Please look into chair inserts or exercise balls and rubber bands across the chair legs. Each of these allow the student to move without being a huge distraction to the others. Fellow hEDS, got married last July (pre-diagnosis), and I think I’ve got some ideas for you:

For the shoes, not sure where to look - I have really HUGE feel (size 12-13 women’s), so I struggled too, but ended up finding a cheap pair that looked great and kinda worked for me. They were tolerable but not comfortable, and I regret not focusing more time on finding a better pair.

For the registry, I’ve had really good luck with the OXO Good Grips series of stuff (their handles are chunky enough that I don’t tend to sublux my fingers, even gripping hard)

Check out getting a yoga ball, possibly with a chair adapter. I work in tech from home and game a lot, so I'm in my desk chair for up to 14 hours on some days, and a normal chair was KILLING my lower back. I ordered one of these, and while I still get sore on occasion (I'm pushing 30 so that's the result of a mostly stationary life I guess) it's miles above my old standard chair and the soreness isn't nearly as bad.

Though the latter cost an order of magnitude less than the former, I like it much better! The only caveat: it makes you use muscles that might be weak from not being used. I recommend against using it for 8 hours on day 1... Work up to it like any new "workout."

My goal is to spend the next 6 weeks getting to a point where I truly love myself. I feel like my friends here and IRL tell me how amazing I am and that I'm a great person but I just don't see it. I would like to see it and appreciate what they see in me instead of wanting to run when I hear it. Id like to get to a point where I can take a compliment. So to do this I'll start by not running away when people compliment me or trying to say "oh no I'm really not" or one of the many excuses I use. I'll be evaluating myself by making sure I don't do this and hopefully at the end I will be able to take a compliment.

I will also be working on maintaining a healthier lifestyle. My goal is to workout for at least 2 hours 5 days a week. I want to finally look decent in a bikini this summer. Hell I live in FL. So basically I need to cut the crap and not give up. This past week has been intense and I just have wanted to give up so many times. But I keep telling myself nothing worth doing is ever easy. I plan on using my FitBit I just got to keep my progress and encourage me. I'll consider myself successful if I loose the weight goal I have and can complete a 5k.

  • You can make a serviceable standing desk by stacking a small table on top of a desk.

  • If you're using a computer, make sure the monitor is at eye level. Screen risers are good, but stack books under your monitor if you're slumming it

  • If you're writing on paper, having an angled work surface like a drafting table is better for your back, wrists and arms.

  • Exercise balls are a good alternative for desk chairs, they force you to adopt better posture and engage the balancing muscles in your back. Balance ball chars are also a thing that secure you in place, making it more convenient

  • bad posture is an unfortunate reality for desk-workers. I've had back troubles for years. The best way to deal with it is to strengthen and stretch the muscles in your back. Take frequent stretch breaks (every hour or so), and probably once a day do a routine of planks, pushups, squats and dips (that's what I do anyway)

I have an exercise ball rolly chair thing, kind of like this one from Gaiam on Amazon. It's helped a ton with discomfort in my tailbone while sitting. I also keep a permanent water bottle at my desk that I refill often. It helps to keep a special one just for work so I don't have to remember to bring one from home every day.

If you're not looking for anything particularly luxurious try a yoga ball. They're cheap as shit and can be used as a foot rest as well. They're also easy to move and store and super good for your posture (I guess).

They even make a special yoga ball chair if you're interested.

You should go to a Dr. Sorry, but it's true.
It could be more than just lack to padding (fat). I am and have always been very thin. I all of a sudden have pain in the same area and was diagnosed (MRI) with a bone marrow edema in my sits bone. It's from a number of factors including overuse, inflammation, sitting at a desk, and my mattress needing to be updated. I did strong curves and ride a bicycle 4 times a week, I sit on a Giam ball chair (link below) and got a new (expensive) mattress.
I still have pain when sitting for over an hour so I'm looking at standing desks. I've also had a cortisone shot in the area. All of which has helped.
Go to the Dr and find out what's going on. Plenty of skinny people can sit all day without pain - something likely needs attention from a Dr. Good luck.

A yoga ball works great, and it doesn't hurt if you happen to knock into it.
I use this one and it works great, the slightly oval shape and a seam at the base means it doesn't roll around the room. I just shove into a known corner of the room, and it is easy to find and move without taking off the headset.

30 minutes will definitely be enough time for them to accomplish something, but we aren't miracle workers so don't get upset if leave still feeling a little tight.
Are you able to get a new office chair? If you have a big yoga ball at home, I'd suggest bringing that in to work to use as a chair for a little while, people in the office might give you odd looks but it's worth it if it keeps you pain free. You could even get one of these. Regardless of what chair you sit in all day, you should set reminders for yourself to get up and move every hour or so, just getting up and stretching for a few minutes can really help avoid the stress building up to where you are now.

My point is that your best chance at success is not to come up with excuses or be a victim. Instead, figure out how to get some exercise, in spite of being busy and having a sedentary job. Sure, it's not the same as freeing up an hour or two a day to 'hit the gym', but if you can get 25% of your exercise requirements addressed without adding a 25th hour to your day, your 25% closer to your end goal.

Lots of little things add up... A little more exercise, a little more water intake, a little more attention to portion control, a little more of your plate filled with veggies. Suddenly, a new you! You can do this.
