Hey guys,

This is actually me....Thanks /u/bandholz for sending me the link.

Addressing the questions:

For this hairstyle I used a combination of:
KMS Sea Salt Spray

And

L'Oreal Homme Fiber Paste

I used the sea salt spray first as a primer and then applied heat while styling, then applied the fiber paste.

This was during the fall winter. During summer it's really humid where I live so I use a clay like Bumble & Bumble SumoTech because it's dry and doesn't get weighed down by the humidity.

It helps to let your hair grow quite a bit on top and keep the sides short.

As far as the comment on no side burns...well I would grow them if I could. It's really patchy and looks bad when I try, so I just keep them clean shaven... wish I could get my beard like /u/bandholz!

u/EvanTheDork · 33 pointsr/malehairadvice

I completely disagree. My best recommendation would be the following:

  • Use shampoo less frequently (but condition every time you shower)
  • If you comb your hair, tussle it with your hands or a towel after.
  • Use a product like sea salt spray, it gives that "I just left the beach no big deal" look. You can buy it here: http://www.amazon.com/OGX-Hair-Spray-Moroccan-Ounce/dp/B00BB3JZJW
  • Air dry, don't blow dry.
u/IamRick_Deckard · 32 pointsr/curlyhair

That shampoo has sulfates in it.

If you added a gel it would hold. I like Jessicurl Spiralicious gel.

Edit: The CIGI also has silcones in it:https://www.amazon.com/TIGI-Catwalk-Curls-Rock-Amplifier/dp/B0007506U2

Having trouble finding ingredients on others but it seems like your stuff is not CG-approved. Changing could help your hair. You can check ingredients at https://www.curlsbot.com/

Edit2: Didn't think to check the hair mask, but also not CG-friendly. Has mineral oil in it. https://www.lorealparisusa.com/products/hair-care/products/hair-mask/elvive-extraordinary-oil-curls-re-nourish-mask.aspx?shade=extraordinary-oil-curls-re-nourish-mask

Have you tried sun-in? (I believe that's what it called). It has mild bleach in it and your will lighten gradually too if you use it over time.

Edit: here it is!

I have fine, thin dark brown hair. If I let it air-dry, it's a little wavy. If I blow dry it, it is mostly straight.

Back in high school I had a Mohawk like that (though not as big) and I used a brand called Got 2b. It did what her hair is doing, folding in half and flinging back up

u/bpstyley · 16 pointsr/AskWomen

I don't have long, thin hair, but I do have major issues with flat hair due to buildup caused by hard water. Applying Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo to my roots before bed (and sometimes again in the morning), and using Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray after styling have been my saving graces. The Oribe spray is pricey, but one can lasts FOREVER (8+ months for me), smells amazing, and works incredibly well!

u/irregularheartbeat · 14 pointsr/malegrooming

First, you've got a good head of hair my man! You've got the foundation for a barber to do their thing!

My suggestion is a typical one found here, but you could rock pretty much any cut where its short on the sides & longer and styled on top. Here are a few photos for inspiration:

Side Part Comb Over

Fade with Sweep Back

Relaxed Brushed Over

It might just be the pictures you posted, but it doesn't look like you use any product in your hair. I would buy some product and test out different styles.

Here are a couple products (low to medium price range):

American Crew Forming Cream

Bed Head Matte Separation Wax

My personal favourite Fatboy

Hope this helps! You can always try /r/malehairadvice as well! Good luck!

I've sworn by Aveda for Men Grooming Clay for 5 years now. I have thinner hair though. My dad uses it as well and he has full hair, so I imagine it may work well for your needs.

u/perfectdrug659 · 8 pointsr/FancyFollicles

Do you use anything after you've washed your hair? Any sort of leave in treatment? I always use an anti-frizz serum, I've tried many of them over the years, but my favorite is still this Fructis one both for what it does, how it smells and it's cheap. A leave in conditioner would probably benefit you too, as it tends to weigh hair down a bit to prevent it from defying gravity. And if it's static-y at all, just run a dryer sheet over your hair to get rid of the static!

u/resistance527 · 7 pointsr/malehairadvice

Thanks everyone! For the people who asked, the product is Jojoba Crystal Wax I'm still practicing at properly applying it but it'll get there.

u/MrBojangles24 · 7 pointsr/malefashionadvice

You can get fat boy off Amazon that has a good hold that has a matte finish.

Kevin Murphy also has good products that are more expensive but feel very clean in your hair.

What helped me eliminate break outs was using a blow dryer to completely dry my hair then start putting product in the back and working my way to the front. This way product around the forehead will be minimal but still enough to get the hold you want, and the product won’t mix with any extra water and clog your pores.

It's probably the 6 cans of "Its Got2B Glued" Hairspray in the corner. Good grief...Also, kid looks like a young Anthony Kiedis.

What tames that mane better? The gel or the putty?

It's a super cute haircut imo. What I would do is keep it as neat looking as possible for the interview, Think sleek. Chuck some putty/gel in and smooth it or get your stylish girly friend to do your hair for you!

This stuff is great for lots of different hair types just so you know.

Good luck!

I actually use the OGX Moroccan Surf Paste instead of the spray and I find that it has a fairly pleasant smell that goes away after a few hours.

Wash Day: Morrocan Curl Cleansing Conditioner

Or, I Co-Wash with Trader Joe's Nourish Spa Moisture balance conditioner. I also prefer the TJ's shampoo when I need to wash my hair to remove product buildup (which I do once every two weeks).

Post wash I use the LOC method to moisturize.

Leave In - Giovanni Direct Leave-In Weightless Moisture Conditioner

Oil - I use my own mixture I created with Peppermint Oil, Tea tree oil, Black Castor Oil, Almond Oil, Avocado Oil and Olive Oil. My hair really loves it.

Cream - I wear my hair in twist outs, the cream I use for my twist outs is the Cantu Conditioning Curl Cream

I retwist my hair once a week (personal preference).. and I use a bit of Cantu Shea Butter for Natural Hair Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream, but sparingly, as it makes my hair feel slightly crunchy, I only use it in the front for my bangs to curl up very tight when I twist them.

For edge control, I use the Olive Oil Eco Styler gel..

My hair is 4b/4c. Chopped two years ago -now past my shoulders, nearly 16 inches in length. I tried a LOT of products before I found those my hair likes.

Also, I recommend checking out Amazon's Texture's and Hues page. It's for women of color.. and it's AMAZING.

u/kyle_phillips · 6 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Don't wash it every time you shower, for starters. Just get it wet and then dry it normally and you'll keep some of the grime intact. Your hair sounds nearly identical to mine and I have the same problem. I wash it every 3-4 days and it helps. I also use Imperial Matte pomade every other day or so, and definitely after a wash and condition.

u/birthday-party · 5 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

(sorry to interrupt this thread) I have the same feeling, and I haven't used the Marc Anthony product -- but I do have some good product suggestions.

I like using a volumizing mousse and/or a hair powder to give my hair grip and volume without a stitch of extra oiliness. I find that most thickening/styling creams tend to weigh my hair down, which makes my hair look fuller but fall flat later in the day. Root spray will do good things for me, but only in combination with something a little stronger.

I use a mousse nearly every time my hair is wet. If I want more volume or to do something when my hair is still squeaky-clean, I supplement with a powder/spray to give it the texture to hold. They are also good to fluff up your hair if/when it falls.

Favorite mousses:

  • Drybar's Southern Belle mousse: Sort of a strong smell if you're sensitive to that. Volume, but I can run my hands through it. I've been using this every day.

  • Kerastase Resistance Volumactive: Recommended by my hairdresser. The most powerful mousse I've used, with good hold. Doesn't leave your roots particularly soft but is volumizing magic (and is not usually this expensive).

  • Aveda Phomollient - Leaves hair soft and full. This is the most minimal hold of the three.

  • Runners-up: Bumble and bumble Full Form mousse (Works very well, runs out VERY quickly), Big Sexy Hair Root Pump Plus (Effective, but a little crunchy-feeling).

    Hair powder:

  • L'Oreal Professionel True Grip: Love this. My personal favorite. Lasts longer than you'd think, even though it's so small. Doubles as dry shampoo.

  • Schwarzkopf Dust It: Works well for styling/pulling hair up. A little denser than the True Grip.

  • Got2B Powderful: The cheapest, and it's magic. Also made by Schwarzkopf. Holds its own against the other two.

  • Runner-up: Bumble and bumble Pret-a-Powder (pricy, smells good, soft... but just not as good as the others as a texturizer or dry shampoo).

Texturizing spray: This stuff, sprayed at the roots, will fluff up any hair, any time. Works well for volume and for getting styles to hold.

  • HOLY GRAIL PRODUCT ALERT: Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray. Hold up hair, spray at roots, drop hair, roots stay up. Great for fluffing up a ponytail or boosting limp afternoon/next-day hair.

Try r/fancyfollicles for some really good advice. I have wavy hair that I style with large, natural waves. My hair gets incredibly frizzy if I don't use any product and let it dry naturally. Here are a couple things that can work well:

Natural oils can work really well to give your hair shine, keep it conditioned and fight frizz.

Coconut oil - a little goes a long way with coconut oil. Just rub a little on your hands and through your hair after a shower, or after drying your hair. I've used it on beach hair and day 2 hair, and it worked great. When I used it straight out of the shower, I used too much and it really weighed my hair down, so be careful.

Argan oil/Jojoba oil - Same as coconut oil, these can work great for your hair, but be careful not to use too much.

I recently got a sample of Living Proof Frizz styling cream I think in myglam bag. It works nicely. It makes my hair feel incredibly soft and really helps control the frizz. I feel like it takes away a little too much volume for my hair though.

I personally use Garnier Sleek and Shine Frizz Control Serum most days. It controls my frizzy hair enough with out weighing it down or making it greasy. It works well if I style my hair straight, or wavy. It's decently priced. I probably use it more than natural oils mainly because I've been using it so long.

I used Frizz-Ease for a long time, but I realize that my hair had very little body when I used it. It felt heavy and chemically on my hair. I munch prefer natural oils or the Garnier serum that I use.

u/Lokopopz · 4 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Product my friend, product is every man, woman and child's saviour when it comes to hair stylistics!

If you've never used product before, never fear, it's not a tough road to venture down, you just need a bit of patience to texture and style it right.

Thicker hair is better for styling in my opinion, you can do more with it, and it holds better than someone with thin hair.

Molding Clay is a staple classic when it comes to product, it's just slightly on the pricey side, but it's not extortionate, incredibly easy to use, get a little bit on two fingers, mix it in with the rest of your fingers, and then go through your hair pinching and pulling to achieve an effect close to photo #2 from my previous response, or just sweep it to the side following your natural parting for a more classic look (ala photo 3).

It's just a bit of practice that's all.

Also, as other's have mentioned, the festival bands are a bit "eh", obviously they represent great memories to you and you're fine with them their so it's your choice, but a nice timepiece will never go amiss on any man (although don't ask me which one, i don't wear watches.) and since you're comfortable with things on your wrist then it'd be a nice smart transition. You don't have to throw them away either, just put them in a memory box with other trinkets that you can go to to remind you of the good times :]!

Long time lurker here. I enjoy all the success pics.

I decided a while back to stop fighting my curls with gel and short haircuts. It's been going well and get compliments and surprise from friends and family. Those who haven't seen me in a while are totally confused and have asked if I've gotten a perm!!! I guess I have two questions

First: I'd like to go for the Jon Snow look if possible. I've been letting my hair grow and grow and grow. Now it feels like an afro-mullet combo. How should this hair be cut while it's still growing out? I get frustrated with stylists/barber/etc as I want an expert or at least someone with experience to guide me through this instead of asking what I want. "I don't know... that's why I'm asking you..." I don't want my hair ruined by someone guessing or going off of my unqualified instruction.

---

Second: At the end of the day, it gets frizzy/puffy (see the last pic in the album). I've tried not showering and it ends up looking greasy. How do you get smooth curls that aren't greasy or crunch due to gel?

---

Daily Routine:

  1. Warm/hot shower with Shampoo and Conditioner from Costco.
  2. Dry with a cotton t-shirt while hanging my head upside down
  3. I'll apply Shea Curl Enhancing Smooth or Shea Curl & Style Milk

Leave in conditioner is the best for me. I have wavy hair that frizzes the second I run my fingers through it. I can't brush it at all if it's dry.

I use Garnier leave in conditioner. It's usually around 4$ for a smaller bottle. I put that in right after a shower (My doctor told me that it's best to put lotion on right after a shower, so maybe it applies to hair as well?), and comb it through. Next is mousse, I use aussie and finally is this. Lots of product but it has made my hair really healthy and I get complements on it from my hairdressers whenever I go.

I also heard mayonnaise makes good deep conditioner and may help? I haven't tried it though!

*I also use a bit of olive oil sometimes as well. But be sure not to put a ton in.

Check out /r/curlyhair for your daughter. I have found some good pointers in there.

I posted here a few weeks ago looking for Tips for my hair being very dry and causing matted knots on the underside of my hair even after washing my hair day one.

I actually already had the products, but I decided to try it again. I used Shea Moisture Coconut Hibiscus Curling Shampooand SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Conditioner I took the advice and applied the conditioner to the underside of my hair to help get it where it needed it most.

After stepping out of the shower I towel dried my hair and applied Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Style Milk

Plop until I felt like it, slept in a satin cap and bam! My hair is noticeably softer, the curls are a lot curlier not wanting to fall straight like they did before.

I have high prosperity hair, my hair would actually get frizzier and dryer as The days go by, these products have protein which has helped my hair get the moisture that it needs which has reduced the frizz and the drying out. Very happy with the out come, I washed on Friday (this pic is Sunday) and I’m still rocking my hair today Monday, I expect to make it most of this week with out needing to wash. I’m 38 weeks pregnant (tomorrow) this was for my baby shower!

Sun-in is basically very dilute hydrogen peroxide and some conditioning ingredients.^Source It performs the same way bleach peroxides work, just at a much lower concentration. Basically it reacts with the pigment in your hair so that the pigment is oxidized and hair is decolorized but it must soften and damage the proteins in the cuticle and cortex in order for this process to work.^How ^Peroxide ^Lightens ^Hair Any product that lightens your hair will have the same effect. One of the reasons Sun-in can be really damaging is because it doesn't get rinsed out after a specific period of time, unlike a peroxide treatment. If you are going to use it, I would suggest deep conditioning masks before and after application, leaving it on for only the time you're going to be applying heat or sunlight, and babying your hair the same way you would if you were applying peroxide bleach. (IE, no SLS shampoos, wash as little as possible, use a lot of conditioner when washing, and weekly hair masks)

Edit to include sources and rephrase a sentence.

CG method for over a year, but revamped what I do for it a week ago. Before: co-wash with maple holistics argan oil conditioner, scrunch in herbal essences totally twisted curl boosting mousse. Let hair air dry (no plopping). Every other wash using arvvazallia hydrating Argan oil mask.

After: co-wash with Shea moisture coconut & hibiscus curl moisture Co-wash, condition with maple holistics Argan oil conditioner (S2C), scrunch in Shea moisture coconut & hibiscus curl & style milk, scrunch in HANDFULS of L.A natural styling gel. Plop with microfiber towel for 15 min - 1 hour. Let air dry the rest of the way (which takes hours lol) and then scrunch the crunch out. Every other wash I condition with arvazilla hydrating argan oil mask instead of the maple holistics conditioner. Occasionally use neutrogena anti residue shampoo to get extra junk out of my hair. I also bought a silk pillowcase and have been sleeping on that.

Before and after, I wash my hair about once a week. On my before method, my hair would pretty much lose all curl by day 3. Now it holds the curl all week, but starts to feel really gross around day 6. I have some frizz problems, but I usually smooth it down with a very light amount of coconut oil.

So far I love the curls that I am getting through the use of gel! I was scared at first, but this sub is totally right about gel not being what it used to be.

u/be_ruff_ · 2 pointsr/curlyhair

I would recommend to stop brushing. If you really just want to brush, only do so when soaking wet. Apply your cream (and think about adding a gel or something to hold the curl better) to damp but not wet hair and diffuse or air dry and use a pick to help shape and get volume. As for sleep, try a silk pillow case like [this]
(https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0070U9GSU/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) or a hair buff to sleep in like this

ETA: My favorite products for my hair, which is similar to yours are Cantu Curl Activator and [LA Looks Gel] (https://www.amazon.com/LOOKS-SPORT-XTRME-HLD-Pack/dp/B005JT5XLI/ref=sr_1_2_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1518620771&sr=1-2&keywords=la+looks+hair+gel).

u/eeeeebola · 2 pointsr/malehairadvice

Axe doesn't usually have the best styling products. If you're willing to pay a little more for really good quality products then Layrite will last a long time since it doesn't really take a lot for the hold of their products to kick in. I've used their clay in the past before switching to their pomades and it held very well and finished with a matte look.

If it's out of the budget then I recommend an inexpensive wax such as bedhead although the finish won't be as clean as Layrite, it will still have a matte-ish look and you most likely will have to use a blowdryer to get your hair up using the wax due to its low hold. Best of luck to you.

u/ApolloBollo · 2 pointsr/FancyFollicles

You also have the perfect texture for it. The "typical asian hair" that you hate is perfection!! It is straight and you have a lot of it - you won't have to be terrified of getting caught in a rain storm and having your hair rise up off your head! Also, you can pull off the mini-faux hawk! AND if I might recommend my savior during the pixie period? It is Kevin Murphy's "Night Rider" - it is a bit expensive, but you get a lot and the amount you need (literally no more than a nickel sized amount) makes the stuff last FOREVER!!

Seems promising actually, after reading a little bit about it. I don't know if it would help with godrays, but it might be a good cleaner.

u/hmahadik · 2 pointsr/malehairadvice

It's a water-based wax called Jojoba Wax.

u/PedroElOzo · 2 pointsr/malehairadvice

Well first off you may have split ends from the looks of it. Being rough with your hair won't get you this silky smooth stuff.

You should possibly get a trim to get them out (split ends) if you have them.

After that you could use some Garnier Fructis to try and get it smooth like it does if you don't wash it for a few day.

As for the curling iron or straightener since you'll be using product to get the sheen of the picture you showed where you want to be I'm not sure you'd use anything BUT conditioners and serums/mousses.

want crazy strong hair spray?

Freeze spray

The brand is what I use for styling wigs. You want 8 in spikes, this is your product.

If you really have that much trouble with your hair, why not cut it super short then it just needs a brush and a bit of product to keep it from being frizzy?

Hair sewing is for buns and some braids to help hold them in place.

u/silkywishes · 2 pointsr/cosplay

Hey, I've actually styled a wig for her before!! Here's what we did for the ponytail and what I would suggest:

My friend (who was cosplaying Asahina), ordered a wig specifically made for the character. Just look up "Aoi Asahina wig" and you should find some great options! Look for one with a chin-length base wig that comes with a clip.

Now here's what you do to style it!! Take the back of the base wig (the part that won't become the bangs) and get as much of it into the highest ponytail you can manage. Some of it will probably stick out, but that's okay! Pin down any stray bits with bobby pins (the brown ones should be about the same shade as her hair, so you won't have to worry about them showing) and spritz them with some hairspray.

Now take the clip and attach it securely to the ponytail you've made. From there mold the ponytails into one using hairspray. I suggest using a blow dryer with the hairspray, so you can get the hair in the position you want and then dry it with the blow dryer on a low setting. I'd also suggest getting a really heavy-duty hairspray for this - Got2B's freeze spray is fantastic for wig styling, in my experience.

The bangs should be much simpler - just pin them into place and spray the upper part. The wig should be just the right length for the dangly parts in front of her ears, so you shouldn't have to do much to those. You could spray the ends of them so they're spikes, but it's not totally necessary.

I hope all of this helped!!

Depends how light you want to go. If you want Billy Idol platinum, then yes you should use a pro because you need strong bleaching products. If you just want to go a couple shades lighter then there are gentle products like this readily available. Yes it will dry your hair a bit, but you wear it short so who cares? It will grow out fast enough. Just don't squirt it in your eyes and you'll be fine.

I don't! I find that sea salt dries out my hair too much and I've never found one that didn't just make my hair feel greasy. I prefer texture sprays like the Oribe Dry Spray, Bumble & Bumble Dryspun or the drugstore dupe from Garnier Fructis! Once my hair is completely dry, I'll spray all over and kind of scrunch my roots a bit to add volume.

It's a bit spendy, but Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray is PHENOMENAL. It's like dry shampoo on steroids. It does exactly what it says - gives your hair that dry, textured, roughed-up, lived-in look. A little goes a long way - start with a few small spritzes throughout your hair as you lift and separate, then rough it up with your hands (really work it in). You can then smooth out the top layer if there's too much magic happening. This is used on dry hair.

On the other end of the spectrum, my go-to dry shampoo is a really cheap one (and I've tried a TON). Tresemme Volumizing Dry Shampoo. I've had no issues with white residue and I use it day after day with great results.

u/Barkas · 2 pointsr/malehairadvice

I use http://www.amazon.com/LOreal-Professionnel-Sculpte-Sculpting-Unisex/dp/B002PLO7KG and for me its one of the best I have ever tried and I have tried a lot. you can check my post http://www.reddit.com/r/malehairadvice/comments/1ar9k2/listened_to_your_advice_went_very_short_on_sides/ how it looks with it, I dint use much of it.

Also I bought a tub of Toni&guy fibre it is quite good, have been using for few days.

Also some people recommend american crew fibre, never tried it myself atleast in europe it isnt very popular imo, but on forums online some people love it, might just be some clever advertising. But different products suit different people so you might need to try a couple until you find one you like

After I take a shower I towell dry until my hair is damp, spritz the salt spray on my hair, blow dry to get the desired shape, and then style it with a paste.

u/caramelbrownguy · 2 pointsr/malehairadvice

I think your haircut is fine. For thin hair, what's more important is actually the products that you use. Essentially, go for products that work well on thin hair. I recommend Imperial Pomade Paste because the level of shine and hold makes your hair appear fuller.

There are also other products that are good for the hair, like a sea salt spray and others which I wrote in a post here

Hope it helps!

u/quiquedont · 2 pointsr/malehairadvice

Because of how loose your curls are, I would use some product to keep it more contain. This is a product I use that works well for many black people. A high fade while keeping the top kind of natural since your hair has a lot of character to it would work imo. Kind of like this but not as low on the top.

u/bake-kujira · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Thanks, dude! Imperial Matte Pomade + blowdryer + a little hairspray on the edges and back corner to keep em from falling down.

Well, I'm a guy with short hair, but my hair will stay in place all day even with wind and I use This Grooming Clay and Crew Fiber

When I had long hair, I used BTZ Matte Clay , put a little on my finer tips and just went to town on my hair.

u/From_Wentz_He_Came · 1 pointr/AskMenOver30

As others have said, don't wash it every day. I literally only wash my hair when I think it smells (always nice to have my SO do the smell test for me.) I regularly go a couple of weeks between washings, and it almost never smells bad. I use conditioner every other day.

I have pretty thick wavy hair, so I don't know if the product I use will work for you, but one thing you could try are a salt spray which will give you just a little extra shine and hold.

If that's not enough, I use is Baxter's grooming cream. It's another that just gives enough of a hold to keep everything in place without making my hair hard or stiff. Plus it smells good.

Those are both pretty cheap products, but if neither work, you're going to have to experiment to find what works for you. Try asking your barber if they have any samples. Or you can buy a sampler from amazon.

I only shampoo/condition once a week, other days I just scrub my scalp in the shower. I use Nizoral for shampoo to keep dandruff away, and Tresemme silicone-free conditioner.

I don't really dry my hair, I just wrap it in a hair towel.

And I use Tigi Curls Rock every day after I shower. It is the best product I have tried for frizz, and I've tried a LOT. You don't need a lot, so it's totally worth the price even if you're used to just buying drugstore products.

u/Domino80 · 1 pointr/malehairadvice

I would try and stay away from hairspray. There are way better products to use to keep your hair in place.

I just purchased Kevin Murphy Matte Texture Paste. I rub some in my hand to get it warm and then work it into the roots of my hair only. Helps build some volume.

u/TrailerParkTonyStark · 1 pointr/malehairadvice

Not sure about the cut, but as far as product goes, maybe try using some clay (matte finish) to achieve this kind of high hold.

I like this stuff, myself...
Lay Rite Cement Clay

u/benuntu · 1 pointr/LifeProTips

Plexus

It's actually a plastic polish/wax, and it works really well. I used to work at a motorcycle shop and vendors from time to time would put stickers on parts that didn't come off all the way. Just spray it on thick, and gently work it in with your fingers. Once the paper and glue has dissolved, wipe off with a clean cloth towel.

This stuff also works to fix scratched CD's, polish and protect sunglasses, and other plastic products. Years after I quit working at the MC shop, I still keep a can around.

Guess I'm not the only one who figured this out!

u/MrHeuristic · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I use this stuff. It's super cheap, better hold for my thick hair than Fiber, and it lasts longer throughout the day.

u/newtruckfund · 1 pointr/malehairadvice

American Crew Molding Clay

Has a strong hold that will stay while out in the summer heat.

u/cmmoyer · 1 pointr/malehairadvice

For long hair, it looks surprisingly good. Try taking the little bit on the left side of your part and pull it over to the right so your forehead isn't entirely bare. I'd also try pulling it all back. Your hair looks fairly light though so you may need a bit of oil to weigh it down and keep it from popping up. You can leave your sides in front or behind your ears, whatever you think looks best.

Here's a product I typically use after washing my hair to replace some of the lost oil and give it a nice shine.

Thank you for the contest! Something that made me happy recently was my friends taking off work/moving around their schedules to go to the beach with me on my birthday yesterday! I work a lot (ugh retail life) and I haven't been out too much this summer yet, and I finally got a little tan!!

Going along with the beach/happiness theme, this salt spray has been something I've wanted to try to recreate beach hair :D

Has anyone tried their Molding Clay? Any idea how they compare?

u/sassercake · 1 pointr/curlyhair

Sounds like we have similar hair. If I put too much product in, it goes flat. If I comb it, there goes the curl. I would recommend shampooing every other day, and then the off day doing a co-wash with a light conditioner. Gel and drying with a diffuser works wonders for me, as well.

Here's my routine/product list

  • Shampoo with Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle shampoo (every other day)
  • Condition with Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle conditioner. Sometimes I use a heavier conditioner with protein if my hair feels dry.
  • In the shower, comb hair with fingers to get out tangles.
  • While hair is still dripping wet, scrunch in gel. I use Tresemme Tres Gel. Then scrunch in heat protectant. I use this. Tresemme also has a good spray, but I prefer the oil.
  • Scrunch with a T-shirt.
  • Dry in sections with a diffuser. I don't dry upside down, just tilt my head to the side. When I'm done drying a section, I use Tresemme Tres Two non-aerosol spray.
  • Scrunch again if needed, but it's usually not.

I also sometimes use Garnier Fructis Anti Frizz Serum when it's especially humid out, or my hair seems dry in the middle of the day.

    Hope this helps!
u/gagaboy · 1 pointr/india

I first discovered them at hair salons. I prefer hair mousse and didnt like hair wax as it was a bit sticky, but it did give a solid hold.

Refer to this channel on how to use them.
https://www.youtube.com/user/joeisblu

This is the hair wax i was referring too http://www.amazon.in/LOreal-Professionnel-Sculpte-Sculpting-Unisex/dp/B002PLO7KG?tag=googinhydr18418-21&tag=googinkenshoo-21&ascsubtag=ac98f23d-ebeb-4baa-962c-09de991e8fcc ...

There is also some better products like hairmousse or loreal powerball or something if you need tons of volume, like the guy in the youtube channel.

Best advice is go to a good hair salon (looks or gitanjali if ur in delhi) and asks them what to use, how to use. Gitanjali is better than looks, personal opinion coz they dont try to "force sell" products to you and actually took the time to explain to me the different products available and what's the diff btw them

Thanks! I will definitely look into that. I don't like to wash with shampoo + conditioner everyday as I think it's overkill, but I also put product in my hair and shower daily, and would like for it to wash out with just water. I currently use this product my Monplatin that I'm not thrilled with BUT it does wash out incredibly well with just water (https://www.amazon.ca/Mon-Platin-Jojoba-Crystal-Styling/dp/B0057MYORQ/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=jojoba+wax&qid=1569009589&s=gateway&sr=8-1).

I also tried Layrite Clay that CLAIMS to it is water soluble, but I can assure you it is not (https://www.amazon.ca/Layrite-Oz-Cement-Matte-Clay/dp/B00UM4ZDCY/ref=sxts_sxwds-bia-wc1_0?crid=1YA0G4G7QLKA7&keywords=layrite+clay&pd_rd_i=B00UM4ZDCY&pd_rd_r=ea9b930b-3204-4502-83f8-0d383c35ba56&pd_rd_w=xYicO&pd_rd_wg=tQkum&pf_rd_p=6f08ffff-e1f6-48e9-b30d-611996cc9b3c&pf_rd_r=5V4QV22CWRQDA9FCZ6CF&psc=1&qid=1569009656&s=gateway&sprefix=Layrite+clay%2Caps%2C158).

I'll definitely look into this!

I really like TIGI Curls Rock Amplifier, however you might find that it isn't strong enough to hold the curls / waves, seeing as you have thick hair.

You could try a sea salt spray like Paul Mitchell's one. It works very well, but your hair will feel a little 'dirty'.

The biggest thing to encourage waves at the front / sides of your hair is to dry your hair using a diffuser.

u/Wawo96 · 1 pointr/curlyhair

This is the routine I discovered 2 showers ago so it might still change(WILL UPDATE):

I take care of my hair first thing when I get into the shower.

shampoo once every 10 or 20 days.

condition everytime I shower (2-3 times a week), I put in about two "squeezes" and leave it for 10 minutes then rinse like 20-30% out

while still in the shower and with dripping when hair, apply a lot of gel.

When I get out I wrap my hair in a tshirt and leave it in for 30-40 minutes, mooving the shirt about to make sure the top of my head always have the dry parts of the shirt.

After this I apply the smallest amount of another gel and 4 drops of oil (don't know the brand, it's from the supermarket.

If I have no time I blow dry using diffuser.

I will try to let it air-dry and see the difference.

I'M SO HAPPY FINALLY I FOUND SOMETHING THAT WORKS!!

I don't think you are anywhere near the buzzing stage yet. However, I do think you could experiment with a shorter hairstyle with more layers on top and a bit tighter on the sides. I don't have any insight of course into your genetics and where your hair will be in in 1, 5, 10 years but I recommend the following:

  • ditch the volumizing spray and shampoos and regimens. I think this has minimum effect on your hair and can add to being overly focused on the issue (if in fact you do have MPB)

  • get your haircut with a bit of messy texture on top in a style like this. This will be easy to maintain and the haircut itself does the volumizing for you.

  • if you do put product in your hair, use (just a little of) a matte molding paste like this or this

Good luck, man. Your case honestly doesn't seem that bad but I understand of course that these things are all personal and subjective with ourselves.

u/Spam4119 · 1 pointr/malehairadvice

I am still new to this... but I have been having some good luck with [Night Rider] (http://www.amazon.com/Kevin-Murphy-Night-Rider-Texture/dp/B003PDI2QI).

Put it in when your hair is still really wet from a shower... I find that I usually need to get my fingers wet and wet my hair even more after I have started adding it in. Again, still new and only use a little amount (it seems to go a long way), but I think it leads to good things.

u/The_Shield1212 · 1 pointr/malehairadvice

This is the only product that ever worked for me I absolutely refuse to use anything else, smells great too.

u/zackry00 · 1 pointr/malehairadvice

I've tried all three of these. I'd say, if I had to choose, I like Claymation the best, but it's certainly not my favorite matte hair product.

Original was way to sticky when applying it and got really tacky when I ran it through my hair. Quicksand was a bit too dry to apply , but did have good hold. Claymation seemed to apply better, but the hold wasn't what I wanted.

So as a followup, I have two products the I lean towards. The Kevin Murphy - Night Rider, which has great hold, but when you emulsify it in your hands it seems to get a bit clumpy. And my absolute favorite is the Mister Pompadour Beeswax Paste which spreads really well and has great hold for my style, which is typically a looser style.

u/Nintenzo · 1 pointr/malegrooming

I use Admiral Pomade. It's seriously good stuff. Great hold, and it smells absolutely incredible. It has this very pleasant coconut peach scent. Whenever I smell it my mind is transported to the beach.

It's a bit more expensive than American Crew but you also get an ounce more than Crew.

This stuff is perfect, the only con I have with it is that the jar looks like it's glass in the pictures but unfortunately it's plastic. :(

u/marreggy · 1 pointr/teenagers

The one I use is like a low to medium shine, The American crew Fiber is a lower shine but still high hold, the American crew Molding Clay is a medium shine and high hold, and the American crew Grooming Cream is high shine, high hold. I personally would suggest something with low or medium shine because with the look you seem to be going for something with a bit less shine, but more hold will probably be your best option.

u/justagaygirl1678 · 1 pointr/butchlesbians

I have really thick, straight hair (Asian hair). I use Layrite cement clay.

It gives excellent hold with a matte finish while still leaving the hair pliable to restyle if you want. It smells great too.

I work a small bit of mousse through wet hair. Blow dry my hair into the style I want. Take a small bit of the hair cement and rub it between my hands then work it through my hair.

u/goofball_ · 1 pointr/FrugalMaleFashionCDN

Mon Platin Jojoba Crystal Wax

u/VietyTran · 1 pointr/malehairadvice

I've had luck with this product. It's a matte pomade and you can run your fingers through it. Another perk is that it smells great. You can prolly find it cheaper else where online, but I use Amazon for the quick two day shipping.

u/aCOWtant · 1 pointr/malehairadvice

An undercut faded to a two on the sides below the ear-line all around, leave the front long and the top ~3 inches. Squared up neckline, & clean up the beard so that it's about half an inch all-around.

But if you show them the picture for 10 seconds, they'll cut you up right. Explaining the front-treatment without a photo could be difficult. Don't go to a shitty barbershop, I always tell people it's like a t-shirt you have to wear for 4-6 weeks. Yelp is your friend.

How to keep the look up: condition more and shampoo less (I shampoo once a week) to keep some of the grease in. I use this stuff. Let your hair dry for 15-20 mins after a shower, but comb-over while wet, then spread a tiny bit of the puddy thinly across your digits, run them under a lil water, and boom: natural-messy style that holds.

Source: Have had similar hairstyle for about a year now... I taper the back, don't go as tight on the sides, and have a better beard ;-)

u/Rhythmist · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I am not sure if I have Asian hair or not. I think I do though. It's really fucking straight and it's really thick. It just sticks up. I've been using Kevin Murphy's Night Rider for the last few years and am pretty damn happy with it. I would recommend it

u/volksmadchen · 1 pointr/blogsnark

Can you scrunch it and make it wavy/curly?? I do that when I air dry and it looks pretty decent. I use: https://www.amazon.com/TIGI-Catwalk-Curls-Rock-Amplifier/dp/B0007506U2/ref=zg_bs_11057901_1?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=WDK5ED4PSE13MM70MCT2&th=1 when it's wet, scrunch it up, twirl some of it together for bigger curls and let it go. I also have this for days I dry it and wear it straight: https://www.amazon.com/Revlon-Salon-One-Step-Dryer-Volumizer/dp/B01LSUQSB0 and it cuts the blow drying/straightening time in half cause it's doing both at the same time.
Sorry for the long links.

well you could try this stuff, I occasionally use it in the winter when I haven't been getting as much sun. But if you use it often, It gives you a gradually lighter hair color and it looks really natural. If you have sandy hair this might be the push you want without actually dying your hair, although I have a few friends with sandy hair and I love it.

u/dontcaretoshare · 1 pointr/Hair

from someone who just learned how to style my own frizzy/curly hair:

Start by getting a trim - I would take at least an inch off the bottom and get regular trims (every 2 months or so) for the next year to grow out healthy hair. Be gentle when you shampoo, use your nails to scratch around your head, but be gentle with the actual long hair. When you condition, only condition from about your ears down or your hair will get oily quickly. Wash every 2 or 3 days unless it's really dirty. After you get out of the shower, PAT dry; do not rub the towel all over. Then, comb it out with a wide tooth comb and use a styling product to kind of keep your hair together. If you need to, make some curls with your fingers to keep the hair together. Following these really easy steps has allowed me to actually leave my hair down and not look like a frizz ball.

My current routine: I just switched to Herbal Essences Naked Shine shampoo about a month ago. Smells great and hair is definitely shiny! I condition with One N Only Argan Oil Conditioner I found at ulta. For a wide tooth comb, I went fancy and got one of these. After I comb, then I use about a nickel sized squirt of this leave in conditioner/style cream - for this one use just enough or you will look greasy and only use it from the ears down and scrunch your hair together. Good luck!!

One more thing: It's kind of an initial outlay of a little cash, but everything lasts me for months except the shampoo. I've had the conditioner since last year and it's still a little less than half way empty. The curl cream - same deal. I've had it since mid last year. The trick is to use sparingly. Shampoo lasts a while too since I only wash my hair twice a week. The wood comb - I LOVE it; it's really gentle but still detangles.

I'm always surprised by how many people don't cover their necks fully. No exposed skin allowed. This includes over the back of the neck.

I've seen suggestions for Rain-X. I haven't used it myself, but I have heard that it can create a permanent haze in plastic, and the manufacturer does not recommend it. So I'd avoid that.

I use Plexus. I'll give my visor a quick spray before I ride any time I expect rain, and I carry it with me all the time. It helps water bead up and roll right off. You can also clean everything else on your bike with it.

Don't forget to lube your chain often. A little rust isn't bad, but take time to scrape it clean every couple weeks.

And personally, I'd invest in a pair of "driving lights". I just bought the branded OEM lights for my bike, which seemed good enough, but maybe some other folks who have done some research can chime in. They don't particularly help you see, but they really help you be seen. And sometimes, that's more important than the the rest of your safety gear combined. In fog or rain or snow or darkness - take a hint from boats.

u/PasgettiMonster · 1 pointr/femalehairadvice

I dug through my photos and found some before/after for you of my hair. They're not of the same day, in fact they're more than a year apart, but it's what I had.

http://imgur.com/bBrcLd8

On the right, my hair after letting it air dry with no product in it. It's very possible I slept with slightly damp hair and that's what I woke up with. The photo from the left is fairly recent, so I still remember that day - I was in a hurry and did my hair in under 10 minutes - brushed it out starting at the nape and working my way up to the crown with the brush bristles facing outwards and touched up the front/part area with the flat iron. Only product in my hair is a little bit of argan thermal shield that I work through my it before brushing. (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016V5H6MM/)

If you read the reviews of the brushes, you'll see they're all over the place. And yes, many of them are compensated reviews - that's how I got mine so I was extremely skeptical on how well it would work. After a couple of tries to get the technique down, I was a believer. I know several people who have these brushes - they're sold under several different brand names. I'd suggest keeping away from the Art Naturals branded one - I know 2 people that had problems with theirs even though they appear to be identical to some of the others that were fine. I'd suggest looking through the photos people have posted with their reviews and seeing if you can find someone who posted before pics of hair that looks similar to yours to see what their experience was like.

If you insist on keeping the hair (bad idea IMO, I think you would look great with short hair) then at least use a hair serum on it. This is a really good one, a little expensive, but it's great. This one is not quite as good, but it's a little cheaper. Another thing you could do to help is use a shampoo for body, or a mousse for body. These products will help your hair look healthier and fuller.
