I'm copy pasting a previous comment here:

I got my little guy a car seat where he can look out the window and his whining has completely gone down. It hangs off the car seat head thing and straps across the back. It's nice because you can buckle them in and know they're safe. My buddy can also lay down in the box and sleep or chew on something. I saw a bunch of expensive ones but bought this one (below) and it's been great! Watch out for airbags and keep your pup in the backseat unless your car turns off the airbag when the front seat is not occupied. My pup can be in the front seat because it doesn't turn on the airbag.

It's a car seat that is safer and lets him look out the window! My doggo loves it.

Edit: pupper in seat

Dog car seat is one of the best thing I’ve brought ever. I couldn’t find one that worked well here in Australia so the shipping was killer but it’s great for my puppy, she’s very secure but can see out the window which she loves. Even if you slam the breaks on the seat doesn’t move [link.](
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004ZJOKL2/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1510471973&sr=8-3&keywords=dog%2Bbucket%2Bseat%2Bcar&dpPl=1&dpID=41Uc7CN0SyL&ref=plSrch&th=1&psc=1)

Looking forward to Amazon lauching here soon and seeing what they’ve got.

u/jstenulis · 5 pointsr/Dachshund

Yes! It has two leash type fasteners built in, for two small dogs, that can be clipped into their harness or collar. I’ve owned it for a little my time and my two Chis lives trips in it as it keeps them up high to see. booster

It's this one: Devoted Doggy Metal Frame Construction Pet Booster Seat with Zipper Storage Pocket, Black/Grey https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XTN4FV0/

u/SeanMcL216 · 4 pointsr/schnauzers

This is the chair that is in the picture.

My Fiance also bought the same one (except brown instead of gray) for her Beagle.

They seat belt in and have a strap to attach to your pups harness.

The strap is the only reason I leave the windows wide open like that since I know he's belted in.

Booster Seat: https://www.amazon.com/WOpet-Durable-Protector-Adjustable-Pocket-Suitable/dp/B07Q3412N5/ref=sr_1_18?keywords=Dog+booster+seat&qid=1558394205&s=gateway&sr=8-18

There are lots of versions available! My dog has one that lifts him a bit higher so he can see out the window.

Just be sure to clip them in (with a harness!) so they don't go flying through the window in a crash.

u/winnywaffles · 4 pointsr/Frenchbulldogs

here ya go! It seems pretty durable so far!

u/borkshireterrier · 4 pointsr/Yorkies

I'd focus less on brand for stuff like toys and brushes, it matters more for things like dog food.

I love oven baked tradition dog food for small breeds and I get it through global pet foods. My dog used to not want to eat and then I switched him to that and he was suddenly a good eater.

For treats I use Crumps' Naturals Mini Trainers Freeze Dried Beef Liver but any freeze dried liver or organ meat works great. Sometimes I just boil chicken and dice it up small and use that as a treat.

I recommend using a harness where the lead clips through rungs near the harness clasp so that if the clasp comes undone your dog will still be attached to the leash. Never use a harness that uses Velcro to close, I learned that the hard way.

I use a car seat like this one https://www.amazon.ca/Kurgo-Rover-Booster-Seat-Tether/dp/B004699SHW/ref=sr_1_27?keywords=car+seat&qid=1574183135&s=pet-supplies&sr=1-27 not sure what the safety rating is but it keeps my lil guy from trying to crawl into my lap when I'm driving.

Please don't add a bell to your dog's collar. Dogs have much better hearing than humans and the bell would be so close to their ears. If you are worried about your dog getting lost make sure they have a tag on their collar with your address+phone number and make sure they are micro chipped.

Sorry to tell you, but dog hair is inevitable. The best solution is the good ol’ vacuum cleaner. You can keep a duster handy to wipe the hair from the seat to the floor and then vacuum later on.

Not sure how big your dog is, but I have a car seat for my Frenchie. I bought this one and it works well. Also helps to prevent paws/claws on the seats.

u/oreobees · 3 pointsr/shiba

Looks like you have a good list going, remember to update your pups microchip with your address and get him/her a tag with your details.

We got a 36 inch crate and it's plenty big for our boy (he's around 30 pounds).

Puppia harness is a great starter harness, it's soft and doesn't have a bunch of metal jingling pieces which our puppy HATED on his harness our breeder gave us.

Kibble, check out dog food advisor for reviews and ratings of foods content, we were using grain free salmon and sweet potato from chicken soup for the soul, it's decently priced and well rated I can't find it anywhere atm so we're switching him back to their normal kibble.

Salmon Oil is a lifesaver in the winter, our pup gets terribly dry skin and extremely itchy without it.

Start out with a puppy kong, they sell kong fillers that are cheese and peanut butter flavored, our puppy was pretty picky at first and only ate the cheese one, didn't like frozen kongs either.

I'd start with a Basic Collar here's a Dog Tag Silencer and a Break-away collar for outdoors or dog park. A dog was choked unconscious at our park so I typically just keep our guys ID tags on his harness and don't use a collar, but if you do I definitely recommend a break-away if you are primarily using a harness with it.

Items we found useful: Bed Liner, Crate Fence, Kong, Stainless Steel Bowls (highly reccomend US made do not buy any made in China for health reasons), Zippy Paws Hide and Seek toys, Potty/accident cleaner, Potty Bells, Anti-chew Bitter Apple spray, 50 ft Leash, Retractable Leash, Soft stop Leash extender, Car Seat Belt, Car Booster Seat, Gentle Shampoo, Comb, Travel Water Bottle, Flirt Pole, Special Treats, Chew Stick, Greenies

Sorry for the HUGE list lol, feel free to ask any questions!

u/mlh4 · 3 pointsr/lookatmydog

From amazon! Sunny loves it, she can never get comfortable/stable during car rides but this gets the job done without me having to move her dog bed in and out of the car constantly.

I have something similar to this. There’s an attachment you can clip to your dogs harness to keep him put. My dog just chills the whole time so I typically don’t have to do that but might be helpful for others.

u/thefootballhound · 2 pointsr/cavaliers

He's unstimulated (bored) because he feels the car is moving but can't see much from that vantage. I got my cav a booster seat and she just loves the car ride scenery. Recommend this one.

We got one of these for each boy. They work really good and easy to install with existing seat belts. Comes with 2 latches if you want to combine dogs.

They went on vacation with us last year and these kept them in place for 18 hour drive.

My 20 pound buddy sits in what I call his "dog seat". He rides with me all the time and doesn't go flying when I hit the brakes any more.

u/bobbylight17 · 2 pointsr/schnauzers

It's a dog booster car seat from Petco. There's all kinds of fancy ones lined with fur and all that. Here's a pretty basic one. I like mine because it has another clip that you tie to the dog's collar so he doesn't jump out of it.

Amazon also has a bunch if you just look up "Dog Booster Car Seat."

It’s a really nice seat.

u/penny_dreadful_mess · 2 pointsr/dogs

Where is she in the car? My dog got much less car sick in a booster seat because she could see out the window. I used one like this . I used a car harness as well because the boosters themselves aren't safety precautions, no matter what the ads say.

u/DeathsArrow · 2 pointsr/pugs

We use a harness and a seat like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Solvit-Tagalong-Booster-Seat-Medium/dp/B003F76Y6E/ref=sr_1_7?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1487611972&sr=1-7&keywords=dog+car+seat

It gives them a good view of what's going on but is secure so they can't run around the back. Make sure you have a harness on them to clip into the seat. Any harness will do.

u/DTK101 · 2 pointsr/pics

Totally agree. I see tons of dogs on laps and always feel bad for them. Is your carrier like this?

It is great as the cover is easy to remove and very durable as well as the foam structure is strong and can handle two fat frenchies at a time. It also has a great front storage unit built in.

u/RoboT-Rexth · 2 pointsr/puppy101

Posting from mobile so I apologize for the formatting if it’s weird. We have a pet booster seat they call it? I use it for my puppy until he’s old enough to go in the back of the car.

I like that I can attach the integrate leash to his collar and he stays put and I can focus on the road.

u/wicked_nix · 1 pointr/AmItheAsshole

There are things you can buy to help keep him safe and secure.

example

u/ShitandRainbows · 1 pointr/jeepdogs

I use this one.

I love it. It’s also a booster seat, you adjust the height so they can see out of the window and windshield. It comes with a seatbelt teacher that you can attach your dogs harness so they can’t jump/fall out. The lining and cushioning comes out super easy so you can wash it.
I’ve had it for years and even with my doors off most of the time, I have zero concern he will fall out. It’s really easy to put in and take out too, but I usually leave it in unless I have a passenger.
My little guy is 11lbs and has plenty of room to lay down in it also. Honestly can’t recommend it enough.

u/bb-h8te · 1 pointr/cats

My cat also howls in his carrier. You might consider a harness and a dog/cat car seat. It's basically just an open box that straps to the seat and has a tether to hold them in. My little buddy is almost 16 and greatly prefers it to being crated.

mine is similar to this

u/drorgin · 1 pointr/dogsupplies

That looks heavenly! But I can't turn my airbags off manually, so I have to get one that doesn't actually touch the seat :( I finally settled on http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003F76Y8M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and it seems to do the trick :)

u/mswhit36 · 1 pointr/mildlyinfuriating

There are a few different options, and some might be better than others depending on the size of your dog. Dogs should wear a harness in the car and not a collar (so it doesn't hurt their neck in an accident), then clip the harness either to a seat belt directly using a dog car seat belt or have them clipped in to a dog car seat. I have a dog car seat for my 2 mini dachshunds and use a baby carseat seatbelt for the backseat of my car. Before that, I had a carseat that sat on the center console of my truck, similarly strapped in. The main thing is to keep the dogs from becoming projectiles or being thrown from the car. Even though they'd love to be in our laps, they're also happy sleeping in the car seat and are so much safer for it.

These are some of the ones I've used and can vouch for, but there are a bunch out there:

**Edit: Just for some more info, I travel regularly with my dogs so they've used these for anything from 20 minutes to 15 hour trips before.

I have three small dogs, and one of them is a 9-lb terrier mix, and I use these car seats: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001INRIQW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_yOsGybMHCCXF3

When visiting other people's houses, I take it out of my car and bring it inside and she uses it as a bed. I also have a [puppy playpen] (https://www.amazon.com/IRIS-Exercise-4-Panel-Playpen-White/dp/B00D5P846Y/ref=sr_1_1?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1485473676&sr=1-1&keywords=iris+plastic+puppy+and+dog+pet+playpen) that is super easy to disassemble and take with me.

A few small dog friends, make use of something like this which their dogs like.

u/bagelhug · 1 pointr/dogs

I had this problem with my dog too! Same thing with the Cerenia-- she stopped throwing up but still BUCKETS of drool and she was still clearly miserable. Took her about a day to recover, plus that stuff is stupid expensive.

Here's what fixed it: Dramamine! Works like a charm, she barely drools anymore and is perfectly fine when we arrive at our destination. I expected some drowsiness but surprisingly haven't noticed any yet.

Also, I'm not sure how big your dog is but mine is 30lbs and I think part of the problem was her getting moved around a lot in the back seat and not being about to see out the window. We got a car seat like this one to raise her up and keep her in place. She just lays really still in it but doesn't vomit anymore in shorter car rides without the Dramamine.

Oh and be sure to check with your vet for the dosage of the Dramamine before you try it :)

u/DoggilyWoggily · 1 pointr/Dogtraining

My dog shakes and is visibly nervous in the car. I bought one of these. It's expensive, but now my dog cuddles down in it and sleeps!!! I've had it for about three weeks, but the cuddle down behavior started immediately. Hope this helps!

u/Oderdigg · 1 pointr/GoRVing

You get a harness for the dog and secure him like you would any child seat. Our dog bed has a spot where you feed the seat-belt through the bed and then the dogs clip into the bed. Like this.

I this booster seat for my dog coupled with a headrest seatbelt I clip to her harness. For the booster seat, the seat belt goes through the bottom of it to keep it secure. I purchased bc I saw the reviews of people who had gotten into wrecks and their dogs were better off than the driver!

She loves it, it allows hers to see more and sit more comfortably in the back seat while preventing her moving around.

Tell her that if you guys get into an accident, her dogs are going to fly out the windshield and die. If they're in a cage in the back, they're much more likely to survive. Hell, I bet they have cages that you can buckle into the back seat, like kid's car seats. I found this one.

Your girlfriend is a horrible dog owner. She's like a parent with a toddler who lets the toddler get spoiled and do whatever they want, and the toddler enjoys it in the moment but overall suffers. Dogs need direction and supervision just like children do. Tell her to imagine a parent who never clips their toddler's nails because the toddler cries when they do it. Imagine a toddler who yells at and hits other children and is never disciplined for it. Imagine driving with an unsecured toddler in the front seat. It would be complete insanity, and abuse.

Her dogs freaking out at people and other dogs during walks is extremely not okay. I cannot stress enough how fucking appalled I am at that. Her precious babies are going to bite someone or their pet and get put down, and they would deserve it. She's a horrible pet owner who isn't training her dogs because it's easier to treat them like perfect little angels than to deal with them. She needs to grow the fuck up and put in the time and effort to train her dogs.

Honestly think about whether you want to stay with her long term, and have children in the future. Is this how she's going to be with them? Is she going to raise spoiled brats who never get told 'no' because she just can't discipline them? How she treats her dogs (small helpless creatures that depend on her fully) is pretty indicative of how she'll treat children.
