Oh right! Swanson SVE720 72-Inch Savage Straight Edge, Non-marring, Anodised and Laser-Etched Scale

I checked multiple stores I remembered seeing them in years ago with no luck, and eventually called Swanson to ask them where I can get them. All their brick and mortar suggestions were a no go, so Amazon it was.

No problem. I would recommend investing in something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Classics-Stainless-Backing-TPG-152-Inches/dp/B002IXKD9U?th=1 .

I have one from AC Moore or Michaels in the 6 inch size and it works great.

Another thing you could try if you don't want to invest in a new ruler is flip the ruler you're currently using upside down (so the flat side is at the top). You just want to avoid having the flat edge on the page where the ink could potentially smear.

In addition to the ruler, you may want to consider a T-Square.

It took me quite a while to find a link but here you go.

PS at that price point, I wouldn't mind getting the gen itself

Everything u/jayfehr said is correct. Michael's, Joann Fabrics, and Hobby Lobby are all good sources. Foamcore usually comes in 1/8" and 3/16" thicknesses, and I prefer 3/16" because the thicker edges are easier to glue. Any glue will do the job, but quick dry tacky glue is my personal favorite glue for foamcore building. For rulers, I suggest steel instead of aluminum, or at least something with a steel cutting edge. Xacto blades can chew up an aluminum ruler and dull their own edges in the process. If you're intent on doing this a lot, I also recommend a small T-square because it's important to make nice, clean right angles and a cutting mat to preserve your table and your blades.

If the artwork can be inset from the edges a little I use [These tabs] (http://www.amazon.com/See-Through-Archival-Mounting-Strips/dp/B000KNNIQU) around the sides of all sorts of framed stuff to hold the art in place. [The two vintage posters on the right] (http://i.imgur.com/7ITgkNp.jpg) are held in place with them.

Edit: quit being lazy and get an xacto knife or mat cutter to trim your foamcore, those are some ragged edges.

Have you seen the brick road robot? You could do something similar with tile and have the robot apply tile setting mat before depositing on the surface to be tiled.

You could try putting the mastic in fillable caulk tubes and using a screw or other means to press the mastic out of the tube. If the mastic had to be thinned, perhaps a fan or heat gun could be used to help set the mastic before the tile was applied.

Just FYI on rotary knives, I am at 8 months with mine cutting a lot of leather, still haven’t replaced it. They don’t wear out that fast.

Do get a safety ruler.... like this
