(Part 2) Best ovens & toasters according to redditors
We found 710 Reddit comments discussing the best ovens & toasters. We ranked the 266 resulting products by number of redditors who mentioned them. Here are the products ranked 21-40. You can also go back to the previous section.
It's an electric roasting oven, like https://www.amazon.com/Oster-Smoker-Roaster-16-Quart-CKSTROSMK18/dp/B00AZBKTS2
They can go up to 450, which is too high for stew. You can slow cook in them if you turn the heat to 200. If you turn it any higher than that you need to keep a close eye on it because it might get above boiling temperature like OP found out.
Or you could just eliminate that bullshit coffee maker your mom gave you when you moved out and replace your shitty crumb-filled toaster with one of these bad mother-fuckers.
Here ya go
The Amazon Reviews seem to be mostly positive, so perhaps they just got a lemon.
Customers didn't post many pictures, but the two I saw showed one that worked nicely and was readable, and another that worked as poorly as OP's. Assuming everyone who gave the toaster a 1-star review had the same major complaint - that it didn't actually toast the image - then around 12% of these toasters might be defective in this way. 59% of the reviews were 5-star, though.
Amazon - $189.40
And if you don't care about brand, here's a knock-off:
Amazon - $63.98
> Convection Ovens are typically the smaller ones that can sit on your counter and don't require any preheating. (US)
Nope. Most modern ranges that are above the base price points are convection ovens. For example

Note the keyword there, "countertop". That one is closer to an air fryer, though likely with slower moving air. That is not "typical" at all, but that is one small subset of the convection oven market. Probably 75% of convection ovens are built in, and then the next largest segment would be built in to microwaves. The countertop toaster oven modes are relatively uncommon.
Greeting Reddit, this is the best $180 you'll spend all year: Breville 650XL Compact Smart Oven of the Gods.
Enjoy!
I need to weigh in that the dryer method is not only dangerous but also really embarrassing. I had the unfortunate experience of trying to explain to the local fire marshall and property management why I had started a fire in a common area. In the end we agreed to disagree and I moved to a different unit that had a washer and dryer in the unit.
I didn’t want to risk another dispute with the property management and decided to find a better solution. I used to do research and development and helped create several products you may commonly use today. With my background and experience I undertook this challenge in finding a way to properly warm my daipers. I experimented with many different ideas and solutions and ultimately came up with the “hot pocket method”. I know it sounds absurd but hear me out and your life will be changed forever.
Step 1:
30/45 minutes before you are ready to change take your diaper and wrap it in aluminum foil like a hot pocket. I suggest using the Reynolds’s heavy duty wrap ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00OBGVUQM/ ) , I attempted to use the Walmart brand and it resulted in another embarrassing dispute with property management. And let’s be honest if you have even a single fiber or moral compass you won’t support Walmart. (Support your local small businesses please).
Step 2:
Set your toaster oven to broil and set a timer for 17 minutes and place the pocket directly in the center. Again I’ve tested this with multiple products and endorse the Breville BOV650XL ( https://www.amazon.com/Breville-BOV650XL-Compact-Smart-Stainless/dp/B00357YS3A/ )
Step 3:
After the 17 minutes has completed remove the pocket from the appliance and allow to cool for 15-20 minutes.
Step 4: unwrap and enjoy
Totally agree! I currently have the smaller Breville and couldn't be happier with it!
Costco:
They're in the section by the foil wrap & plastic forks & whatnot. I usually buy bulk packs off Web Restaurant, but sometimes I'll snag an extra set if I see them in-person, as they don't last forever. These are actually pretty decently sturdy & have good snap lids on top, so I think they'll hold up to several dishwashing cycles without cracking!
My meal-prep approach is what I call "small-batch gourmet", aka I make like maybe 3 to 10 containers full of food, which tastes really good (instead of bland & boring), and then freeze them. I have a deep freezer & this method allows me to only have to cook one meal a night, then build up a large inventory that I can rotate through without getting sick of eating the same thing. And because it's "gourmet" (aka not lame food), I actually look forward to eating it, instead of getting the urge to get take-out. Tastes good, saves massive amounts of money, and fits my macros!
My primary meal-prep tools are the Instant Pot, Sous Vide, and Oster pellet smoker (awesome compact budget smoker for $60, with these pellets, which is oddly comparable to my Traeger). I make like 90% of my food in these three gadgets. I also do a lot of no-knead bread projects (English muffins, bagels, baguettes, dinner rolls, boulles, etc.) because of the convenience, and use a cheap vacuum sealer off Amazon for storing stuff long-term (ex. meat lasts 2 to 3 years when vac-sealed & stored in a freezer).

>Really the only thing they are missing is perhaps a automatic setting or a viewing window but that might exist in higher end toasters by now.
And twitter
Also clear view toaster
Yes!!! Found it!
Thank you!!
Microwaves are highly efficient from an energy standpoint. I think the general though is that a convection over has more utility. In fact today you can buy both in one unit, although expensive. Here is the first one I found off google:
http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-CMW-200-5-Cubic-Foot-Convection-Microwave/dp/B001C2J0FG
Not that much. Probably less than a Denmark style 6 slice toaster.
I love my Breville toaster oven. I might use it more than my fullsize oven...
Yep!
In case anybody has not heard of what these are, here is the one I have:
https://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-CSO-300N-Convection-Steam-Stainless/dp/B019XOZYEA/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1541362889&sr=8-10&keywords=cuisinart+toaster+oven+convection
Damn, major table envy here.
I’m having my family over (my mom volunteeres my house for thanksgiving) so 16 people. I got this turkey roast (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00CQLJESU?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_pd_title) for the turkey and I’m crockpot for mashed potatoes. That should leave the oven open for plenty of other dishes. I also just bought another table and did some furniture rearranging so I can fit 2 tables and 16 chairs into my house. It will be fun.
I have something little like this and it works just as well as the pricier ones. Either that or resale shops may have one. Good luck!
I bought a toaster oven and the ControlLeo Kit. But I haven't modded it yet. I just put the boards in and baked with convection... after about 4-5 minutes, they are ready.
Here's the oven I purchased on amazon:
[toaster oven] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0043E6PLC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
Literally just google "clear toaster"
Cuisinart makes a similar (perhaps) version here.
Might have included that in the first place ;)
Wouldn't a countertop oven be better than a bread machine? More expensive sure but oh to have an oven!
Oster Extra Large Digital Countertop Convection Oven, Stainless Steel (TSSTTVDGXL-SHP) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OXSR486/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Y8TXDbQER04MA
Cuisinart CSO-300N. Build quality is a bit chintzy for a $260 object (got it on sale for $160,) but it works remarkably well.
Cold roast beef procedure is to take a ~3lb rump roast, trim as much fat as possible, season (and preferably allow to sit overnight,) and steam-broil at ~300F for about ten minutes followed by steaming at 175F until the center hits 130 - about an hour. It's pretty similar to how it's produced commercially.
You get about 1/4" of well-done beef with perfect even rare all the way through. If you're on a diet, it's fantastic.
Dad is diabetic. Mom's dinners were modified for his diet. We never had a lot of sweets/desserts. I remember a lot of ground beef (chili in CrockPot, sloppy joes from scratch-not sweet, "goulash"-Americanized hash mix with egg noodles, tacos, plain hamburgers-no buns, just homemade wheat bread Mom made), pork chops when they were cheap, and whole chickens. We had a indoor grill that had a rotisserie on it, and Mom would rotisserie the chicken or grill the burgers/chops. We'd have rice most of the time, not a lot of potatoes or noodles/pasta. Always at least one vegetable, most of the time frozen because they were freshest and cheapest. When it was harvest time, the veg came from our garden. Rarely was butter/margarine on the table.
When I was 7, Mom went back to work and I started taking over dinner duties. I tried to branch out some, made a baked crispy chicken (breaded with cracker crumbs, herbs), tried out different spices and herbs. Submitted my menus to Mom & Dad the week before for approval and grocery shopping.
This was the grill: https://www.amazon.com/Farberware-Open-Hearth-Broiler-Rotisserie/dp/B000VL2B6Y
My immigrant friends and relatives are probably bigger purists about the traditional Thanksgiving meal than most who grew up with it. It's a (the?) quintessentially American meal, and that's what they like about it.
/u/tiglathpilesar is on the right track with spatchcocking the bird. I go a step further and debone it (except for the wings and drumsticks) a la Julia Child (here's a description). It makes for easy slicing and gives you plenty of bones for turkey stock.
Don't sweat the timing too much. If you try to have everything ready a la minute, something is bound to go horribly wrong. Instead, do as much as possible ahead of time. Some things (eg, cranberry sauce) can be made the day before, and most others (eg, green bean casserole) taste great even if they aren't piping hot. For stuff that you don't want to cool off too much, a slow cooker and/or an inexpensive portable roaster (which isn't worth a damn for actual roasting) are great for holding food that's waiting to be served.

Yep, it's a toaster, griddle and coffee pot. Only thing I don't like about it is the coffee has a warming plate with no automatic shut off Nostalgia BSET300AQ Retro 3-in-1... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F5D10TG?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

The Ultimate Microwave
https://www.amazon.com/Farberware-Open-Hearth-Broiler-Rotisserie/dp/B000VL2B6Y
So something like this is stupid to buy? I'm a grilling novice so these are actual questions, I'm not trying to be snarky
Yes! Yes! Yes! I swear, you will not regret it! Which one you thinking of getting? We actually have two separate ones. We have the Cuisinart Convection Toaster Oven (I bought this for hubby for our fourth wedding anniversary...he bought me a Vitamix) and this is the Air Fryer we have. I highly recommend getting the biggest one you can :) My BFF bought me the Air Fryer plus the Accessories for Christmas last year.
Cuisinart also makes one that’s pretty affordable

> glass toaster

The Cuisinart CMW-200 combo convection microwave is a better value, has much greater capacity to rotisserie full chickens and pizza, and is more versatile as microwave as well. Has a durable stainless steel interior and thick pyrex cooking plate that rotates. Comes with a stainless steel grill rack that can be used to cook two layers of food at the same time, or turn it upside down to grill with a drip plate underneath.
Here's a photo of a roast chicken made in one. I've owned one for several years. A cheaper option is a counter top convection oven. I got one with a rotisserie like this one. Making roast chicken at home will often pay for these in savings alone, particularly if you buy whole chickens on sale for less than $1/lbs. Save the bones to roast for making stock in a pressure cooker.
You can get one of these!
There are a variety of products out there. I have not used any of them.
https://cameronsproducts.com/product/the-original-stovetop-smoker/
https://www.amazon.com/Oster-Smoker-Roaster-16-Quart-CKSTROSMK18/dp/B00AZBKTS2
It's basically a small oven with a toasting setting. Check out Amazon.
Alright so I'm home now and looking around my apartment. You need this specific Fabuloso in your life with a spray bottle from the dollar store. A toaster oven because you can stick bread in it with toppings! I could never live without a toast oven again...lol. DO you have all your utensils and plenty of dish towels, bath towels and oven mits. Do you have plenty of lamps (this apartment and my last apartment lacked lighting)
Go cheap. I really like my super cheap B&D toaster toaster oven. You'll have to experiment with times and temperatures but this oven will do the job for way less and with less bother than the LCD+Clock+Digital competition.
I got it years ago. Can't find the same model but it looks like https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0043E6PLC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_svzLBbTCCVBG3
You need a convection oven. Fiddle with the placement of the racks and you can fit pizza, lasanga, bread pans and even an entire roast in there.
This model is even cheap, so you can make your boss feel bad by asking for the money to buy a new one.
The Dream!
Toaster oven
You can cook just about anything in one. Pizzas, cookies, toast, beans, rice, cakes, pies, steak, hamburgers etc. etc.
Save you money on food in the long run.
I think you guys are over looking that fact that we already have this technology, and it also make much more than cheesey toast. Link to said product.
We got this one for our wedding 5 and a half years ago and use it almost every day, love it. Easy to clean and relatively even heating. I make everything from broiled fish to banana bread to 12 inch frozen pizzas in it.
Example.
It's like a regular broiler oven with heat elements on both the top and bottom (selectable), but in a small countertop version. Great for making small things other than toast.
My favorite is pizza muffins: Cut English muffin in half, pre-toast a little. Add pizza sauce, parmesan cheese, American or mozzarella cheese, and pepperoni slices. Put in broiler or toaster oven and cook until the cheese is bubbly. Final (and most important) step: Eat before they have had a chance to properly cool, and scorch the shit out of the roof of your mouth.
Check this one out: Oster electric smoker.
Also can be done on the grill. I can't see buying a waffle iron just for this. Pan method, grill method, oven method, stone method -- they all work just fine. If I were going to buy a special piece of equipment, I'd buy something that could do more than just waffles and pizza -- like a toaster/broiler or one with a rotisserie so you could cook a multitude of things and not just waffles, pressed sandwiches and unconventional pizza.
I feel your pain. I picked up a two-in-one weenie cooker and bun warmer at a garage sale. It was easily worth the $8 just for the kitsch novelty. The cat killed it.
It looked like a single-weenie version of this: http://www.amazon.com/Nostalgia-HDT-600-Hot-Dog-Pop-up-Toaster/dp/B000N4KY8Q/
You dont have a battery powered toaster?
How are you not rolling up to the picnic w one of these
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LS7VOCC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_zhhwDbANFN4E6
They're called mini ovens in the UK/Europe. Pretty sure you can order from Amazon UK as here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Quest-Mini-Oven-Litre-Black/dp/B00K22YJEY/ref=sr_1_2?s=kitchen-appliances&ie=UTF8&qid=1474665185&sr=1-2&keywords=mini+oven
I bought the above and just put it in my office pantry. Use it every day to warm up burritos or my baked potatoes.
EDIT: You definitely get the same thing in France: https://www.amazon.fr/Mini-Oven-9-Litre-800W/dp/B00RY0X9NO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1474665602&sr=8-2&keywords=mini+oven

Not sure where you are from though.
Well given that cheap PCs are called toasters, a console is more like one of these
one vote here for a cuisinart convection toaster oven. previous generation of this model: https://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-TOB-195-Toaster-Broiler-Stainless/dp/B000PYF768/ref=sr_1_1?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1485792650&sr=1-1&keywords=cusinart+exact+heat+tob
i've had it for probably 12 years. i bake bread in it occasionally. even custom cut a baking steel for it. still going strong.

If you don't like coffee, I suppose you could use the coffee maker to heat water for tea. The toaster oven would be perfect for odd sized/shaped bread slices or you could toast a cheese sandwich in it. You could do a fry up on the griddle.
I wouldn't get one, though. It seems like it would be difficult to clean.
That's weird. Where do you live?
Toaster ovens can be bought at damned near any store (that carries kitchen appliance-y things) for about $20 in the US. I've used the same $20 toaster oven for about ten years, and it still works fine (it's getting pretty ugly with age, but is still functional). They aren't difficult to find; any store that sells kitchen appliances, even just a small selection of them, will have at least a couple of toaster ovens on the shelves. Walmart, Target, etc. all usually carry a few toaster ovens beside the toasters. I could have a new one in ten minutes in any city in the country, if mine broke and I had a toasting emergency.
Amazon has a decent looking one here for $22. There's cheaper even than that, but it's a brand I don't know, so wouldn't want to recommend it. Oster makes pretty good stuff, and it has good reviews.
Sure, you can spend more, but if you spend over $50 you should get one with convection oven features; that's about the low price point for a decent convection/toaster oven in the US. A convection oven has an air circulating fan that makes things cook (even) faster and more evenly. I plan to get a convection model next time I replace my toaster oven, so I'll spend over $50, but you definitely don't have to. Amazon has this beauty for only $54.
Man, I really like toaster ovens. I can't believe I'm still ranting about toaster ovens on the internet.
In the suggested below there isa $50 toaster with clear sides that solves at least one of those issues nicely.
Personally if I'm laying out $200 for a toaster it better be a toaster oven able to hold a full sized pizza.
Same idiots that bought this also have a hot dog toaster.
IMHO I can't justify spending $600 on a counter top oven. I've got this one. Oster Extra Large Digital Countertop Convection Oven, Stainless Steel (TSSTTVDGXL-SHP) https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00OXSR486/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_hyJ6BbEWG7CFJ and I like it. It was only 100$ when I bought it about a year ago. 600$ to add some fancy features that may or may not work. I just can't justify the extra 500$
Reminds me of a table top one my aunt uses for pork loin on some holiday meals, like this: https://www.amazon.com/Farberware-Open-Hearth-Broiler-Rotisserie/dp/B000VL2B6Y
It will be edible and that's about it. You need some direct heat on there to get color and crisp up that delicious skin. I don't think you need to worry about staining the walls and, if you're really, really worried about it grab one of these from Amazon or your local retailer: http://www.amazon.com/Norpro-2060-13-Inch-Splatter-Screen/dp/B004C26ON4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416339734&sr=8-1&keywords=splatter+guard
Another option would be to get yourself a toaster oven. They're great for single people or people with very limited space. I have one of these and, if I'm only cooking for me and my girlfriend, will use it instead of my full sized oven: http://www.amazon.com/Breville-BOV650XL-Compact-1800-Watt-Toaster/dp/B00357YS3A/ref=sr_1_2?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1416339840&sr=1-2&keywords=toaster+oven+breville

Looks like Prime members get a pretty good discount.
Edit: Also, most people thought it was just a joke on the show 30 Rock, but it was really a product plug. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trivection_oven
oh, crap! can you maybe look into a toaster oven? it would be safer until you can get the big oven fixed. that seems like a fire hazard.
I have one kind of like this but mine also has a rotisserie function
https://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-TOB-260N1-Convection-Toaster-Stainless/dp/B01M0AWSJX/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1542294964&sr=8-5&keywords=cuisinart+toaster+oven+convection
Taken on one of these
The answer for you depends on what your priorities and skill level are.
If the idea of using steam to reheat things like lasagna sounds good to you then a skillet for reheating is attractive.
You can easily make toast in a dry skillet BUT you really can't walk away from it like a toaster or a toaster oven. I crank out a lot of toast from skillets semi-professionally; it doesn't take long to get the hang of it.
Someone else recommended a convection microwave (https://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-CMW-200-1-2-Cubic-Foot-Convection-Microwave/dp/B001C2J0FG) which is great for reheating, cooking prepared foods (aka TV dinners), and small portion cooking. The problem with convection microwaves is that by the time you find one with a broiler element for toast the prices are pretty high - on the order of $500 I believe. That gets back to your priorities. If you want toast regularly including variants like bagels or Pop-Tarts then something that really toasts becomes more important. Interestingly toaster ovens generally don't make very good toast either. *sigh*
You'll see a lot of discussion about countertop ovens as a substitute for full-size ovens particularly in hot weather. Certainly they do have merit for that. In my view they have huge value as a supplement. If your oven is full of stuffed roast pork loin and roast veg and you squeezed in a casserole of mac and cheese the countertop oven gives you chance to make or at least warm rolls or biscuits.
My tendency would be a convection microwave (we'll buy one like that linked above if our old microwave fails) and a two-slot toaster (https://www.homedepot.com/pep/Hamilton-Beach-Classic-2-Slice-Chrome-Wide-Slot-Toaster-22790/205438980?mtc=Shopping-BA-F_HDH-G-D29B-29_28_SMALL_ELECTRICS-MULTI-NA-Feed-PLA-NA-NA-Toasters&cm_mmc=Shopping-BA-F_HDH-G-D29B-29_28_SMALL_ELECTRICS-MULTI-NA-Feed-PLA-NA-NA-Toasters-71700000048985548-58700005310601557-92700047118403883&gclid=CjwKCAiA5JnuBRA-EiwA-0ggPZ6liUy5dvCNTAT70hOoIGPXuZlqcouA0ngZXDXl2nrJFosSX7veiBoCwa0QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds). If you make a lot of toast you'll find a place for it on your counter or a shelf and if not it will fit nicely in a cabinet.
The last however is MY answer and may not be YOUR answer.
Buy one of those smaller, countertop ovens, like https://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-TOB-260N1-Convection-Toaster-Stainless/dp/B01M0AWSJX?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_2 . When you don't have huge fridges/freezers to store leftovers and buy ingredients for your meals every day or two instead of stocking up weekly, you don't need a huge oven. Anerican-style Thanksgiving turkeys ain't exactly in style everywhere.
It's already a thing.
