/u/BigOleBallsack - I would get neither. With a $5000 budget, unless you need to take still photos, I recommend an interchangeable lens Super 35 camcorder instead.

By the time you buy ND filters, an XLR audio solution with decent preamps and rigging (e.g., a top handle) to compensate for the GH5's or the A7s II's still camera ergonomics - you might as well buy a real video camera.

In your price range, I recommend a [$2595 Super 35 4K JVC LS300] (https://www.amazon.com/JVC-GY-LS300CHU-Ultra-Camcorder-Handle/dp/B00USBVISE/ref=as_li_ss_tl?m=A17MC6HOH9AVE6&s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1487897950&linkCode=ll1&tag=battleforthew-20) with a [$399 Metabones Canon to micro 4/3 autofocusing adapter] (https://www.amazon.com/Metabones-Smart-Adapter-Thirds-Camera/dp/B014C1BF7O//ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=battleforthew-20) and something like a [$799 Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 lens] (https://www.amazon.com/Sigma-18-35mm-F1-8-Lens-Canon/dp/B00DBL0NLQ//ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=battleforthew-20).

The LS300 has these features that still cameras lack:

Get one of the 1000 lumen led “tactical” flashlights on amazon for like $12. example
You need the fancy batteries and the recharger. Not as bright on the AAAs

Get this mount

If your hiking light is bright like 800+ lumens and the batteries are rechargeable and fresh try getting a Velcro strap and attaching it tightly to your helmet.

Send me the $400 I just saved you

I think the term you're looking for is wireless transmission, not streaming.

Streaming implies encoded video is sent over the internet to a streaming server (usually via RTSP or RTMP.)

What you want to do is wirelessly transmit your video to your computer, yes?

If you want to stream to the internet, like Facebook live, YouTube live, Livestream, Ustream, Twitch etc. then you need either a camera that had built-in functionality to do that, or a separate video encoder.

A lot of JVC cameras have built-in web streaming, requiring only a WiFi or LTE dongle. The $5,495 JVC GY-HM660, the [$2595 4K JVC GY-LS300] (https://www.amazon.com/JVC-GY-LS300CHU-Ultra-Camcorder-Handle/dp/B00USBVISE/ref=sr_1_1?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1486961846&sr=1-1&keywords=jvc+ls300) and the $1,700 GY-HM200 all have this feature. (beat that /u/hybridcamrev!)

If you're looking to wirelessly transmit the video to your computer, Teradek has you covered. The Bolt is a transmitter and receiver pair that takes SDI or HDMI signals, and can transmit up to 2000 ft.

The Cube is an encoder, but the stream can be viewed by something like VLC or OBS. You can also use it to broadcast directly to any of those online platforms.

The VidiU is an encoder that connects to those platforms directly, through a variety of network connections (wired, WiFi, and cell.)

Hi evilmonkey - the new [$298 Sony Music Video Recorder] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EVIBMR2/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00EVIBMR2&linkCode=as2&tag=battleforthew-20) might be what you're looking for.

Here are some examples of what it can do: https://www.youtube.com/user/MVRbySony/videos

It doesn't have a zoom lens, so it's good for small venues - but not so good for big concerts.

Another option would be the [$387 (on sale) Panasonic FZ200] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008MB6ZX0/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B008MB6ZX0&linkCode=as2&tag=battleforthew-20), with its 24x constant f2.8 zoom and 2.5mm external mic jack.

Here is my FZ150 (the FZ200's older brother) with an external mic and a [$2 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000QU3JN4/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000QU3JN4&linkCode=as2&tag=battleforthew-20): https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/p4I1G-p5nraBO7lfPcPFNcMeX8oU9O2UHnPDiRshn9E=w815-h543-no

The FZ200 is [not that much larger than the EOS M] (http://camerasize.com/compare/#349,351), and there's no way you'll get a 24x constant f2.8 lens for the EOS M for a reasonable amount of money.

Even with its internal mic, the FZ200 sounds pretty good at concerts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PkFNogHwiQ

With an external mic, you will get even better results. Here it is with the [$229 Rode Videomic Pro] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004K8WPUQ/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B004K8WPUQ&linkCode=as2&tag=battleforthew-20): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uQRJohR0lA

If the camera plus the Videomic Pro is too expensive, you might want to look at the smaller [$99 Videomic Go] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GQDORA4/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00GQDORA4&linkCode=as2&tag=battleforthew-20).

Hope this is helpful,

Bill

u/HybridCameraRevoluti · 2 pointsr/videography

Hi /u/the_devils_bff - if you want a camera that records great internal audio without external mics, you may want to consider the [$298 Sony Music Video Recorder] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EVIBMR2/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00EVIBMR2&linkCode=as2&tag=battleforthew-20). It is a fixed lens camera with a single wide angle focal length (that means no zoom), but it records clear High Definition (HD) video and clear, high quality sound.

Here is what this camera can do with its on-board "XY" stereo mics:

http://youtu.be/W8wVPMioib4

http://youtu.be/1qVfu8qjRqk

http://youtu.be/9DgFfp85Ebs

Sadly, most cameras don't have internal audio recording this good, so you either have to buy an external microphone or an external recorder.

Hope that's helpful - good luck!

I ended up getting a JVC Adixion action camera here and a suction cup mount (this one) and a 32 gig card with a cigarette lighter power adapter. The camera was 179 when I got it, but it looks like it's gone up a tad. Either way, the picture is pretty good and you could also use it for other stuff along with using it as a dash cam.

I went for a Mini Meet last Sunday and made this:

A lot of the cheaper mirrorless cameras won't work well, since they'll have limitations to how long they can recorder. So yes, in this case, getting a camcorder would be the best solution.

One that comes to mind is the Panasonic HC-VX981K 4K Camcorder [referral link]. That'll cost you $647.99, which leaves some budget for a tripod if you don't have one, and a large enough SD card to keep your footage on. Panasonic's cameras are known for their excellent video quality and image stabilization, which you'll get with this camera. It will shoot 4K video at 24 frames per second, and record continuously for hours as long as you keep it connected to power and use a large enough SD card. Since the video records in 4K, you'll also be able to zoom in digitally afterwards, especially if you're only releasing a video in 1080p, without too much loss in quality.

Nice painting, and good luck with your videos!

You might take a look at handy cams in the HDR-CX line, particularly the HDR-CX440 which is $300, and it's cousin with a built-in projector HDR-PJ440. They do full 1080p@60FPS recording and it has a good 60x optical zoom. I have the previous generation, the CX330, which I used to record this 2-hour walking safari. The CX440 should be about the same.

Right at the $500 mark is the HDR-CX675, but it's specifications are so similar to that of the CX440 that I'm not sure it's worth the difference. If you wanted much better quality than the CX/PJ series, then look at Sony's FDR-AX series of high-end consumer camcorders and see if you can find a good bargain. You might be able to find a new, older generation mode of a camcorders on this page for $500.

Panasonic has some compelling options in the $400-500 range as well.

So lets say that I have one of these and one of these... who wants to try an experiment?

u/lunaticfish · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

Looking for a recommendation on a decent dash cam kit for my bike (something like this https://www.amazon.com/Blueskysea-Motorcycle-Recording-Recorder-Motorbike/dp/B075FR7R3W)

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with these kind of setups and could point me in the right direction? Haven't been able to find too much info online about them.

Ideally I'm looking for a bit of kit with front and back cameras that are permanently mounted, and can record at least 4 hours of footage from both. It'd be nice if I could find one where the screen doesn't need to be attached for it to record as well as I'd rather something that passively records whenever the bike is on and I can just pull the vids if I need them...

Cheers!

u/DrKenshin · 2 pointsr/gadgets

Sure, HERE is an Amazon link for the one I own and can vouch for. There is also a newer WiFi version which is basically the same thing plus wifi, although I've never used it considering the battery life on mine I think unless you really, really need to be able to frame your shots with your phone or something then save yourself the money and get the wifi-less one.

Granted, this is the "top of the line" for the Polaroid action cam's there is even cheaper ones with lesser specs to be had for really very cheap.

Hey there. I posted in the last weekly thread about needing a camera to record seminars for our organization (recording a large projected screen and the presenter in the same image, from about 40-50 feet away in dim lighting for at least an hour at a time) I got some good recommendations for DSLR style cameras but I think a camcorder would be better suited to our needs-mainly because of recording length and the fact that none of us are skilled videographers/photographers. I've gone through and looked at the newest options from Sony, Panasonic and Canon and I've divided them up by price because we still don't know how much we'll be able to spend on this. So I've split them up into "Around $500", "Around $1000" and "Around $2000+" I was wondering if someone could take a look at my picks and help me narrow it down to one or two options per price point

$500 | $1000 | $2000+
------|--------|-------
$547 - Panasonic HC-V800K | $897 - Panasonic HC-WXF1K | $1997 - Panasonic HC-X1000
$347 - Panasonic HC-W580K | $998 - Sony AX53 4K Handycam (FDR-AX53) | $2697 - Panasonic HC-X1
$498 - Sony CX675 Handycam (HDR-CX675) | $1299 - Canon XA11 Camcorder | $4149 - Sony AX1 4K Professional HandyCam (FDR-AX1)
$349 - Canon VIXIA HF R82 | $1099 - Canon VIXIA HF G50 | $1898 - Sony AX700 4K Expert HandyCam (FDR-AX700)
| | $3199 - Canon XF405 UHD Camcorder

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer

The Canon XA35 is an older camera that really isn't worth it these days. You can get much better cameras for the price. Something like this one might be more worth your time: link.

u/OldHob · 1 pointr/Filmmakers

You can easily find a 1080 camera for less than $100 on Amazon. But I would recommend a camcorder instead of a webcam because a camcorder is more portable and convenient.

Try this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CZ3WXYX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_vTz9BbK4BQ8J2

>Best seat covers?

Get permaplate option, this will cover external and interior. Enjoy the seats without seat covers, I did put a seat cover so the baby car seat was on the cover.

>Best dash cams?

I really want this dash cam Blackvue DR590, saving up for one.

>Charging cable ok in weather?

I have been doing research on Chargepoint level 2 home charger. Its weather proof and if you install the 220v 32A version you can charge your car in 2 hours.

>Battery efficiency on the highway?

I only had my Prius Prime for a week now, hybrid works well. Drive in B mode and plan out your trips so you can charge at your destination. For example, we started to go to Target because they have a Chargepoint station. We shop for about 2 hours and by the time we get back to the car is fully charged. We can do all of our shopping using EV only.

>Toyota service centers only?

I got the extended maintenance plan so yes for me only Toyota service.

>Get that extended warranty or no?

I got the 7 year extended maintenance because I already know how much the dealer ship will charge for normal maintenance. I just want to have the peace of mind knowing everything is covered and did not want to deal is any issues. Plus if you get it during purchase I believe its at a bigger discount. Because I sign up for it the dealer ship gave me LoJack for free and 72 month financing 0 APR.

>Any reassurance that I made the right choice not waiting for the 2018?

I was thinking the something, at the moment you have a big advantage because they are trying to sell off the rest of the 2017 to make room for the 2018 models. I want to say you have more power to haggle, for example I was able to get 72 month 0 APR financing, free LoJack and $3000 off the asking price because I mention the local special and because I was prior military.

Additional accessories:
Black License Plate Frame
Auto Document Case
Neck Pillow
No Rinse Wash & Wax

Congratulation on the new car!

Hi, yes audacity is good software :)

how did you record the sound? if it was a microphone built in to a laptop/smartphone then I agree you'll get a clearer sound with an external mic, alternatively I can recommend a Zoom Q2n (I'm really happy with it) but unfortunately they're not super cheap

I honestly love ordering with amazon since they have a very good and quick return policy.

If you want to do it all through a computer, a good quality webcam like a Logitech C920. You can then use any DirectShow compatible software to record the video straight onto your PC, such as Windows Movie maker, VLC, etc. Combine it with a set of CFLs to light you up, and you'll get pretty decent quality video assuming that you've already got an audio recording setup.

If you don't have a good quality audio recording setup, another solution that would be really easy to work with would be the Sony HDR-MV1. It doesn't have wifi, but you can just sync the stuff off it using a regular USB cable; and since the audio and video would be synchronised out of the camera it will save you time when you're editing.

Just bought a polaroid xs100i off of amazon. Check it out here http://www.amazon.com/Polaroid-XS100i-Waterproof-Mounting-Included/dp/B00F46UQ4K/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1407804168&sr=1-1&keywords=polaroid+xs100i

Works great comes with both bike and helmet mounts does FHD @1080p 30 frames a sec or HD @ 720p 60 frames per second allowing for HD . Also does 16 mega pixel shots in single shot, burst or time lapse all for 1/2 the price of a go pro. I've used both mounts and like them both. I'm using it on my daily commute and will be using it on trails. Love it.

I haven't decided.myself yet, but one option I'm looking at is the JVC cams. They're well priced and featured and get good reviews. I think they will also do continuous recording - deleting the oldest footage when the card is full so its always recording.

The cheaper one is on sale on Amazon right now for a good price: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008PEEZSQ?pc_redir=1404881620&robot_redir=1

I am currently looking for a 4k video camera in the price range of roughly 1.000 Euro. So far I found these 2:

Sony FDRAX53/B

https://www.amazon.com/Sony-FDRAX53-Video-Recording-Camcorder/dp/B01950TCEU/

PANASONIC HC-WXF991K

https://www.amazon.com/PANASONIC-HC-WXF991K-Cinema-Like-Camcorder-DICOMAR/

Are they recommendable? Which one is better? Or would I be better off with something entirely different? I definitely need an optical stabilizer. Goal is to create videos for a small TV channel.

u/davidguydude · 1 pointr/drums

I'd avoid the air-lift thrones unless you can sneakily ask if he likes them (people either love or hate the bounciness of air-lift thrones).

A tune-bot could be a cool gift too! Probably the best drum tuning tool there is.

A Zoom video recorder might be a very neat and useful gift. I use an older one, but I'm seriously coveting the newer Q2N. I find these type of recorders very useful, and the Zooms do a good job of capturing drum sound. Here's a demo with Weckl
