Once my battery goes out, I'm going to look at options like this or an extended replacement internal battery. Even if that means breaking the seal and losing the water protection.

The extra bulk won't bother me. Beats having a fugly camera slapped into the middle of my screen

At a minimum I'll have it the next three years. Hoping for possibly five. No sense in shelling out $1k every two years for minimal upgrades. I don't do that for laptops. I've gone Galaxy S > Galaxy S4 > Galaxy S9+ thus far.

I have the Z2 Force with the Incipio battery pack with wireless charging (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LBGYTNU/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me). I can easily go two days without charging. Charging either via the type-c cable or wirelessly will always charge the phone's battery first and then the battery pack. This one will charge the battery pack wirelessly if it is removed from the phone first and placed on a charging pad.

The pack can be configured one of two ways: keep the phone charged at 100%, or at 80% to be more battery efficient and conservative.

I keep mine at the 80% since it is better for the life of the battery. If I charge my phone above 80%, it's battery will be used solely until it reaches 80%, then the battery pack kicks in too keep it at 80% until the pack dies.

I’ve had mine since November of last year (so pretty much a 1 year ownership review). Battery life is amazing, and so is the performance. The camera is great, one of the best I’ve ever seen. When I first got it, battery got me through the entire day no problem. For cases, for the first few months I recommend a clear case (if you go colorful, I have blue), but after about 95% maximum battery capacity I recommend a battery case. (I can send you a link to a 6000mAh battery case on amazon for 30 bucks). If you have any questions just ask and I’d be happy to answer when I have the chance.

They exist. The company I work for used to make them.

They're expensive, and take a long time to charge a battery...plus leaving your phone in the sun isn't a great idea.

It's actually a phone case, with a battery in it, with solar on the back. The solar charges the case battery, and the case battery will charge the phone battery. You could take the case off, leave it in the sun to charge, and place it back on the phone, and then charge the phone battery; but at that point, why not just carry and extra battery with you?

Exists for other phones, it should be possible for the Nexuses but maybe just less of a market

$45 for the battery case, think this case and quality , but then we have to have a microcontroller and some other components, plus the custom design adds a little to production costs. Definitelt do-able.

I have the zero lemon case I use it at work all the time. Everyone laughs at how thick it is.

At that size, I suggest looking at external battery cases on Amazon. You'll have to check whether they have a built-in strap or not. Something like this

Honestly, it looks terrible. The nub at the bottom is unwieldy. Should have made the battery larger and squared off the phone instead.

It adds a lot of weight, which is okay, but then the case itself is TPU. Should have built in some real protection.

There is no need for the camera cutout on the back to be so huge. The cutout on my case is literally half the size, giving better protection, and it does not impact functionality at all.

Finally, and this may be an unfair criticism, but I don't like how the case requires the user to press the button. I don't like the external USB connector made for powering other devices. I don't like the LEDs on the back. I want the battery to integrate with the phone's battery and work automatically. I just want to charge the phone just like I do now and that's it. Perhaps android has limitations that make this impossible, but the extra stuff strikes me as gimmicks.
