The 8Bitdo Sn30 Pro+ controller is a good alternative.

The Shield controller will be getting a refresher soon in the rumor mill. It would be nice since I am really satisfied with the Shield controller.

I like the PS4 dpad more, giving it priority over an Xbox controller.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. You're saying you have a galaxy tab 3 but you're talking about a 5" screen. Do you mean you have the Galaxy S3 phone?

Do you want to connect your phone to your tablet and play your phone games on the tablet? If so, why not download the games on the tablet itself?

If that's not the case, do you mean you want to use your phone as a controller? There are apps for that too.

Lastly, do you want to connect your Samsung device to the TV just like you did with the shield tablet? If so you need a micro usb to hdmi mhl adapter like this.

I have heard hit or miss things about pairing bluetooth controllers to android devices in general.

I know you are looking for a cheap solution, but here is what I use

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00E6553PW

That allows you to hook up a wii u pro controller. IMO the pro controller is one of the best on the market right now, plus you can't beat the 80 hour battery life.

Also grab one of these

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B009YPYORM/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1426861071&sr=8-1&keywords=otg+usb+with+power&dpPl=1&dpID=41%2BzgxysyJL&ref=plSrch&pi=AC_SY200_QL40

It lets you power the device while also using a usb controller or that adapter, which is almost needed for console mode.

We've had an Anker 10-port (7 data, 3 charge) USB 3.0 hub since we purchased our first Shield Pro unit. Works great.

I just googled "best USB 3.0 flash drives" and found this article. It says the Lexar P20 (64GB $30, 128GB $50) is the quickest to copy files and has the fastest read speeds, so I went ahead and bought it. Haven't had any problems using it as adoptive storage.

Found this site in shieldtvfan's link: http://usbflashspeed.com/128Gb

The Lexar ain't the best according to that site, but it's still hanging in with the top 3.

I been using the Infiland case I got last year. It has the Pen hole so it was designed for the original Shield Tablet but its been just fine for me.

Here is a link just in case you change your mind: https://www.amazon.com/Infiland-NVIDIA-SHIELD-Tablet-Case/dp/B00NHDFVEC/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1483971527&sr=8-3&keywords=shield+k1+case

I have this one.

I only use it to control the shield for media. I don’t have paid TV. So, it works fine. The play/pause stuff is high up. But, I can use the middle “OK” button for almost everything. It was on sale for less than $50 at Walmart one day.

You can change how the skip/fwd button works. You can set one to work on a long touch and one for short touch. Or, you can just have one work on either. So, you don’t get unwanted results.

I like it.

It'll work fine. Just need an adapter/housing for SATA to USB. Like this.

I use this without any problems.

Thank you. I was considering this setup https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Harmony-Companion-Control-Entertainment/dp/B00N3RFC4G/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=harmony&qid=1574600307&sr=8-2 (minus alexa) but, given how expensive the Shield is, don't want to fork out the extra bucks. Not even 100% sure this will work with the setup: TV (LG non smart), receiver (for when not using the Shield), and Shield that I'll end up with.
