I recently put a lot of time and effort into getting my groomsmen the perfect watches for their groomsmen gifts. When all was said and done I thought it might be fun to make a big effortpost about it, both for posterity as well as to potentially help any redditor grooms looking to do something similar in the future. Enjoy!

I began browsing r/watches and dipping my toe in wristwear culture about 3 years ago. When I proposed to my now-wife she insisted on getting me an engagement gift, so I asked her for exactly this, with the indicated customized bezel, insert, and strap. Wearing that Amphibia daily and experimenting with modifying it in various ways was a fantastic introduction to the horological lifestyle. It is a perfect workhorse watch: reliable enough to keep good time, just finicky enough to force a beginner to learn how to address its quirks, and durable enough to handle any amount of inexperienced fumbling with its components.

When the date of my wedding started to get close, I considered my options and quickly decided that I wanted to get my boys watches for their groomsmen gifts. With that goal in mind, I started to narrow down selection criteria for watch candidates:

  1. I had 7 groomsmen, and weddings are already expensive. These watches had to be <$80 each if I had any hope of getting the fiance on board.

  2. Some groomsmen were total watch novices, some were enthusiastic watch collectors. A gauche fashion watch would not only fail to impress the already-initiated, but would also be a terrible introduction to watch ownership for the newbies. I wanted a solid watch from a reputable company so that everyone would get the most out of the gift.

  3. I knew none of the guys (who didn’t already love watches) would bother replacing the watch battery when it died. Automatic was the way to go for sure. I also legitimately enjoy the process of setting/winding my watch every so often and wanted to share that with the guys.

  4. We were wearing blue suits. I needed a watch that would mix well with this specific color palette.

  5. I have tiny 6” wrists while some of my groomsmen have big slabs of meat for forearms. The watch I picked would have to be versatile and look good on any size wrist.

  6. I really wanted to maximize the utility of this gift (a pet peeve during this process was that most groomsmen gift options are a little lacking in long term usefulness. Everybody already has a shaving regimen, nobody needs a shaving kit. A bottle of good brandy will be gone and forgotten fairly quickly. Etc, etc.). With this in mind, I didn’t want a full dress watch. I wanted something that could be worn every day, something that was meant to take a bit of a beating during the day-to-day but still show up and look good at a formal event.

Once I started looking around for watches I fairly quickly came across this review on Amazon and instantly knew I had found the right watch. The cream dial fits extremely well with the blue suits we were wearing, the aesthetic was just nice enough to fit a wedding but also function as a daily beater, Seiko is a fairly reputable watchmaker, it really ticked almost every box.

The only two outlier concerns were that the SNK803’s price was a little high on Amazon at the time (the price fluctuates over the year, it’s common to see them listed anywhere from $55-$90) and the watch strap that came with the watch was pure unadulterated garbage. To address the price concern I went to Ebay, found a seller that had experience with putting SNK803’s on the market, and told him I wanted to bulk buy 9 watches (7 groomsmen + me + our family friend officiant). After some back-and-forth we settled on the extremely reasonable price of ~$60 per watch and price was no longer an obstacle. When the watches arrived it was like Christmas morning!

Changing the strap with a budget leather strap from Amazon was the final obvious adjustment that would make these perfect. I took some inspiration from a past r/watches post and decided to leather stamp each groomsman’s initials on the inside of the band using this. All things considered this process went fairly smoothly, the only difficult part was carefully aligning each stamp so that the letters didn’t look off-centered relative to each other, but if you go slowly and carefully the results come out looking pretty decent. Actually changing nine watch straps was a bit of a trial though, and I ended up going too quickly and accidentally scraping a lug along my middle finger and bleeding on my best man’s watch band. Made for a good story later when I gave the watch to him!

The finished product was perfect. The guys all loved their gift, they fit the aesthetic of the wedding perfectly, and they garnered tons of compliments over the weekend of the wedding. 10/10 would do again.

I bought one of These bad boys so I'm going to be Frank Ocean. I'm posting this out of the goodness of my heart. If you show up to one of my Halloween parties with this bandanna dressed as Frank, you better give me proper space to work the whole "I'm a sensitive R&B singer" angle or else we're going to have a Frank Ocean fight.

This was just posted like 4 days ago and i got one too!

I got you boys.

Hi all!

I thought I'd share this shot of my Explorer I (Ref# 214270) whilst at the top of the Banff Gondola! (I highly, highly recommend Banff btw - it's simply breathtaking and I don't want to leave! :-) ).

It was such an easy choice as to which watch to bring with my on my trip.

I have posted it on this strap before but just in-case anyone is interested, this is the one: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B071K7J6DW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I absolutely adore it on this color strap - it just gives it much more of a rugged look.

Anyways, enjoy!

To u/Emsflyer84. I just want to point out that I hate you. I'm going to let that sink in for a moment. I've never met you but I hate you. Why you may ask? Because after seeing your excellent choice in quick release canvas straps for your Hamilton Khaki Field I had to buy the exact same 20mm army green canvas strap for my own Hamilton Khaki King. I hope you're proud of yourself. :-P

A great rubber band that I have is the Barton Elite Silicon Band. It’s about $20 and you can get it on amazon.

u/EnterTheMan · 8 pointsr/malefashionadvice

obligatory Timex Weekender.

Pick a color, any color.

For casual wear I'd suggest a nylon band, something like this one or this if feeling patriotic. This and this if brown leather is your thing. Get whatever your eye fancies.

Heck, just buy a watch with a clean silver face/bevel and then get two extra straps to go along with it.

u/hithere90 · 7 pointsr/BabyBumps

I ended up buying these (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072B8X4G2/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_w0.NAb1W3SXR3 ) underwear from amazon based on another thread on here. I have no idea what size your wife would be, but they worked great for me all the way through the end of pregnancy.

I’ve been lurking on this sub for about a year now (username checks out) but this is my first post. My wife gave me the box as a wedding gift when we got married last month, so I figured it’s about time to share my collection. As you can probably tell, I’m not really a fan of bracelets, so I’ve been experimenting with nato and perlon straps. For reference, I have 6.75” wrists. And sorry for the crappy cell phone pictures, collecting watches is my new hobby, not photography! Below is a little story about each watch.

Timex

I’m 28 years old and I was never a watch guy until I saw a picture of someone wearing this watch last year. I knew nothing about watches when I purchased it, but for $50 I decided to pick one up. I love the clean dial and I think the black case goes well with the light brown band, but the loud ticking was a bit annoying. This was my only watch for about two months, but after spending a lot of time on this sub I decided to venture into the world of automatics. This is now my “beater” watch, and since the box only holds four watches, this one has been relegated to the nightstand drawer.

Seiko

After reading r/watches high praise for Seiko 5s, I purchased one as my first automatic. I went with the blue dial because the Timex was black, and I really enjoy the color, especially in the sunlight. The stock band was pretty crappy, but I love this watch now that I switched over to a leather nato.

Tisell

After purchasing the Seiko I was getting more and more interested in watches, and fell in love with Fliegers. I wanted a Stowa but couldn’t justify the price. After seeing a picture of a Tisell posted on this sub, I knew this would be my next watch. This is now my go to watch for work. The band is surprisingly good and the domed sapphire crystal really makes this watch stand out. My only complaints are the power reserve and lume could be better.

Orient

Spending more and more time on this sub, I knew I was getting hooked. The Rolex Polar Explorer II is one of my dream watches but I can’t quite afford one yet, so I had to find another white dial watch to hold me over. Again, based on this sub’s love of Orient, I decided on the Mako USA, and I’ve been extremely happy with the purchase. I wore this watch at my wedding and bought my groomsmen black and blue Makos for their gifts. Everyone was extremely pleased!

Citizen

This is my most recent pickup, and what I’ve told myself is going to be my last watch for a while (yeah, right). The rest of my collection is made up of pretty simple/basic designs so I needed something a little louder. At first the dial looks a bit cluttered, but it’s actually very easy to read. I prefer mechanical watches, but if I’m going to go quartz, the Ecodrive is pretty cool tech… I guess it’s time for me to learn how to use a slide rule!

u/Seeker80 · 4 pointsr/Watches

There are more SNKs than you probably saw. An SNK795 and a NATO, leather and canvas for multiple looks, and you're still under budget.

u/_McAngryPants_ · 3 pointsr/timbers
u/MilkChugg · 3 pointsr/Watches

It’s not much, but I really dig this little guy. I picked it up a couple of days ago and it has been one of my go tos. It’s a [Timex Originals 42mm](Timex Men's T2N677 Originals Oversized Tan Leather Strap Watch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006G7TKGG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_FNX1CbMJMDBBV). I like the simple design and I really like the 42mm. It’s not too big and not too small. I also replaced the strap because I wasn’t a huge fan of the one it came with.

I’ve recently started getting into watches, and luckily for me and my wallet, I’m a big fan of Timex’s aesthetic, quality, and price. Although this is marking the beginning of a very financially dangerous journey.

Same exact stats as you starting out and I feel exactly the same! I’m 21w and have been pretty active and have still managed to gain 20lbs at this point. Someone told me my face looked thinner, but my chest is huge, like 34I huge...
I’m sure you don’t look as bad at you think! You’re just used to looking different. Just try to keep your head up and stay as active as you can(easier said than done I know!). You’re growing a tiny human and you’ll lose it afterward!

If anyone is interested, you can get cheap clear bags from Amazon. Then if you want, you can buy a school logo sticker or something and slap it on.

If you're looking for a green strap to match that's better quality and comfort than the stock one, I recommend Barton's quick-release canvas strap. for $21. I bought the same watch for my girlfriend to wear, and she loves pairing it with the army green canvas strap on the daily.

For leather, a nice tan to medium brown NATO also looks great.

Slightly better hit on Amazon for your shirt: https://www.amazon.com/Jeff-Sessions-Ghost-Subpoena-Butter/dp/B07KD5LHGZ/

u/matanga_brother · 2 pointsr/GalaxyWatch

There are none available, unfortunately. You may find some tactical-looking alternatives, like the Barton Army Green Canvas or the NATO Army Green Canvas, but that's the best I've seen. These are regular watch straps, although they are the quick-release kind. You must choose them not by watch diameter size, but rather by wristband width. I own the GWA that has a 20mm width. Check yours first.

However, you can make due with some creativity. You can buy a paracord band for the apple watch and adapt it to your 42mm in a breeze. Basically, choose any model like this one and cut the metal pin that attaches to the watch with pliers. Then buy quick-release rods like these ones (remember to match your wristband width) and pass them through the ends of the paracord band. Lastly, use a small screwdriver to push the rod in and secure it to your watch.

It worked for me. There are many other brands that make similar ones that you can choose from too.

u/jamesmtorres · 2 pointsr/Seiko

This is the stock strap off of the black and brown Timex Weekender . It’s a 20mm on the SNK’s 18mm lug width, so it’s a bit stuffed but you make it work. I would t know where to get the strap by itself, but there are plenty of good leather natos on cheapestnatostraps.com or clockworksynergy.com

u/whenwillthewaitend · 2 pointsr/TFABGrads

I got some of these under the bump panties when I was pregnant with my son. They were amazing all the way through pregnancy. Most of them held up pretty well and I'm back in them this time around. There were 1-2 out of the 10ish I got that have elastic that is a bit looser now than it was. I think that's mostly because I gained way too much weight with my son and kept squeezing into the smaller size undies for too long so I stretched them out. But at only $3-4 per panty I'm not too upset about it.

I plan on picking up a few more to replace the ones I stretched out and just to have more since well, I tend to change underwear far more often this time around. Confession: my pelvic floor muscles aren't what they used to be and I tend to pee myself a tiny bit now when I cough or sneeze. Yay pregnancy.

u/hiendtime · 2 pointsr/Garmin

Never had that happen with any of my Garmin's, but know others that have had a reaction to silicone. I wash my bands with soap and water every few days. Not sure if that has anything to do with why I've never had an issue.

I put a nylon NATO strap on my Vivoactive 3 that is super comfortable. Also have a canvas strap. It's a bit more ridged, so slightly less comfortable. Links are below for reference.

It really depends on the type of problems you are having. Diastases issue? The recommendation is a standard pregnancy belt. If you are having pelvic and sacral instability then an SI belt is probably recommended. They do make a modified verson of the two molded into one such as this one. Hope that helps a bit.

I actually have a form of both. Feel free to PM me if you have more questions.

It's kind of a hassle sometimes and bulky, but it has helped me with both upper and lower back pain, and with pain in my legs. Sometimes I feel like it isn't doing that much, and then I take it off and realize how much heavier my belly feels.

These are incredibly popular in our area. You can buy them at most Asian grocery stores. There used to be a lot of red light cameras around here, but they took them down after not being able to identify the drivers. Even if they try to get the registered owner of the car to fess up who was driving, if several members of the family use the visors, it can be hard to know who it really is. Not sure if something like that would work there.

My preference is to buy a versatile watch face and then change out the strap. My first "classy" watch was the Skagen I put in the original post. The strap it came with looked great with formalwear, but it worked brilliantly with this NATO strap for everyday wear. Other than the fact that it was just a bit too small for the watch, it looked dynamite. It looks very similar to this. Changing the band changes the entire feel of the watch.

Given the relatively poor coverage Japan receives in today's basic history classes, in comparison to the attention given to the Hitler-Allies-Europe side of the conflict, it's unsurprising that your run-of-the-mill college kid would have little or no concept of the history of the Rising Sun.

I used a bravado nursing bra from target. It was OK but not great. I eventually shrunk enough that I needed a smaller size and ordered this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000YQJD3U. It was fantastic. Much better support and a lower cut neckline so I could wear more tops with it. I didn't have much luck with an underwire bra.
I also used the disposable lansinoh nursing pads and liked them, but only needed them a few months.

u/trees_make_me_happy · 1 pointr/beyondthebump

These are my favorite nursing bras. They stay put really well and are super comfy (they're pretty close to sport bras) but you'd still need to wear disposable nursing pads. Leaking does suck though :(.
