Logitech G500 or Logitech MX 518 There's also a less expensive plastic model. (It's the one I use, got it for about $35 on sale) But I couldn't find it.

u/chetoflep · 10 pointsr/gamingpc

I just got the G500 and I absolutely love it. I moved to it from an mx518, same feel but customized weight.

As a G500 owner who couldn't be happier, I have to counter your anecdotal misfortune with the actual numbers:

Definitely go with the mouse unless your keyboard is malfunctioning. Gaming keyboards are useful to have sometimes but not essential like a decent gaming mouse. Just make sure that the mouse you buy works well with how you play, the type of grip you use, palm or claw/fingertip.

In short, you either palm the mouse with your entire hand, moving your arm to move the mouse, or you "claw" it, grabbing it with your finger tips and moving it just with your wrist. Knowing which grip you prefer and getting a mouse that fits it well goes a long way to eliminate wrist pain and fatigue.

Personally, I claw grip and use the CM Storm Spawn. Best mouse I've ever used for my style of play due to its small size and design. (So good I bought a second one for my laptop.) It goes up to 3500 DPI but IMO the 1800 DPI preset is perfect for most all games. If I need more precision I take it down to the 800 DPI preset and if I need more look speed (i.e. BF3 vehicles) I go up to the 3500 DPI preset.

Other good options are the G500 and the Deathadder , both of which many people swear by. They're better for palm grip IMO though due to their size.

TL;DR Go with the mouse and pick one that fits your hand and style of play well.

The MX518 is no longer made and can be tough to find (though it is in stock at Amazon right now). Logitech just came out with the G400 to replace it. It's very similar in size, shape, and button layout with an improved sensor. I have a G5 and just recently bought a G500, they're both great. I wrestled between the G400 and the G500, but went with the G500 because it has adjustable sens, adjustable weight, and a laser sensor.

Also, don't forget about a good mouse pad! A good pad will improve your game at least as much as a good mouse. I have a Razer eXactMat (which is now tough to find) and a SteelSeries 4HD. I prefer the Razer, because it's aluminum and two-sided, but the SteelSeries does the job for half the cost.

Logitech G500: Probably one of the most top rated mice you can fine. Good grip, buttons and the speed/reaction of this mouse isn't too bad at all. You can find better but for the money it's a great deal. - Logitech G500

Razer Deathadder: Personally...I like this mouse over the G500 and I'm not the biggest of Razer fan either. This mouse absolutely rocks it for the price. It's more of a Mouse's Mouse, there isn't a ton going on, you have a very good scroll wheel and two functions right where your thumb rests. If you want buttons and all kinds of other stuff look elsewhere, this mouse rocks for what it is. - Razer Deathadder

SteelSeries Xai: It /may/ almost push out the Deathadder as top mouse at a very good mouse. StealSeries I feel delivers some of the best peripherals around, they feel amazing, act great and look equally as "plain" (not flashy) but still have eye candy. The Xai has a color changing LCD in the back to change the colors of the Insignia on the back...if that's your thing. - SteelSeries Xai

Out of all of those, it's hard for me not to recommend the Deathadder. I believe (I forgot to double check the stats) but the DPI is higher for the DA than any of the other mice I listed here and it feels great in your hand.

On to the next thing: Mouse Pad. I almost feel like I'm in the minority when I say that I need a good pad for my mice. Right now I am using a Cyborg RAT 7 with a Kabuto Razer Gaming Pad. It's a bit expensive, but I used this pad with my Deathadder that I had before my RAT 7 and it worked flawlessly with it. I tried it without it and you can see a noticeable difference. However for about the same price, you can get a SteelSeries QcK+ Pad which are quite nice as well (and if you are a person for brand synchronicity, you can get this one with the Xai).

However, no matter what myself or anyone else says: Pick the right mouse for you, we cannot judge what feel good to you. Mice are a hard buy, because recommendations only work if the person who loves it has the same hand structure as you...and normally it doesn't. Some of these things can be found at Best Buy and other brick stores, so if you get a chance go out and try out every mouse you can and find one that works for you before you decide on a specific one.

This is my set up, full time. I game with a 360 controller or with Nostromo N52 (not razer), Logitech G500, and Logitech K400 keyboard/trackpad on an approx 2'x3' wood board on my recliner.

It makes a world of a difference in your reaction times. You can't really PvP without it and even some raid encounters will get you killed if you can't turn and move fast enough, not to mention blow critical cooldowns, depending on your class.

____

There are suggestions in this thread to use numbers for your main abilities. Do. Not.

Place your hand on a keyboard, like you normally do in FPS games - fingers on WASD controls. Those are movement keys (if you were using arrow keys instead). Now, what are the other most comfortable keys in your immediate reach with left hand, without leaving the WASD?

QERFC, Tab and Caps Lock. Whatever keybinds are on those keys by default, throw them away (or move them to other, less valuable keys) and assign your main abilities to these buttons. It will not be enough. Feel around with your left hand again. 1234, T and G keys are still quite comfortable to reach. Bind them to your secondary abilities, which are still very important to access quickly, but you don't spam them all the time.

You are a hunter, so I will tell you right away - even that will not be enough to keybind all important stuff. Alright, let's use modifiers - SHIFT, ALT and CTRL. Game accepts all combinations of modifiers + regular keys. You can have your Bestial Wrath set to SHIFT + Q, for example. Instantly accessible, yet out of the way, no chance to accidentally set it off. CTRL+Q could be an order for your pet to attack, CTRL+SHIFT+Q to aply Hunters Mark, start autoattacking and send your pet at the same time (by macro), ALT+Q to set it your pet to passive or used for its special abilities, like Spirit Heal or something. You get the point. And that's using only Q key. The possibilities, right?

That will cover most of the important stuff. If you would ask how to cover all the important stuff, I would tell you to order the G500, reassign its custom keys to F5-F12 and then use those keys in WoW to basically create another keyboard under your right hand.

___

Baby steps, if you weren't using WASD, try that first. Assign your first few abilities, try it out. If you like it, try the rest of my suggestions. Gaming mouse is optional, just like keybinding itself. It will work without it, but it would be so much better with it.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002J9GDXI

Don't know if it's the exact same but both labelled G500.

u/nliu · 3 pointsr/buildapcsales

Daskeyboard has a black friday sale going on right now, you get a bunch of free stuff (tshirt, key sets) This is the first keyboard from them that I've bought, but I've heard that their quality is unmatched. A few of my friends have them, they're amazing.

Amazon has the g500 on sale right now for only 35 bucks, I'd also highly recommend that. Fantastic mouse, great for gaming.

u/CAW4 · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace

The Logitech G500 is a good choice; it works well, has a good texture, and has three thumb buttons. If you change your dpi, it has two button for that, if you stick with one dpi like me then you have two more buttons.

u/Kart0ffel · 3 pointsr/Planetside

Something I've learned after playing this for two years:

  1. Find out the "flow" of the base. By flow, figure out where most players will be and position your self accordingly that will put you in a good place (be mindful of cover if you're infantry)

  2. Try to limit 1v1's vs a heavy if you can. You will more than likely lose.

  3. As with 2, try to always break the line of sight with the enemy. If they can't see you, they can't shoot you.

  4. A good mouse + mouse pad will make a world of difference. I use a Logitech G500 and this Steel series mouse pad.

  5. ALWAYS be mindful of the mini map in the bottom left. If you're playing with a competent team, they should always be putting down darts, radar, etc. will generally let you know where the enemy is located.

  6. Get your self a good pair of head phones. Sound plays a critical role in this game as well.

  7. This website is great for fine tuning your mouse.

  8. Try not to hold down the mouse button when trying to kill people (there are exceptions to the rule of course. Extreme CQC, SMG's and shot guns are what come to mind). Accuracy + head shots is what will get you quick kills.

  9. Try to get a "feel" for the recoil of weapons. That way, you'll get a handle of the COF and the recoil pattern.

    Good luck out there.

> I already give up on using the scroll wheel on sites

This is part of why I buy mice which have a non-clicky setting on their scrollwheel. Just a little flick of the finger and that fucker keeps scrolling for the next 30 seconds on its own. :)

u/starwarsian · 2 pointsr/gaming

It's an older but excellent mouse. http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-G500-Programmable-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B002J9GDXI able to deal with a lot of abuse, highly programmable, good reactivity. 5 DPS settings. its a great mouse.

u/Rithe · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Mine lasted many years too but eventually failed. The G400 is the spiritual successor and is the one I bought. I have tried many other mice and prefer that style. I would definitely recommend

There is also the G400S which I think just looks different but I didn't research it. There is the G500 but I owned this one for awhile and did not like the texture on it.

There are other brands but I'm a huge fan of this style so while I've tried others, I always come back

u/dancemasterv · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I'm currently using this one. It's a great mouse and it goes on sale pretty often. I highly recommend it!

u/freshmas · 2 pointsr/pcgaming

I returned mine. It felt cheap and gimmicky, especially for the price. I went with a Logitech G500. Don't fall for the customization hype if all you want is a solid, well-designed mouse.

u/OhNoItsGodzirrah · 2 pointsr/computers

Depends on what you mean by budget. Personally, a budget mouse is anything under $50, but then I use my mouse a lot. I'd say the G300 if you're looking super-low budget, otherwise the G500 is the next step up. I'd go with basically anything in Logitech's line up, simply because they've always had great gaming mice.

u/agustusmanningcocke · 2 pointsr/tall

I've got a 10" span from pinky tip to thumb tip, and I guess I use the claw grip. I probably could benefit from a larger mouse, but I've had the same series of mice since high school, and I'm 27 now. While I'm not sure you can find the Logitech G5 anywhere in stores right now, there are a few places online you can get one. That series did go through a few changes, and while I'm not a huge fan of everything they've got on their store now, the Logitech G500 has and is serving me very well. I should note this is my third mouse from this line - the first one lasted all the way from freshman year of high school into senior year of college, the second one I had for a year and gave to a friend, the third and current one was a gift to myself in 2013. So far, so good! Amazon link if you're interested in seeing it, went for $70 bucks when I got it.

Edit: sorry, after looking at pictures, I'm definitely palm by default, but I think claw when playing shooters.

Mice

  • Logitech G500 Programmable Gaming Mouse $57.39, probably the best bet for reliability and gaming functionality. I have 2 of these on different computers.

  • Logitech Corded Mouse (M500)$28.79

I can't personally recommend any Razer mice though I'm using a Razer Tron mouse at the moment. Every Razer mouse I've had, has had issues with the left mouse button randomly double clicking.

Keyboards, you can get away with a lot in the keyboard department as they all do pretty much the same thing. Here's a couple of options.

  • Logitech Keyboard K120 $11.97 It's just a standard keyboard, no bells no whistles. Not designed for gaming but will work fine for any game.
  • Microsoft SideWinder X4 Keyboard $47.70, Microsoft has been known to make the odd good keyboard here and there. This is so far as I know, one of them.
  • Logitech Gaming Keyboard G105 Call of Duty: MW3 Edition $64.99, Entry level gaming keyboard with programmable keys. If you can get past the Call of Duty branding on this device it'd probably be a pretty good keyboard for you and the programmable keys would work with any game.
  • Logitech Gaming Keyboard G110 $69.99, For $5 more you can get a game agnostic gaming keyboard with 12 programmable keys.
  • Logitech Gaming Keyboard G510 $99.67, Now you enter the realm of on keyboard displayed, these work pretty good for a lot of games. A friend of mine has one of these and it's served him very well. I've never seen the point of an on keyboard display as I've never used the one I've got for anything.

EDIT: I accidentally the whole description of a product.

Logitech g500

I've been using it for a few months and i can highly recommend it. Very good design, feel and customization in terms of buttons.

u/DublinBen · 2 pointsr/buildapc

You shouldn't compare to drastically different priced cards. I would recommend this MSI 6950 for $240 which will easily best the 560 ti.

You're right to suspect that you can't use cards from different generations together.

That is a solid PSU at a really good price.

You might consider the G500 mouse instead.

Yep, it's programmable, but there were some cases in Windows Vista that when they programmed a button to do a certain thing, it did both that certain thing, and the default thing (Sorry, don't know how to say it)

u/rmehranfar · 1 pointr/buildapc

I, personally, would go with the G400. it's the upgraded and current version of the MX 518 which is still regarded as a great mouse even despite its age. I personally use a G5 which is getting a little old but still works great after all these years. If you want a great gaming mouse that will last you many years of constant use then go with the G400. Also, I know it's out of your price range, but the G500 would be the next step up.

EDIT: I must also point out that I am partial to these mice that I have listed because I really like the way they feel in my hand because of their shape and size. You need to think about the way that you grip your mouse and what you think will feel best in your hand. If you can, try to go to a store that has at least some of them in stock to feel them yourself. With that in mind, a very large number of people regard these mice as great and comfortable mice to use as you can see from the positive reviews.

i5 3470. It's a good CPU at 3.2ghz and the best non overclock CPU that I know of.

But do you really need a $4000 computer?
It seems like you don't really need a lot of the parts. Like do you really need a 850W PSU? Just go for a good 550-600 W PSU and save like $100 on that.

Also, if you're gonna pay $90ish for a standard keyboard, why not just pay a little extra for a mechanical?

g500 is $42 on amazon if you didn't know.

But if you're sure about not overclocking, maybe you should also consider non overclocking mobo as well.

For mice I would suggest the g500. I have one I would recommend it. For keyboards, if you dont have a spending limit then I would suggest getting a mechanical keyboard. It would be a good idea to go to a store to try out the different keyswitches or borrow them from friends to find the one you like most. I have the cm storm quickfire stealth with cherry mx blue switches. I would recommend it if you want a keyboard with a small footprint, but the absence of a numberpad might be a problem.

[G500] (http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-G500-Programmable-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B002J9GDXI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376081082&sr=8-1&keywords=G500) I really like it bc you can adjust the weight of the mouse via some weights underneath and it also has 10 programmable keys. Oh the scroll lock/unlock is a nice feature as well.

I'm kind of confused. You are spending $2100+ on a computer, yet you want inexpensive suggestions for the two peripherals you will have the most contact with? You should look for a quality keyboard and mouse combo considering you will be using both frequently.

Personally, I would suggest the Corsair Vengeance K60 for your keyboard and the Logitech G500 for the mouse. I use both and love them. Of course you can go cheaper, but why? Spend a little bit extra and get something that you'll love.

u/mc_nibbles · 1 pointr/buildapc

Depends on what you need in a mouse.

If you're looking for a regular gaming mouse with decent DPI, you can go super cheap and get decent DPI compaired to a regular mouse, but not any super build quality. You can Go a small step up with a budget name brand mouse, which will have slightly better build quality. Then you can jump up to a Decent gaming mouse which has high DPI and good build quality, or this one as an alternative.

If you are an MMO gamer and want side buttons, there aren't many budget options, but the Razer Nagga MMOG 2014 Or the Logitech G600.

I have peronsally used all levels of gaming mice, and still use a super cheap wireless gaming mouse with my laptop, and I use an original Razer Naga MMOG on my desktop. I like them both, though I don't expect my cheap wireless one to last long, it still performs extremely well for the price.

Keep in mind these are just suggestions, Other people might like/disklike these mice for there own personal reasons. I peronally like the ergonomics of the Razer mice over any other.

I have this mouse and personally would not recommend it to anyone because of the offset sensor. Look at the bottom of the mouse in the pictures here to see what I mean.

And if you have an Amazon Prime account, you can pick it up for a few bucks cheaper + 2-day shipping + no sales tax if you happen to unfortunately be in a state where newegg charges sales tax.

My brother and I, as well as a number of our friends, use a Logitech G500. It's very reliable, easy to program/use, and is quite sturdy.

Mouse: Logitech G500

Keyboard: Razer Widow Ultimate

Keypad: Razer Nostromo Keypad

Monitor: Some monitor I got with a prebuilt HP a couple years ago. Scrapped the PC but kept the monitor. Hoping to purchase a set of Monitors but not quite sure what to get. Recommendations?

Also, if you want to keep it under 1000, you can add a Hyper 212 Plus, and upgrade your peripherals (Leopold Keyboard and G500

I've heard nothing but good about the deathadder and the naga. The naga is great for the sheer fact of its size and the number of buttons. Price wise the naga is about 75 bucks after shipping and the Deathadder is about 55. Both go for the allegiance to razer and are around 75.

IF you're willing to stray from razer I personally have the logitech mx518. I've had it for years and it's one of the best mice I've ever had the chance of holding. It works well for large hands and has most all of the same buttons as that of the death adder. It's been replaced with the g500 which also had weight control (something neither razers have). It too runs around 50 or so dollars.

This is just a small suggestion based on preference since your build looks great and there is nothing that I would change, but I have owned the Razer Deathadder and I own the Logitech G500 right now. I like the G500 much better than I did my Deathadder. The G500 has many more features, it has a customizable weight, it's laser instead of optical which means that it is much more precise, it has adjustable DPI with a three level DPI switch on the mouse itself, it saves a ton of profiles that you can switch back and forth between for any game and it has a braided cord, which in my experience is really helpful with the longevity of the mouse all for $10 less than the Deathadder 2013. There is also the G700 which has all of that plus 13 programmable buttons and can switch between wireless and wired if you want to for $3 less than the Deathadder. Here are the links to each one:

EDIT: Just realized that you had Vengeance RAM with a D14, that RAM exceeds the D14's height clearance. You are gonna need RAM that is shorter than 44mm tall, here is a nice set of Patriot Viper 3 RAM. It's lower profile with the same voltage, speed, and it still looks pretty nice.

i have a g500 that i'd be willing to sell.

i used it for a week, then ended up getting a wireless mouse instead.

Personally, I would like to use a palm grip but I always end up with the claw... I have ~20cm long hands (middle finger to middle of palm) and use a Logitech G500 and would, if I ever have the chance, pick a bigger mouse next time.

u/LogitechG_Christina · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

If you're looking for a super-accurate mouse for FPS gaming, the G400s (MSRP 49.99 pounds) or G100s (34.99) are great. G300 (34.99 is a good ambidextrous, general gaming mouse.

If you're looking for a mouse that's slightly older but still awesome, the G500s and G500 might be right up your alley if your budget is tight. Look around your favorite sites for them (I used the US Amazon pages so you can get an idea on the specs). I've used the G500 for years, and the adjustable weights, on-mouse DPI shifting and the programmable buttons are all great.

The wide range of DPIs and tuning to various surfaces are G502-only traits.

What sort of gaming do you do? What would you like to get out of your new mouse?

Buying a gaming mouse is all dependent on what you are playing. RTS? FPS? RPG? MMORPG? There are different things about each mouse that tailors to a certain type of game. On-the-fly DPI switching is mostly for RTS or FPS games. Also, gaming mice are more geared towards the super high DPI ~5000. Even then, if you aren't that competitive, I would stick with a regular $5-10 laser mouse. As long as it's accurate, it shouldn't matter. Just turn up the sensitivity in control panel->mouse. If you are going to be serious, then maybe you should save up more serious money. Personally I have a G9x, but I also really like the G500.

(pasted from a previous comment on this)

Prices are approximate and gained from quick looks at Apple.com and Newegg.com, as well as prior research on the subject prior to purchasing my iMac.

  • 27" 2560x1440 screen - $1000
  • i7-2600 - $300
  • 12GB RAM - $80
  • Webcam - $20
  • Speakers - $50
  • 2TB HDD - $200
  • 6850 desktop card - $150
  • Mobo - $200
  • Network adapter - $30
  • Wireless card - $30
  • Optical drive - $20
  • Keyboard - $40
  • Mouse - $20 (basic mouse, not my personal preference, I use a g500, but we're pricing an rough match to Apple, although to stay true to the original the mouse budget would be closer to $50)
  • Case + power supply - $100 (roughly ~$100, I just randomly picked one that looked good, not going for super high end or cheapest possible one)
  • Windows - $130

    TOTAL: $2370

    Apple:

  • iMac 27"
  • i7-2600
  • 12GB RAM (4GB default + 8GB aftermarket)
  • 6970M, which is roughly equal to the 6850.
  • 2TB HDD
  • Etc etc

(when I bought it, I got a educational discount and a $100 gift card, so I saved $100 alone with the GC, but the extra RAM was like $75, so I ended up saving net of $25 from the GC, as well as free RAM)

    TOTAL: $2304 - $25 = $2279

Now, this was just a quick and dirty estimate, but the iMac was around the same price. I'm not denying that Apple is overpriced, I'm just saying not everything they sell is overpriced. And yeah, some PC components I over/under shot on the price, it's a rough estimate with about the same hardware.

As far as the mouse goes I have the logitech g500 and I love it!

u/Dubzil · 1 pointr/gaming

I use a logitec g500 mouse, it's pretty good, but for MMOs I really loved the Razer Naga for all of the extra buttons.

Keyboard wise, I would go mechanical, it'll cost you probably $100, but it's worth it. you will want to research mechanical and get the right kind of switch for what you prefer.

u/Spythe · 1 pointr/WildStar

Logitech G500, I used a few mouses but I just love this one even have a back up. It just works for me, I suggest finding a mouse you like and getting comfortable with it.

My Logitech G500 is dying. I know of the G500s, but should I look into the G502? They all feel good to me and are a good size, but I use the fingertip grip.

Wow, okay. I find the deathadder really small, different strokes I guess. The only other one I could think of is the Logitech G500

This is the mouse I use for gaming.

The buttons on the top can adjust the sensitivity on the fly.

Cant imagine how they aren't superior for aiming.

u/rhapsodicink · -1 pointsr/buildapc

Why wouldn't you get the G500 for the same price? Besides that, good build.
