I’ve spent the past week visiting Trump voting, Republican family members in these states. The older members of my family don’t like Trump. At all. Several of them cringe at the mere mention of him. One has given her dogs a Trump squeaky toy that the dog absolutely loves to maul. It’s actually pretty hysterical.

Then the topic of the the elections of 2016 and 2020 came up. Infuriatingly, every single one of them said something to the effect of, “I voted for him and will vote for him again, but that doesn’t mean I like him or support his policies.” One family member even said something like, “As long as those corrupt Biden’s stay out of the White House, it’s worth it.”

And their children? Liberals - the motivated, registered, and voting kind.

"Don't be an advertiser for our corporate overlords", "Why didn't you post a link?" Jeesh, you can't please everyone, so I'll please no one.

Except every dog deserves to have one (I manufacture these).

When he goes nuts when you're on his level - don't get on his level. You shouldn't put your face near a young dog's mouth, especially when you know he nips.

Long line or leash him in the house so he listens to you. If he's not going to his crate, it's not interesting enough to him. Try giving him a special treat he only ever gets while in the crate. When my dog sees the peanut butter jar, she skedaddles up over the stairs because she knows it's crate time.

Jumping is normal puppy behaviour. Ignore it and only give him attention when he's "4 on the floor". No talking to him, not even eye contact.

Puppies are a lot of work and your family signed on for it, so it's time to get working! Keep him exercised so Tucker is tuckered. Build or buy him a flirt pole. (easy on the jumping though, his little bones haven't fused yet and can be damaged from too much jumping...or rather, landing).

On furniture...is he ever allowed on furniture at all? Put a dog bed or mat in the living room. When he gets on furniture, tell him off or down (although down often means "get on your belly") and either lure him or place him on the bed or mat.

Pups are mouthy destructive little demons. They make stuffless soft toys just watch the squeakers. First things to come out. There are also soft toys you can put plastic water bottles in for them to crunch. Rope toys can be bought or made by braiding fleece. Cute pup!

I have fake blood from a local film makeup shop and I was thinking of using a squeaker from a squeaky toy like this so that when I bite into it, it will bleed. But I'm not too sure if it will work. Does any dragulite have any ideas?

u/Aupolei · 3 pointsr/Dogtraining

I love antlers, raw bones (beef and venison are my choice), and cow hooves (my pittie's favorite). But for more options:

I use Kong's durable plushies. We have a couple of Cozies and a Whale that do pretty well. Small ears and fins are easily chewed off, but my destruct-o-dog seems ok with them. He also has a bull that he likes but hasn't destroyed!

Experience: "Fostering" a pit bull pup that was 11 months old when he came to me. Fishy

u/devilbird99 · 2 pointsr/Dachshund

Ours plays with stuff less squeak toys. Only thing that's stood up and she loves them just as much as a stuffed toy. Found in many varieties here

u/hi_from_brian · 2 pointsr/dogs

I have read some reports of dogs breaking their teeth on Nylabones, and they have never been our dogs' favorite thing anyway, so here are some alternate ideas for ya:

  • Tie off a squeaky tennis ball loosely, in an old sock. Depending on the weave and material of the sock this toy will last from 20 minutes to 4 days.

  • Toilet paper and paper towel tubes, or plain cardboard sections (no dyes or tape, etc.; I often use the unprinted flaps of shipping boxes). Non-toxic, fibrous if they ingest it, and it lets them destroy something without costing you a penny.

  • Fill a treat ball with 10-15 small, soft, training treats, and watch them push it around with their nose for the next 10-30 minutes.

  • Build a treat puzzle yourself with layers of non-toxic boxes, take out containers (NO STYROFOAM), and newspaper. Sprinkle small treats in each layer and hold it all together with a little string or paper tape.

  • Like most breeds, both the Staffy and Terrier lines love to lay tug of war. If your dog has good teeth you can use something like this, or this one if they have any oral issues. Just remember to put away toys like this when you are not actively using them, or they will get shredded/chewed to bits.

    Have fun!

We use the Busy Buddy Twist and Treat: http://www.amazon.com/PetSafe-Buddy-Twist-Treat-Medium/dp/B0002I0RMG/ref=pd_sim_petsupplies_11?ie=UTF8&refRID=0NM72T2WZZ50ETS0R00Y

It twists apart for you to put the kibble in, then twist it back together either all the way (for the hardest challenge) or a little less to make it easier. It takes him about 15 minutes to get all the food out, by pushing it around, lifting and dropping, and standing it on its end with his nose. It's still pretty solid when he drops it, but more rubbery than the Kong Wobbler.

u/ImADoctorNotASpatula · 2 pointsr/funny

Doesn't look like it, but shipping is only $5 on this one!

But it's probably cheaper to make one yourself. Good luck. :)

u/dandeeo · 2 pointsr/dogs

My little guy has jaws of steel, too, but I've had some success with the Tuffy ring series and the goDog plush toys. Supposedly they have this special "chew guard technology" that makes them more resistant. Going on 6 months with both brands toys and all of my purchases are still relatively intact!

u/AngryMaiden · 2 pointsr/pitbulls

My dog loves these and so far he hasn't been able to destroy it. They make frisbees too.

We have the remnants of one of those firehose frisbees in our yard - that's probably the toughest actual 'fabric' toy we've found. Mostly we've just resigned ourselves to spending a small fortune on dog toys...

u/sdowning10 · 2 pointsr/dogs

I have a pit/boxer mix-- so lots of energy. If your dog has a high prey drive, you can use this toy, it's called a "flirt pole". http://www.amazon.com/Bow-Wow-Flirt-Pole-Exercise-Fleece/dp/B007O02C6Y

You can make them pretty easily also using a pvc pipe and rope. My dog loves it and it tires her out after about 20-30 minutes of chasing it around outside. Good luck!

u/goldfish_king · 2 pointsr/dogs

I don't think it's worth risking. It's not uncommon for dogs to get obsessed with light and shadows after playing with laser pointers, so I don't chance it and don't recommend that anyone else chance it either.

My parents' dog loved playing with a laser pointer we got out for their cats, so we got him a flirt pole instead and he loves it.

u/wlberg · 2 pointsr/Dogtraining

My husband and I took his family dogs (mini schnauzers) who had been trained out of playing with toys because they couldn't distinguish between their own toys and the grandkids' toys. One of them was never really into toys, but one of them had loved them previously so we bought her toys that she played with "in secret" (she would pop up in the front window with a toy in her mouth when we were coming home or leaving the house). You can try leaving the toys around and seeing if they move?

Both of these dogs LOVED puzzle toys with treats. Brody (who was never into playing with toys or balls) loses her mind for a kong toy or a food ball or a sliding puzzle toy. Most of these we fill with a mixture of regular kibble and treats as a way to combine meal time and play time.

The first one we got as a freebie when buying something else lasted my two wiener dogs a long time. My pretty girl passed away and we ended up with my boy dog's 1/2 doxie daughter.

They go through squeaky toys like they grow on trees. We got this Kong ballistic tug of war toy for them, and it lasted about three minutes. Three damned minutes before it was just shredded. It was $20 at the pet store!

I think we will be looking into these rubber belts the /u/beeblez talked about.

u/someonespookie · 2 pointsr/Dogtraining

Agree with you on this. My dog LOVES chewing on this one and it's still going strong!

u/midnighteskye · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I saw some puppy stuff on your list, here is some things I added for my dog (not sure on sizing for my dog with these or what dog you have but they are cool)

Bow Tie

Necktie

A little over but it's an adorable Pink Elephant

For you:
Camera Necklace

Little bit more but they are reflectors for photography.

Leave in Conditioner

You might enjoy this book I found it amusing.

I stole some of your items for my list! Some of them were already mutual lol.

u/finkydink · 2 pointsr/dogs

We have these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0006VB3ZE/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1412114907&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40

But not sure how they would hold up if your dog chews through rubber toys. My boxer is kind of gentle with soft toys but will chew through rubber toys.

My friends have this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0042JWIFK/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1412115099&sr=8-2&pi=SX200_QL40

And their dog hasn't managed to break it yet.

my puppy loves this. Other similar toys work well too. You can hide treats in each "peg"

Squeeky penguin!

Roxy is my furry child! haha She caught parvo in April and was very sick for almost a month. We thought we were going to lose her at one point but she made it through! We had to throw away all of her toys because they could have been contaminated so we're trying to build her stash back up haha!

Here we are. This was the day she started acting like how she was before she got sick. And sorry we look so grubby we had just returned from the gym haha. Thank you for the contest!

Actually, she loves my deceased corgi's rubber tire. It is sort of morbid, isn't it? But she also really loves this awesome donut I got her for Christmas!

u/alohadave · 2 pointsr/hotdogs

I'll eat a hot dog cooked any way it can be made, and I've made it just about every way it can be made.

What I've been doing lately is putting them in the air fryer for 4 minutes at 400 degrees. They get nice and crispy from the heat, and they expand like crazy.

Even better if you swirley cut them first with this: https://www.amazon.com/Curl-Dog-Grilling-Sausage-Slicers/dp/B00ZAFHQCU

Wood Treat Puzzles like the ones Zanie's, Ethical Pets, and Nina Ottosson make are all ones my pit likes. Since they're made of wood they'll last a while. Also the Premier Tug-a-Jug has kept him guessing for 2 weeks now.

u/Butterbeansie · 1 pointr/puppy101

We used a trainer but pet smart is a great option! We chose group classes since it teaches socialization and that's where you will get bite inhibition. It will be frustrating at first bc puppy won't listen to you but stick with it!

We use several treat dispensing toys and as for the Kong I will actually soak her food in water for a bit until it absorbs some and then freeze it because she is having stomach issue so we aren't using treats. She really has to work at it to get it out. Here are some of the toys we use:

u/Sexycommenter · 1 pointr/aww

I got mine A kong wubba buddy - the rabbit and he loved that thing..It was his favorite toy, until a friends dog (pitbull) got the kong part out of it.. she was a beast when it came to toys..

Grote and Weigel is my favorite hot dog. One place in New Jersey uses them (maybe two because I know another place is a relative of the first place). I took a roadtrip up your way and on my way home managed to find them in the supermarket. I stopped at Blackie's, and I may have stopped at Capitol Lunch. It's hard to remember because I stopped at so many places. I was going to do like 50 or 60 hot dog places in 3 or 4 day trip once. I also went to Ted's to try a steamed cheeseburger. Juiciest I've ever had, but super bland. Needs a lot of salt.

I don't mind beef or combo dogs, I think they both have their taste, but I will take a Grote and Weigel as my first choice if it were available. The place in New Jersey that serves them is an hour away from me.

Bun? Any bun is fine with me.

Cooking? Grilled or fried. I don't care for steamed, unless I'm on the go getting a dog off a street cart then I'll accept that. I use this device:

https://www.amazon.com/Curl-Dog-Grilling-Sausage-Slicers/dp/B00ZAFHQCU

It makes a spiral cut hot dog, so every part gets that crispy fried flavor.

Toppings? I prefer chili sauce, or greek chili specifically. I also like unique toppings. Mustard is great. I know one place who used to make an Italian chili that kind of tasted mustardy, but also had potatoes in it.

My friend draws a lot of hot dogs (and other food and things).. check out this Texas Weiner:

http://hawkkrall.storenvy.com/collections/1670445-prints/products/28206752-texas-weiner-art-print

As for adding reviews of hot dog brands, I don't think I can think of things to say. This is an all beef, 4/1 hot dog, tastes good not too salty. I think all reviews would all be similar. Unless I do one line reviews.. just give them a rating from 1 to 5, and just write a quick blurb.

I bought one for my brother's dog at Walmart. There are similar ones available on amazon.

Mix ground meat with mashed sweet potato. Stick it in a West Paw Tux or a Kong Quest. My dog loves it.

  1. Kong Wubba Friend. Summit has the fox and it's his absolute favorite toy. He likes other wubbas too, but the fox is his favorite by a long shot. It's also super durable and doesn't have a bunch of stuffing to pull out. He loves the squeaking, the floppy tentacles, and it makes a great fetch toy as well.

  2. Nylabone Prime Rib. Summit loves all Nylabones. His favorite is actually the dinosaur one, but I worry about the size of it and it stresses me out when he chews it. He loves the one we got him on sale after Christmas and I like the size. Really though, any Nylabone chew could be substituted in here. Summit loves chewing and Nylabones give him a great outlet for that.
  3. Omega Paw Tricky Treat Ball. I love the idea of food dispensing toys and Summit does too. It keeps him entertained and out of trouble for quite a while and he loves pushing it around and trying to get the food out. He gets extremely excited whenever he sees us pull this particular toy out of the toy bin.
  4. Chuck It Max Glow Ball. We're still working on Summit's ball drive and it is definitely improving with age (yesterday he was actually running into a lake to fetch tennis balls which was a big first for him), but I love the bond that fetch gives. I also love things that glow in the dark (we could play when it gets dark out!) and the durability of the Chuck It balls as opposed to regular tennis balls.
  5. Kong. A treat dispensing toy I can leave with him that he doesn't need as much room to use as the tricky treat ball. I also love trying the different recipes to throw in his Kong and it is great for calming him down.

Oh my gosh. I work from home and have been trying to think of as many things as possible!

I use a LOT of paper bags, toilet paper/paper towel tubes and boxes of different shapes. My dog is really small, so it takes her a while to get through those. I've put kibble in the ends of long socks too (she can't chew through the sock, so it takes her a while to get them out).

I use small kongs, and just got this that I modify by stuffing all kinds of things in that she has to get out.

Thanks for posting this! Would love to see more ideas!

My dog goes nutzo for anything that squeaks, so much so that she destroys the squeaky part within minutes. We've had pretty good success with the Kong Wubba and the Kong Wubba Friends. They're both durable enough not to be punctured and can withstand being left outside in the rain.

I swear by these. They cost more than the average plush toys but they last. Bought half a dozen for the city shelter I help out at and their mostly bully breeds that come in haven't been able to tear them to pieces yet. It's a toy that lasts and doesn't create a mess.

u/owlblackeverything · 1 pointr/dogs

If she likes carrying toys around, 'babying' them you could head over to the thrift store and just buy a ton of them for super cheap! There's a really cool store near my house that washes everything and they're all pretty nice and I just let my pup get into the bag as soon as we get home and it's like Christmas for him! He then changes his favorite toy every few days. Just make sure to not get any with bean bag feet! And then when they're eventually torn to shreds it's not like you spent $12+ on something that will be thrown away.

Of course our other dog will ONLY play with this mallard. He's a toy snob.

Oh man lol. I buy my dogs Westpaw toys and haven't had any break yet. She eats hardwood sticks sticks, like 6 inch in diameter (slowly). She chews through ropes (if not watched and told to stop lol). She used to eat her stuffed toys, so we quit buying them. Thankfully she's only a 35 pound herding dog, so the westpaw indestructable toys have been plenty for her. This seems like it is going to last her forever. They offer a 1 time warranty if your dog destroys the toy too.

u/stamp_of_origin · 1 pointr/Dachshund

Our doxie mix loves chewing fabric as well! We've tried just about every toy under the sun, and the best fabric-covered one we've found is the ZippyPaws donut. No stuffing, and the plastic inner ring helps keep your dog from chewing through the layers of fabric. They're one of the only toys that we've had last for more than a day or so!

u/eastbond · 1 pointr/dogs

My 5.5 year old Cockapoo, Clancy, looooves tennis balls, Zippy Paws squeaky toys (specifically the ones with squeaky toys inside that he has to take out), and squeaky rubber balls. Pro tip on the Zippy Paws: you can find them at HomeGoods in the US for a fraction of the cost.

My dog also has jaws of steel and we haven't been able to make any plush toys, even the "indestructible power chewer" ones, last for more than maybe 20-30 minutes. The closest we get are the Huggle Hounds, which take maybe an hour for him to get a hole in, but I can usually sew the holes back shut and get them to last longer.

This breaks all our hearts as this poor dog ADORES soft plush toys, but his whole goal of having them is to rip them to shreds and eat all the shreds, so he only gets them for VERY short, HEAVILY supervised intervals. We typically will give them to him right before dinner or a long walk and we try to limit it to him playing fetch with them so he can't just sit down and work on destroying it. Then once he's starting to get destructive or way too excited about the toy, we distract him by going for a long walk/giving him dinner when we take it away so we're trading up and the toy is completely gone until we next feel like he's good enough to play with it.

The majority of his other toys are chew toys as a result, and we rotate them every few days (as in he only ever has 3 of his 10 bones out, but every few days we swap one for one we've kept out of circulation for a few weeks). We have a large variety of nylabones for him, including the power chewer ones, and their synthetic antler and cow bones (he chews too aggressively for real antlers). With these the rotation really helps keep him interested, it's like he gets a new chew toy every 4 days without us constantly buying him toys.

In addition to the chew toys, we have 3 squishier toys that he hasn't been able to destroy so far (which has completely shattered our expectations): a Kong ball, the Chuckit synthetic tennis balls, and the hurley. The chuckit balls squeak so that makes up for not having as many plush toys, and the hurly he alternately chews like a bone by himself, or can be used to play fetch and tug with us. His favorites are the hurley and the nylabone fake antler.

u/womenginerd · 1 pointr/Boxers

Our boxer has a special love for destroying things, but a few toys that have managed to last:

  • Good old fashioned Kong's
  • Pocket Treat thing from JW -Obsessed with this thing
  • Chuckit Kick it - Purchased after she loved a foam soccer ball to death
  • Chuckit Rebounce - only tennis ball/fetch balls that don't get crushed to smithereens
  • Tuffy soft toys - she wanted to rip all the stuffing out when she first got it, but besides that first little tear its held up
  • We've also braided together old sheets to make long tug of war toys, the solid sheet fabric seems to hold up better than regular rope toys.
