Depends where you commute from. I have been able to get an employee pass at every airport I’ve commuted from when I was a commuter.

If you’re in an extended stay hotel, you’ll have a kitchenette, otherwise plan to eat out or keep non-perishable food around.

I’ve never had to pay state tax other than my state of residence.

I use this: AmazonBasics Rolling Laptop Case https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VIM9VQ8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_e89-Bb2SGAADN

For suitcase, grab a Luggageworks Stealtg series suitcase. Expensive, but it’ll last for many years. I’m 11 years and 4 airlines in on mine, still going strong.

The briefcases are Solo Grand Central Attaché Cases.
On the outside each one got an Engraved Plaque with the groomsman's name and nickname.
The axe is a Columbia River CRKT Birler Compact Axe.
The liqueur is a small bottle of JW Black Label 200ml.
The little silver oval is a collapsible shot glass.
Vintage Bicycle Cards.
The inside is cut EVA foam stacked three high, carved to hold the items, glued together, covered in red velvet cloth from Hobby Lobby, adhered with Gorilla spray adhesive.
The straps are leather bracelets (also from Hobby Lobby) dyed black using Fiebing's Leather Dye, with a bronze topper (brads?) to cover the screw anchoring them in place.
I don't have a good shot of the inside top, but there is a cigar (I forget which brand, I'm not really a cigar guy). They were rectangular. You can see it at the top of the third shot.
Also a silver pen, a cigar cutter, a small survival tool, a credit card knife, and an Oz-Kurt engraved flip knife.
I also wrapped the axe handle in a Leather strapping to give it some extra texture.

Whelp, I THINK that's everything. Thanks for taking interest in my post!

EDIT: I realize not all these external water bottle holders, but thought they were worth keeping as budget recommendations. If the water bottle holder is a non-negotiable, id personally gonwith the Daylite Plus as I have the Daylite (non-plus model) and love it.

Also, a bonus recommendation: Timbuk2 Rogue, Carbon/Fire, One Size https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0136N9Z2Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_cwyjDbAFW5Q12

I actually love the water bottle holder on this. It’s quite a compact bag, but can fit a ton when needed.

I do support for small software company. I work 100% remote/from home. Twice a year I need to Fly to company events and bring almost my whole setup. While I'm at those events I have to take care of any in-house support as well as keep the regular support cases handled.

It's a good bag for me. I've been able to pack my stuff and my travel stuff (clothes/ect) in it for theses events (usually 3-4 days travel)

I ordered http://www.amazon.com/Navali-Helmsman-Canvas-Leather-Computer/dp/B005MS6YDC/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1418942371&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=navali+helmsmen from amazon a while back. I used the bag maybe 3 times, and the zipper busted on me. The zipper functions like this now: http://www.laupre.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/MIbrokenzip.jpg. I submitted a customer service ticket via http://www.navali.com/contacts, and never got a response.
Order# 107-3553425-0888220, bought the bag around in May. Used it three times to hold my laptop, charger, 3DS, and kindle. The zipper blew out on me a little before Thanksgiving, which is when I submitted the contact ticket.

Bad experience with product. Bad experience with customer service.
The bag did look nice while it worked though.

EDIT:
Went to the site again and this time a Live Chat box popped up with a customer service rep to speak with. I relayed the above information to him and he said "Nick
Oh no I'm so sorry to hear that! We'll gladly repair or replace it for you at no charge!
could you just send an email to [email protected] with the info you just submitted to me? that way our returns team can dea with it first thing in the morning!"

Wondering why I wasn't responded to previously, but this is an improvement!

I'd say what work bag to carry depends on your job and sense of style. Clothing "Casualization" and the need to keep electronic devices on hand have made backpacks more acceptable in office settings, and sometimes they can be more preferable than the expected briefcase. So unless your office's culture is very conservative (or your backpack is very loud), backpacks should be fine.

If you're still looking to move on from backpacks, I would recommend (Solo Hybrid Briefcase)[https://www.amazon.com/Laptop-Hybrid-Briefcase-Converts-Backpack/dp/B00JGHVJE4]; I carry mine briefcase-style when I'm in the office and then convert it into a backpack to better navigate moving through the city/rushing for the train.

u/Oax_Mike · 4 pointsr/travel

Fuckin' sweet...the hipsters are going to start traveling with a briefcase now.

It will be called Briefcasing.

My awesome boyfriend hooked me up with this rolling briefcase for Christmas. I've used it a few times so far, and I love it. It's very roomy. I can easily fit my lap top, iPad, several books, notebooks, pens, and personal items in it. I wanted something that rolls as years of carrying a heavy backpack really messed up my shoulders/neck

So I found these regular laptop bags and the front pockets on them are fairly thick/padded so I don't think anyone would notice if you put your pistol in there. Especially if you put it in a remora holster. My only concern would be the gun/holster sliding around inside that little pocket, but that's nothing a little velcro tape can't fix and that's like $3 at walmart.

Hope this helps.

u/penny_dreadful_mess · 3 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

oops, sorry! This is what I get for clicking off articles and forgetting they have referral links. See below for edited.

So my first thought was the knomo Grosvenor Square but at $180 it's more than a little out of your budget. However, I would look at knomo and baggallini on eBay if you don't mind used. If I remember correctly, baggallini was designed by flight attendants so they are super travel friendly and there is a great selection of them on eBay.

*I know that knomo one is olive and still $60 but I've seen black ones for about 40 before, you just have to watch.

EDIT: I found some more options, though I'm not as sure of the quality.

u/crimsontongue · 3 pointsr/backpacks

Just get specific hard cases for your valuables (e.g. random Pelican hard case or these rugged cases) and use your current backpack. Hold your bag in front of you or stick your leg through the strap when sitting down if you're worried about theft. Pacsafe also makes bags with serious anti-theft.

I've been looking at this as a possible leather bag as well. I think this is the same or almost the same model at amazon for a lot cheaper and good reviews:

u/ReadyAndChilling · 2 pointsr/Alienware

I really doubt it, dimensions are too small. I'm using this case for my new 17r4. It's a big heavy laptop, and pretty much fills the main compartment. It feels like I'm carrying a suit case around with me, but it feels protected.

Alternatively, the timbuk2 messenger bags looked interesting, but not sure it they'd fit either...

u/Ghostleviathan · 2 pointsr/apple

I had this one at first:http://www.amazon.com/Incase-Sleeve-Deluxe-MacBook-Retina/dp/B00B2WS9R6/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1419784969&sr=8-12&keywords=macbook+bag+incase

it was nice because of the faux fur part in the bag but it lacked storage for accessories and other things.

but i switched to this leather one:http://www.amazon.com/Kenneth-Cole-Reaction-Luggage-Business/dp/B000UN46KW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1419784688&sr=8-1&keywords=leather+laptop+bag

and it was one of the best upgrades i've done. i love the bag as it has lots of storage and seems to have been built for macs in terms of the compartments in the inside. it perfectly fist the charger and a normal external drive. it also has a place that fits an ipad very nicely as well. this bag can also be used as like a day bag or an overnight bag.

u/Jayman_879 · 2 pointsr/ABDL

This one is actually my daily cary bag, I have yet to use it as a diaper bag, but it seems like it would be very good at filling that role. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JGHVJE4/

u/sd0a · 2 pointsr/sysadmin

Amateur Photographer and Full-Time Sysadmin here. I agree with this. Up until several months ago I was carrying around my laptop in my camera gear bag. I recently just switched over to a messenger style bag only because my camera bag was getting cumbersome (added too much gear) to carry around everywhere.

I now carry one of these and I love it.

u/vexion · 2 pointsr/LawSchool

A nice leather messenger bag, if he would use that sort of thing. Or a fine scotch.

Do you have the screen already picked out? Post the model number and we'll be able to tell you if it needs a controller or not.

As for forming the case, /r/DIY might be better, but some options to consider are:

1: Plywood / MDF. Super cheap from your local home improvement center. Don't need a lot of specialized skills to use it (ever built a birdfeeder at camp / high school shop?). You can also cover MDF in automotive bondo to get a really smooth surface.

2: Plastic: You can get plastic sheets from hardware stores and places like TAP Plastics. TAP can even cut and do some minor bending if you come in and ask for what you need.

3: Metal: You'll need some more specialized tools, but you might be able to cut, bend and rivet up some small sheet metal.

4: (Best option?) Go buy a briefcase and stuff the guts in that. (e.g. http://www.amazon.com/Premium-Leather-like-Attach%C3%A9-Hard-sided-Combination/dp/B00061NLCW/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1451424965&sr=8-7&keywords=briefcase)

I've had this for years and absolutely love it. Different compartments for work and for laptop, plenty of room for papers, and it looks more professional than a backpack.

u/Snarfler · 2 pointsr/todayilearned

actually it takes up less space than you think.

Hundred Dollar Bill :

  • 2.61 inches 6.14 inches .0043 inches src

  • weight = 1 gram

That means stacked up it will be 43 inches tall, or about 3 and a half feet and weight 22.04 pounds.

    This briefcase has the dimensions:

  • 12.5"H x 17.5"L x 4"W

Which means we can stack ~930 bills in height. And that we can have 2 rows of 6 in the briefcase. meaning it can hold 11,160 bills, or $1,160,000

yes they don't last long but the very worst case scenario you will be a poor college student for 3 more years. usually what happens is you get a nice paid summer internship the summer after sophomore year then work part time during the year at said place making $18-$30/hr.

u/decentgifs · 2 pointsr/bikecommuting

i'm a spaz off the bike too, so i keep my laptop in a pelican 1085 case. i used to carry it in a grocery-style pannier, but it fits my new ortliebs too. i can also throw it into my rucksack and bang it into doorways without worry.

u/legacydeviant · 2 pointsr/SissificationAcademy

An old-briefcase will have a lock built-in. I use something similar to this. I just tell everyone it was a sentimental gift from a relative or friend. This especially works if you find an old briefcase at a garage sale or something.

Or you could buy a laptop bag and a luggage lock.

I think you're going to be hard pressed to find an actual suitcase that has a built-in lock that it not pretty expensive. Luggage locks usually do the trick anyway.

If you want to be even more clandestine, look up "diversion safes" on Amazon. They are typically not very big, but they can blend in with other things you may have already.

On a personal note: Geez, whatever happened to hiding things under a mattress like when I was a kid.

u/mouschi · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I've been trying my hardest to replace my old Navali bag that has held up like a champ but needs to be retired. I'm still looking for the mix of style and utility (i.e. ability to fit stuff) that it had. I'm about to settle on a Filson but open to other ideas if anyone has any.

u/coryxrx · 1 pointr/Alienware

I also forgot to mention I would definitely get a bag of some sort if you plan on moving it around. I ordered the Alienware Vindicator backpack but its severely backordered and I won't be getting it for a while. I got this bag as a temporary solution but it does fit the laptop perfectly. By the way, it is very heavy compared to many other laptops.

It’s a Pelican 1085 case that goes for about $60. You cut the foam yourself, I’d recommend using a brand new razor blade.

I've had this bag in dark brown leather (black is linked) for 6 years now of every-weekday usage, and I'd estimate it will last at least another 6 years from now if not much longer. It easily fits a laptop, accessories, and maybe a few thin books (i.e. not textbooks) inside. You could probably fit more, but it might look funny. The leather is not full grain and is going to distress a bit, but at least on brown I think it looks good that way. Even though it's not full grain (how could it be for that price?), it's of pretty high quality and doesn't seem to be wearing in a way that would damage it permanently. The zippers and buckles seem pretty solid; I've had no issues there. The only downside I've discovered is that the D rings holding the strap on allow things to "jingle" a bit when you walk. It's not really bad, but if you're in a really quiet place it could stand out. I think I read reviews about that when I bought it, and people mentioned wrapping some of the metal with some kind of tape or cloth to make it stop.

Overall it's a pretty solid bag and if that's the price range you're considering I totally recommend it. PM me if you want pictures of 6-year bag - can't upload at work but can get it for you later.

u/CyberJeeves · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Well, in terms of a laptop bag, this option from Case Logic would work as it has 18" of space.

As for the G751JT-CH71, it's essentially the same laptop without the SSD. However, I think you'd benefit from getting an SSD because you'll definitely notice the increase in speed. However, you can simply upgrade the laptop yourself with an SSD like the Samsung 840 EVO and get more space. If you're comfortable doing that (which should be pretty easy in this machine), then I think that's the best way forward.

I use the Solo Duane with my iPad Pro 11” in a Smart Keyboard Cover in the tablet slot adjacent the laptop compartment. I will say, it juuuuuust fits (very snug), but if you have any thinner cases it slides in no problem (and there’s a velcro strap to secure it from sliding out). I got this bag partly because it was on sale for $35 (normally $55) and partly because it’s a backpack-messenger hybrid which allows you to decide if you prefer to carry it as a messenger, backpack, or briefcase. Lots of compartments with thoughtful design (the small compartment zippers 2 sides so you can access it whether the bag’s on its side or standing). They’re pricey, but if you’re going to the gym maybe you’ll want a pelican case?

I'm on a similar hunt and there's a pretty good selection of Kenneth Cole bags on Amazon. Here's the one I think I'll go with.

Why don't you just carry a light briefcase? There's a reason lawyers always have briefcases. It holds all our stuff and we don't have to transfer it from pocket to pocket all the time or really even think about it. Plus our suits don't have great pockets. You could probably do fine with something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Briefcase-Organizer-Expandable-Resisatant-Briefcases/dp/B06XJPQV74/ref=sr_1_4?crid=HEO85ZQZSDK9&keywords=computer+bags+for+men&qid=1555016116&s=gateway&sprefix=computer+b%2Caps%2C216&sr=8-4

Of course there are much more expensive briefcases but I doubt you really need one. Also you probably need a briefcase you can put in a locker. So a decent computer bag will do just fine. It will also look just fine.

Once you get used to having a briefcase you will never go back. Everything you need is right there and all the time. There's a lot more than files in our briefcases. There are an extra pair of nylons, (insert hate here for the entire system that requires us to wear such fragile stockings), tampons and Tylenol and whatever else you might suddenly need.

I really can't think of a jacket that would look good in July over scrubs. Let alone feel good. Consider a light briefcase instead. Which in this instance would probably be marketed as a computer bag.
