ok...the install was a bit complicated due to the fact that these cards have vrms on 2 sides of the board. the vrm that are near the IO end of the pcb are very close to some resistors, making it very difficult to find heatsinks that can fit in the narrow gap.

for the vram and the majority of the vrm, I used this: https://www.amazon.com/Cosmos-Copper-Cooling-Heatsinks-cooler/dp/B00637X42A

for the vrm in the narrow lane, I was able to use this old aluminum heatsink I had for my AMD 290 when I had the kraken on that. I do not know if they make it anymore, but it was a perfect fit. the plate of the long aluminum sink was skinny enough to fit on top the vrm without being blocked by the nearby resistors.

I used an old thermal pad (fujipoly...which seems a lot more sticker than phobia, which was very oily, but maybe because the phobia was new and unused...now that I think of it maybe the phobia would've worked well too if I heated it and evaporated the oils) on the bottom of that aluminum heatsink and then used seksui thermal tape to attach it to the card, and secure it even more with zipties (though this was an extreme precaution).

I also used seksui thermal tape on the copper heatsinks as well, even though the heatsinks come with an adhesive. In the past, no tape was strong enough to hold the weight of the heatsink, except for the seksui tape, which has very strong adhesive and great thermal properties.

This is the aluminum heatsink (I just used the long piece): https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835426042

This entire problem existed because it was not possible to mount the g12 bracket and retain the pcb plate which would've acted as a heatsink for the vrm near the IO end of the card. Later I realized I could've used my old g10 bracket and just gotten longer screws, and retain the pcb plate.

You can also avoid this issue by going to a local electronics store, or measuring the gap (once you have your card), and find a narrow heatsink that fits. I used my aluminum one because I had it stored away, on hand.

I also ended up buying a pci fan bracket, to cool the vrm on the far left of the card (near IO board, where aluminum heatsink is.

Here is a close up photo of where the aluminum heatsink is. you can also see the low profile ram heatsinks perfectly clear the water block. https://imgur.com/gMwQGu3

Here is a summary picture of everything I just said:

Yeah, and the G1 is $620 on amazon and has been $580 which is a pretty good buy.
I don't know of anyone who would recommend the Zotac AMP even for it's price.
Anyways you were comparing more expensive 1080 models which really aren't worth the extra cost when almost all 1080 Pascal chips can hit >2Ghz (the G1 can hit over 2Ghz even on a single 8-pin power connector). The MSI Gaming models were notoriously overpriced at some point but have come down a bit but it should be pointed out that the Armor edition (that's comparable in price the G1 on that note) shares the same PCB as the Gaming models. The Strix has been priced high for long enough but it's nice to see those come down a bit. Let's not even mention the FTW cards.
I'd personally pay 10 dollars more and get the SuperNOVA 750 G2, but only because I've made good experiences with it. The GS should be an excellent choice too, and the price is also good. The G2 series is based on the Super Flower Leadex platform, while the GS series is based on a Sea Sonic platform. Both are well-known for their reliability.
I would pass on that LG, the resolution isn't going to push your 2080ti much at all. If you're set on ultra-wide, I'd go with this instead This might be (totally is) the best ultra-wide monitor on the planet. Pricey but its simply stunning.
Personally, I don't think ultra-wide is worth it. If you think you can go without it, and would love to save yourself a few hundred dollars, check out this monitor... 1440p 165hz, it is incredible
I want to get a 1060 6gb, which of these 3 do you think I should get? I don't really care what it looks like, an am a complete nab when it comes to the differences. Running one 1080 monitor. I want to spend around 260. I currently have x2 EVGA 570s, so it'll be a huge upgrade. Thanks in advance reddit. Feel free to suggest something else, too.

Asus VG248QE is a great monitor if you just want 1080p 144hz. There's no point in spending more than $200-$250 on a 1080p monitor. If you want something bigger, curved, 1440p or with freesync/g-sync let me know I can recommend another.
I just picked up a curved AOC 32" 1440p 144hz 1ms for $329 to pair with my 2070 Super. Amazing monitor for an amazing price.
Hi guys,
I am in the market for a new GPU, currently am rocking dual GTX 960's on a 1440p monitor so am finding it quite hard to play a variety of games at the settings I wish. My lust for card right now is the Xtreme Waterforce edition Gigabyte is launching. But, I am in the UK and saw the Gigabyte G1 Gaming edition on Amazon for £560 and snapped that up straight away but haven't heard the slighest regarding shipping date. My question is, in your guys opinion, do I stick with the G1 that I bought? Or upgrade to the Waterforce? Considering that I want as much power as I can get (have saved so budget is flexible) and also I dont want audible noise above speakers (my dual 960's whine like no before). I made the mistake of getting two 960's over a 970 before and dont want to make a mistake with a GPU again so any info would be great. Thanks!
INFO: The Waterforce is £750 on pre-order: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/gigabyte-geforce-gtx-1080-xtreme-waterforce-8192mb-gddr5x-pci-express-graphics-card-gv-n1080xtreme-gx-185-gi.html
The G1 was £560 on some sort of order too: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01GCAW1IA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I put a Kraken x41/g10 setup on a EVGA 1080 SC after buying and being disappointed by the MSI 1080 Seahawk X. Since these cards don't overclock worth a damn I did it entirely for silence and couldn't be happier. I just set the fans/pump to a fixed 25% and the card doesn't exceed 60c.
OP, you should consider VRM heatsinks. They aren't necessary, but they do help significantly. Most VRMs are spec'd for up to 125C, and they most definitely will hit that under full OC'd load even with the g10 fan helping out. I also have an x41/g10 installed on a 290x and that card would peg VRM1 and VRM2 temps at 125C partway through a run of Valley benchmark with the g10 but no heatsinks. Not liking the idea of 125C ambient case temps, I stuck some VRM and VRAM sinks on the card. Even with a 20% overclock and significant overvoltage, the VRM never break 85c. The 290x is a hotter card than a 1080, but the principal is still the same - those VRMs will get very hot and cause your case ambient temps to skyrocket.
I used these and these on the VRM and these on the VRAM. $25 in heatsinks to extend the longevity of a $700 GPU and to significantly drop case temps seemed like a good investment to me.
I've actually been researching this quite a bit lately but there doesn't seem to be tons of information out there. I think it depends on what current cooling solution the card has. Some cards have a heat spreader across the VRMs that can be left on under the G10 but the 670 FTW doesn't appear that way. The 670 FTW's heat spreader looks like it probably has to come off for the G10 to fit on.
I'm not sure what other people are using but I'd probably get these unless I heard otherwise:
http://www.amazon.com/Cosmos-Copper-Cooling-Heatsinks-cooler/dp/B00637X42A/
Are you running a 2080ti with the G12? I do really want to try and keep the PCB baseplate on there and it's pretty difficult to find confirmed information on whether or not it's compatible. If not, I can always order more of the copper passive heat sinks I already have. Would be even better if I can find a white G12 and mix with another white 360mm cooler setup like I have for my CPU.
I really appreciate your input, definitely helped me make up my mind.
I bought a 1060 on Tuesday and got it on Thursday from Amazon. I used the free prime trial to get free shipping. This is the one I bought. https://www.amazon.com/ZOTAC-GeForce-Compact-Graphics-ZT-P10600A-10L/dp/B01IA9FEOO/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1478308491 The AMP version is factory overclocked.
Despite being half the size it's a full 1060. At first I thought it was a cut down version, but benchmarks show it gets the same performance as the stock version. http://www.computershopper.com/components/reviews/zotac-geforce-gtx-1060-mini-6gb
I thought maybe it has high heat. I had Skyrim Special Edition maxed out at 1920x1080 getting 60 FPS (locked framerate by the game) and MSI Afterburner showed it sitting between 40 C and 50 C. At idle it's currently 32 C, or 89 degrees in freedom units.
There is clicking at very particular RPMs, but only at low speeds, not sure what's up with that. I used MSI Afterburner's fan curve setter thingy so it won't go lower than 50% and there' no clicking but it's still very quiet. My case fans are louder than it, probably means I need quieter case fans. My old 280X was a vacuum cleaner in comparison!
You should check on Amazon right now then.
EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 SC GAMING ACX 3.0, 8GB GDDR5, LED, DX12 OSD Support (PXOC) Graphics Card 08G-P4-6173-KR https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GX5YWAO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_iFZoyb0KJCHS7
That's a pretty good price for a 1070 today. Unless you really only care about a specific look that is.
Hi Guys, I brought a Nvidia GTX 1080 Gaming X 8GB in Sept last year for £520 in the UK, from Amazon:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01GELBO1C/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I see that this is around £650-£700 to buy now at other retailers but it has limited availability.
Just wondering if the price has shot up or are people spending £500 on better cards instead?
How much can I realistically sell this for second hand on Ebay? And should I do that considering new cards from Nvidia are coming out soon? thanks.
I ordered one of these on Amazon - $12.99

FSLabs Graphics Card GPU Brace Support, Video Card Sag Holder Bracket, Anodized Aerospace Aluminum
Don’t have my card to use it yet but it looks really well made and like it will add a lot of support.
Does your monitor support full 4K 60hz 4:4:4? If yes, does your EVGA sport a mini DP or DP port? At least 1.2?
For my previous laptop, I had to use a 1.2 display port to HDMI 2.0 active dongle.
I recommend this Club3D one, as it has worked for me for both 4k 60hz RGB full and YCbCr444.

My friend uses this and it works really well. 1080p and 144hz, looks great.
Yeah I play sc2 again recently.
Good, I ended up picking https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GAI6478/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

On Amazon there is a choice between an 1835 boost and 1936 boost, a $60 difference. Don't all the 1080s boost in the 2000-2100 range? Why pay the extra money?

If you have stock 980 Ti's or can get ahold of stock coolers you can do what I did
http://i.imgur.com/yuyyRia.jpg
Those EVGA kits work with reference cards, but they do require the reference bracket and blower fan to keep the card cool, you don't "need" them but it will look kinda ghetto without it.
The kit is $60 on Amazon, will work with any stock blower on any reference 980 Ti or Titan X.

I'm not too familiar with add-in-board cards, but I talked to someone from my WoW guild and they talked me through it. Is this a pretty decent choice?

Was just looking to make sure the price I mentioned was accurate.
Still $386 at Amazon... if you dont mind filling out a $20 rebate.
Buying from Amazon though... you know they will have your back if anything goes wrong.
I bought an EVGA 1070 FTW from them back in mid august and they offered me a full refund when I contacted them a few days ago about this fiasco. That, is good customer service since I was out of the 30 day refund window.
Both cards may throttle cause both coolers are meh. You could buy gtx 2080 or make an abomination cooler by removing shroud from blower card and slaping 2 good 120mm fans using zipties and connecting them to GPU using adaptor and fan splitter. Or use something like this https://www.amazon.com/ARCTIC-Accelero-Efficient-VRM-Cooling-DCACO-V800001-GBA01/dp/B00HHMJIIO/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1549976848&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=gpu+heatsink&dpPl=1&dpID=419l%2BFY-hpL&ref=plSrch&dpPl=1&dpID=419l%2BFY-hpL&ref=plSrch
I have a MSI 1060 3gb card and wanted to know if a 144 hz monitor is worth the investment? I was looking at this monitor. I plan on playing Destiny 2 when it comes out mostly. Thanks!
Hey OP, is this the one you bought?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00HHMJIIO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_TA4xzbMZQKFFX
I've been thinking about getting a GPU cooler, but was turned off by the tricky install. For only £45 it seems like a worthy investment.
It is,

I do advise you buy a 144Hz monitor if you're spending all that money on a 1080 ti though, the $204 one from amazon is a great buy.

Wasn't looking at launch to be honest. Just recently I've been debating buying one. But they are in stock here. For example Amazon apparently has 13 left in stock.
EDIT: Make that 10. But the point stands thats just amazon. Theres Ebuyer, Scan, Overclockers etc to account for too.

Amazon one includes the fan (or looks to according to the description?) or are you talking about a different fan
This is the US Amazon price for a 1080 and this is the India Amazon price for a 1080.
Undoubtedly you can find a FE much cheaper than on Amazon but that's besides the point the author of the article tries to make. He said that the products listed on Amazon India are overpriced, naturally you have to compared them to the US Amazon prices, not Newegg.
If you're tight on money, no. It's a nice feature to have, but its really just icing on the cake.
Go for a nice medium priced 144/120hz monitor. The frames are still buttery smooth, even without the G-Sync.
The Asus VG248QE and Ben Q version seem to both be decent purchases.
Yeah, good call. You may want to wait just a little for the aftermarket 1080 cards to drop with improved coolers and factory OC.
Last June I had an itchy trigger finger and bought a reference 980ti at launch. Fortunately, EVGA makes a hybrid cooler for the reference card, which I installed a couple months later. Under load, the cooler keeps the card at 40 degrees with a 1.4 GHz overclock. Keep an eye out, because EVGA may release one for the 1080 or you can buy the card with the hybrid cooler already installed. Just need some space to mount the radiator.

Is there really a difference between GTX 1080s? I saw This One for $559 after sale and rebate vs. This One for $620 after rebate. That seems like a pretty large difference. I can see that their core clock speeds are different but can the first one be manually overclocked seeing as it's an "overclocked" version already? Or is that the max clock it's going to get? Why the large price difference?

Also pretty sure all of the founder's editions text light up but I think they're green only (or yellow? can't remember)
In contrary to popular belief, the PC performance issues in both Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Origins aren’t caused by DRM techniques, but by a way too conservative resource ceiling for textures.
“It has a much too conservative resource ceiling for textures”, says SpecialK “The engine loads, then unloads and later reloads the same assets hundreds of thousands of times over the course of an hour. All the while, VRAM is only ever 25% filled on my GTX 1080 Ti and none of that nonsense is necessary.”

You can see the comments on his Github repo.
I have the same PC and getting ready to do same. What version of the video card did you use?
Found this one on Amazon for $249

I wonder if buying through Amazon would help: https://www.amazon.com/ARCTIC-Accelero-Efficient-VRM-Cooling-DCACO-V800001-GBA01/dp/B00HHMJIIO
It's loud and it will hit thermal limit (83º) quite often under heavy load. I had an Aero 1070 OC, used it for a year and with some undervolting and a more aggressive fan curve i managed to keep it mostly under 70º while gaming. The only problem was that having the case literally next to my head, the noise was kinda annoying so i ended up selling it and getting a Strix.
If you wanted to get an aftermarket cooler, the Arctic Accelero Xtreme IV and Raijintek Morpheus II are the best air cooling options. If you wanted to go water, the Aero uses the FE's PCB so any FE compatible AIO like the EVGA ones will work.

I found this on Craigslist for $375. I'm assuming this would be a good purchase?
See if this is on sale in your country. It's considerably cheaper in the US for prime members today. I know it's TN, but there is an IPS version available. Plus you can also use color profiles which make my VG248QE look like an IPS.

You should be able to display 4k@60hz over DP 1.2 using the Club3D adapter assuming your TV supports it:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017BQ8I54/
It works fine with my 390 and Hisense H8C. Lighter/older games get 60fps no problem at 4k. Just make sure you have a good HDMI cable, I had a cheap one laying around and it kept cutting out.
This doesn't apply to their sellers though.
Just look at the price hike on June 8th for the Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 on Amazon UK.
Why are there so many bad reviews ? https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-GAMING-Graphic-08G-P4-6173-KR/dp/B01GX5YWAO/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1467817446&sr=1-1&keywords=evga+gtx+1070
Okay, I do not care about 4k, because I can not understand how people can play games with less than 60 fps.
Here you go:(amazon.com/gp/product/B01GXOX3SW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

Well, Evga made 6 models of RTX 2070 and some look exactly the same, besides of different ports.
You could go with HDMI 2.0 to Displayport adapter, if your monitor gives you a HDMI 2.0 signal: https://www.amazon.com/Club3D-Displayport-1-2-HDMI-CAC-1070/dp/B017BQ8I54

I'm not sure about any other than Strix that have at least 2 HMDI but a DisplayPort to HDMI is $12 on Amazon right now so that might work.

That's coo' EVGA makes good power supplies. I have this one in my system: https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-SuperNOVA-Modular-Warranty-220-G2-0750-XR/dp/B00IKDETOW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1491428771&sr=8-1&keywords=evga+supernova+750 I've no issues with it and it's cheaper than the one you linked to.

Thanks for the info! I already have a GPU bracket from amazon (this one: https://www.amazon.com/CloverTale-Aerospace-Upgraded-Version-Black/dp/B077LGLN4G/) installed. Probably unnecessary for my current card (a Gigabyte 1070) but I plan to re-use it when I install the new one, whichever card I end up going with. I used to only get EVGA cards but I heard bad things about their 10 series line; I've only heard good things about the 20 series though.

How difficult was it setting up the hybrid cooler? Would you recommend it? You said you got the 980ti one, so this one?

That price is quite absurd, though.
Edit Actually, looking at other vendors too, it seems to be around 835~ Euro which contains the 25% VAT. Seems "fine" then, if a bit gouged.
this is the fastest i could find in your price range:

Grab the Asus ROG 1080 if you have a VR setup. One of the few cards that give you 2x HDMI 2x DP ports as opposed to the standard 1x HDMI 3x DP. Also includes an RGB LED that allows you to colorize it by temperature.
It's quite the beast of a card, though. Barely fits a mid-ATX case.
I have this brace. It's less noticeable than the product pics make it seem and helped fix my 1080 Strix sag. Cheap too.
slam dunk for a factory overclocked 1070 in that range, a 1080 is going to be nearly 700 dollars for most of them. a card like this is a good option
https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GAMING-GTX-1070-8G/dp/B01GXOX3SW/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1478381880&sr=1-2

I heard they were shipping on the 17th not sure how accurate that is but its what I pre-ordered.
This card being more expensive than the FE as stated in the review is not true in every case.
In Spain 1080 FE cards retail for 779euro while the MSI 1080 Gaming X is listed in Amazon.es at 758. Deliveries start at the end of the month.
https://www.amazon.es/gp/product/B01GELBO1C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I already ordered one :D
You can also just skip the adapter and get this cable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004C9P9TM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Hw.pzb1V4SSS4 I have been using for over a year now, no issues
Bad idea, too random and most adapters will be crap.
If op has a vive, he can use displayport for vr and hdmi for his monitor. Just needs to buy a male displayport to male mini display port cable.
If OP has a rift, then he needs two hdmi, so he should use the hdmi on the card for the rift and get a displayport to hdmi adapter for the monitor.
If his monitor supports hdmi 2.0, he needs this.
If his monitor is hdmi 1.4 or lower he needs this. A key for an hdmi 1.4 or lower adapter is that it states "eyefinity" this tells you it is an active adapter and thus will work in all situations. Cheaper passive adapters will not work in all displayports, they only work if the video card handles the active timing for the port, not all ports support this.
I ordered the EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 SC GAMING ACX from Amazon USA for 968AUD delivered. No ETA yet. If the Asus one goes up close to that price locally before it ships I'll cancel. But im not counting my chickens.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GAI6478/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_nRGtxbVMRKQ38
Yeah, take it from me. I bought a https://www.amazon.com/Swift-PG278QR-G-SYNC-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B01N4ENDXR/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1551053364&sr=8-1 thinking the same thing. Amazing monitor, but G-Sync was just a negative experience for me in almost every situation.
Also, "features" scrolls endlessly. Screenshot above
EDIT: Welp, just as I'm done typing this it fixes itself. I guess the servers went down? Either way, shadowplay is fixed now.
Yeah that was the downside for me, too. I don't play VR much but is is a bit annoying. Maybe get a DP -> HDMI cable (like this one on Amazon) and use that for your monitor?
I had the same thing happen to me with my 2 year old corsair 750w when I got an r9 fury for sale last month.Don't get another corsair. Get this Evga instead https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00IKDETOW/ref=sxts1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481349206&sr=1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65
If the high quality of this doesn't surprise you at least the 10 year warranty it has should.
GPU sag really bad, buy a GPU bracket. I was thinking of buying one, I may have to.
