might be a good option https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Modular-Warranty-Supply-210-GQ-0650-V1/dp/B017HA3SQ8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1480212254&sr=8-1&keywords=psu+evga+gq

Looks like a solid build, Including a wide 1440p monitor could easily bring you over 1500, so heres some options to reduce the price on your current one without impacting performance.

1: switch to a good quality b450 motherboard. This one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XHH4YG4?tag=pcpapi-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1 supports ryzen 3rd gen out of the box.

2: Go down to a 650 watt power supply. This one https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Modular-Warranty-Supply-210-GQ-0650-V1/dp/B017HA3SQ8/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=650+watt+power+supply&qid=1572129915&s=electronics&sr=1-3 is listed for 25$ less than your 750.

4: This ssd https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Rocket-Internal-Performance-SB-ROCKET-1TB/dp/B07LGF54XR/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=1tb+nvme+ssd&qid=1572130266&s=electronics&sr=1-7 is 50$ cheaper with the same storage and read/write speeds of 3,500/2,500 MB/s (samsung), 3450 MB/s (read) and 3000 MB/s (write). Notes:

GPU - I was also considering the 5700XT which gets pretty cheap at Micro Center. I feel like the 2070 Super is worth the upgrade, but I'd like some input here.

Mobo - I was also looking at the Asrock B450 which is $65 cheaper at Micro Center when combined with the CPU. I was reading that you need a 2nd Gen Ryzen to flash the BIOS though? Also that it's not as good for overclocking.

Windows - Is this guide for free windows legit? https://www.windowscentral.com/you-do-not-need-activate-windows-10

Cooling - Are there any cooling concerns with this build? Aftermarket coolers I should buy or fans I should add to the case?

General advice - I've built a PC in the past but just kind of plugging everything in and hoping it worked. Any guides that you could give me would be appreciated. Voltages to check, how to overclock the CPU, overclocking the RAM, any fine tuning for the GPU, testing to make sure the IPS monitor doesn't have backlight bleeding, I've never used a modular power supply before, etc.

u/fresh_leaf · 1 pointr/buildapc

Pretty decent, though I'd consider going with an ASRock mobo for official BCLK overcloking support and getting a slightly beefier cooler like the Cryorig H7. I'd also get a different PSU. EVGA's NEX units sub 1000w are pretty average. Perhaps go with the GQ instead, it's actually a little cheaper before rebate and has free shipping from amazon...

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B017HA3SQ8/?tag=pcpapi-20

It's only semi-modular, but that matters little IMO...

Lastly, do you really need a 144Hz freesync panel for "light gaming"? For example you could get a 1440p 60Hz IPS panel for $254, or perhaps a 3440x1440 IPS 'ultra-wide' for an extra $50, which would be considerably better for video editing.

u/ArchieTheStarchy · 1 pointr/buildapc

I'd go for an R9 380 over the GTX 960. This Sapphire 380 is only $10 more than the 960 on Amazon and is generally considered a better performance/price deal.

That PSU is also somewhat on the expensive side for only being Bronze certified, I'd go for this Gold certified EVGA GQ 650W. It's only semi-modular but that doesn't make all too much of a difference. SeaSonic PSUs are considered very high quality but I think that one is overpriced.

Also is there any reason you're going for the Seagate HDD as opposed to the widely popular Western Digital 1TB which is only $50?

You could probably buy a cheaper motherboard and not have much of a performance hit too, but if the extra PCI 3.0 slots and the audio card is worth it to you, then whatever floats your boat. It should be noted it has an M.2 slot for faster SSD connection and you don't have an SSD.

I've looked around and I've found some options. The lower the price the better it is for me. Tell me what you think of these:

With the wiggle room in your budget, I think you should go for a Ryzen 5 1600, an ASRock B450M Pro 4 motherboard, and a nicer power supply. Something 650W with a longer warranty (like this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017HA3SQ8/). Then, if there's money left over, get faster RAM--3000 or 3200 GHz or better, CAS latency 16 or 14.

Do you live near a MicroCenter? They have a really good deal on the Ryzen 5 1600--$80 plus tax. They also offer an additional $30 discount if you bundle it with a motherboard. Here's a couple good bundles (for reference, you're paying $167 for your current CPU and mobo):
https://www.microcenter.com/product/5002846/amd-ryzen-5-1600-with-wraith-spire-cooler,-asus-rog-strix-x470-f-gaming,-cpu---motherboard-bundle

https://www.microcenter.com/product/5002845/amd-ryzen-5-1600-with-wraith-spire-cooler,-asus-prime-x470-pro,-cpu---motherboard-bundle
I couldn't find the bundle link for the motherboard I listed above, but it says it's eligible for the offer, too.

Also, AMD will be announcing the next generation of Ryzen CPUs (3000 series) in a few days at Computex. We expect prices will drop after that on the current and last gen models (1000 and 2000 series). So it might be a good idea to wait a few days.

Is he dead set on that case and power supply? I’d upgrade them just a little so they make more sense. For example, $10 more on the case and you get the Corsair Carbide 275r with better cable management and nicer build quality. Also, for another $10 over what you’re paying on that PSU you can get an EVGA 650W 80+ Gold unit.

u/SouthernTrees · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I'd personally recommend a different PSU, as others have mentioned.
This or this would actually be the same or cheaper than the Corsair (assuming you're ordering from Amazon or Newegg), is Gold certified, fully modular, and has much better internal components than the Corsair does.

Your friend might run that PSU without issues, but a lot of people have run into issues with Corsair PSUs, and just because his works doesn't mean yours will. Just my two cents, take it with a grain of salt, I'd just want to make sure that my PSU is as good as it could be, especially if you're spending close to $1,500 on your build.

u/PrionBacon · 1 pointr/buildapc

If you don't want your $1000 desktop to catch on fire or permanently break, I highly recommend you replace your power supply.

A 6 pin PCI-E connector is not build to draw 150W. This can cause issues within the power supply which can damage all parts of your desktop.

Also remember that when you switch the power supply, NEVER USE any modular cables from the previous power supply. There is no standard for them so although it may be the same connection to the power supply, the wiring may be completely different. ONLY use the power cables from your new power supply.

If you are not going to crossfire, I recommend this supply: https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Modular-Crossfire-Warranty-210-GQ-0650-V1/dp/B017HA3SQ8/

I'm making some upgrades to my computer, specifically the case and PSU and adding an SSD. I know I'm getting the 850 Evo but having trouble deciding on a case and power supply. For the case, I'm looking for something with either a white/blue or white/black (or black/white) color theme. My main concern with getting a while one though is that I have a black DVD drive and I'd either need to paint my drive white or get one with a door. I like the look of the Bitfenix and NZXT ones so I've been looking mostly at those but I'm open to suggestions for anything I've missed. These are the main ones I'm looking at:

Bitfenix Shinobi Black or White
NZXT Phantom 410

Any opinions on these would be appreciated. Also trying to figure out which power supply to get. Going for semi-modular, I have a 500 watt right now and don't really need any more for now but it wouldn't hurt to get something bigger I guess. Currently looking at these:

EVGA 750 B1
EVGA 650 GQ
Corsair CX650M
Corsair CX750M

Any insight into any of this would be super helpful. This will be my first real upgrade other than adding a hard drive.

u/RedBehrend · 1 pointr/buildapc

IMO I would recommend going 16GB ram because it's so cheap these days and if I edit a video I can easily hit 2GB with just the exe file. Plus you get to use both channels instead of one, You'll probably never update your ram again until you get a new board.

For the power supply I would get at least a gold rated EVGA 650W with a promo code or sale you could get pretty much at the same price. (Example on Amazon EVGA 650 GQ 80+ GOLD ) They go cheaper just showing a quick example and reviews are your friend.

I'm doing this on the go so sorry for not updating your build.

As for the price check out pcparkpicker graph on the item and you can judge where the price is about. It's not perfect but it'll give you an idea.
