Even if during "normal use" you aren't hitting high temps, I would not use the cpu package temp as a reference for that.

Uninstall hwmonitor and install HWInfo 64, it has a lot more to show you and you will notice that each core has it's own temp. Core temp is what you should use to determine if its getting too hot. Even if you see just a couple cores hitting high 90's/100 that's cutting it close. Not worth it IMO.

This is the one I have on my 7800x, which is not quite as hot as yours will be but close, and even after a delid with liquid metal I hit high 70s @ 4.6 and sometimes peaking into 90s @ 4.8.

In between loading from the last map to the next, the temps can jump up to 72c. That's the highest I've seen them but they only stay like that for a bit of time.

Are those temperatures too hot? I had used Arctic Silver 5 for the thermal.

I've been pondering all week and researching a bit but I feel like I'm overthinking. I'll start with specs (in order of importance to this) and tell you what's happening.

• i7-8086K, BK-009 150w tower cooler (swapping for this liquid cooler tomorrow.)
  
• Thermaltake View 31 Case.
  
• Asus Prime Z370-A
  
• Gigabyte Windforce OC GTX1070
  
• 16GB Gskill TridentZ 3200MHz, 32GB Optane
  
• Thermaltake TR-2 600w (swapping out for this one, it's 750w tomorrow.)
  
• I won't bore you with storage unless you really want me to.
  
  I got a better job recently and upgraded some parts on an aging rig, now I'm just being an effing dweeb and seeing how low I can get my temps because for some reason that's my idea of fun. So I'm putting this liquid cooler in tomorrow and I've decided to go with the top for mounting, I also want to keep my air pressure positive.
  
  Question is, I have 3 case fans at the moment (2 front intake, 1 rear outtake) and will have 3 more pointing out from the cooler in addition the rear exhaust. All that said: should I point the rear exhaust in? I kind of don't want to because those riing fans don't look as nice backwards, but I'm open to it. I was actually thinking of going the route of fans pointing in from the bottom (the filter on the bottom is excellent) especially to point up at my GPU, which I've mounted vertically. My thinking was to push cool air up and in, then let the heat rise out. My two spinner drives are mounted vertically so fans in the bottom should keep those nice and chilly as well.
  
  TL;DR should I have more fans pointing in than out of the case, or is it that it doesn't matter, and I'm overthinking it?

I'm new to water cooling (I have a CoolerMaster Hyper 212x (sister to the EVO) on my i5 now) and with my new build I was considering Thermaltake's AIO cooler....mostly because it matches the rest of my thermaltake gear, including side mounted triple fan radiator spot (using the Thermaltake View71 tower).
