I'll interpret "guy stuff" as "EDC stuff".
Bonus item: This isn't under $30, but $45 wil buy you a Leatherman Skeletool, which is one of the most universally useful items I own.
Edit: "EDC" stands for Every Day Carry. To paraphrase the /r/EDC sidebar, EDC means the essentials that I carry a daily basis. Things that I either use every day, or want to have with me in case I might need them. Sorry for the confusion, /u/ForgottenEcho and /u/Sanctitas.
Totally agree on all points. I'll add that if you get a notebook, use a composition notebook (where the pages are sewn in). If pages are removed, it's very obvious. I learned in a foster care class that it's prefered by courts.
I was just about to say this! Amazon has great deals on 24 packs of these notebooks:
https://www.amazon.com/Kraft-Notebook-Journals-Students-Childrens/dp/B07D8PJQBT/ref=pd_cart_vw_crc_1_2/130-8669783-0452267?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07D8PJQBT&pd_rd_r=abee71cb-5756-4a55-b08e-cf9c8a76f7bb&pd_rd_w=DoI9U&pd_rd_wg=LXXr2&pf_rd_p=aa9f3def-b8ac-4b15-aa4b-c6a8313c2f5e&pf_rd_r=9VFE3TFJFRJ7Y0PYQ73V&refRID=9VFE3TFJFRJ7Y0PYQ73V&th=1
The Moleskin Address Book has alphabetical tabs on the side and looks absolutely boss. Credit goes to Jeffrey Morgenthaler for the idea.
Amazon! I have the same one, I got it over Christmas last year to sketch in. However, it's not a good sketching journal and I use it for notes now.
I'll find the link, but I'm fairly certain if you just search Amazon for a "leather journal" this one, and several like it, will show up.
Edit: Here's a link, but I'm sure there's many more sellers of the same journal. Additionally I've seen it in witchcraft-like stores.
Keep in mind it's little. Fits basically in my one hand.
Apparently this is the "newer" version on Amazon. Don't know what that means, but it's DEFINITELY BIGGER. Just pay attention to the sizes.
Amazon has 200 sheets of 100gsm, dotted loose-leaf paper for $9.95 presuming you’re in the US
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H275WJ1
Can you get a hole punch for this?
EDIT: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PCL61X5
With holes
[amazon seems to have a lot of graph paper composition options for cheap] (http://www.amazon.com/Roaring-Spring-Cover-Composition-sheets/dp/B006IAT61K/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1462998968&sr=8-4&keywords=composition+book+graph+paper)
Their graph paper version is even cheaper than their college ruled version.
Decomposition books (amazon link) are made of 100% recycled paper and soy ink. I have not used these, but I've seen them online and in book stores, so it should be easy to get your hands on one.
Baron Fig has a system in place so every Confidant notebook that gets sold results in a donation being made to plant a tree. Plus, they are a small business that started with a Kickstarter a few years ago. I use one of these notebooks. Great quality for pretty much every pen I use (mostly fountain pens).
Is this it?
I'd personally go with this flashlight, this pen, and this knife, and this notebook.
A brass notebook seems silly. Ideally, I'd upgrade the knife to a brass bolstered GEC slipjoint. Maybe a higher end flashlight too...like an Olight s1 in brass.

Maybe something like this? There are a lot on amazon site for example https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BBW8P5V/ref=sspa_dk_detail_2?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B07BBW8P5V&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=f0dedbe2-13c8-4136-a746-4398ed93cf0f&pd_rd_wg=62ttX&pf_rd_r=CZW34GGDPRAM2STZB2BC&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&pd_rd_w=qCYs3&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pd_rd_r=b65e00bc-f41e-11e8-9d6a-b5881f04e66f
I use these Oxford Campus notebooks: (the same company that does the Black n Red ones) http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00AUV714W/ref=pd_aw_sims_7?pi=SS115&simLd=1
It's certainly fountain pen friendly and smooth, and £2.20 for a 140 page (70 sheet) notebook isn't bad. A few weeks ago Tesco had a deal where they were £1.50 and I bought 15 to see me through the year.
P.S. what university are you off to? I don't start 'till Monday but can't name many other places that haven't started yet.
It looks a lot like Oxford Campus
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Oxford-Campus-Refill-Assorted-Colours/dp/B00AUV714W
See the icon in the top right corner in the 4th picture, your linked one has the addition of an I, however. Possibly another range the company or an older design but most definitely Oxford Campus.
https://www.amazon.in/Factor-Notes-Notebook-Dotted-Bullet/dp/B081B14SKZ i used this notebook
You could also try a grid lined composition book
Marvelous, wondrous, capital And thanks for the top notch contest!
Amazon gods have spoken to me

Been here lurking for a while and finally decided to post my EDC. Since there's been some discussion lately as to where people carry their EDC that is how my list below is broken down. Let me know if you have any additional questions.
Head
Neck
Left Wrist
Front Left Pocket
Front Right Pocket
Back Left Pocket or In-Hand
For those interested in the EZGO and KeySmart my opinions are as follows.
I like the EZGOs form-factor, but after owning it for a while it doesn't 'stretch' at all for what's in there. I have two credit cards, ID, insurance and a punch card in mine and it's like pulling teeth to get anything out of it. Also, since it's made to fit cards, anything bigger than that can't be accommodated. As a result I have my CPL, vehicle insurance and KOBALT tool rubber-banded to the thing. I've been eyeing the Flipside 3X as a replacement, but their shipping is around $7 which is over 10% the cost of the wallet... hence my apprehension in buying one.
As for the KeySmart, I've had it a couple of days and so far I dig it but with a couple of caveats. They include two keyblanks for Schlage-style keys. I took one of them to Lowe's to have it cut and there was an issue with the blank, as a result their machine could not provide an accurate copy. I purchased a key from Lowe's and they made it without issue. Not sure what kind of weird science is up with the blanks they included, but I would be leery of buying their 'lightweight' and colored blanks as you may have similar results. My second issue may be somewhat nitpicky, but it's next to impossible to open the door with one hand anymore. Hands full of groceries or mail? Well, you better plan ahead on getting your key flipped out prior to getting to the door, other wise you'll be settin' that shit down.
Would I buy the EZGO Slim again? No. Would I buy the KeySmart again? Yes.
DAE compositions aren't worth what they used to be?
Damn Loch ness monster!
Everyone needs to carry around a small journal.
I've searched for unlined (or blank) Rhodia and Clairefontaine bound notebooks but they don't seem to be very popular. I'm currently using these notebooks (one for each class) and I love them because it's just a composition book filled with blank paper.

I had one. Gave it to my sister.

Bible covers work well and there are a lot of hand made (you could have a custom made non-religious) in Etsy
Lochby (formerly Bond Travel Gear) makes a rugged looking one, but it’s short on pen space.

Yenderings makes some unique notebook/ pen storage wraps. I really like mine. It holds 12 pens a notebook and has pocket zippered pockets and other hiding spots

I would Give Goulet or Vanness a tru if you want a leather Galen pen/notebook combo.
Here is the link to Vanness. They have the 5 pen case in a very nice Navy Blue

You said plain paper right? (not lined?) This is the first thing that came up from a Google search, although you didn't mention your country
Kraft Notebook - 48-Pack Unlined Blank Books, Unruled Plain Travel Journals for Students, School, Children's Writing Books, Class Projects, Brown, 4.25 x 5.5 Inches, 24 Sheets Each https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D8MQ71H/
I use notebooks, but I wait until there is a summer $0.10 deal to buy about 200, otherwise they are super expensive. Here are composition notebooks for about $1 each. I you really want them then buy them out of pocket, if not, just put the district person in contact with the school person and make them figure it out.
Get her a bunch of composition notebooks instead. I've got a bunch of hardbound notebooks I've been given as gifts over the years and, while they're thoughtful, a comp book is just far easier to lug around.
Random one. It is a PIGNA paper.
I can post you this link but I don’t think it is common know paper.

For completed recipes, a Moleskine address book, which makes it easy to find a drink alphabetically.
Work in progress in a separate notebook.
These Mini Pantone Notebooks have really teeny dot grids inside of them. I've seen them in person at Urban Outfitters if you've got one close by, but the price is better on Amazon.
Edits because I can't type when I'm sleepy.
it's one of the notebooks from this pantone set,
they're very small but I wanted something small!
We are putting 'decomposition' notebooks on each table, and asking that everyone write something at some point in the book, at their table. They have a lot of cute cover designs, and even the classic composition notebooks are fun too. Here is a link to an amazon listing for one:
