If it got that hot it probably damaged the non-stick coating too. Teflon starts to emit gases at around 400F, dangerous amounts above 500F. Source

This seems to be the same spatula and is supposed to be good for up to 450F, so I'm guessing the pan was a lot hotter than that to melt all the way through. You might want to throw out the pan and make your roommate buy you a new one.

It's possible that they're just linking to Amazon pages as a non-affiliate.

Years ago, Amazon affiliate links had the account name in the URL. Shauna used to do undisclosed affiliate links and I remember checking on some and they definitely had the word "glutenfreegirl" in them.

I just looked at a couple of Chefsteps Amazon links and their name wasn't in the URL. But there's also something called cloaking which is used to hide the affiliate ID, i think. And the other thing is that the last time I looked into this was years ago and the internet changes all the time. So.

I compared ChefSteps' link to a spatula on Amazon to the URL of the same item when I did a search for it myself.

First, my direct search URL:

https://www.amazon.com/Get-Right-GIRSPU303RED-Spatula-Red/dp/B00BJT61FE?ref_=ast_bbp_dp

Next, URL of the ChefSteps link:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BJT61FE/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=sl1&tag=delvkitc-20&linkId=b603802f9c4f13b44efb09c049eb5c62

I know zero about coding but the internet says that when a URL has "tag" in it, it's an affiliate link. I'm guessing that the long string of characters at the end, after "linkId=" is the ChefSteps ID. I mean, that seems pretty obvious, right?

I just bought a silicone spatula thing for a dollar at wal-mart. I could never justify the purchase because "you can just use a knife''. I put icing on a cake with it and my life will never be the same.

...there are wooden spatulas? I use to own one. If you don't believe me, here's a link to an amazon link for one:

I have one like this with an extra red bit in the handle with the text "Good Cook." I really like it because it seems well made, fits my hand, and is vaguely reminiscent of a pirate's cutlass. :)

Just like this one, only red: http://www.amazon.com/Good-Cook-Touch-Spatula-Spreader/dp/B0028LZ6MG

Not everyone may have these but a silicone cake spatula is fun to use for light impact play during foreplay.

$205 is the best I could do.. you could probably get a cheaper cutting board.. but.. that was the best large plastic one I could find..

slotted spoons for removing times from broth, creamy sauces such as baked beans, and vegetables from steamed bags or out of pots of water.

it sounds crazy but a silicone cookie spatula like this one is a wonder in the kitchen. (and I don't bake cookies) We have blown through about 4 of these now. cause we use them for everything!

I hate hate hate when my cutting board slips around when I am trying to cut, chop etc. so I bought this stuff cut to fit under my cutting boards and use it all the time. you can get a small roll of this stuff at Walmart for about 3 dollars

I also use tongs all the time and have thought everyone else to use them also. great for fries, picking up anything hot out of a skillet turning over things you can't grab with your hands, etc.

I have some like this for my nonstick pans (so I don't scratch them)

https://www.amazon.com/Kitchen-Silicone-Non-Stick-Stainless-Grilling/dp/B074WB5D79/ref=sr_1_8?

and some of these for my stainless steel pans and the grill

Good morning everyone. I pray you are all having a very blessed and stress free day. I have to go to the viewing for my cousin today. This may be the hardest day yet, but that's alright. My family will get through this and we'll find a way to remember him the way he would want, with liquor and laughter. Thank you all for the support, the kind wishes.

I couldn't slack on randomness today, so here's some stuff to keep you busy.

Something like this would probably work perfect, you could easily find them at a grocery store

Edit: fixed link

That to me sounds like the Good Cook Touch Spreader Spatula that /u/SurrealSam mentioned below.

They used to be red and the last one I bought was grey. Seems the handle degrades and snaps after a couple years. I've owned about three.

u/BillClam · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

A spatula Perhaps one of the most versatile of cooking utensils.

Ways to hang things, I'm ADHD so having a place to put my keys is a life saver, get a "things" bowl if you have a counter near your door.

u/blahblahbush · 2 pointsr/tipofmytongue

Don't you know you're not supposed to throw out a man's spatula?

Geez, you may as well have castrated him. Poor guy, he'll be pining for that spatula now. Sitting on the porch in the evenings, drinking a beer and thinking that once, he really had a good spatula, and now it's gone.

And sure, it got replaced, but the new one just doesn't have the same energy. He misses the thrill he felt just to hold it, how his heart would race as it slid around the bowl, and the way it felt against his tongue as he licked up the cream. It was "The One", and it'll never be the same...

I probably would seriously struggle without youtube (or my mim) I'm a very visual learner and as much as I love recipe books I find seeing something made a much better way to learn how to actually do something. Literal physical item, I have a big old farm house stlye bowl that I've had since I was little (It was my mims but I commandeered it when I left for uni) which even though its stupidly heavy and a pain to store I feel like I couldn't bake as well without it.

I wish I had these as I've just moved and I'm seriously lacking cooking utensils which is slightly maddening.

u/MasterRen · 2 pointsr/secretsanta

Here's some food-related gift ideas. I personally bought the GIR Ultimate Spatula and Ultimate Flip recently and love them. Really good reviews on Amazon too. If you know their favorite color, you can get them in that color.

Mine son loooooves these mini silicone spatulas! They double as teethers and drumsticks :-p I have a set that I keep in his stroller, and another that he plays with at home

u/Semigourmet · 2 pointsr/recipes

besides what I listed?

Tongs(several pair), pancake turners nylon and or silicone, a whisk or two, preferably silicone coated so you can use them in your pans. A mini prep (mini chopper) and maybe a stick blender or counter blender, good skillets (I like to keep a small ceramic skillet (not the expensive ones,a bout $25. and a larger nonstick) the small skillet I like for making my eggs in the morning, cooking a piece of sausage or two etc. the large is for everything else and by large I mean about a 10 3/4" pan. a couple of saucepans, Dutch oven, and a crockpot. this will give you several different ways to cook things, such as braising, slow cooking stir frying an sautéing. also I would invest in a good microwave steamer. that can be used to steam veggies, and cook rice.

mini prep: (I have this one) https://www.amazon.com/Conair-Cuisinart-DLC-2ABC-Processor-Brushed/dp/B0000645YM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469469352&sr=8-1&keywords=mini+prep

Whisks like these, and you can usually find them in packs of two or three:
https://www.amazon.com/Freshware-KT-130RD-Stainless-Silicone-Covering/dp/B00405W824/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1469469422&sr=8-13&keywords=silicone+coated+mini+pancake+turner

these are GREAT! I have 3 and they get used a lot! ***https://www.amazon.com/OXO-Grips-Silicone-Cookie-Spatula/dp/B001QTVT4K/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1469469554&sr=8-15&keywords=mini+silicone+spatula

shoot almost forgot you will need a casserole such as a 9X13 (highly called for size) and an 8X8 somewhere around that size too. and baking sheets. If you have a same club or costco near you that you can get to they are Cheap there these are Heavy duty and will last you for years!

they have a pack of two of these at Costco/Sam's for about 18 or 20 bucks.

https://www.amazon.com/Vollrath-17-3-12-7-Half-Size-Sheet/dp/B001BQKRJG/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1469469725&sr=8-5&keywords=vollrath+sheet+pan

I also like this size for smaller jobs I have two of these also. Bought at separate times because I could't find a deal on these and they cost me a bit.

https://www.amazon.com/Vollrath-9-1-Quarter-Size-Sheet/dp/B0001MS400/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1469469725&sr=8-4&keywords=vollrath+sheet+pan
Hope this helps you.

We'd all like to think it ended in 1943. Sterilization and the Eugenics board was alive and well in North Carolina into the 1970s. As an NC native, it's not a very fun part of our history.

Likewise. I used to have a tool very similar, like this and I'd use it for damn near everything. I'd whack it on the edge of the pan often enough it was about to bust, and I made frantic efforts to replace it to no avail.

So now I have this and I don't think i've used an ordinary wood spoon since.

I have a couple of small, yet invaluable, kitchen tools that I couldn't do without. You can put together a great cornucopia of kitchen tools for her.

  1. Tongs
This is great for turning, mixing, flipping, serving, etc.

  2. Microplane
This goes well beyond cheese. This is great for grating ginger, garlic, etc.

  3. citrus press
    Such a great time saver.

  4. silicone spatulas
The silicon tip allows you to use it for high temperatures and the flexibility is key when you're scraping a mixture out of a bowl. Speaking of bowls...

  5. bowls

Stainless steel utensils! I forgot to buy big cooking spoons for my new place >.<

For your personal kit right? I have a couple of rubber spats(this one is awesome http://www.amazon.com/iSi-Basics-Silicone-Slim-Spatula/dp/B000S171GM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1408920699&sr=8-2&keywords=isi+spatula) a wooden spoon, metal/silver cooking or plating spoons, micro plane, mini wisk for brunch, peeler, scissors, chop sticks, and a parisienne scoop.

Stainless. You can get them at Walmart in the camping section. Avoid those that have plastic handles.

For true spatulas, get wooden handles with silicone heads.

holly jolly

My favorite things are the weather and decorations!!

So I have this large iron skillet, and no metal spatula to scrape it as I clean. So this would be great!

Thanks for the contest!

It's not the same, but this spatula follows the fish theme..

Did a bit of digging on amazon for a similar set, I'm thinking this might be it.

I think the real question is who doesn't like macarons? 'Cause I'm pretty sure everyone loves them! Some of my favorites:

  • Chocolate Ginger

  • Honey Lavander, or Honey Rosemary filling

  • Chocolate Coconut

  • Chocolate w/ Espresso Buttercream

  • Mint Macarons w/ Dark Chocolate Buttercream

  • Key Lime

  • Matcha Green Tea flavors are awesome...maybe with adzuki filling? Or just a matcha filling, YUM!

  • Strawberry Buttercream

  • Tiramisu

  • Caramel Fleur De Sel

  • Creme Brulee

  • Lemon Raspberry

  • A hibiscus filling would be delightful!

  • Lemon basil

Ok, I'm done. I have to work now! Maybe I'll add more later when my mind drifts off to hunger time!

    An item.

Thanks for the contest! Your macarons look beautiful and delicious!

First up: the key to making over easy eggs on a non-non-stick pan is butter. An enormous amount of butter. An ungodly amount. Also, I find a fish turner works better than a normal spatula. [This one specifically](Dexter-Russell Walnut Slotted Fish Turner, 6.5-Inch, Stainless Steel https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002CJNBU8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_oLRyzbJAAVYCA) was given to me by Tom Douglas, and it's my go to spatula for most non-stick applications.

Second: if you want to make scrambled eggs your preferred mode of egg consumption, watch this video of Jacques Pepine teaching how to make an omelette. Use the French style, and ignore the omelette part... because it's a near impossibility to make a decent omelette in a stainless steel pan.

Lastly: When I finally admitted that I needed a non-stick cooking option, I bought [these calphalon](Calphalon 2 Piece Classic Nonstick Fry Pan Set, Grey https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01APP1X2I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_JNRyzbBB19S1Q) teflon coated pans, and I love them. I'm just sure to only use them when I need nonstick cookware, and I store them carefully and wash them with non-abrasive cleaning products to keep them in good shape.

Hope that helps! Happy egg making!

Bonus: If you get fresh backyard chicken eggs, you could make over easy eggs on a sidewalk: the yolks are just so much for durable.

u/lolzfeminism · 1 pointr/AskCulinary

Winco 6"x3" hamburger turner: This thing is heavy and not flexible. Winco is generally great, they make no-frills heavy duty products and restaurants use them. They make different size versions of the same spatula. If you want to spend more, it looks like Amazon sells fancier brands with nicer wooden handles.

It's probably too thick for eggs, but then spatulas good for eggs are gonna be bendy and not the best for flipping meats. For that a fish turner like this woud be more appropriate.

These two both have wooden handles, meaning putting them in the washer is gonna weaken the products. If that's an issue, look for spatulas with plastic handles.
