Another solution might be to use a TV/Display that supports picture in picture, but you would need to find one that had the kind of split effect you wanted.
The Microsoft one is probably being controlled by Spyder or similar video processing unit.
You could go down this route...Which is rather expensive, or if you want to do it cheaper, a multiviewer is the next option.
