They sell something like that.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JS285JS

It has an 18650 in it and recharges with the sun.

Could you just use regular dumb fairy lights and control them with a Zigbee smart plug?

These are another option, not quite what you have in mind but they work well https://www.amazon.com/SYLVANIA-LIGHTIFY-Gardenspot-SmartThings-Assistant/dp/B00R1PB2ZY

For the bike pump I would recommend these conduit clamps and some ati-tamper screws . It will not fully prevent theft but it will act as a deterrent. You could also add some solar lights like these to help light up the area so a biker could fix there bike at night and help deter theft.

I'm installing a Schlage Connect and the Maximus Camera by Kuna instead of a doorbell. It prerecords events so you get 10 seconds BEFORE the trigger event. It's on sale right now (for lower than I paid a week ago, but apparently Amazon doesn't adjust anymore)

For those deadbolts, the August doesn't "replace" the lock, just sits on top of it, and requires the hub to connect it to wifi. I opted for the Schlage because it's Z-wave and works with the Smarthub I already have.

They are Sylvania Lightify Gardenspots. They are kinda pricey, but they’ve lasted outside all year round for the past few years. I bought them on sale a few years ago.

If you are starting from Scratch I would look at Osram lightify garden strips. https://www.amazon.com/SYLVANIA-LIGHTIFY-Osram-Gardenspots-Adjustable/dp/B00R1PB2ZY/ref=sr_1_5?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1496056371&sr=1-5&keywords=osram+lightify
They are meant for outside AND you can remove the spikes and screw them directly onto the deck ( they are designed this way)
Another solution is to get outdoor rated lightstrips and connect them with this
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NMSQ4QQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It is a ballast that will connect to HUE ecosystem or actually any zigby controller. I use one of these for lightstrips in my kitchen

industrial Ceiling Light, Edison Hanging Caged Pendant Light Fixture. Amazon's Choice, 17 bucks handled and shipped.

u/way2funni · 2 pointsr/howto

You want to stay away from the solar cell or battery powered led 'arrays' which may have anywhere from a dozen to 50 or move low voltage led's hooked up in an array, commonly connected to a sensor trip to light up for 30 seconds or so and then turn off.

Some of these are strong enough to really light up a driveway or a yard, especially if you use two or three of them across the edge of the roof.

For a residential driveway in a typical street - Something like this should do the trick

Something like this is overkill in the city but if you are rural and well away from neighbors and need something that throws light out a hundred feet or more - you want one of these 100/150/200 watt jobbers on a 20 foot pole

That's about all I can think of at the moment.

If you are going to do this, do it in stages. Z-Wave and ZigBee are mesh networks...meaning that the reliability of the network gets much better the more devices you have. Also, with these mesh networks:

  • Battery operated devices DO NOT reinforce the mesh
  • The only devices that reinforce the mesh are devices that are always powered from the mains

I see so many people complaining about how the Z-Wave or ZigBee devices don't work, when they are relying on too many battery operated devices.

For Z-Wave devices, choose Z-Wave Plus over Z-Wave...it's the newest standard, and has much better range.

In the US, Z-Wave operates in the 900 MHz spectrum and ZigBee in the 2.4 GHz spectrum. Personally, I "prefer" Z-Wave devices as there is a lot of "junk" in the 2.4 GHz spectrum right now. However, the ZigBee devices are operating reliably as I have a strong mesh setup (with non-battery operated devices).

Two great application for the Leak Sensors:

  • Near your hot water heater (when they go, they always leak)
  • Under your A/C drip pan (if you have central air)

Great applications for door open/close sensors:

  • Turn closet lights on/off when the door opens or closes
  • Turn on entry and hallway lights when an entry door opens, but only when it's dark (30 minutes before sunset or after sunrise)...turn off 1 minute later
  • Notify me when my gun safe is opened

    Great Application for Motion Sensors

  • Turn on outside ceiling fans (but only if the temp is above 72 degrees)
  • Turn on lamps while motion is active when it's dark

The motion sensors I linked above are the new ones...the magnetically mount. What's cool is that the magnet is in the sensor, and it's strong enough to attach the sensor to a dry wall screw (no need to mount the adapter bracket).

Solar light like this and a convex mirror

Not exactly sure if this is what you're looking for or if these are any good but I've had this on my wishlist for quite some time just in case I see a need for it.

I bought one of these solar lights to light my driveway, and I'm pretty pleased with it. Not super crazy bright, but I only needed enough light to get to my car without tripping.

u/silky_m · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

Yeah I used the NDR Razors but I know Lotus makes good ones too. Here is an Amazon link but these seem way too expensive; I think mine were $25 each from an electrical supply store.

You need space for the junction box/driver but it's still so much easier if you don't have a ton of space to work with.

u/theaveragegay · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

>These Lights on Amazon have been pretty solid. I've had them for about 8 months now and they work great. I have two in the front yard. I like that they have one setting that remains dim at all times and when it senses motion it goes fully bright. The only thing is they need full direct sun to get a good charge and will last through the entire night. The motion sensor is pretty responsive too.

I found clear floats at a store called Home Emporium, then painted the insides (although they didn't come out as vibrant as I'd hoped), and added this fixture and these bulbs.

Hue has outdoor floodlights.

Or you can just buy a single PAR38 hue bulb like I did for my existing fixture.

Overhead track lighting with spotlights is the standard way to do this. It will illuminate it nicely without glare for the viewer. You will need to be able to aim/rotate your lights because your track light install wont be centered on poster.

Something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07D6JVR1B/ref=psdcmw_14325541_t1_B00NP2ZV4U

If you are looking for more of an exotic effect you could use a wall washer fixture. This will give a different effect that can alternatively increase/decrease details of the picture. You would probably mount it slightly above the poster on the wall and need to be able to aim it to get the light mostly on the poster. Something like this could work:

https://www.amazon.com/YRXC-Waterproof-Billboards-Building-Decorations/dp/B07PDLN4W7/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?adgrpid=59694723527&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIwvnztZ2O4gIVkrXACh3Hkg7pEAAYASAAEgJqdPD_BwE&hvadid=274719836300&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=1017047&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1t1&hvqmt=e&hvrand=9826279753458833507&hvtargid=kwd-6307038521&hydadcr=15095_9510254&keywords=led+wall+washers&qid=1557397464&s=gateway&sr=8-9

If you paint, I think something like a washable paint would be nice for if/when you want to clean the place. Given it's relatively small size, I wouldn't want to cover it in something too dark, else the room will feel a bit small and cave like. I'd probably keep the walls off-white and make the interior of the door and its trim a forest green.

That window would be accented nicely with some wood blinds, then endcapped with some drapes that compliment whatever wall color you go with.

For lighting, I quite like the Edison light chandeliers that I've seen in a few cigar lounges. That would give you some aesthetics to play with mounting wise to emphasize or deemphasize the slant roof.

I'd also swap that end table with the globe and move that figure from the window sill to the back corner. I imagine given the layout you're more likely to end up sitting along the wall and window, so those are the seats I'd give priority.

If you want to go the custom route with a shelving/storage/console to put along the wall, I know architecture students typically do that freelance design work and won't charge too much. Then you can get a local cabinet maker to build to your design and have it installed, probably a little costly compared to an ots item, but it would fit better than most anything else you can find and give some really nice aesthetic.

Overall it seems to be shaping up as a nice home lounge. Good job getting the wife to greenlight that project. Keep us posted as to what you decide to go with. Judging by how far you've come, I don't doubt you can go the rest of the way and make the space look great.

If you like the look of the E05, you might dig the E11 as well. $6 more, similar looking (but a bit bigger, runs on a single AA), but can crank out 115 lumens if you need it (also having a 38 lumen mode that'll run for 8 hours).

I have Osram Lightify Gardenspot strings in front of my house and they give off quite a bit of light. I have them running through my Wink hub, but plan on buying the gateway for finer control. I'm quite happy with them and may be buying more for the backyard.

u/ekzoo85 · 1 pointr/smarthome

I have pretty much the same stuff as you, and I feel your pain (a I'm sure others are thinking, "Damn you, that's a lot of stuff"!)

I feel like I've pretty much maxed out and just waiting for the current things to work more fluid.

Anyway, a recent purchase I've made that I didn't see on your list were Osram GardenSpots (they look awesome outside with my lanscaping).

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00R1PB2ZY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_D3nkybAH2ZG8J (this price is kinda high, I think I paid around $34 for these on sale)

In addition, I picked a couple of these up on ebay, and it works with both Wink and SmartThings.. They are 2-Channel Smart Plugs that basically have two outlets you can control individually for around the same price as the ones that only can control 1. I use it to control a floor fan and desk lamp. The other one is used for a coffee machine and some plug in LED strips.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/361826630198

Finally, I know you have Hue, and I do too, but if you're still in the market for some RGBW's, the same company that sells those smart plugs above has some on their website.

www.inovelli.com

I picked some up off ebay, so maybe they're just out of stock there.

Lastly, let me know if you ever get the Big Ass Fan bc I've been checking those out as well for my 3-seasons room. May pick one up in the spring.

Oh, I forgot, have you heard of Leaksmart? I have it installed and think it's pretty sweet. They need to work on their sensors though as their batteries seem to die quickly (for me at least on Wink).

Good luck!

What kind of pendant lamp? One with a plug? One that hard wires into the ceiling? One with a shade? Ikea and Amazon both sell pendant lamp cords for pretty cheap. West Elm and CB2 have a variety of pendant lamps.

u/2pointeight · 1 pointr/cinematography

What about using regular bulbs, I know they aren't the same but you can find pendant/paper lantern bulb holders easily.

Just food for thought.

u/secondsleeping · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

I know these are not 2 lights in one like you're looking for, but I had the exact same need for a light over my trash cans and I put one of these up on the side of the house: https://www.amazon.com/InnoGear-Lights-Bright-Outdoor-Security/dp/B017LYD93C/ref=sr_1_54?keywords=solar+light&qid=1565716053&s=gateway&sr=8-54

I did this maybe a year ago and they are still going, still bright, no malfunction, exposed to the elements. I put another over at the back door and works fine. I don't really notice them from the ground. Glad I got them.

u/Abrham_Smith · 1 pointr/DIY

Got these to line my driveway for safe driving at night. They barely get any sun and stay on almost all night. When you're not near them they dim a bit but when you're near they are pretty bright.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017LYD93C/

u/electromage · 1 pointr/flashlight

I'd recommend one of these:

JetBeam BA10

Fenix E11

Streamlight Protac

They're all 1xAA, with tailcap switches, under $35, and decent quality. The Fenix is probably the best of the three. The JetBeam is the brightest, but I've had various QC issues with their lights, especially with the switches either blinking or sticking on.

If you want more lumens from a pocket size light, you'll probably need to step up to lithium power.

u/newtolou · 0 pointsr/homeautomation

I bought two Lightify Gardenspot sets. I am able to connect the LEDs end to end, leaving me with an extra power supply/controller for me to cannibalize.

The power supply shows a rating of 5V 2500mA. The instructions look like I can throw up to 14W on it.

Using these LEDs it looks like I could power about 1.5 meters, enough to backlight my tv.

I would like to cut off the special connectors they use and use this controller elsewhere. In my mind, I can't think of a reason that it wouldn't work, but I figured I'd ask.

Edit - wrong length at first
