You have a couple options. XBOX and PS controllers will work on your phone but not directly. The easiest option is to get an "on the go" (OTG) cable that converts USB micro to regular USB and plug a wired modern controller into the OTG cable. When I say wired I mean you have to have it plugged into your Xbox or PS to play on that system. Modern bluetooth controllers (xbox/ps) with the recharge cables have different setups.

I only have a wireless Xbox controller. I bought the OTG and receiver cables linked below. I tried only for a few minutes to get it working but gave up pretty quick. Plenty of people have gotten this to work and I'm sure I could as well if I tried a bit harder.

I ended up buying the 8BitDo controller to play OG Mario and I really like it. I ended up ordering another one for my wife for Christmas. I bought an MHL adapter and play Super Mario and Contra from my couch on my Plasma with my bluetooth controller. Its pretty slick.

If you use the modern console controllers you aren't able to use the MHL HDMI cable. I know there are other options to throw your phone screen on the TV but I found this the easiest option. I vaguely remember having an issue getting my phone in landscape mode with Chromecast casting.

My Setup

Classic NES Controller It has top trigger buttons as well, all of these are programmable depending on what emulator you use.

OTG Cable Nothing fancy about these, with this one you are supposed to be able to plug a power cable into the extra pigtail to help charge your device while playing. I have used this to plug in a regular USB memory stick, a full size keyboard, and a few other items for testing purposes. Everything worked wonderful.

Wireless Gaming Receiver

MHL adapter I price matched this and a micro SD card at Best Buy. This also has a power port on it which I have used.

Also check out /r/androidgaming for more info or reqs on other controllers besides the ones I've listed.

I use this one:

https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Braided-Tangle-Free-Gold-Plated-Connectors/dp/B01DEMTOQ6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1492811211&sr=8-1&keywords=anker+micro+usb+cable

Having a long cable is pretty useful, and having a braided cable makes it pretty durable. Ignore the gold plated part, but I think this cable does its job pretty well.

Copied this from another comment I made a few months ago:

I use this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Magnetic-InfiniApps-Mount-Car-Smartphones/dp/B00DPMNNUO

It fits into the CD slot which I never use. It comes with a metal plate, which I've put inside the phone behind the back cover. This is what holds the phone magnetically to the mount.

I have a short USB cable leading from the charger port to the phone.

I am very happy with it. It holds my phone really securely and doesn't block the screen at all in landscape orientation. It does block it a little in portrait orientation but I don't mind too much.

Overall for $20 I'm very happy, and it's lasted several years.

I bought this one, and can vouch that it's amazing, compact and works wonderfully (plus you get 4 ports instead of just one. However, only one port is Quick Charge 2.0)

Galaxy Note Pro 12.2" is probably the closest you can get to the Note phone. Not sure if they're coming out with a new version soon or not.

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-Note-Wi-Fi-Black/dp/B00HWMPSK6

There's also the Note 10.1 as other users have suggested.

Not helpful for your situation, but I was also looking for a tablet similar to my Note that I could take notes with. Landed up getting a Microsoft Surface 3, and have absolutely loved it.

Ninja edit: the issue with the newer Samsung tablets, such a the galaxy tab you mentioned, is that they don't have an s pen. The Note Pro and the 10.1 do have an s pen. So see if that is important before making a decision.

I second The_Big_Elf's recommendations. Also you should probably get at least a 32GB card. You will be surprised how little the price varies between 8-16-32 and even 64GB. For example, here are current prices for SanDisk Ultra Class 10 cards sold directly by Amazon in the US (not by third-party sellers):

16GB for $9.99

32GB for $13.27

64GB for $21.99

You will see a list of all the sizes near the top of the page so you can easily compare.

I make gaming videos and I usually use my Note 4 as a facecam. The recording quality is amazing especially with smooth recording turned on in video mode (now FHD 60p on Lollipop). For tripod use I use an attachment to be able to mount my phone (square jellyfish)

But here's a video you can use for reference:

Here's a link for the Square Jellyfish tripod mount:

And finally a view of my setup:

*Note: the microphone (AT-2020) has not been used in any of my videos. So you can get a feel of the quality of the Note 4's microphone

Galaxy Note 4 Case, ACEABOVE Slim Leather Protective Stand Case For Samsung Galaxy Note 4 [SM-N910S / SM-N910C] (Black) by AceAbove http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NANBMD8/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_wp6oub0MSQYAR

That's the one I found. I ordered it. Should get to me in a few weeks.

I would rather have one that flips open from the bottom (as opposed to flipping from the side like this one), but I can't find any of those.

There are also some wallet ones on Amazon, but I'm not interested in those.

Hey, if you find any others, will you please let me know?

u/frescani · 3 pointsr/galaxynote4

I imagine one of the wallet types would be a better bet for this. Wider base, more stability. Here are several.

Here is the one I am using. Ringke Slim and wow it is SLIM.

I didn't like the idea of the giant rugged case that the ZL has on it so I went with the 8k Hyperion then got one of their rubber cases that will fit it and I'm very please.

u/mrpickem1 · 2 pointsr/galaxynote4

None fit perfectly, but any is better than none.

I'm currently using Zero Lemon but still halo effect on edges.

How about an external charger? You can also try cleaning the USB port with a toothpick. Sometimes crud builds up and you can bend the pin up to make better contact. You'll have to split the toothpick to make it thin enough. This has worked for me two times with other phones.

I can't be much help in that department. I've never experienced any GPS issues. I have the N910T3 model. But, this is the micro SD card that I've had in my phone for awhile. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B010Q57T02/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1467993399&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40&keywords=micro+sd+card+32gb&dpPl=1&dpID=41f7MricNhL&ref=plSrch

I've used this brand in my phone since my s3 and haven't ever had issues :)

u/bigrigtrig · 1 pointr/galaxynote4

If you have a Verizon Note 4, this is a Supcase with the right hole setup. Its a solid case, and it has protection in all the right spots. Really doesn't add much weight or girth to the phone, and it's plenty grippy.

u/sureguy · 6 pointsr/galaxynote4

Try an external charger? I have one that came with my Anker batteries. Warning - the anker batteries tend to puff up after some use.

Something like this: https://www.amazon.ca/LEMFO%C2%AE-Galaxy-Spare-Battery-Charger/dp/B00UFCRO0W

I had a similar issue with my Nexus 7, and ended up using wireless charging on it.

u/Manslayer109 · 2 pointsr/galaxynote4

Closest thing i could think of is the sview case which has some stitching and its only $6

At first I had the Bear motion which sucked ass. The fit was perfect but it was such a fingerprint magnet. Just installed the zerolemon tempered glass and it's so damn smooth. Only 10 bucks too.

A few times a year for work I need an extended battery as I'm actively on my phone for 12 to 14 hours and dont have time to charge. I got the Hyperion 8000mAh battery and I love it. Yeah its huge, but in normal use I've gone maybe 3 or 4 days without charging it with no problems, and for my extended days of constant use where I'm posting photos and videos to a bunch of social media sites and constantly researching things in browsers it is typically around 30% by the end of the day.

This one, although the reviews are mixed. I figured with Amazon Prime, I've never had an issue with returning shitty products, so I'd give it a shot.

Edit: weird the link isn't formatting.
