You should swap your bike helmet for a proper skateboard helmet. Looks cooler and better protection. Like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Pro-Tec-Classic-Skate-Helmet/dp/B00ZX0HABO

u/Yomiel94 · 4 pointsr/ElectricSkateboarding

Wrist guards. If you write code for a living or just use a computer, they're very worthwhile (plus most falls will kill your palms without them). Not the set I own, but they look good

For padding I bought these:
Knees, elbows

Helmet looks like a good deal. Ideally, you also want decent shoes, long-pants, and a jacket to cover your arms, legs, and feet. This is what I wear when I'm really riding quickly, but for < 20 MPH, you can probably shed a bit of it.

I am using these cheap ones from amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01G8GZ9HI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They have already saved me a couple of times. Probably will save me a couple more pretty soon.
These in addition to your helmet should be enough to save you from most but not all injuries.

They’re for roller blading. Called bladegear I think.

Let me find you link

Yup. Bodyprox Protective shorts. When I ride to work in full padding, most of the time I’ll just leave them on as they’re very comfortable. Contour-wise, they’re quite flattering. Makes me look like I do deadlifts.

They have other models such as the Firewallthat have much more ventilation.

The giant delivery man rack and high viz gear mean that the fashion ship has sailed a long time ago on my commuter😂

Wouldn't having a vizor make you much more aerodynamic? Around your helmet is where the wind buffets the worst.

Knee and elbow pads plus set of wrist guard

Knee pads
Elbow pads
Wrist Guard

This might be a bit of an overkill, but once you join the BB diving club, you’ll understand. I’ve taken several falls and even side swiped by a car, so I know what I’m talking about.
Defensive riding is highly recommended and be safe.

I've been using the protec ones.. my only gripe is that the middle strap is a little long, but nothing that can't be fixed w/ a little ingenuity. they also didn't prevent me from taking a fair amount of skin off of my knuckles during my last spill from my bamboo gtx, so my gf got me these, which i've been wearing under the protec wrist guards with no problems and the added benefit of feeling goddamned bulletproof. the extra bulk also helps take up some of the slack on that middle wrist guard strap. hth! :)

u/SuperBadJuJu · 3 pointsr/longboarding

A lot of them don't protect the hip right, they are padded lower or front / back. I like the cheapo Body Prox crash shorts. They're super comfy and protect the hip nice. Just looks like you have a phone / wallet in your pockets when you wear them.

Edit: These

Remember where you first started driving? Same places, practice in Church and HS parking lots, ideally when they are empty! As a beginner you should seriously think about wrist guards and knee pads. Here in the North there is an added danger right now of sand on the roads, so as you start to push your turning radius the chances of sliding out are greater because of it. Which is what the wrist guards and knee pads are for. You can get a serviceable set for ~$20, well worth in until you are more comfortable. This assumes you are always wearing a helmut:-)

I don't think it goes far enough up the wrist to prevent sprains. Check out the ones they have for skateboarding, I think that might be what you are looking for. http://www.amazon.com/Pro-Tec-Street-Skate-Wrist-Guards/dp/B000EYMA78/ref=sr_1_13?s=action-sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1345137630&sr=1-13
Something like this will keep your wrist locked down and you will be able to wear your gloves. Don't expect to move your wrists much.

I use these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BFPH0NE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_VieYDb5S20SCK

They are wrist guards, and I wear gloves (usually fingerless) under them for warmth. They are comfortable for me, and provide a lot of protection both for your hand hitting the ground, and your wrist taking the impact. I have streetfaced 4 times since getting into eboarding, once when going 27mph downhill. The only time my hands/wrists got hurt was when i forgot to extend my fingers before hitting the ground, and tore a bit of skin off the tip of my finger. It was summer then and i was not wearing gloves under the guards.

The velcro quality is not the greatest. I had to replace the velcro after only a couple months of (daily) use. When I had my 27mph fall, one of the straps frayed a good bit of the way through, so I need to replace them, but im being lazy cus I dont want to sew on new velcro again haha. (Otherwise, the build quality has held up great to 4 nasty falls)

For that reason I have been looking for other wrist guards that provide the same amount of palm protection and wrist support, but I have not found anything that looks like it would be a perfect replacement for these. Slide gloves dont have wrist support, flatland 3D have only the barest of palm protection, etc. These guards do it all for me, and the fact that they are dirt cheap excuses the shitty velcro in my mind.

I highly recommend them.

I use these elbow pads:

https://www.amazon.com/Bodyprox-Elbow-Protection-Large-Sleeve/dp/B072B9KB4L/

They look like the're in between the triple8 stealth and exoskin pads. I also have the knee pads, but they're pretty bulky so most of the time I wear football knee/shin pads that are thinner but also give me that shin protection.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07K69TGHF

Lately since its been cold I moved over to my rain pants that I bought for motorcycle riding and I LOVE onehweel riding in them. These aren't the exact ones I have because I've had mine for 10 years but they're similar: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07LGX2WCS/

I took an unexpected low speed nosedive Saturday on a gravel logging road with those pants and elbow pads on. I fell straight on my side without catching myself at all and it was almost like jumping into bed it was that soft of a fall.

u/GundoSkimmer · 2 pointsr/bicycling

Since nobody is helping you, I recommend protection for sports where movement is extremely important. Aka not skateboard or BMX pads. Try hockey or ergonomic MTB pads. You want a very "active" hinge to avoid chafing. Wearing a liner like tights under will help as well.

Viking Cycle Ironside Motorcycle Jacket for Men (Red, Medium) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MXJVS5F/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_WYJlDb40RAH9B

Also look for snowboard/skiing crash pads. Same thing as the football compression shorts but with more ass padding.

I really like these wrist guards. They will protect your palms from an injury like that but they are not as hot as gloves.

u/knuck887 · 2 pointsr/ElectricSkateboarding

Just search TSG Pass on Amazon, or I'll link it when I get home

Here you go

u/thestrykrhd · 2 pointsr/boostedboards

I live in NYC with bunch of reckless drivers. So I got a full face helmet.

and these fairly priced knee, elbow and wrist guards

For gloves, I got this as I will not be wearing the wrist guard because I'm more of a commuter than a fun rider so I need my hands fully functional at all times.

And finally, these reflective vest for the night zombies.

Bought these on Amazon

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0756DDVJ5/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

There are more expensive ones but these work just fine to protect my tail bone. Keeps your ass warmer too lol.

u/choomguy · 1 pointr/mountainbiking

So, follow up question. Im 6-1 175, not big boned. Ive worn many kneepads for my job, and they either are tight in the calf, loosein the thigh of vice versa. My calves will never keep a kneepad up on their own. I feel like a stretchy strap just below the crease in back of the knee would be best for me. My knees sweat bad in my work kneepads, dont know if thats weird or not, so i feel like whatever i get needs to be open or mesh or something that ventilates really well. Yeah, elbow pads may be unneeded , but ive worn them for downhill and they would seem to be less uncomfortable than kneepads, and id more like the forearm protection so why not? Im not looking for indestructo protection, more abrasion protection, and just some foam over the boney parts. Ive looked at the pocs, but i was also looking at this brand

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JJKTWWH/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

Any thoughts?

I can recommend
Wrist guards:
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00BFPH19M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They have saved me twice and work as advertised. Also, I can fit leather gloves under them - that system works nice.

And I can also recommend:

https://www.smithsafetygear.com/collections/elbow-pads/products/smith-scabs-kool-elbow-pad-black

I rock those 2 things and a helmet and ride with confidence and respect for the onewheel.

u/V3d0 · 1 pointr/snowboarding

I bought 20 dollar crash pants off Amazon last winter after I lost an edge on steep ice and hit my tailbone HARD. I can't afford to take time off work because I broke my 45 year old ass. They are a game changer. Wish we had those 20 years ago when I started riding! I suggest buying them in advance to anyone who is planning to try snowboarding. I feel like destroying your tailbone will discourage most people from sticking with it.

I tried the Burton ones and hated them. They were hard and made falling hurt more plus they were super uncomfortable and expensive. Edit Amazon link

I went with these guys.
Dakine Wristguard (1-Pair), Black, Medium https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CJ3CUK4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_zsAvOrj3pv1Gy
I think someone here recommended them a few weeks back.
Not gloves but my palms are covered and they're mainly to stop me from breaking a wrist.

u/QQFactory · 1 pointr/longboarding

Thanks for the reccs! I have a Triple Eight helmet!

As for type of pads I see that there are "covert" versions which seem like a softer version with less plastic as opposed to the normal ones. Not sure if it's worth getting those if they're not much protection. Any thoughts on the differences?

u/TwistedStack · 1 pointr/Philippines

Does anybody know a physical shop which sells wrist guards for skating like these? Toby's only sells a set of wrist guards with elbow and knee pads. I'm looking for just wrist guards for ice skating.

u/ichiban168 · 1 pointr/onewheel

I personally would recommend a helmet that complies with U.S. CPSC Bike and ASTM F-1492 Skate safety standards, so you can use for both. I got myself a Triple Eight Gotham. There's a version with MIPS and another without.

It's 370 on Amazon. I missed out on that 10% off, but thanks for the feedback! This is the Amazon link. Is this the new or the old one? TSG Pass Carbon Helmet, Large https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00K2T0O0A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Sy.zxb533A9K6
