Thank you!

Before I bought this dress, I had SO MANY different ideas of what I wanted to do. I knew I would be buying a white dress (or ivory or champagne or whatever) so I researched tons of ways to dye/color different materials and painting/dying fabric techniques. Also saved lots of pictures of designer & couture dresses for inspiration (fell in love with lots of $10k+ dresses! ha!).

Once I had this dress, I did a lot of experimenting with a spare piece of tulle flower fabric to make sure I got it right, but I wasn't able to find the perfect color gradient in any one ink or pen, so I had to do a combination.

Here are the materials I used for the dye/coloring:

  • BIC Intensity Permanent Markers
  • Generic Fabric Markers
  • Faber-Castell India Ink Pitt Artist Pens (my local art supply store carries these so I was able to buy single pens in just the right color)

I didn't discover the india ink pens until I was 2/3 done, and I wish I had thought of them earlier. The ink was MUCH more saturated, but didn't absorb into the tulle as easily as I thought it would.

The BIC pens were my #1 favorite, aside from they run out of ink quickly. They absorbed into the tulle really well, and the colors were just spot-on perfect. You can order individual pens from their website ($1 each), so I ended up ordering about 20-30 pens of each color from the coral pink up (they didn't have a darker coral/salmon/red that I liked).

When I started, I vastly underestimated the amount of time and ink it would take to complete. I ended up having to place orders with BIC 3 times! It took about a total of 4 weeks to finish. Here is a picture of the panel before it was removed for coloring, you can kinda see that it is actually one long, continuous ribbon of tulle. But what you can't see is that the ribbon is actually about 3" wide and sewn up the middle, so the whole ribbon is actually two pieces of material right next to each other (gives it a nice fluffy look). That made it a pain in the ass to color properly... I pretty much had to do each area twice to make sure the color was the same on both sides, all the way to the seam in the middle.

Overall, it has been a big project of love, and I would do it again 1000%. Not only does the dress now feel like "me" color and design wise, but all the work I put into it makes it feel even more special.

I absolutely recommend working on a dress to make it your own! Just try to be flexible in your creativity since one technique might work for one dress but not another. Good luck and let me know when you find or make your perfect non-white dress!

I used paint markers on the whole model, except the insides of the thrusters, which were too hard to reach.

To do the thrusters, I had some leftover minwax polyshade, which I diluted with the last of my paint thinner and dipped the thrusters in. It didn't leave a thick enough coat, so I made it stronger. In the process I made it too strong, which led to all of the details on the ship being obscured by thick black paint! Looking up on the shelf in front of the sink, I saw some of my beloved's super nail polish remover. I grabbed that and a toothbrush, and was able to thin the thick coat. I then spread some across the whole model to give it that "weathered" appearance.

IMHO, it matches up well with the Y-Wings I did a few weeks ago.

You can buy minwax polyshade and paint thinner at at hardware store, nail polish remover from a dollar store or whenever.

I used Touchnew markers.
Numbers; 64,76,182,CG8,83,143,84,132,145,75, white deleter for the eyes, I overlapped # 76 on 182. # 64 is used to shade for the blue. # 145 is for the shade for the white on the dress. CG8 is for the dress and shoes. #84 is the ribbon. # 83 is for the shade for the dress. For the black I used whatever but make the lines thick haha rem is thick lulz. I used a color pencil for the blush. For the skin I used #132. TBH I would go fairer. Like #26 or #131. I used a micron pen for some of the black I have a black Copic marker so I used that to fill in some stuff I would not use the Copic cuz the brush is hard to control for me now. I would recommend drawing her before you even start to color her. Here is the sauce for the markers I used. And the rest of the art supplies I used. I would not suggest the paper I used.

I think you're thinking of liquid chalk markers. They work very well, however they can be a pain to clean on non-chalkboard surfaces (by this I mean actual chalk board as opposed to something like this where you use chalkboard paint on wood). Mileage will vary, but reds are the worst to completely remove.

Staedtler watercolor brush marker for the green color - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077125LSV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_6FvQBb5CK3G7N

Pentel Waterbrush - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AX31TZO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_HHvQBbGG92C3B

I used the staedtler brush marker to color on a block. I then used the water brush to pick-up the green color and paint on the paper. That's for the watercolor items. Let me know what other materials you're interested in if I missed something you needed. The leaves, days and hydrate stuff are stamps and I used the staedtler brush marker to color on the stamp for the green items. Not sure if I have links for those, but I could find some if needed.

Thank you so much for hosting this contest! There are WAY too many classic Office quotes but most of my favorite ones are from my favorite character, Dwight! I actually have a "Shrute Farms" sweatshirt that was given to me as an Amazon gift and it's the ABSOLUTE best. A quote I always remember is the acronym he made of his name: "Determined, Worker, Intense, Good worker, Hard worker, Terrific." It's inspirational but also...classic Dwight.

If chosen, I'd really love these pens. I often create and send postcards/greetings cards to friends, which is what I could really use them for :)

u/HipHappinenGrandma · 2 pointsr/bulletjournal

No problem! Sorry though, looks like they marked the price up to almost $19. IMHO it's still a good deal, normally those 2 pens are $10, and a single pack of 5 Zebra midliners cost over $5. Also I don't know how to format links so bear with me:

The notebook is still the same price, I preferred the grid over dotted just for straight lines, but the dotted one is $1 cheaper:

Haven’t done a spread in awhile but was inspired by my HS English teacher posting hers and so dug my planner and sticker books out of boxes and sat down to plan out my “thanksgiving” week (family back home and I are doing it the weekend prior since it’s easier to get off work)
happy planner

Was pretty satisfied with it. I’d love to work on my penmanship and lettering ❤️

I’ve started doing the chalkboards at work since nobody else at my store is really into it and it’s been fun so far! I even surprised everyone with personalized nametags for our holiday launch~

I use these markers for all my chalk work!

Will update with lettering practice!

EDIT lettering update:
practice will make perfect right? 🙈

I'm liking these for the price. Finer tip version here.

u/trimi75 · 1 pointr/Coloring

Thank you so much for all of this information! It helps a great deal.

I do work in pencil for detailed things, but sometimes I want a break so I do something easier & faster in markers. I especially like mandalas, so a fine point is a must! I like Sharpies and Bic Mark-Its extra fine points but they are so limited in colors. I've tried just about every kind. Of marker, but the nice high ends like Copic are too pricey for just coloring.

218 colors is amazing!

I did find this set on Amazon that looks good. I'd love a brush/fine tip combo.

So many options!

(I do the marker/pencil combo, too!)

And I think they write very nicely! Both sides!

u/LiamtheFilmMajor · 1 pointr/bulletjournal

Just to give another option besides the Tombows, I use a combination of the Huhuhue Double Ended and the Huhuhue Fine Tips.

With a decent notebook (ie. not a composition book) I get minimal bleeding and the pens are super affordable.

I don't know if you have a case for pens, but I recently bought this one and I'm super happy with it.
