I was out Sunday drinking with a friend of mine from Australia one time, this was back when I lived in Ireland. A few pints in he went to get food and I headed over to a book shop I like to look at photo books. It was busy but quiet. All of a sudden from my pocket, at full volume, comes "OI GATECREEPER YA STUPID CANT, ANSWER YA FACKIN FANE, YA FACKIN PADDY CANT".

Enjoy, [fellow Scientist] (https://www.amazon.com/Dudes-Reading-2017-Wall-Calendar/dp/1452152578). Anything for Science!

Edit: PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT - IT is an Instagram account (that's where the calendar came from). You could get Hot Dudes Reading right on your phone! For science, of course.

The Twitter beef with Louis was pretty wild and childish but fortunately the 2 did reconnect after Louis' mom passed away and I think they're good now.

The not touring thing isn't his fault, he has anxiety. He does want to tour - he even has a chapter/page in his book where he explains "I want to play live. I will play live and he has shared in the past how sick he felt before performances when he started out performing solo. I'm sure he'll tour in support of his upcoming album (whatever it's titled and whenever its coming) and he has been rehearsing, so I still have faith in him lol. Hopefully he does start out with smaller venues like he suggested in the book, and eventually be able to confidently do bigger shows/tours.

The dems deserve a lot of blame because they pushed a pro-establishment candidate during a populism-driven election year.

It's like trying to sell snowblowers in Miami. The DNC pushed Clinton, alienated Sanders' supporters and independent populist voters (who ended up voting for Trump after Sanders conceded), and didn't draw enthusiasm or passion among people of color. Clinton's campaign was literally a cult of personality, with her slogan being a pledge of fealty, "I'm with Her".

I was just at a Barnes and Noble and noticed that some hardcore Clinton zealots published a manifesto, "Pantsuit Nation".

The left wanted change, not obsessive loyalty to a pro-corporatist status quo with social justice window dressing.

If you enjoyed the link, there are two beautiful books of photos of the Revolutionary War generation that aren't mentioned in the article. I highly recommend these (the second one was just published):

The Last Muster, Volume I

The Last Muster, Volume II

The photographer died in 2009, but his Flickr profile from 2008 stated you could go to his website for archival prints. There doesn't seem to be any point of sale on the website but you might try emailing to see if anyone replies.

I suppose the next best thing would be his recently released book, Jazz: Photographs and Recollections.

That looks awesome. Here's a link to the book discussed in the article.

even back then there were enough people to cover it all from every different perspective. maybe not as many youtube video as you would see these days, but still..

"here is new york" is an amazing collection of these photos. there is a website for this book as well, but it is down for repairs at the moment..

from amazon: this book contains pages of uncaptioned photographs, almost 1000 of the more than 5000 photos submitted by some 3000 photographers.

Just googled that, and the top link was this.

Tashi! He's good friends with my mum, so good to see him getting credit where it's due! Awesome guy and amazingly talented. I'll send him the link to this post, I'm sure he'd love to read the comments. :) Also, he just released a book called 'Sacred Scripts' if anyone is interested. https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Books/Sacred-Scripts-Meditative-Journey-Through-Tibetan-Calligraphy/1608878791/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1484005074&sr=8-1&keywords=sacred+scripts

I'm pretty sure this is from this book.

u/goats_the_kid · 1 pointr/CharlieChaplin

Oh man, I totally forgot to check on this.

It was apparently published in a larger volume with The World of LimeLight. Here it is on amazon uk. Looks to be cheaper on there. And here it is on the Italian website of the organization that compiled the novella..

Thanks for reminding me. I'm buying it now.

Loved Picturing Prince such a beautiful collection of vignettes, it felt like getting behind the purple curtain a bit!

Joy: You may be familiar with the German photographer, August Sander, who did many portraits during the years of the Weimar Republic. Poet, Adam Kirsch, did a book of poems inspired by Sander's work. The title is "Emblems of the Passing World". The preview on Amazon's website includes several photos and accompanying poems. You may want to have a look. I think your project sounds wonderful.

What you want to publish is called "ekphrastic" poetry BTW.

My friend just published a photo book on the music scene in Beijing.
Amazon

Carsick Cars is good, so is Pet Conspiracy.
Rock In China Wiki maybe a helpful resource.

Also, check out D-22, Mao Live, and YuGongYiShan's websites. They are the best live music spots in Beijing for a lot of the up and coming musicians.

It's not just the Foos that do this. ALL bands are doing this due to fuckwit PR agents.
