This is the one that I use. It works well. I use it to connect a WD portable hard drive. The phone supplies power to the drive, no external power required.

You're out of luck with the standard Xbox One controller, but we've had some success reports for the DualShock 4 controller when connected via USB using a Type-C to Type-A OTG adapter (like this or this) connected to the 2016/17 Gear VR. You may or may not need this app, and your mileage may vary.

Please report back :)

(I don't have a PS4 controller so I can't try it myself)

I think you're mixing up your connectors. The Chromecast uses Micro USB for power, not USB-C. (USB-C is on the left, Micro USB is on the right) And the USB port that most TVs have is USB-A. If your projector has USB-C (not Micro USB), you should technically be able to buy a USB-C OTG cable (like this) to convert the USB-C to USB-A. If it's actually Micro USB, it's likely not meant for power output, so it won't work.

Also, HDMI technically has power output, but it's something like 5% of the actual power needed to power the Chromecast.

You often will need an "OTG Host Data cable" to make it work. I tried going direct to my Nexus 6 and later my Pixel, and it only worked with such a dongle. For example, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZWN64RS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_0Rv6yb7PSAXPR

In the case of this board you'd need a C to C version or a second dongle to convert the A side to a C.

What about using a USBC to USB A (OTG) and then plugging an A to Micro B cable into the OTG-A port?

HERE

I just don't UNDERSTAND if this is any different from a normal USBC Male to USB A female that you'd get for your say macbook.

Frustrating discussion showing that OTG cables may not be needed at all

u/AlwaysAscending · 1 pointr/Android

I have not seen one either, but I would be interested to see if a micro USB to USB C connected to an OTG cable would work.

E: quick search on Amazon. They do exist https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00ZWN64RS

u/lejazzvp · 1 pointr/nexus5x

You could try a mic that plugs into the audio jack (like THIS for example) but I think that if you get an USB OTG type C to type A cable (like THIS) you could plug in any USB mic as long as it doesn't draw too much power.

u/Reygle · 1 pointr/techsupport

Sure are, as well Type C adaptors if you already have a micro USB OTG cable.

u/AccountForFeelings · 1 pointr/teenagers

Not to my knowledge, but you can just use something like this or this and attach one of these or these and use it like that.

this has been my favorite case so far:

the button pressing action has been really nice--minimal resistance. the case itself is very customizable as you can use the template with any background or picture.

best FM transmitter i've ever found, and highly reviewed via wirecutter.
i don't actually own this dash mount but man, do i want it. game changer. http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00RDQVPTY/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3OJFHJG4QML3E&coliid=I10BBT1M2MULXT&psc=1
this http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00M6QODH2?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 and this http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00S8GU2OC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01 make a pretty sweet car charging duo. the cable isn't flimsy, it's affordable, and spec compliant.
if one would be blessed not to need an fm transmitter on their automobile, i really like this http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00PTZEON0/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3OJFHJG4QML3E&coliid=INI8K30WP9S4L&psc=1

finally, as you start playing around with ROMS (to improve device performance as stock is pretty buggy and not particularly bueno with respect to battery life) you'll inevitably start making backups in twrp. you'll need to. those take up a lot of space. to ameliorate that, i suggest these: http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00ZWN64RS/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3OJFHJG4QML3E&coliid=I1YYV3CE6VXPNB&psc=1, http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YFI1EBC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00

oh! there's also a pleson tempered glass screen protector on amazon for the 5x. it came in last week but i still haven't had a chance to install it. cheap and very highly reviewed.

I have a USB C OTG cable and I'll double check but I had no trouble using a mouse with it. If I remember correctly, I used a Nexus Media Importer a long time ago to read media from flash via OTG. I'll give it a try as well and report back.

Edit: Works fine, but the USB A port is a bit tight. You can see the mouse pointer in the first screenshot, USB flash detected and read in the second and third. I just used the flash drive to backup my PS3 for a HD upgrade and you can see the files there. Order of plugging things in didn't matter.

You ever considered using a usb c otg cable like this by any chance? Think it would benefit you more in the long run as long your using a music app that recognizes DACs properly like USB audio player pro.

u/logion42 · 1 pointr/bicycletouring

Don't you have a pre-made route somewhere that we can check out? :)

Should you want to upload your riding history while touring, you can get a USB OTG cable if you have a USB on the go capable smart phone (most Androids are nowadays, dunno about iPhone).
For example: micro USB OTG cable: https://www.amazon.com/Micro-USB-OTG-Adapter-Cable/dp/B00D8YZ2SA
or USB type C OTG cable: https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Macbook-Chromebook-OnePlus-Devices/dp/B00ZWN64RS
I use it with my Edge 705 while touring and my One Plus 3 phone and it works great for downloading the GPX history files to my phone.

> There are also a lot of usb hub pcbs that are very flat that could work.

I do not think you realize that a regular PCB without any components are to thick to shim the USB port. You would need a print card that is made to shim other parts. Thankfully for you there is a market for making such PCBs. Not so good for you is that the only customers that buy them have either huge amounts of money (crooks) or buy them 10 thousand at the time (sim card shims). The shim thickness PCB would of course only be needed for the shim part, but you have more problems. Soldering it is a huge problem, if you solder by hand you get bulk because its so small. And these are not ment for reflow.

The hub you linked is also a USB 2.0 hub. Here is tech specs of a refrence USB 3.0 hub which is very much more complicated. http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/tidu428/tidu428.pdf

Why don't you just use this for the second USB port? https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Macbook-Chromebook-OnePlus-Devices/dp/B00ZWN64RS
