You need:

  • A RaspberryPi - newer versions have a better CPU (but you can get a Zero for $5). If you want to play N64, go with a newer Raspberry Model B.
  • A +5.1V micro USB power supply (for RetroPie, a 2.5A one works well)
  • A USB Keyboard
  • An HDMI cable
  • A gaming controller of your choosing (USB cord if you can/otherwise bluetooth)
  • An SD card - these can come pre-loaded if you shop around

    Optional:

  • A nice case (according to OP's friend, Legos).
  • SD Card Reader/Writer (if you didn't buy an SD card preloaded; some laptops have them)
  • A bluetooth dongle (for PS3/PS4/XBox/XBoxOne/etc.)
  • A wifi dongle (if you don't want a hard wired connection)

    Download RetroPie

    Follow video here:

    https://retropie.org.uk/documentation/installing-retropie/

Might I add, you can setup SSH on the retropie, so you can connect to the machine and upload ROMs without having to use a USB keyboard. Google for old ROMs, I've used LoveROMs in the past.

Total build time ~1-2 hours. Total cost $30 - $65.

I have a much simpler solution for you.

I'd get a card reader.

Plus: Faster tranfser.
Minus: You can forget to put the card back in the Mavic.

Less than $5 for this one. Works fine for me:

No problem! Just in case you don't know, you will need to use your computer to transfer data from your old sd card to your new sd card. If you don't have an sd card slot on your computer, you will need to buy an external one to do the transfer. They are pretty cheap. This is the one I got but there are a lot of others, just make sure it accepts regularly sized sd cards and not just micro sd card.

Parts List - There is a decent list in brewpi docs as well but I will list what I bought below as well. BrewPi Doc's Build Planning

What I purchased:

Arduni Uno - RevC

RaspPi Model B

4GB SD Card
and SD Card Reader

2 Solid State Relays

LCD Module

BrewPi Arduino Shield You can buy this assembled for 10 more Euros. I chose to solder it myself.

2 DS18B20 Single Line Temp Sensors

Some kind of case to hold it all. BrewPi makes their own but I chose to hack up a cash box for all the electronics.

This does not include the things needed for the chamber (cooling and heating elements), the rectangular wall socket to hook up to the relays, wiring, etc. Amazon also may not be the lowest price for everything either so shop around.

If you're running an OS not available on NOOBS how did you flash it on the card in the first place. The OS listed on NOOBS are listed here:

http://www.raspberrypi.org/introducing-noobs/

but to flash an OS on an SD card you need an OS to do it on. I guess that theoretically you could have an OS load fully in memory while it's flashing a card but you'd still need to store the image of the new OS somewhere.
I think it's probably a lot less headaches if it's even possible to do to just order this:

EDIT: As noted below it is possible in some case but it's very important to realize exactly what you're getting left with. This is a BARE BONE Raspbian setup. Also since we don't know what OS you're running it might not be an option for you.

I didn't find anything for microSD to USB

The closest thing I found would be to get

u/Threnulak · 2 pointsr/galaxynote4

If that doesn't do it for you, this is the USB adapter I have for my micro SD card. It's dirt cheap and works damn well; card acts just like any other thumb drive.

I can easily answer your first question. If you install an eMMC module you can use the microSD slot as extra storage. Boot defaults to the eMMC. iirc, it's not a spring loaded microSD slot so not the easiest to work with. If you're planning on moving it around a lot just grab a cheap usb microSD reader.

I don't use mine for anything multimedia related, at least so far, so I can't really answer any of your other questions though. I run Armbian on mine.

I literally just built one today. As a total newb, it's super simple, just follow the official retropie installation instructions.

https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/First-Installation

One thing you will need is the ability to write to the SD card. If your computer already has that, then you're good -- otherwise pickup a cheap Amazon usb-to-microsd card writer. This is the one I got, works perfectly.

The one surprising thing -- after you install retropie and have it running, perform an update (there's a menu option for it). The update from 4.1 to 4.15 takes forever... maybe my microsd card sucks, but you'll need to let it sit for 30-45mins+. No interaction required during this time, so go get a sandwich or something.

Oh, the way I've been doing it is putting a micro sd card in the switch, taking screenshots, then putting the micro sd card into a little reader that I plug into my computer. Like one of these little things: https://www.amazon.com/IOGEAR-MicroSD-Reader-Writer-GFR204SD/dp/B0046TJG1U

u/Pavon123 · 1 pointr/gpdwin

From the looks of it, it's ineed the SD card. Try the flashdrive.

A card reader is either a built-in port that can read SD cards, or an external USB device, like this one (first search result, not a recommendation in any way):

u/johnyapplsede · 1 pointr/3DS

You can buy a USB adapter and put the SD in it. Boom, 32gb flash drive. An SD card is only useless if you're not creative enough to find a use for it.

$300 CAD is a very low budget, but I tried and this is the cheapest I could get without being too bad. You could shell out a bit more for something better, but this should do you good.

By the way, these prices don't include MIR.

Transfer all of your photos from the camera's internal memory to the microSD card, then use a USB adapter to transfer them to your computer.

The alternative would be to use a cloud service to upload them all, then download on to the computer.

I know, but I don't really use it for much. Besides, the battery life is horrendous because of the gtx555m in it. It has a new-ish battery in it but still only gets about 3,5h unplugged while idling and browsing the internet.

Right now, it is cheaper than this so it will do what it does at the moment.
