Manufacted 06/2011Insp/Test Date 06/2014Shelf life 7 years12 meals per caseFlameless heaters included
I don't think it is a good price, shipping appears to be $10 flat. less than two years ago I was paying $2.50 shipped per meal, and that included the heater, seasonings, wipe, etc. Note however they were NOT vetted to have future inspection dates like these. Mine just had manufacture dates, and they were 2+ years old by the time I got them. I eventually ate them all though, and they were fine.
if you buy two cases here, it works out to about $5.83 per meal. too rich for my blood. they are very convenient, but for the price they are asking, you can buy the same thing on amazon for the same price ($60 + $15 shipping vs $65 + $10 shipping): https://www.amazon.com/MRE-MEALS-MILITARY-FACTORY-SEALED/dp/B00JVTPVYQ
I can wait until I have a need to make my purchase.
EDIT - $62 shipped if you have prime: https://www.amazon.com/Meals-Ready-Genuine-Military-Surplus/dp/B005I5ML36/
I haven't clicked on the link either, but here's my thoughts:
Get a couple cases of MREs, a couple flats of bottled water. Use them on roadtrips, day hikes, etc, get a replacement case/flat when the first runs out. Maybe look into a water purifier and camping stove that can use multiple types of fuel such as MSR International.
A 5 gallon can of gasoline, or maybe a couple of them if you have need, be sure to add a stabilizer for long term storage. Use it for your lawn mower/small jobs so that it eventually gets used up and replaced.
Keep a can with a wad of 20s stashed somewhere out of the way, maybe dip into it time to time when you'd rather save a trip to an ATM and replenish it when you've had a good week.
Stock your medicine cabinet with basic first aid stuff: various sizes of band-aids, ace bandage/splint, space blanket, aspirin, ibuprofen, claritin, small scissors, water purification tablets. If you have medical needs, not sure if you'll be able to double up on your prescription. But also get a 1st aid kit, double up on your 1st aid supplies, and keep a portable version either in your car/truck glove box, or somewhere where you spend most of your time when not at home (office/work).
Military MREs could suffice for your needs. Just be careful, they pack some serious calories per pack.
For those long nights during busy season.
To help smooth things out after busy season is over.
So like, just buy a lifetime supply of these?

those were made in 2011....
"REI has some fancy ones," I hate to break it to you, but other than the extra $1 or so they charge for being in an REI those aren't that fancy. If you want tolerable MREs that are easy to use just suck it up and buy a few of those and some cliff bars. Otherwise Wal-Mart has similar ones for maybe $1-$2 less each that taste the same.
I mean you're buying food that has been fully prepared and cooked then freeze-dried so you won't find any TV-dinner type stuff.
If you want military grade MREs with 1300calories per meal go for these Amazon Military Surplus MREs. Still ~$7 per meal. I backpack often and usually just buy the Wal-Mart/Gander Mountain one for $5.
In the US. I can buy a case of them on Amazon for $76.75 & FREE Shipping (that's about $6.40 each).
Edit: They appear to have updated the case price to $81.70 (that's about $6.80 each)

I am so sorry. MREs are your best answer for balance and price. My parish gives out emergency food packages for folks who are homeless or suddenly stranded, with lost of chicken salad instant meals and individually packaged fruit cups, but that is a killingly expensive option (and boring) option over the long haul. Make sure your car gets equipped with a dish pan and soap/rags/towels for cleaning any dishes you do use, because food poisoning is bad. Also 2 small coolers, one for hot and one for cold will let you take advantage of the ability to use the office kitchen microwave and fridge while you are otherwise "camping".
cheaper by the box
Depends on your standards, really.
