> Source: Take the Lotus 49 around the Nordschleife in iRacing.

You should read Speed Secrets and maybe Think Fast. You have a good start of an understanding, but a few things aren't quite right. While iRacing is a great sim, it's not a great source for explaining why things are happening.

> Understeer amplifies lift-off-oversteer.

Understeer does not amplify lift-off oversteer. A driver continuing to dial in steering while understeering can amplify lift-off oversteer. It's important to note the difference, as the driver can be trained to not dial in so much steering in response to understeer.

> Lift-off-oversteer is more closely tied with understeer than power oversteer in my head. It rarely happens from taking away the throttle on a neutral car that's in a set.

Lift-off oversteer absolutely can and will happen in a car that's neutral, neither understeering nor oversteering, and has taken a set. Take a Cayman in a sweeper, loaded up, set, all is stable, and is on its limit, and reduce the throttle by a hair... and the car will oversteer. That's because the mild lift caused weight transfer to the front, which reduced rear grip. Since the car was neutral and on its limit before the input changed, the rear tires were at 100% of grip. By causing weight transfer to the front, you've reduced the available grip at the rear, so the car is now at over 100% of grip in the rear. Steering input can exaggerate or minimize the car's rotation, but the loss of traction at the rear is a result of the weight transfer, not the steering input.

One needs to adjust the steering input to get the desired results when causing weight transfer. This is not specific to any particular starting state, but rather is about using understanding how the effects of different inputs work together to create the desired effect (or to create undesirable effects).

You're not crazy, but youre mistaking ability for necessity.

A webcam is nothing more than a camera. The name came about when monitor mounted and embedded cameras became common place to facilitate things like Skype. Because they were devised to be a camera to chat over the web, they got the name webcam. But they aren't functionally any different than a normal camera.

The term webcam is used to differentiate between a small mounted camera like this or this from a DSLR, video camera, disposable camera, polaroid/instant camera, infrared camera etc etc.

It's just a differentiation based on the original intent. A webcam streaming to the internet is functionally identical to that same camera streaming to your hard drive or a video camera streaming to a hard drive or magnetic tape.

And get a fucking dashcam! For all those people (hopefully in the minority on this sub) that don't yet have one. Viofo A119 is like $89, way cheaper than any insurance issues you'll have

I uploaded a video the other day and left my SD card at home. The next morning when I went to work my A119 was chirping at me the entire way to warn me I didn't have a card installed. Of course on my way home I had some asshole run a red light and missed me by about a foot. I have like a 2 mile drive home and nearly got T-boned.

Buy a fucking dashcam, check it regularly to make sure it works. A118, A119, G1W-C or whatever the newest model is. It'll save you so much headache in the long run.

u/Qlanger · 2 pointsr/Roadcam

No; regular ones are made for light usage and not as durable to heat.

High endurance gives up a little performance but can handle more writing and heat better. This is a good one...

Yep, it really helps. For my g1wc I'm using a Polaroid 37mm CPL with a 34-37mm step up filter. I used some duct tape to get it to stay on since I didn't have glue. There's some YouTube Vids on it if anyone wants visuals but its pretty straight forward. Once on, turn the cpl until you see reflections decrease then just leave it alone.

>On-board diagnostics, a self-diagnosis system built into cars

Go and click your own link. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On-board_diagnostics No where on that page even mentions ODB.

>Or how about looking at the tools. https://www.amazon.com/Automotive-ODB-OBD-OBD2-OBDII/dp/B00MDKNPLG

Wow, the url has ODB, that's to capture any people searching for an obd scanner who think the term is interchangeable. Good find, a no-name brand sold by unknown.

Here's what you get when you search ODB scanner on Amazon. It autocorrects it to OBD scanner and gives the results. https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=odb+scanner

I'll jump in since I recently picked up a sub 50 cam plus card. Pretty OK quality, see my recent video here, taken with it

Hey! It's the [Viofo A119] (https://www.amazon.com/Viofo-Camera-Degree-miniUSB-Adapter/dp/B01HVWNFF6) and it's been a solid dashcam over the past three years. I believe they've released an updated model since then but it's capable of doing 1080p @ 60FPS or 1440p @ 30FPS

u/lildobe · 2 pointsr/Roadcam

I'm late to the party, but I always reccomend this card for dashcams:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00V5Q1K3O

I've got them in both of my cameras, and one of them runs 24/7, and I haven't had a problem in over a year now.

u/PromQueenSlayer · 4 pointsr/Roadcam

You were not kidding! Amazon lists it as $389 with just the cameras, not including the battery.

Considering the image quality and how low profile and discreet the cameras are, it's not too bad, plus the wifi and 128GB sd support makes it reasonable.

I bought this.

I already started the refund process with amazon.

Glove box, if you are tall enough to reliably reach it.

There are also various retention mounts you can get and a fix somewhere within reach. This window breaker has one included, but there are also generic types available elsewhere.

I have the Anker C1 dash cam. I can connect to it via WiFi on the app.

They're all teens, so probably some program AAA did that had parents install both a dashcam and cabin cam to monitor the driving habits of teens. They also appear to have G-Sensors monitoring the vehicle, to show hard braking and/or crashes.

Edit: One thing I didn't think about, there are also dual-camera dashcams that record the road and the cabin in a single unit. You could also simply get a dual-channel (dual-camera) system and mount the second camera in the cabin facing back instead of in the rear window.

And stupidly ends your life.

But to answer the title of the video, THIS is why you use a dashcam. They are not even that expensive. My cam is this A119 after it was recommended on /r/dashcam, though now they have an updated version. Also for front and rear cam the A129 Pro Duo just came out and it is in 4k video. WIll likely put that in my wifes car in a month or two.

u/salarite · 4 pointsr/Roadcam

I'm curious, do you not have folding emergency warning triangles in the US as a legally required car accessory?

I've never seen them put up in videos like this, but at least in most of Europe you are legally required to put one up asap after an accident.

u/mikeyBikely · 2 pointsr/Roadcam

I was disappointed with my horn (I can barely hear it) so I upgraded.

>Anyone know what trail this is?

Seasonal use roads (Or as I refer to them as RINOs: Roads in name Only) are all over New York. Most of them are on DEC property but others are owned by the local government.

Pick up the Gazateer and pay attention to the secondary roads on the map. No, Google Maps isn't good enough, as I have found it to be wildly inaccurate when it comes to these types of roads.

u/UncleNorman · 1 pointr/Roadcam

I use this one and the high tone one and they are loud as hell.

So yea, you're simply wrong that ODB isn't used or doesn't mean the same so yea, they ARE used interchangeably... Just because Ol Dirty Bastard uses the abbreviation, doesn't mean other things don't as well.
