I had to have a fasciotomy due to compartmental swelling to save my leg. So I don't know how many sutures you have.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H11D796 (not until a week after suture removal.) Otherwise I kept pressure with a long long ace bandage securely wrapped.

Best of luck man, it's a long road but we will get there.

How'd it happen?

edit: also it may be bs but I bought supplements for bone regeneration and take these everyday https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008HFUIAM

Just buy some slightly baggy clothing and rub some charcoal and dirt here and there grab a un clean bit of cardboard and a marker. Don't wear nice shoes and pick a busy corner or off ramp. If you want to kill it wear cheap sun glass and have a cane or have the word VET on the sign.

I've got a folding cane that I use for balance issues, but I've brought it out a few times when I just needed a seat because of chronic pain, too. It feels douchey but is way less obnoxious (for both me and everyone around me) than having to give a whole spiel about needing a seat.

u/verascity · 9 pointsr/disability

LOL, it actually is great for times like that. It's probably a little cumbersome for daily use and there's a bit of a learning curve for maneuvering without kicking it over (which I still do TBH) but it's so much better than trying to get through an event without an assist.

This is the one I use and it serves me pretty well!

Most of my post-op gripes are around swelling of the leg / knee in general. Get something to prop up the foot of your bed (not just your leg, do that as well). I used wood / suitcase to prop up my bed and still put my leg up on pillows.

Random equipment based recommendations for post-op.

I have a bad hip, so this is always an issue for me too. Sometimes the cost-benefit of having a seat with you vs the weight of carrying it along with a cane is annoying. I used to have one of those little camping chairs and it was pretty terrible.

Now I have this cane-stool which I got for last year and it was great. You can actually see how I decorated it in the photos section. The one catch is it isn't height adjustable, so you'd need to find one the right height for your husband. I'm 5'4" and this one was perfect for me.

One other reason I'd recommend the cane-stool is that it has you sit closer to a normal chair height. I can't sit on the ground, and I found the campfire sling seat kept me so low it barely helped.

You can find these at many medical supply shops under several brands. It's a hybrid Walker/Sorta Wheelchair.

Pimp canes don't have to be expensive!! My insurance wouldn't cover anything, so I picked this up in engraved gold god bless amazon http://www.amazon.com/Switch-Sticks-Folding-Walking-Bubbles/dp/B008RHF558/ref=sr_1_1?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1406600403&sr=1-1&keywords=switch+sticks

congrats on the writing!!! that's super awesome!!!

AMAZON!! http://www.amazon.com/Switch-Sticks-Folding-Walking-Bubbles/dp/B008RHF558/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1427679349&sr=8-1&keywords=switch+sticks I have the engraved pearl gold and get complements on it all the time. I keep meaning to get the black & silver one. (I'm 32, but like you, I have nerve damage and if I was going to have to use it for the ongoing future, I was going to be blinged.) They have all kinds of options.

Fashionable Canes that someone else linked is a good place too, but I felt as if the cane I got for the same price wasn't as sturdy, if that makes sense. I got another metal one, but their wood ones looked sturdy.

"I am from the non-Amazon country of Australia" just like you :)

And probably this useful foldable cane

u/MrSamster911 · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

John Watson pulls off one quite well.

as seen here

you need to get one very simple, but still looks like you have a cane for MEDICAL reasons, not because you're cosplaying. pretty much something like this. then dress however you want to dress (though it helps to not dress like a 14 year old).

and if people give you shit for carrying a cane, don't be afraid to tell the, why you have it

If a new chair isn’t an option I use this cushion for car rides and in chairs I expect to sit in for a super long time!! My physical therapist recommended it and I like that it has optional ice pack as well!

Ill be 5 weeks post op (ACL & Meniscus medial) tomorrow. As the other posted stated i would try the stairs on the crutches before hand. Recommend you take it very slow. Limit the amount to you need to go up and down them. As you get comfortable it will get easier. I would get some crutch pads. Have been using these.

As for studying the first week will be the hardest but after that studying for an exam should not be hard. The toughest for me is time budgeting. With so much time I procrastinate.

Try to get the house organized before hand, pillows to raise the leg on the couch, make walking around with the crutches easier and some ice packs. Good luck! You can pm if you have any questions.

Ok, so this is $50 above your price range, but TOTALLY worth it. I bought it for DragonCon last year and it was a godsend. It's a combination walker and transport chair. I used it as a walker and a seat every day, and stored extra water and food in the carrybag underneath the seat. Super useful. And, of course, the first day I overreached, but instead of having to go to the hospital, the medic and I turned the walker into the transport chair, and a hotel employee simply pushed me back to my hotel room, where I recovered in peace. (I tipped her well, of course.)

Tomorrow, thanks to new meds and my walker, Barney, I'll be going on my first solo vacation ever! I'm very excited.

Well, right now I am still undergoing ...oh so soooo many test , I basically work on my computer from a recliner. I have not had any income for about 3 years now ...so my options are limited as to what I can do... but I am thankful for what I have. I have become convinced that prolonged computer work should perhaps be consider in a recliner environment. My Doctors are trying to process the approvals to put me on disability. If that happens I may be able to afford a motorized lift recliner. That will go a long way in allowing me to be more productive on my computer. My plan is to use 80/20 products to build a shell around my chair that hangs my computer equipment. I already do that ...but the 80/20 will be more efficient . The other major help for me as far as productivity enhancement has been the Elgato Stream Deck. I feel like it is primarily marketed to the "gaming/streaming" community ...but to me that is just a minuscule iceberg tip compared to the massive productivity market. Before all this happen to me I taught computer courses in a very small college for 15 years ...and now I really don't want to roll over and just die (well most days). So the teacher has to learn new things ! I have a closed MediaWiki site for my personal research and library and develop tutorials and videos for this twitter generation.

I get it in my ass and the back of my thighs. I've been considering this one for the sitting bones cutouts.

I have a cheap one I bought at walmart quite some time ago. Nearly identical to this and beneath it I have one of these.

The addition of that beige padded seat cushion has helped a bit, but I still get a bit of pain. I think the sitting bones holes in the first one I linked will be more effective than the one with only the tailbone cutout. The purple ones seem good too, from reviews, but man the one I want is like 100 bucks lol.

This style would be easier to work with. Wood or metal, the right angle and straight runs will make things a lot easier/cleaner.

Here's a cheap one on Amazon. Essentially, they help keep the shoe's shape thus increasing it's life. Also, if they're cedar(maybe other types of wood work, too), they suck up some of the odor. A shoe horn can also help the longevity, specifically, from you smushing the shoe when you put it on.

Well, here's what I and my wife have going:
For comfort- a $50 lazy boy recliner, Craigs list usually has tons of them. Then get an Able Life Able Tray. Then a gaming laptop (I have an MSI GT70 Dominator, it's pretty awesome). Add a G13 gaming keyboard pad and a good gaming mouse and rest them on the chairs arms (less stress on your arms compared to reaching up to use the laptops keys). I've modified the tray's table area with a torque hinge so the laptop keyboard can be tilted downward to a comfortable angle. And lastly, esp. for summer, I have a fan clipped to the handle of the tray pointed at moi.

Wow, thank you! This is a great idea. I have been slowly moving forward with an office like this and had been thinking about these two as a way to possibly mount the monitors.

> Fuck the idea of for-profit healthcare right in the ass.

At the risk of sounding kind of like a jerk, can I point out that maybe it's your own fault for buying crutches at the hospital instead of paying $24 for them on Amazon?

I mean, seriously, even the Ontario health system is a ripoff by comparison.

And Canadian health care is also "for profit". Those doctors and nurses aren't working as volunteers. The government just tells those doctors and nurses that they can't make what they're worth in a free market.

My company produces accessories for medical devices, including feet for walkers that replace the tennis balls commonly used. Our feet our functional and fun- these ones are shaped like puppy feet! We sell a range of other products that will be listed on Amazon soon as well.

New to this community so I hope I’m posting right!

Here's a metal pipe with a leather grip. How exactly is that a DIY baton?
