This is a foot pedal that attaches to a crimping device of some sort. The one I have came with [this] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003HO30TE/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) a chain attaches from pedal to the base of unit, which is clamped to a work table. I know this is a poor explanation and I have not been able to locate an example.

edit: [found it] (https://www.amazon.com/Heat-Sealer-Foot-Pedal-Attachment/dp/B00O18F0N4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1484414955&sr=8-1&keywords=hand+held+heat+sealer+foot+pedal)

If you're going to do this, make sure you're using good quality freezer bags, otherwise air will just get in again.

Honestly though, an inexpensive vacuum sealer and bags run about $40. I bought both of these about a year and a half ago, and the vacuum sealer is still working great, and I've used less than half of each roll of bags.

Also if you're looking to meal prep, things like chili or soups can be frozen pretty effectively. This sauce also freezes beautifully, but freeze just the sauce, not the sauce already mixed with the pasta. You could also do mini lasagnas in disposable aluminum loaf pans, which would provide 2-4 servings each depending on your hunger levels and the size of pan you use.

Nesco Vacuum Sealer

I’ve had this one since May. It’s holding up well. $90 or so. It has delicate, moist, and double seal functions. I purchased this one after my old FoodSaver vacuum sealer crapped out after 5 years of light to moderate use. This Nesco has many more features for a better price (compared to the FoodSaver brand.

home roaster = small hand-held heat sealer, like this one

+if you go with the heat gun, just make sure your pops is using the correct type of coffee bag... i.e. paper bag vs a bi/tri-layer polyethylene bag

u/undefined0 · 5 pointsr/Homebrewing

Just a tip for canadians, this works out to roughly the same price (after shipping fees, duties, and conversion): https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0713XP8HR/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I haven't received mine yet but the reviews look good...

u/venomoose · 5 pointsr/sousvide

I used to struggle with this all the time with the foodsaver. Two things I tried:

  • Hanging the bag over the edge of the counter while sealing. This made is a little easier (not easy, just a little easier) to stop the foodsaver before it sucked up all the liquid.
  • Freezing just the liquid marinades first (not the steaks or whatever, just the liquid). I would have an ice cube tray of marinades I could add to the bag, get a decent seal, then sous vide.

I switched from a Foodsaver to a chamber vacuum sealer (actually a VacMaster VP112 Chamber Vacuum Sealer ) beacuse I got tired of trying to seal pouches with liquid in them. I know that that is an expensive option but it is an option.

When I'm halfway through a bag, I cut the top off and then use bag sealers like this:

I suppose it'd work on a new/full bag too, since there's plenty of area at the top to fold over and insert a sealer. Note I am NOT saying your complaint isn't valid, so please don't take offense. I'm just saying what I do that might help. These are pretty inexpensive, work well, and are reusable for all sorts of things KC and non-KC. Anyway, just an idea. Hope that helps.

[Edit]: The newer bags do have the velcro-ish zipper that is way better, but this tip might be good for bags that don't have that zipper, or when you're halfway through a bag.

This is a great deal on a highly rated vacuum sealer. Great for storing hops and other brewing ingredients. The product link in that post helps support hbf. Thanks in advance should you choose to use that. If not here

u/TheRealFender · 3 pointsr/Homebrewing

I bought this sealer for $28 after seeing it on homebrewfinds.com (/u/homebrewfinds)

Bought 2 pounds and the savings over buying them an ounce at a time was $26. Paid for itself immediately.

u/norcon · 3 pointsr/EatCheapAndHealthy

Chamber sealers are the expensive options. They last long, use cheaper bags and have replaceable parts.. just that it is like 600 bucks

u/HorraceMcDiel · 3 pointsr/sousvide

This seems like a good deal but I couldn't find it in the Amazon.ca site.Foodsaver Gamesaver

At least in the past the Gamesaver models had a more durable motor than the standard foodsavers.

Assuming weed is illegal in your home country - I would strongly advise against trying to bring any with you, on your person or in your luggage. Just not worth the risk.

What I would do is get a pack of edibles from a dispensary, and mail them to your address in your home country - but use a made-up name as the recipient.

vacuum seal the edibles in a bag (using something like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0713XP8HR/ref=s9_acsd_newrz_hd_bw_b4Zl2_c_x_w?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-8&pf_rd_r=M41336RTEP0D9A0QDN6G&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=a8eac2fd-7182-5b02-9a36-136566217266&pf_rd_i=1090768)

Then wash the outside of the vacuum sealed bag thoroughly with soap and water to remove the scent on the bag, but them in a padded envelope, and mail them with a made-up return address.

Depending on what device you are using b7000 with, I would highly recommend this](http://www.FoodSaver.com/ Vacuum Sealer FSFRSH0053 FreshSaver Handheld Sealing System, Red https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005FBQR38/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_SU3IDbEBA2F40)

Used the normal bags it comes with for nearly every phone I ever needed to adhere down and used the gallon. AG's for iPad minis. It honestly was a game changer.

u/fatangaboo · 3 pointsr/sousvide

I love my Gamesaver (link on amazon). Be sure to buy the mega-rolls of third party bags, they are tremendously cheaper. (example)

I'd highly recommend going up in price and getting this Nesco vacuum sealer:

https://www.amazon.com/VS-12-Deluxe-Starter-Viewing-Compact/dp/B01KCK9W1K/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=nesco&qid=1574547229&sr=8-3

It double seals, it has a locking handle instead of 2 clasps that require you to put all your body weight on it to close and it is the most consistent vacuum sealer I have used.

u/imtoooldforreddit · 2 pointsr/askscience

yup, removing the water from the air is just going to make things worse. the best is to get yourself one of these vacuum sealers. frozen foods can last for years with virtually no problems when you use one of these.

u/KirkMN · 2 pointsr/Homebrewing

I'd buy the tubing while you're at it. I have one of these jar sealers and the plastic adapter to the tubing fits perfectly, and might be tough to replicate.

The setting for wet foods on the Foodsaver will work just as was described. The sealer is supposed to suck out some of the liquid, and as with any sealer, you should try to get out as much air before you insert the bag, no matter what.

I have a FoodSaver V3460, I received this as a hand-me-down. The person who gave it to me, couldn't get it to work. As it turned out, it worked just fine, the person using it didn't put the bags all the way in the sealer for it to start working, which you should take note of.

Secondly, the trays in the FoodSaver sealers have a neoprene gasket in them. You want to make sure that after each and every use (especially if you're sealing wet food), you clean and dry that gasket. After a while if not cleaned properly, it builds up gunk, is hard to clean, and starts to compact after time and becomes worthless. It'll save you a lot of hassle and time if you just clean it in warm soapy water, rinse it off and let it air dry before putting it back into the sealer.

The sealer is loud. If you don't want to wake anyone up, I don't recommend using it.

The biggest pain, is trying to save by buying bags that aren't really pricey. Sam's Club usually has the best pricing for the large kits of bags that FoodSaver sells, ironically it's cheaper there than through FoodSaver's website. Find someone who has a membership and if they have a FoodSaver too, go in half on it and save some cash.

There are plenty of knockoff sealing bags that you can buy from Amazon or Ebay, but it's really hard to tell by the reviews what really works and what really doesn't.

Here's a serious pro tip: If the seller is on the up and up and you're uncertain as to whether you'll like the bags or not, kindly ask them for a sample of the material. Usually, you'll get a response back where the seller will send you a small piece or two to try out and see if it works right.

u/Strel0k · 2 pointsr/FulfillmentByAmazon

Ehhh... Might want to price compare before they fulfill that order: http://www.amazon.com/400mm-Impulse-Sealer-Anti-rust-Shell/dp/B00FLDEA4S

u/anma1234 · 2 pointsr/PipeTobacco

I planned on buying a couppe more. Maybe I'll keep 5 aromatics and 5 non. Per jar.

The ziploc method is intriguing. I guess I can just grab a tupperware and store the ziploc bags in the tupperware.

Is something like this better than plain ziploc. A little more heavy duty..

I wouldn't be removing any air from it though.

u/iammatt00 · 2 pointsr/Homebrewing

Just a Foodsaver and their bags. It will seal mylar, but I just use the rolls of plastic bags and have no problems. A 8" × 20' roll will package 3 lbs.

I recently bought this one and I’m liking it. I also got this roll of bags and I’m happy with it too. You can create pretty much any size bag you need. These a food grade & bpa free per the description.

u/SirArlo · 2 pointsr/sousvide

I got the rack from costco and I'm using 11" bags i got from amazon. Nothing special at all.

u/VRNerdess · 2 pointsr/CBDhempBuds

You can vacuum seal them without canning though. I use the FreshSaver handheld device and have both the regular and wide mouth jar accessories.

Amazon product #s: B005FBQR38 (handheld sealer) and B06X9F3F8W (Regular and Wide but they are available separately too)

If you already have a FoodSaver vacuum sealer, many of them already contain the hose you can use to work with the jar sealer accessories. But I still find the handheld one convenient.

Edit: Looks like it's cheaper right now to get the two jar accessories separately (B0000CFFS6 and B01M61ET1Z).

u/spit-evil-olive-tips · 2 pointsr/SeattleWA

Buy a vacuum sealer. Here's the model I have.

You can buy the big bulk "we got 14 kids" packages, then vacuum seal and freeze them in meal-size portions. Throw a bit of marinade in the bag with the pork chops or whatever, then your meal prep can be taking a bag from the freezer and letting it thaw in the fridge overnight.

If you want to get real fancy, get a sous vide machine and the vacuum sealed bags can go from your freezer straight to the water bath.

u/dragonbubbles · 2 pointsr/kratom

I like the FoodSaver brand. I had one for 7+ years and only replaced it because they came out with a "Game Saver" model that does more consecutive seals without having to rest the machine. The base model FM2000 is like $80. The base model Game Saver GM2050 is $76 right now.
Neither has the thingie to cut a bag from a roll or store the roll which wouldn't matter if you don't use it a lot. Just cut with scissors. I sprung the extra and got the GM710-000-GameSaver.

I have used other brands and they were ok. My "seal a meal" was good but not wasn't durable enough for me and the off brand I had was inconsistent at sealing.

I have used all different brands of bags and not noticed a difference so I get whatever 11x50 inch rolls are a good price. Right now I have these.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/kratom

in case you haven't already considered this, if you have a vacuum sealer, you can vac-seal mason jars with this attachment. Also needs a plastic air tube if you don't already have it. If you don't have a foodsaver type thing, internet says you can use the same attachment with a hand-held vacuum sealer like this. You can also use it by itself to vac-seal plastic bags. I have never used a handheld so I can't say for sure how good it is. You can probably also find any of that stuff at WalMart or something.

This will keep things tight for a loooong time. Jars come in colors if you're worried about light getting through the clear glass. I'd recommend wide mouth jars for dry goods because they're easier to scoop out of. I do a fuckload of cooking related things so I buy in mass quantities and store a shit-ton of stuff from flours, grains, and sugars to all kinds of dehydrated food in vac-sealed jars. Moisture would fuck any of that stuff up right quick and I have never yet had anything mold or go bad. When I moved I found some dehydrated foods that had gotten pushed to the back of the shelves and were like ten years old and still perfectly good.

Vacuum seal bags can only stand up to a few re-seals before you need to put everything into new bag and static cling becomes your new enemy. Mason jars solve the static and the humidity problems. They come in pint to half-gallon sizes so you can split your stuff up however you want. You can go into them as often as you want and easily seal them back up. Put 'em in a box, throw some paper in so they don't bang together and you're good to go. I keep a working jar filled with whatever I need for the month (which I usually don't bother vac-sealing) and I keep the excess sealed up tight separately on a shelf in the basement. Golden.

I like my solution. I took one of these...
https://www.amazon.com/FoodSaver-Automatic-Sealing-SmartSeal-Technology/dp/B001E42R8O/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1474351637&sr=8-11&keywords=food+saver+vacuum+system
and mixed my self a solutions of rubbing alchol water and food coloring.
http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Make-a-Gel-Ice-Pack/

and made them custom fit sized to fit under the dust cover of my GVR...

obviously I dont recomend anyone buying a machine just to do this but do look around as they make cheaper ones around the 50-70$ range if you thought you could use one anyways.

but for most people just go and get those small rectangle snack ziplock baggies from walmart and fill them up so they are about 3/8 of and inch thick. if you are using ziplocks i would dobl bag them to be safe alternating the direction.

i made up about a dozen of them...way more then i'd ever need, and every half hour to 45 mins i take a 5 min break walk to the freezer and pop in a new one... have never had a warning message since and dont have to worry about heat degregation of the components in my phone .... if you had to buy evy thing at the dollar tree it would cost you like 5 buucks for a dozen packs.

hopes this helps someone although i'm sure there will be some haters to ;)

I just got these and they work better than the actual foodsaver bags

If you hang the bag off of the counter, it does a much better job of not sucking the marinade into the tray. When you see the marinade climbing up into the unit, hit the "seal" button and it wont get into the machine. It's also important to consider that you need less marinade than you normally would when you are vacuum sealing

u/TheDSM · 1 pointr/sousvide

Just made the Thirteen-Minute Onsen Eggs mentioned in the Serious Eats sous vide eggs 101 blog post. I used little sandwich bags to keep the eggs in (I'm being overly careful. I was a little worried that they might break open while cooking and get egg all in the water. I'm overly paranoid about bricking my new purchase.)

They were super tasty. I like barely set whites without a hard yolk and that worked super well.

I'm using a giant stock pot (I'm guessing 20 qt.) It's a bit overkill and took a good amount of time to heat up that much water (especially when I'm just trying to cook 2 eggs.) I think I want to get a camwear storage container. Not sure what size to get.

I'm really tempted to get the FoodSaver-FSFSSL2222 apparently it's on sale today.

What kind of vacuum sealer do you have?

u/saharud1 · 1 pointr/sousvide

Yeah i got my sealer for like 50 bucks and it seals while vacuuming been working pretty well so far.

This is what we have -- I figured 4700+ reviews on Amazon was good enough for me! lol

It comes with a few pre-cut bags, and I think two rolls, but it isn't too bad. We've mostly vacuumed steaks for sous vide, and we did vacuum up an extra pork loin, and it did the job well enough!

Normally it runs for $700-$800 but I use it all the time. It is way better than a normal vaccuum sealer as it does not over heat and it handles liquids well.

Perfect for portioning different meals for the freezer. Think getting a bunch of different veggies from cost co and then mixing them together in individual bags.

Anova is good, I bought it when it came out years ago, still going strong. There's a new version coming as /u/gctep pointed out.

Also, I use this as a vacuum sealer, FoodSaver is way too expensive for the same features.

I just sear my stuff on the grill if it's going, or most likely in a cast iron on the stove.

And container is good, really anything works. I have a giant metal pot someone gave me for cooking Thanksgiving sized portions of potatoes.
