What about liquid tape (or is it pretty much the same thing as this)?

I was planning on mostly coating my flight controller board with it.

The wiring isn't exposed so it's probably fine. I'd cover it with liquid electrical tape rather than regular electrical tape as it more robust and water resistant. Regular electrical tape will peel off after a while because of all the vibration and dust.

I was thinking some liquid electrical tape might work better. Since it is painted on, it will be less likely to peel off later.

I found a bottle of Liquid Tape on clearance for under $2.

It works very well. I put it on at the first sign of fraying. It takes a couple of coats to seal everything up good. Dries quick and looks much better than electrical tape, plus it doesn’t get sticky around the edges like regular tape does.

Noticed you linked a 4 pin connector, is that any different from the 3 pin one I listed? For the SK6812 I only saw 3 wires?

How about some Liquid Electrical Tape? Also battery wrap.

Could try something like these. I got a few off of aliexpress for some headphones, just solder and crew the back up over it. here I also recommend liquid tape for filling around the wires before you screw on your connector. It forms a perfect solid shielded connection at that point. this stuff

I bought a high priced dishwasher on clearance for 50% off. A year later and the controls go bad. I called and they were going to send out the in home warranty guy to look at it. In the meantime, I look on line and see it's a regular issue with the ribbon cable being poorly protected. I ended up ordering this liquid electrical tape after reading various DIY repairs. Repair guy's well aware of the issue and the design flaw and says he's never heard of the DIY fix which was to coat the exposed ribbon connector in liquid electrical tape. The issue is that the conductors of the ribbon cable are exposed and corrode quickly because the control panel is not sealed from the tub. Liquid electrical tape fixes that. Simple <$10 fix on my part. I just had the repair guy leave the control panel with me since it takes a while for the tape to dry.

This may be a stupid question, but why couldn't you slit the rubber grommet entering the battery compartment so you don't have to remove the securing nut? I understand the grommet is there for waterproofing, but a razor cut shouldn't compromise integrity that much if at all. If you're really paranoid you could use a bit of liquid electrical tape to make everything watertight afterwards.

We dealt with damages like this multiple times when changing the cable out isn't an option.

The best thing you can do is liquid electrical tape.
If you want to go overboard you can tape over the liquid tape once it hardens but you shouldn't have to.

I believe the repair plugs I have have screw-in plates for the internal connections. But if I'm leaving in the other prongs for stability, I'd liberally coat the connections with liquid electrical tape.

For where the wire exits the plug, I was thinking of first wrapping it securely with conventional electrical tape, then covering the connection with shrink tubing for neatness and durability.

At the other end, the alligator clips I have are crimp-on (I have a crimp tool, so tight connections shouldn't be an issue). I can also bypass this by soldering the wire to the outside of the crimp tube and repeat the first-wrap and then shrink tube process.

Fully agree with the "take your time" aspect --- case in point, I'm posting here about it rather than puttering down in the basement trying it out first.
