What? A bedroom door that locks from the outside? Did your parents not understand which way round to put he lock and inadvertently create a fire death trap, or did they just keep you locked up sometimes?

[Edit: for any parent considering reversing a lock, check this out first. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MXBLOSG/ They can be opened from either side by anyone tall enough to reach the top of the door. Perfect to keep the kids away from the Tide Pods!]

Summer Infant Babble Band Wearable Audio Monitor https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016Q0YY9U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_JBqQBb0CNZ04J

I think this would be great for you, if you're sleeping. The bracelet will vibrate when the monitor is alerted by your baby.

It's a faucet extender (so little kids can reach the water when washing their hands). Like the other poster said, the brand is Prince Lionheart.

Battery used was. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B071CJM52Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . All I did was remove the cable end pin from the battery and attached it to the head of the original battery pin head. You don't have to worry about using the middle wire. All you need is red (+) wire and black (-) wire.

After terrible twos comes threenagers. It’s like two’s, but they have intent. It’s equally maddening.

Is she starting preschool this fall? If so, that may help a lot. Our preschool worked a lot on patience and taking turns talking, and it showed at home pretty quickly. It won’t get better overnight, but it’ll help.

There’s a parenting strategy called Love & Logic that worked well for us. It sounds like you’re doing many of the core ideas, but it there may be some helpful tips on methods you haven’t tried yet that may click better for her. It also helps differentiate between behaviors that are good (green light), annoyances (yellow light), and dangerous acts like hitting (red light), and scaling your response appropriately so she gets it.

Specifically on the sink spraying, consider something like this:

Faucet Extender

It brings the water out closer but also lowers the pressure, so she’ll have less opportunity to spray it everywhere.

Last, if you feel like you’re just done with her shit, see if there’s any way you can get away for a night or two with just the wife before the new baby arrives. I realize not everyone has easy options for this, but it can be a huge mental recharge if you can arrange it.

Best wishes, hang in there!

I'm going to use a Foscam. It's like $60 dollars and as long as you change the administrator account/password it works amazingly.

I babysat my friends 6 month old a lot overnight and he wasn't a very good sleep through the night baby. I would feed him and make sure his diaper was changed, rock him a little to get him sleepy, and then set him in his crib. As soon as he hit the mattress he was cry. The monitor also helped to see if when he let out a small cry, if he was just stirring and would go back to sleep or if he was really awake.

I personally prefer the foscam because then you can get an app that will alert you if the sound level goes above a certain point on your cell phone. So you aren't strapped to a baby monitor and have to rely on it's battery life. It has fantastic low light vision too so when you turn the light off you can still see baby without any issue. It has a zoom/pan feature and you can talk over it as well. You can also record video too!

The foscam also has a feature that even if you aren't at home, you can still check on baby via the monitor on your app or on a website that the camera 'broadcasts' too. Don't worry you need a username/password to access this as well. And as long as you change that stuff to strong passwords, your camera won't get hacked.

If you don't want to use the 'broadcast' feature, the range on it is as long as you are within range of your wifi!

This is the one my friend had. My parents have it as well for home intrusion and I have one now for my nursery.

Edit: Although I've heard great things about the Anglecare Monitor. It's 50 bucks without the breathing pad. I really like the built in 'nightlight' on the baby unit.

Edit 2: The Philips Avent Monitor has great reviews and is just slightly more expensive at $75.

Summer Infant Babble Band Wearable Audio Monitor https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016Q0YY9U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_at8VCbCFTD3ZZ

Obligatory disclaimer is that we have never used this when our kid is in the same room as us so YMMV

u/Hannavasrae · 4 pointsr/Septemberbumpers2017

Hmm, we also have a large dog (100lbs) who will be sleeping in the room with us. DD will be sleeping in a pack n play at first which is pretty large and sturdy and just a bit taller than the pup is so I haven't been too concerned, the pack n play will also be beside me which is on the other side of the room from where pup sleeps.

Could you use half of the play yard to just surround it on one side? (not sure if that makes sense) Or something like this?

Edit: Also no judgement for wanting your doggies in the room with you. Our dog gets really stressed out being separated from us, so its best for all of us for him to sleep in the room with us. The kitties on the other hand, they got kicked out of the bedroom when we found out I was pregnant so they could get used to it :) lol.

u/kosmotron · 4 pointsr/Parenting

This is probably not unique to our baby monitor, but ours has visual feedback (blue lights indicating how loud it is in the baby's room), and also it vibrates when it detects a cry (not once but every few seconds when there is crying). It's quite accurate in detecting. It also tells you on the screen whether the lullaby music is playing.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00E9RMHD8/pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70

It's not a video monitor which many people seem to use these days (we find it a bit over the top for us), but if you do want video then hopefully there is one with these features.

We got a gate that allows angle mount. This one.

http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B002CGRT1S

Up to 30degree angle.

u/Kryssa · 3 pointsr/HomeImprovement

You can mount the sides of this type of baby gate on either side of the window. Any teen/adult could climb over in case of a fire. If you really wanted to be safe, you could even unlatch the gate door to make your fire exit clear if it needed to be used.

u/Coomassie_blue · 3 pointsr/Parenting

I used these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004CEN62O/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_G88Vub0ES4TK3

They basically clamp around your round or square posts and provide a surface to screw in a hardware-mount gate (like this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006UMUB92/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_na9Vub02GH9CV). I found them to be extremely sturdy and relatively easy to install.

u/dnd1980 · 3 pointsr/RandomActsOfPolish

I have two of these but need a third. I have a different third one but it don't work for shit. So I currently have to constantly move one from living room to kitchen if I go into a different room. So I may end up mounting them, just not sure yet.

u/signalsoldier77 · 3 pointsr/whatisthisthing

This is correct. I just installed the exact gate that uses this latch two days ago.

One bag of fruit snacks each, one bowl of pop corn each, spill-proof cup of some usually-forbidden sweet drink. Turn on annoying movie that only kids like.

"Okay, Mom and Dad need to have a meeting. We will be out in a bit. Just watch the movie. Stay in your chairs."

Close door. Lock door with child-proof door top-lock.

Canoodle, too-quickly but better-than-not-ever.

Usually good for about 11 minutes, sometimes stretched to 19 or 22 minutes.

u/kiky23 · 3 pointsr/breakingmom

It was an illegally mounted outlet on the side of their kitchen island. :/ [Have you thought about one of those glass barriers like this for your stove?] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00005BX4Z/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1451505916&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=stove+guard&dpPl=1&dpID=41pr2L8ZcYL&ref=plSrch) At my own house I just have our whole kitchen gated off. Our kitchen has cabinets from the 50s and you can't baby proof them so I've had to make the entire room baby free

u/BlueberryFaerie · 3 pointsr/beyondthebump

I think 10 months is too little to really understand why you won't let him play with the most fun thing in the world. I mean really, gas stoves are the best toy you could ever have! :) j/k obviously. They do make covers for the knobs so he can't turn them and locks for the oven. They also have guards for the burners. Would be totally annoying for you guys, but at least you wouldn't have to gate him off as much? Maybe if you bought him a play stove and put it in the kitchen and make a big deal about how great it is? Not sure if he would fall for it.

You’ll want to install it through the lower panel, putting it through the bottom beam of the door will compromise it structurally.

If that won’t work for your pet, you might consider one of these options:

u/Kr_Treefrog2 · 3 pointsr/AnimalsBeingDerps

You could try a baby gate with a pet door. It helps keep kids contained while letting pets come and go as they please. I did end up using a zip tie around the pet door to keep it from opening too wide as toddlers try to follow the kitties through the little door.

Infant Ear Muffs:
http://www.amazon.com/Baby-Banz-Baby-Girls-Newborn-Protection/dp/B007BEIKGO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1409770530&sr=8-1&keywords=infant+headphones

Infants are used to noise, just FYI - so I wouldn't worry about making it dead silent for her to sleep. I would just sit as far away from the band as possible and put on the muffs. Newborns do alot of sleeping in their car seats and/or in Ergo carriers, etc.

As for feeling guilt about not being "thankful enough" - let that go!! You are full of hormones and it is completely natural to lament big changes. It does not mean you won't love the stuffing out of that little girl when she arrives. I am pregnant with twins myself, and I find myself very cranky that I've progressed so quickly and cannot get done the things I thought I could before their arrival. That's what these forums are for, to get out raw emotions and be supported. We have all been there.

u/bedlamunicorn · 3 pointsr/beyondthebump

Could you use this one?. It is 76 inches. You could also use the Kallax if you wanted, a couple inches isn’t going to make a huge difference since it’s not like a baby is going to fit through a couple inch gap.

I wish I remembered the brand that we have. I think it might be a Regalo, because it looks a lot like this, but with a little cat door at the bottom.

The one piece of advice I would give is absolutely do no buy one like this. Those little holes will become footholds for a little one to climb over. Everyone I've known who has gotten something like that has had to replace it as soon as their child figured out how easy they are to climb. Stick with the vertical slats only - no horizontal bars except at the top and bottom.

[This ](Prince Lionheart Stove Guard https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00005BX4Z/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_.M3RCb0DBAP4D) Is the exact one we have. The negative reviews seem to be mostly about the sticky tape, so I went with 3M foam double stick squares and they’ve been working fine. I would also recommend a baby monitor, specifically this one. My kids are upstairs and on the other end of my house. The monitor works as a walkie talky on the handset, and if something should happen and she can't get to a walkie talkie, it will pick up her voice.

This is the one we have. It can only be screwed into the wall, however. The ease of allowing our child to open it himself or having the ability to not let him open it has far surpassed the necessity to putty the walls when we are done with it.

I've had this model for almost two years now. I recommend it, as well!

Just as an FYI, when the battery starts die early despite having just been charged, the quick fix is to disconnect the battery for a couple minutes and then reconnect.

When that technique stops working, it's finally time to replace the battery. I've had good luck so far with an aftermarket battery that also has increased capacity.

We use one in certain situations with our 2.5 year old. We live in an area with no sidewalks (boo!) and blind spots where people park etc. We go without it as much as we can, but anywhere we would hold his hand for a distance, we use his little lead. It's also come in VERY handy travelling through airports. Here's what we have: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N2G22HB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_ELm0BbHZDV4AZ.

This has worked really well for us as a gentle reminder for him to stay close to us, so it's probably not the best for your situation since your child is much younger. I thought it may be useful for someone though.

These have been a godsend for when my nephews come over, they're pretty clever little kids and can get past most stuff but these they literally just can't reach.

u/MeowSterling · 1 pointr/CatAdvice

Oh, this is a tough one... I was going to suggest keeping something heavy next to the door so your cat can't push it, but if it opens inwards then you won't be able to place a box inside while you're outside. The only things I can think of are electronic/wifi enabled locks or asking your landlord for permission to change the lock. It'll probably cost money, though.

Edit: Actually! I decided to Google "child proof front door" and found some options! Most allow you to unlock it front either side of the door. You might consider this one, which will require you to drill it into the door frame. Also, the door must be 1 3/8 inches big! So double check it's not too big. There are other options too, just Google it.

Mom here. We use the Nest and also this Philips AVENT audio monitor: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00E9RMHD8/ref=pd_aw_sim_75_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=M2A6TCN60A4J2MA9J8TM

Happy with both of our choices!

I know everyone judges the parents that have their kids on leashes, but I've seriously considered getting one of these for overly-crowded places. Emmett is a really good listener and doesn't run off, but from what I've watched that doesn't matter! Plus now that I have a second child it's hard to give them both my undivided attention and I have to let go of his hand every once in a while. Such a scary world :'(

I bought these they weren’t exactly easy to install but once I figured out the guide to line them up snapped on, it became much easier. Great thing about them is they have a switch on them so you don’t have to keep them locked if you’re going to be in and out while cooking. As long as you put the magnetic key out of reach the little won’t be able to open it.

I have two of these. I know it isn't pressure mounted like you wanted, but it's a good inexpensive option. We have a VERY open floorplan, and we didn't want to break the bank. Some of the reviews will say they are rickety, and yes they kid can shake them because they aren't pressure mounted, but I've never felt like she could break them and hurt herself. We wanted pressure mounted too, but I'm just not sure you can do it that way with that wide of a space?

u/jriejroie · 1 pointr/Buyingforbaby

It is really good. I was originally skeptical when my husband ordered it because of the price. We first had this one for the kids' playroom which is also good. But the difference is really huge. With the former, you don't have to struggle to close the gate. You just slam it behind you and it is shut. You do not notice the inconvenience of having to open and close a gate whenever you go up and down. We justified the price because we were planning to have more kids. We got it when we had our first.

u/jhonotan1 · 1 pointr/beyondthebump

You are getting so much validation here, which is awesome, but I want to share two stories...

The first one happened when I was in the parking lot at the grocery store. I was sending a text before I left, and I heard screaming coming from the entrance. I immediately freaked out, looked, and saw that it was a kid. He was maybe 4 or 5, and running full stop through the parking lot, not looking anywhere. His mother and grandmother were trailing behind him by about 20 feet just yelling at him to stop (not even attempting to keep up). By the time mom and grandma got to the car, this kid had made about 10 laps around it, and then decided it wasn't time to go yet...so his mom chased him around the vicinity of their car for another minute or two (yelling at him the whole time). Then, a huge truck goes to pull into the spot next to them right as this kid comes around the front of the car, so the other driver had no idea he was there. I honked and flashed my headlights, mom and grandma screamed, and this kid almost got ran over by a lifted Ford F350 with off-road tires. I mean, he missed the kid by literally 18 inches.

My other story is sad, but short. My co-worker's nephew was killed last year at 18 months old because his parents turned away for literally 2 seconds. They were loading groceries in the car, he bolted and ran right behind a car that was backing up.

So, don't ever question a safety precaution because you think someone will judge you. Trust your gut, because you know your kid better than anyone else, and if there's ANY chance that they'll run, leash 'em up! If you want to feel a little less conspicuous, you could try this product. We plan on getting one for our 3 year old once his sister arrives, and he's not even a runner and does great holding hands. I just don't want to risk being distracted with the baby and have something happen.
