That's the Ultimate Bed!

For only $3k! For that price, you should all buy two!

u/Mudgeon · 12 pointsr/polyamory

So I’m my anchor partner and I are both strongman competitors, she’s 6’ 1”, between 230-240 depending on where we are in a season and I’m 5’ 10” generally right around 260-280.

So just the two of us are right 550 usually.

We bought a Zinus Dawn 14 inch frame off amazon for about $159 it’s rated to 1200lbs, so perfect for us and our other partners. It’s a slight bigger than king size with nice rubber feet too keep it from sliding, though I still put a rug under it.

We affectionately call it orgy sized.

We went with a Purple mattress a few months ago. Tried to order one of their foundations to go with it but a month after ordering and receiving the mattress and at least another month wait for their foundation, we gave up and ordered this one from Amazon.

It pretty much just folds out of the box and you screw some nuts on to lock the two pieces together, couldn't be easier and has worked great, no squeaking or anything.

I've enjoyed reading through everyone's responses and have added a ton of things to my cart/wishlist...

Amazon is my go-to for pretty much everything --- phone cases, screen protectors, batteries, cat food, random household things. Off the top of my head, my favorites:

  • Lightning/micro-USB charging cable. I love that it can flip between the two charging ports; I can use one cable for my iPhone and Kindle, finally! We've replaced all of our electronic cables with these.
  • My Kindle Voyage. Love, love, love it! It's always with me.
  • Zinus SmartBase mattress frame. Sturdy, quiet, and super tall for underbed storage. Enough said!
  • Packing cubes. These are soft-sided packing cubes, which is great for me since I can cram more things into them. I get so much more suitcase space back, and it helps keep things organized once I'm at a hotel.
  • Stainless steel sink caddy. Sponges left in the sink drive me crazy! I like this one because it also has stands for scrubber brushes and the coordinating soap dispenser (which I also bought) fits nicely in the compartment.
  • Programmable cat feeder. We've tried so, so many automatic feeders for our cats. The feeders either crap out or the cats figure out how to get it to dispense extra food. This one though --- it's been going strong for 2.5 years and the little jerkbags can't get their paws up the food chute; not that it matters, because portions are on a conveyor belt inside the feeder. You can set multiple feeding times, adjust portions for each meal, and it's super easy to refill thanks to the lid on top. We have a power adapter for it... the manufacturer didn't have the factory one listed at the time (it's separate) so we got a generic multi-purpose one that works.

I grew up sleeping on futons and mattresses on the floor, so I agree they're comfortable. But having to air them out, leave them in the sun, store nothing underneath, etc. turns out to not really be that minimalist (especially with your time). Get this minimalist bedframe and this minimalist foam mattress in whatever size you need. Feels like a futon without all the disadvantages.

The bedframe is particularly nice because it's all metal, so doesn't wear out like other platform beds that use wooden slats like IKEA's. I had to wrap the corners with duct tape because I keep banging my shins into them.

I am a big fan of my Zinus storage bed frame. Very solid, no squeaks after almost 2 years, and the extra height/no box spring is great. I bought mine on the recommendation of a friend, she and her husband have had theirs for a year or two longer than I have and have not had issues either.

It looks like they make a platform model and low profile too.

u/iwantedtolive · 3 pointsr/houseplants

I found it brand new on Facebook Marketplace, but it's this bed

u/IrunI5 · 3 pointsr/BuyItForLife

Get this: https://www.amazon.com/Zinus-Platform-Mattress-Foundation-Assembly/dp/B01M1D27YO

It's a metal bed frame, wooden slats, very easy to assemble and remove. Zero squeeks, heavy duty.

It's sized such that those large tote bins fit easily under the bed.

u/676jeff · 3 pointsr/HiatalHernia

You have to get an adjustable bed. It’s freakin amazing for GERD sufferers. I have an HH so I always sleep elevated up. I got this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B074QWYM22?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

It’s super easy to set up, and pretty inexpensive. I bought the mattress and frame for about $750. Get two twin XLs and put side by side. A must for everyone with GERD.

u/SynthFrog · 3 pointsr/Mattress

I'm assuming you don't care about the mattress lasting for years, you just need something for your final year of school, correct? At that price range you definitely shouldn't expect the mattress to last more than a year (it might but just don't expect it to). There are some cheap mattresses on Amazon such as LUCID and Zinus. They have a lot of good reviews but be wary since there are tons of fake (paid for) reviews on Amazon. Pretty much what you want to aim for is just something that's better than sleeping on the floor. College dorm mattresses are generally pretty horrible, so it is what it is. People still make it through college alright even with those awful mattresses. For a memory foam mattress, you want a platform bed frame. Here's a lower cost one from Zinus.

u/salent0 · 3 pointsr/RoomPorn

These things are the way to go! My house is tiny with a super narrow staircase so I couldn't even move in a full size box spring. Ended up messing around with pallets, etc., but the wood would splinter and pierce my mattress, or slide around and I'd wake up with my feet in the air and my head near the floor. Really the pallets got incredibly annoying.

Ended up buying something like the person above posted, except you can find ones where the "box spring" is included. That's not the exact one I own, but if you shop around, I used the keywords "collapsible bed frame box spring".

Also really convenient for moving since it comes in a giant box and just folds right up. Only took me 15 minutes to drunkenly set up.

u/DeludedOldMan · 2 pointsr/steroids

No box spring. I got a platform to put it on

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M7M9NXX/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

There are some less expensive ones if cost is an issue

u/travinavan · 2 pointsr/vandwellers

If I were doing a 5 day build, I'd skip insulation. I was in a van this summer that I had insulated with polyiso, and when it was cold outside, it was cold inside the van, and when it was hot outside, it was super hot inside the van. I never got my electrical hooked up either, so I'd skip that too. Bought a 50,000 mAh battery bank. Never really used it. I did use a long 12v extension with a splitter to charge my phone, run a fan, etc.

I'd probably put down subfloor, that's cheapish and a one day project.

For the bed, I bought this frame for $60 and this memory foam mattress, but you could probably get a cheaper twin mattress. The nice thing about the bed frame is that you can store plenty of stuff underneath it in storage totes.

u/NhY6nn57aGRv1 · 2 pointsr/sex

I got this bed frame for around $120 and love it. The thing is SILENT.

  • store extra k-cups in coffee cups
  • get rid of things you don't need (Does it bring you joy? No? Throw it out. KonMari style.)
  • I got this bed frame that I can store all of my extra linens, seasonal clothes, etc in large plastic bins under... I love this thing, plus you don't need a box spring with it, and it's easy to fold up/move and it doesn't creek!
  • Again, throw things out
  • Like others have said, use your vertical space. Shoe holders on the back of doors, little removable hooks attatched to your dresser for jewelry.
  • I think having a full size vacuum would be a waste in a small space. I love my broom/dustpan and dustbuster the most.
u/tomsellecksmustache · 2 pointsr/Mattress

Your budget is not bad, but, I would recommend you go down a size to full size in order to get something better.

To start out, you will need a foundation to place the mattress on.

This full size one is 85 dollars shipped: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ENRBD8O

On a 300 dollar budget, that's 215 left over for a good mattress that will last you 5-8 years.

For the mattress itself, at your price point, coils are always a better deal than foam. There might be places that will sell you memory foam or regular foam mattresses, but those will start wearing out much quicker than a coil mattress.

So for about 200 bucks, you can easily get a decent full size mattress.

Specs to look out for are as follows:

8" Thick Coils - Anything less than around 8" means that you're more likely to bottom out and wear out faster. Make sure to get Medium Firmness, Soft coils won't last long at this price point, Firm coils are actually about 100 bucks more. You can actually feel them through the side. Image: http://i.imgur.com/AKuEW1u.jpg

About 1/2" to 1" High Density Foam - Usually at about 2.0Lbs to 2.5" Lbs density rating. This is usually found on the mattress spec sheet, a lot of internet retailers lie about this, btw.

Done.

If you want to add additional padding, get a duvet cover.

I recently bought a queen mattress 300$ in a box on amazon. When you can save for it, a very cheap permanent option.

Edit: found a cheaper option and throw it on the floor eventually you will upgrade to a box spring honestly most people give these away for free on FB marketplace) and eventually a 40-80$ metal frame off facebook marketplace

When you have cash amazon for mattresses is AFFORDABLE. Plus you don't need a truck.

I bought my memory foam mattress and bedframe for ~$400 total. I like it just as much, if not more than the $3k at half-price brand name memory foam mattress that I got with my ex from a store.

We ended up pulling the trigger on the Leesa sometime last night.

Glad a slatted base is OK, we just went the Amazon route of:

Buy a memory foam mattress on amazon and the bed frame too. Assembling furniture is a good idea too. You can take it up in pieces. The mattress before its unpacked is very manageable. Make lots of trips, the first 3 floors are easy, it's 4 and five that will break you.

I have something similar to this which is good enough for me -
https://www.amazon.com/Zinus-Memory-Green-Mattress-Queen/dp/B00Q7EPSHI/ref=sr_1_1?s=furniture&ie=UTF8&qid=1497875642&sr=1-1&keywords=zinus&th=1
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00M16A1M8/ref=psdc_3248801011_t2_B01AB689F0

If you want a firmer mattress you can go with this one -
https://www.amazon.com/Zinus-Gel-Infused-Green-Memory-Mattress/dp/B01NH0QVM4/ref=sr_1_5?s=furniture&ie=UTF8&qid=1497875642&sr=1-5&keywords=zinus&th=1

There of course are also other base options you choose if you need a headboard or what not. I also would recommend a full cover as it has worked great a keeping my mattress spotless, something like this - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B1ZRLLY?ref=emc_b_5_i

u/Fuxkily · 2 pointsr/Wishlist

This is the frame I went with.

u/siamonsez · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

You want a mattress to be able to breathe, so plywood wouldn't be too good, and more slats wouldn't add all that much more support. A support down the middle would be easiest, but legs like that can get skewed over time and lead to badness.

You could use a 2x4, short side up, and a leg that's stabilized so it won't move out from under the 2x4. You can actually buy these, but you could make a much beefier one out of 2x2. I can go into detail on that if that's the way you want to go.

Another way to go would be to add 1x2 to each slat, oriented vertically so it makes a t shape, and add blocks between the 1x2s to tie them all together for weight distribution.

I recently bought a new bed, and I looked through this site to determine what would be best. I ended up going with a latex mattress. I'm pretty satisfied with it. The frame depends on what type of mattress you're getting. You'll probably want a frame and box spring for an innerspring mattress, but everything else just needs a foundation. Also, be sure to get a waterproof mattress cover to protect your mattress.

What I went with, for reference:

https://amzn.com/B002AQNXR4

https://amzn.com/B0051AQXZK

https://amzn.com/B00M169YVC

P.S., buy at least a queen if you're going to have another person in your bed. A double will be pretty cramped.

Amazon.

I've bought this sucker twice, the second time after a fire ruined the first.

If you've got Prime it's free two day shipping. Comes all compressed and rolled up in a ~18x18xlength of mattress box and you just let it out and it decompresses into a really nice mattress.

Just make sure you have a bed frame with wood slats or a metal one like this.

Hello,

We receive this question a lot and there are many ways to adjust your Ikea bed frame to work with Spindle's heavy latex. below is the information and here is the link to the article on Spindle's website, Supporting a Spindle with an IKEA bed frame.

Your on the right track with wanting to by new slats as well. Here is our recommendation on the specs for the slats, as well as the link. Proper support for a Spindle Mattress

  • Slats of solid wood, no less than 3/4” thick 1x3 lumber works great -- Oak, Fir, Birch, Tulip, Poplar, etc...doesn't matter -- just NOT ply- or fabricated wood
  • Slats spaced no more than 3” apart. Skimping can damage your Spindle
  • Center support[s] under slats with legs to the floor
  • Plywood is not recommended. It may flex; also can lead to mold/mildew

Most IKEA frames will not offer enough support for a Spindle. Fortunately, the critical mass of IKEA customers has provided a robust hacker community and their DIY solutions can be found by exploring Google Images, YouTube or Pinterest.

This YouTube video highlights one of the shortfalls and demonstrates one way to fix it.

There are many other postings online with pointers on how to add support to your IKEA bed.

DIY Bed Frame for $10 shows a basic solution.Reinforcing an Ikea Bed gets a bit more sophisticatedIkea makes Sultan, a leg for their center beam. You may be able to modify it to work with your bed.Bedclaw makes an adjustable height leg specifically for this type of application

To reinforce your IKEA frame, the minimum modifications we’d recommend are:

  • Use solid slats [just get 1×3 from lumber yard or Home Depot, et al], or buy a slat kit like this one.
  • Add support legs to underside of center beam [we recommend using at least 2]
  • Add support beams with legs: Universal Bed Slats Center Support System Adjustable Tubular Steel with 4 Legs

Additional support may be needed, depending on the way the bed is engineered. Thanks for coming to the Reddit community with your inquiry. We hope this helps and please contact Spindle if you need additional information.
u/kevingrolton · 1 pointr/DIY

You've gotten some good tips about the plywood, but you could also consider getting a metal foundation to fit inside the frame you buy, and skip the wooden slats. I did this with my bed; the metal foundation fits perfectly inside the wooden bed frame, and you don't even see the legs on the sides. Bonus: no creaking!

No problem! I went with this one. It has nice space under it for storage. The only issue I would say is the velcro that holds the slats down sometimes makes noise getting into the bed but no sound when rolling around. Very small issue for a great frame.

Sure thing! If you do end up going with Christeli, awesome. If not, all good. I think the main thing is to find a sleeping arrangement that lends you both to be able to sleep soundly. So although Christeli mattresses have been the best mattresses we have ever had, the price point is not practical for some people. I am certain that even if we bought different mattresses that we felt were comfortable (but happened to be less expensive), we would still be getting great sleep. The frames meet when we want & they separate when we want: best of both worlds. Here is a link to the Amazon frame we got. It works for a standard King & two XL twins.

Wood? What kind of fancy bed frames are we talking about now?

This type of bed frame is basically just as good, adjust and dismantles super-easily, and still can have a headboard attached to look nice.

I just moved a week or so ago, and compared to the hassle of moving my mattress, the bedframe and headboard were a dream.

Here is a copy of the original post:

I am requesting a loan of $110 to buy a bed frame. My mattress is currently on the floor and with the cold weather and winter coming, I need to get my bed off the floor and away from the wall (with headboard). I get sick very easily, especially in the winter, so this is important. The one I'm getting I also need for storage space, as it's 18 inches and my room is small so I don't have much space for anything.

The one I'm getting is https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B017YETHUS/ref=twister_B07C67CKT5?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 off Amazon. I will also accept having the bed frame gifted rather than money being loaned directly to me and then paying the user back.

I am on disability, so I have a fixed monthly income and haven't been able to buy a bed frame yet because I had other things that needed buying. I am enrolling in a program to help people on disability find work, so I'm hoping to have a job in the next month or so to make things easier.

I get paid at the end of the month, so I will pay back $75 when my payment comes in and $55 Dec 10 with my GST. I will pay back via Paypal or E-transfer for those that can receive payments that way.

I need help making my bed more sturdy.

Pictures: https://imgur.com/a/QnUyL

I just bought a king sized bed along with a king sized heavy 200lb latex mattress. I myself weigh 225lbs and the manufacturer told me the bed could support 600 lbs+ easily. Last night while having sex on it it already came close to breaking, luckily we stopped in time. The two middle support beam legs slid out from under the bed. I don't think there is permanent damage but it definitely was scary and it killed the mood. I haven't even had the bed for an entire week yet!

The entire bed frame is a custom made solid wood bed with metal on metal construction. There is six legs total, four corner legs and the two legs for the two center beams. Quite frankly though, I feel they don't give enough support to the middle of the bed. The two center rails are 1" x 2"s. The middle legs seem to slip out all the time despite me using as much strength as possible to adjust the feet. It doesn't seem well designed.

How can I go about reinforcing it a bit and making it reliable for sex? Would it be good to put a 1x4 or a 2x4 between the two legs so they don't slide out? Should I put some of these heavy duty 2,000lb levelers on the sides of each center support leg to give it some side to side resistance?

I'm also thinking of running a few 1x4s or 2x4s between the two center rails then attaching these legs.

What is your thoughts? How would you go about reinforcing my bed?

I don't have experience sleeping on a thin mattress on the floor, but we have a latex foam mattress with a zippered casing that can be cleaned (not at home) or replaced if ever needed. We've had this mattress for about 7 years and it seems like it could last forever. Even if the softest layer of foam eventually broke down, we could easily replace just that layer with a new one. My only "regret" is that I bought the most expensive model with 4 layers of foam. I now know I really didn't need 4 layers and maybe wouldn't have needed more than 2. It was fairly expensive but not absurdly so ($2500), but if it lasts my lifetime, then that seems like a deal. Came with 2 pillows too.

ETA: we have it on an inexpensive metal slat frame I bought on Amazon.
