>Oh, adding a fortified powder in place of a vitamin. That's, unfortunately, trickier. Certain things are more difficult to supplement around. This vitamin whey right? Vitamin D and panthothenic acid were incorrectly transcribed (one extra zero on each). You'll want more Vitamin D as well.

Correct. Yeah I wasn't too worried about D as it's easy to adjust. Thanks for checking the transcription!

>Vitamin C supplements are common enough. Vitamins D and K are frequently paired together in bone health supplements as well. This is one I've used. It comes in capsules which can be opened and added to powder if desired or simply consumed on the side.

Sounds good.

>Niacin, folate, and molybdenum are more difficult to find in targeted supplements. Fortunately I have a few ideas. First, the nutrition information in the People Chow recipe is slightly off. It was compiled from a mix of sources. I recommend the masa entry in the USDA food database. According to that your niacin level is higher than expected. Second, the things you're missing are in the vitamin whey so you may try adjusting that up while reducing the masa an equal amount. Even at 100g or so it doesn't quite make it but it takes the values close. Alternatively you could try a small dose of another vitamin on the side. Capsule multivitamins can be broken and added to powder for partial doses with the rest of your meal or taken at intervals.

Interesting. Im surprised that the nutrition info for Masa is off as it's so popular. Why hasn't he updated the recipe? Also folate supplements are common, I'll probably grab one and add it in.

>Lastly, you didn't mention it but the fiber is a bit off. I've found that People Chow responds very well to added fiber and would recommend a small fiber addition to anyone using. Ground psyllium husk in particular is popular.

Yeah I didn't mention it because it's so easy to adjust.

>I've compiled these recommendation in a recipe copy. It uses the different masa data, retranscribed vitamin whey, 20g more protein powder, and the D3/K2 capsule.

Nice, appreciate it!

>The D3/K2 is probably not all that necessary. You can synthesize D, vitamin K deficiency is so unheard of it was never discovered till someone ran an experiment on chickens. Also the vitamin whey has some. It may be optimal to have more but it will probably not hurt to skip.

I'll check on sourcing a supplement and may add it depending on cost, bottle size and ease.

The main reason I wanted to do this was because I already have the fortified whey and it's super cheap at a local store. Looks like it'll be pretty simple to compensate for its lacking areas and go from there. Moreover it dissolves easily and I dont have any issues with digestion with it, and tasted fine.

I'll check for d3/k2 and folate supplements and add them as needed and update the recipe you linked!

>I'd like to avoid dairy for my acne and digestion so are there any recommendations for vegan "heavy cream"?

It'd be easy to use olive oil, but your MUFA/SFA ratios may not be ideal. I'd like to remove dairy from my diet for the same reasons, but I still use heavy cream because it's easier and tastes better imo. (thankfully i'm on accutane so i'm free to binge on all the dairy i want and my face is fine)

>Is an Omega 3 supplement is recommended?

For general health, yeah.

I use this. I know this sub doesn't like Labdoor too much, but they rate it best for value. I take two capsules a day. I think I feel better when I take my fish oil consistently.

u/Hyliac · 2 pointsr/soylent

I use one of these

Blender Bottle makes good shakers, which is how I prefer to mix my powder most days. The real secret though is those pro stak containers. I picked up the extra 2 pack of larger (250cc) containers as well. The larger ones are the perfect size for a meal of Soylent and the smaller ones are good for snacks.

I generally weigh it all on the scale the night before, snap the containers to the bottle (I usually put a smaller one inside the shaker too) and all I have to grab in the morning is my shaker bottle. I love it!

u/charliegriefer · 1 pointr/soylent

I do two servings either in the morning or the night before. For me that's:

  • 4 scoops Soylent
  • 8 scoops unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 2 scoops protein powder
  • 2 cups of ice cubes

Blend it up and throw it into a thermos. These thermoses are fantastic. I had a smaller one for coffee and it kept the coffee warm for days. Sometimes I wouldn't finish what I brought, and I wouldn't have time that night to clean out the thermos. The following morning I'd clean it out and the coffee'd still be warm.

Just as effective in keeping the Soylent cold.

At night I make myself a single serving and that's it.

3 servings per day. But with the almond milk and protein powder, I'm still at around 2k calories a day.

> perhaps a better contract-manufacturer

Every time I see one of these posts -- which seems like every other day -- my mind shows me a picture of all the other liquid products sold daily in similar bottles, like this or this. Who ever hears of chocolate milk or OJ bottles that split, or have mold under the cap? And there's a gazillion times as many of those bottles moving around the country.

One difference is, the shipping channels are different. Nesquick etc. go in large quantities, whole pallets probably, in big trucks to grocery wholesalers' warehouses. From there they go in wholesalers' trucks to grocery stores, handled by drivers who deliver only groceries.

Just the same, somehow I think Nesquick or Tropicana and other big liquid-food-makers have a better grasp of this. It would be fascinating to hear from somebody who actually knows food packaging and shipping.

u/ukiyoe · 1 pointr/soylent

I add a few scoops of protein and a spoonful of dark chocolate peanut butter to my 1.5, and I love it. Maybe you'll move on from Soylent, but this will make your remaining bags taste pretty darn good.

u/JollyGreenGigantor · 2 pointsr/soylent

I bought a package of measuring scoops (as opposed to measuring cups) a while back and robbed the 1/2 cup scoop to use for my Soylent. 2 scoops per serving.

The powder and scoop live in a pop-top cookie jar. I used the large size of that container and it just fits a week of powder (~21 cups). No need to refrigerate until you add water.

Clean looking container of powder and scoop on the counter look a lot more pleasant than bags which made my GF happy. I'm thinking to get a second one so I can keep the chocolate and regular bags of 100%Food out on the counter instead of choosing one to keep in a bag in the cupboard.

u/fastertoday · 2 pointsr/soylent

Matcha Tea Powder - a little bit goes a long way, just 1-2 teaspoons per serving.

Praire Moon Syrup concentrates - I particularly like coconut, peppermint and key-lime pie. Chocolate with a little bit of the PB2 powdered peanut butter is great too. The fruity flavors aren't as good. The are not bad, just indistinguishable from each other. Marshmello and wedding-cake flavors barely affected the taste at all.

Mix both the tea and the syrups with artificial sweeteners to the taste you prefer. I use:

ez-sweetz liquid surcalose

Acesulfame Potassium (Ace-K)

With the Ace-K you have to be careful not to add too much or the taste switches from sweet to bitter. A combination of sucralose and ace-k often produces a better taste than either of them alone.

u/chudslayer · 3 pointsr/soylent

Maybe try replacing the multivitamin with something like Garden Of Life Raw Meal. It is a natural source of all the same vitamins which means better absorption and nutritional value. http://www.amazon.com/Garden-Life-Raw-Meal-lbs/dp/B0031JK95S

u/Helios-6 · 1 pointr/soylent

> transparent or semi translucent package

I don't believe it's possible with soylent aseptic process. The bottles are multi-layer with oxygen barrier. Jasper products (Soylent's contract manufacturer). If Soylent went with the "Snowman" bottle it might fair better. Ribs help resist denting in thin bottles like this. /u/fernly's Nesquick example uses a ribbed bottle for this reason.

You can get the same protien powder at the Walmart website in a 4 pack deal for really cheap, although, I don't trust that brand because they use "super advanced" on as their selling point. Who knows if what you're getting is actually good protein. This is slightly more expensive, but there are generally better reviews for it.

The chocolate is good stuff too. I really like the powdered pb since it adds minimal calories, same with the cocoa powder. I just get the Hershey's special dark powder which any supermarket should have in the baking section.

u/kennufs · 1 pointr/soylent

I've been using this lemon-mint flavored oil for a while. Depending on how strong your other flavors are in your recipe you may or may not notice it, in one of my recipes it came through by adding a fresh and minty flavor, I liked the change. Now I don't notice it at all, so either I've become used to it, or my current recipe doesn't allow the flavor to come through.

u/anotherdike · 1 pointr/soylent

I'm late to the party... I use the BlenderBottle ProStak. It's just the right size for mixing up one meal, and doesn't require additional measuring equipment for the milk. Bonus, the little cup on the bottom is just large enough to fit a single scoop of Schmilk if you want to stow a meal for later.

u/ShippingIsMagic · 1 pointr/soylent

Just a couple other options:

  • I add crushed ice into the water that I put into the pitcher when making Soylent. It makes it nice and cold even when just made, which is nice when I forget to make it the night before.

  • I add drops of liquid Sucralose to add sweetness without calories. Very effective sweetening agent IMHO. I'd imagine they're all the same, but I use EZ Sweetz - http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002MO765O/
u/kuppajava · 1 pointr/soylent

The easiest way is to buy one of these to scoop your powder out of.

This way, you can easily pour two bags into it without spilling it all over.

Now, set your scale to zero (tare out) the weight of your blender bottle with spring and a little bit of water in it. Now when you scoop powder into the blender bottle, it will just tell you the weight of the powder.

Chocolate PB2. It tastes awesome, slightly boosts protein, and still works with a shaker cup.

u/Scoxxicoccus · 1 pointr/soylent

I add approximately 50 grams of pea protein and 15 grams of matcha to each 2000 calorie batch. This puts me at 120 grams of protein and adds about 170 calories. The bitter matcha takes the edge off the stock sweetness and adds a small caffeine hit as a bonus.

My original pitcher started leaking because of hot water usage so I purchased this [container](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001A5SHUY?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00
) which is nearly perfect for this process. I stopped using hot water because other members of this forum made me fear the pipes in my house ;).

Mixing procedure:

  • Put Soylent, matcha and pea protein into the container.

  • Thoroughly tamp down the dry ingredients by bouncing the container on the countertop and tapping the sides. This step is critical in preventing clumps.

  • Fill 2/3 with tap water and drop in a metal shaker ball. Don't put the ball into the dry ingredients alone or a mega clump will form inside the ball and resist every effort to dissolve it.

  • Quickly turn the container upside down and shake very, very, very vigorously. The first 20 seconds of shaking are critical.

  • Top off with more water, more shaking and refrigerate over night. The contents will have separated by morning but a light shake will mix everything perfectly.

We used to use these for one-week batches at Custom Body Fuel. They're great.

u/apathetic_lemur · 2 pointsr/soylent

get a kitchen scale all the way. This one has 14k reviews and 4.5 stars. I own it and it works great.

There are many rice options that are low sodium. I think Naked Pea is a low sodium pea option, but most pea proteins have quite a bit. If you are exercising (sweating) then the higher sodium intake shouldn't be a problem.

I personally use this rice protein. The arsenic isn't as much of a concern since I contacted the company and they don't source their rice from the southern US, which is the only location with very high levels of arsenic in the soil. I also bought a bottle of lysine to add to the protein in order to balance out the amino acid profile a bit more, but you could also just mix the rice protein with a pea protein and get a similar result. True Nutrition sells blends that are popular, but I haven't personally tried them.

Prepping 1.5 isn't exactly hard. Pour powder in, add water, shake.

Cleanup is easy, too. Just make sure to get yourself one of these.

u/_ilovetofu_ · 2 pointsr/soylent

I dont think the consistency would be great. I cook with it, and it expands and gets like bread in water.

No joke: I was spending 5 minutes per bottle trying my damnedest to get them open and so I bought this Vice Grip: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004YO5M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

So much better.

u/greyterran · 2 pointsr/soylent

If you get the base powder and mix it with protein powder from Amazon, the price per week drops significantly.

https://store.ketochow.xyz/keto-chow-2-0-base-powder-1-week/

https://www.amazon.ca/Optimum-Nutrition-Standard-Double-Chocolate/dp/B000QSNYGI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1493113300&sr=8-1&keywords=protein

Price per day is much lower, can order 8 weeks of base powder for 2/3 of the shipping cost versus the normal powder. Doing it this way also lets you control your protein macro, and gives you more flavour options. There's a huge list on that Amazon page.

Now Foods has a vitamin D+K you might want to look at:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0019QT9LA
might be able to eliminate 1 extra pill.

It's difficult to tell if you're deliberately low on calories and what your macro %'s are. Did you create your own nutrient profile and macro ratio using the diy calculator?
http://diy.soylent.me/nutrient-profiles/calculator

Yeah, that's a ton of fiber. RDA is only 14g fiber per 1000 calories.

u/ketolent · 2 pointsr/soylent

Try Ketolent, if you don't like the taste I will refund your order. No chia seeds, texture is smooth, vanilla or chocolate. Pro-tip: For breakfast use coffee instead of water - so good.

You can add this for phosphorus but keep in mind it has sodium as well.

u/Vargasa871 · 8 pointsr/soylent

Here you go OP a food scale for $11 now it's as scalable as you want.

u/Bellgard · 1 pointr/soylent

Yeah I agree, I'm a little unsure about what actually happened. But I've also learned long ago that the doctor is almost always right. He was a very experienced ER doctor, and he told me he is sure that I passed a kidney stone. That's what the official diagnosis was, printed on my release form.

Regarding calcium, the doctor said that contrary to popular belief, extra calcium intake actually does not increase the risk of kidney stones, even though they're most commonly formed from calcium deposits (and actually has been linked with reduced risk for kidney stones). That said, my current DIY uses: 10g / day of the "NOW Foods Calcium/magnesium 1000/500 mg," for a net total of 1.4g of calcium (recommended min 1g, no max). I listed the rest of the micros in a reply to /u/chrisbair above.

As for protein, I'm using this vanilla rice protein, which is the same stuff that anyone eating schmoylent or a variant has been using, without (to my knowledge) any negative side-effects.

My bad, I made a mistake. I meant 100 grams of SuperBodyKetoFuel.

I buy Coconut cream on Amazon, it is like thicker Coconut milk.

Personally, I do not taste the olive oil taste once mixed.

Dang, bummer! Is dairy an option? There are a lot of varieties of protein powders made from dairy. In addition to dairy, here are some other options to try:
