Buy your daughter a cute stuffed animal have her promise to keep it with her at all times. Put one of these bad boys into it with access to it in a descret manner. Battery life says it's about 14 days just keep it charged.
Doesn't have to be a stuffed animal because you can hide it anywhere. Just something she will keep with her that won't raise any bells for your ex.
Might seem too over protective but with his actions and words I think it would be a good investment.
thats so 1970's, GPS Fuel realys are the thing now.
Here's the tracker I used.
All you need is a cheap pre-paid GSM data plan. Here's the plan I use. Put the minimum amounts of minutes, data, and text messaging on it (you do need all 3). The carrier does need to support 2G, which is becoming more rare these days. That's why I chose US Mobile.
All you do is call the number assigned to the tracker. It will text you back the GPS coordinates of the vehicle.
It has a built-in battery, so even if the Jeep's battery is removed, it will still be able to work.

Reviews and questions/answers say it's not very accurate. And it looks like the battery lasts six hours before needing to recharge.
I wouldn't trust this thing. Seems to be more of a toy than a real GPS.
The basic idea is that any GPS logger that exports a .gpx file can be used with any digital camera. As long as the clock on your camera is correct, during post-production you sync the .gpx data file with your photos using Lightroom or other software. Your location data is matched to your photo based on time (at 4:05:42, you were at such-and-such coordinates).
Lightroom 4 has .gpx import built-in. For Lightroom 3 or earlier, you can use the donationware plug-in from Jeffrey Friedl called GPS Support. If you don't have Lightroom, Mac users can use MyTracks (works with JPGs, not sure about RAW files).
In early 2011, before a trip to London, did some testing with GPS loggers (I don't own an iPhone). The main problem I had was getting the logger to sync with my Mac. If you are a PC user, you'll have no problem; the units generally come with a small-size CD with PC software on it. On the Mac, you have to download third-party software that will sync with your unit. Most (all?) Garmins will sync with Google Earth directly. For other units you can use the free HoudahGPS or the inexpensive and very elegant MyTracks.
I began with a handheld Garmin 60C. It sync'd great and is accurate, but the battery only lasts a few hours, not long enough for a whole day. And the unit is enormous; carrying this big thing around London was not something I wanted to do.
So, I ordered the iGotU (US$60). The plastic on the logger broke pretty much immediately. I sent it back.
Then I spent a little more and got the QStarz BT1300ST, which is a beautiful little unit. The battery lasts all day, and it's small and has a nice keychain attachment. I was able to get it to occasionally sync with my desktop iMac, but it never sync'd with my MacBook. It appears to be highly accurate, but since I couldn't reliably sync it with the MacBook I would have with me in London, I decided to try another unit.
I then got a Wintec WBT-201, it is almost as small as the QStarz, and I can reliably get it to connect to all my macs. Unfortunately, it does not appear to be terribly accurate. During a walk along the south side of the Thames River, the unit had me crossing the river zigzagging from the north side to the south side several times, as if I were swimming across the river again and again.
Since then, there are new versions of HoudahGPS, and I even have a new MacBook Air with a new operating system. I really ought to try syncing the QStarz again, it's a tiny little unit. It's entirely possible that it sycs fine with the MBA, I just haven't been traveling in quite a while, so I haven't tried it.
Make a eye sweep of your area. Verify you have ALL your stuff before you leave a table. Dont let yourself get into a hurry.

Please don't use that shield. 2G tech is dead in the US. The only device I have found that is future proof is this guy: https://www.amazon.com/Botletics-SIM7000-Cellular-Antenna-SIM7000A/dp/B07H3XKNLH/ref=sxts_b2b_ccp_search_reorder?keywords=sim7000a&pd_rd_i=B07H3XKNLH&pd_rd_r=fa22f24c-ed2a-431e-bfd8-2b929cb54ae8&pd_rd_w=68sYc&pd_rd_wg=yinfU&pf_rd_p=a7bfb983-e674-4caa-917b-596cc469ad1f&pf_rd_r=DZFYXZZA36S33EP519F6&qid=1566335795&s=gateway

Has LTE CAT-M1 and/or NB-IoT so you should be set for the foreseeable future. If you use hologram SIMs you can send a SMS over TCP and not pay the 20cents per SMS. I can help with this if you need some guidance.

If anyone knows of any other shields available that do LTE-M or NB-IOT I would love to see them.
Found this on Amazon for about $125: https://www.amazon.com/Tracking-Device-Cellular-Carrier-Locator/dp/B008980K78
Since you know the vehicle so well you could probably find a good place to hide it that thieves won't find immediately.
Personally, for the amount of time, money, and sentimental value in the vehicle, I'd drop the $1k for a professional solution.

This isn't something I have purchased, but like you considered for a loved one.

Keep in mind along with the initial price you pay a monthly subscription. I also checked into using these tags, but battery life is poor.

The Botletics SimCom SIM7000G (global) shield for Arduino Uno is supported pretty well with example code for development. The GPS/GSM/LTE are all inside the module. The board has a high accuracy temp sensor. You would have to wire in an accelerometer, but could be easily done with the I2C bus.
Before you spend any money on the tile, just be advised - it uses Bluetooth Low Energy tracking to track the tiles, meaning its effective range is no more than 100ft away from your phone. So unlike what /u/FutZ247 said, they'd be useless if someone stole your shit, unfortunately.

Also, the battery lasts about a month or something, and can't be replaced without mangling the tile itself, and by doing so, you risk disabling its functionality all together. The business model is that you buy a new one when the battery dies - It's a very wasteful product.
If you want to keep track of your stuff, use something with actual GPS functionality, like those FBI bugs they use to track terrorists and shit.
Edit: I found this on amazon. Looks legit at a glance. Battery on this one is iffy, but at least is rechargeable.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Watch-Garmin-Fenix-Plus-Sapphire/dp/B07FGF2RLL - Just similary bought a fenix 5 plus (non-sapphire (£470ish) from Amz and to be honest didn't find a better deal)

Edit: in UK also!
We just ordered this for use at the cottage. It should be here next week sometime but we won't really get a chance to test it out until early August. Will report back!
They sure do!

I can't attest to their quality, but there are GPS tracking pendant/panic buttons that look vaguely decorative that could be integrated into a collar (maybe, they're not tiny). My father had dementia and we looked at various options to keep track of him in case he wandered off, came across a few...

If your bike is worth at least a hundred bucks to you, you could always buy something like this. They deterents are good, but tracking is better. Just how it in the seats or the handle bars or something.
It may be harder and longer, but it's the only guaranteed way out. A search and rescue guy I knew told me his longest rescue of 7 days after losing him was someone who just kept going, they even found his old camps before him. Said he thought if he just went further he'd find a road or something. The guy only survived because he was a stoner and brought a pack of snickers and many lighters.
If you don't want to go the smartphone route you could get a simple/cheap gps for this exact reason. I found This on Amazon it looks like most of its features don't work well/at all, but you can get it to, apparently reliably, print gps coordinates accurate to 20-30 feet and the rechargeable battery apparently lasts a while too. If you choose to get it, check it thoroughly before the return window is up to be positive 1) it works in your area well and 2) that you know how to translate what it gives you to your maps.
Hey man, there are no strikes in the woods, everyone in your group made it back. It might not have been the easiest way possible, but you made the right calls given the info at hand and made it out in one piece. A lot of people can't say the same. It looks like it was very enjoyable too, at least the beginning part. So success!

This is one of the better ones out there but the instructions for all of these devices are all a bit Park understand. These are all made in China that I've seen and the translations aren't exactly wonderful.
Little bit of a learning curve but the basic feature is if you call the SIM card number it will send you the GPS coordinates of the device and the bike.

saw this before, from the looks of it you'd have to cut your fork steerer tube shorter for it to work.

Test it and come back to tell us how you feel about it.
That's not how GPS locators work at all.
This is what a modern GPS locator looks like with a 48hr battery:
http://www.amazon.com/PocketFinder-Outdoor-Personal-GPS-Locator/dp/B00AKHV7RS
They cost $100 by themselves and require a monthly service fee.
Stuff like this shows me that very little research has apparently been done which dramatically lowers the expectations of the project.
Also, take a peek at the reviews on the second one you listed http://www.amazon.com/Spy-Spot-Investigations-Tracking-Enduro-pro/dp/B0085C9NLW
Some are saying that there are hidden usage fees. It appears that one works on a SIM as well.
I don't see many options that don't require GSM services to relay the GPS data.
I am very interested in this myself as I am likely about to drop over 1k on a new quad.. and I really, really don't want to lose it.
I started looking yesterday, and every GPS tracking unit I find is expensive and/or has a ridiculous monthly fee attached to it.. ridiculous like $50 + per month!
Things I noticed when I found some decent units - some didnt work on GPS at all, but instead required a cell tower.. you want GPS, not GPSR (which is a wireless routing protocol)
Options I've found:

How do you like to add location data to your pictures? I got GPS logger a while ago (long before I got a serious camera). Unfortunately, it doesn't work with Mac, and the software is pretty kludgy at best (which I opened on a Win8 VM). When I travel abroad, it'd be nice to have the location in the metadata so I can easily identify where it was shot, etc. But the workflow to get that info into the metadata currently is a major PITA. Any suggestions?
It could be a GPS tracking device. Most such devices are well-labeled as such, but some are not.
I would say the next step is get an electronics screwdriver and disassemble it. Most GPS trackers require a monthly service fee in order to function (though some do not, and tie into the network via a sim card. Your device may have a SIM card inside it. Even if it does not, taking apart the device may give you more information about who made it.
