This is why I have a waterproof pet car seat cover in the back of my car

u/BrooBu · 55 pointsr/corgi

I'm copy pasting a previous comment here:

I got my little guy a car seat where he can look out the window and his whining has completely gone down. It hangs off the car seat head thing and straps across the back. It's nice because you can buckle them in and know they're safe. My buddy can also lay down in the box and sleep or chew on something. I saw a bunch of expensive ones but bought this one (below) and it's been great! Watch out for airbags and keep your pup in the backseat unless your car turns off the airbag when the front seat is not occupied. My pup can be in the front seat because it doesn't turn on the airbag.

Belts for dogs don't quite work the same way, though. There's a high failure rate.

You can get something like this instead and it's supposedly the best because it keeps them contained to the back seat.

u/Catswagger11 · 11 pointsr/aww

I definitely understand not wanting to get something that he is going to grow out of, but if he’s going to be in the car a lot in the future it might be good to get him used to being harnessed while he’s young. Car seat covers like this also make things a little safer. Have fun with the little man!

Regularly put my 80lb male in the back seat of a Toyota Yaris. A seat hammock helps: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Waterproof-Hammock-Seat-Cover/dp/B00QHC041A/

u/keekslarue · 8 pointsr/OldManDog

Thank you! It’s a car seat hammock and it’s definitely a must have! I absolutely love it, and have had mine for years. I bought one for my boyfriend’s truck and my SUV. This is the one I have, but there are lots of different brands. And congratulations on your new addition!

u/ihadtopickaname · 7 pointsr/shiba

I have one of these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y23675C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_baMPAbF9HD5Y0

It doesn’t stop all the hair from getting all over the car, but it helps a TON! Plus it keeps my black leather seats away from claws and dirty paws. And my shiba can’t fall between the seats if I have to brake hard in traffic.

u/missus-bean · 7 pointsr/Honda

I got this for the back seat of my Si and these to keep them safe

I don’t let them in the front. :)

u/disgustipated · 7 pointsr/dogs

If you have time, get one of these. Works great, easy to install/remove.

Dog hammocks like this work great for me:

https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B075MCHYZV

u/libbeccio · 6 pointsr/dogs

While I'm definitely pro-seat covers and use one for my dog, I'm actually going to caution you away from one in your situation. I'm a child seat tech, and most child seat manufacturers strongly recommend you do not put anything between the child seat and the bench seat. There are a few exceptions (I think some Britax seats and some Graco seats), but I would definitely check your child seat manual. Even though it seems like a little thing, it could possibly change your child seat dynamics in a crash, and would likely void your child seat warranty.

For your pup, you could still use a single seat cover like those designed for the front seat. A bonus would be that that type wouldn't restrict your center shoulder belt or any of the buckles.

Sincerely hope that didn't come off as preachy; I just wanted to bring up something you may not have thought about already. I hope you find something that works well for you!

u/radddchaddd · 6 pointsr/goldenretrievers

This is the one I use.

Edit: fixed link

u/niccig · 6 pointsr/cars

I have the hammock you linked. It works pretty well, but I only attach one side to the front seats, and fold the back seats down (hatchback) since my dog needs a little more room than the back seat. There are also door covers that might help keep the door trim from getting scratched up, though I don't have those. The dings and scratches from my dog have all come from his toenails. Keep them as short as practical, and use a dremel for trimming instead of clippers, since clippers can leave sharp edges. You might want to toss some cleaner in your trunk to wipe up any slobber or noseprints, and keep a towel/paper towels in the trunk in case of dirty feet/unexpected mud. It can be really hard to get hair from short-coated dogs out of the headliner but if you put on a heavy-duty rubber glove - the kind for washing dishes & stuff - and brush the liner with your hand that will help the hair ball up so you can vacuum it out.

u/Thebush121 · 5 pointsr/teslamotors

The is the one I use. Fit perfect in my Tacoma and the model 3. Wrapping the clips around the head rest is tricky but it fits and works well. I like the zip up sides, keeps my husky mostly off the doors... Hair still gets everywhere but that's the husky life.

Car covers for pets are life-savers

I know it's a bit unrelated to the post, but that hair drives me nuts and I want all dog owners to know these exist.

u/Cyt6000 · 5 pointsr/Dogtraining

Both my pup have been road tripping since they were 8 weeks so keep that in mind. We also recently moved from East to West coast with our pups which meant a pretty long road trip (3 14 hour days). Since yours is use to the car a 4 hour road trip shouldn't be a problem as long as he doesn't get car sick.

So make sure you have a copy of vet records (at least proof of shots) with you. A dog first aid kit is good to keep on hand, [I have this one in my car] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CL0PB9W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_gXwdBbKKGXYPY). To prevent car sickness make sure they don't eat an hour or two prior to the trip. Benedryl makes them sleep (1mg per lb) so it can help if they're anxious. Also have your vet's phone number on hand as well as a 24hr emergency clinc for the area you'll be in.

For the ride itself, I stop about every 2-4 hours (whenever I get gas) or if they are acting like they need a potty. They ride in the back seat on a car hammock. I cover it with blankets too for comfort and easy clean up for accidents. It's also suggested to buckle up your dog with a car safe harness, I really only do this if one is riding in the front seat.

For hotels, I like staying with la Quinta but BringFido is a good resource for finding hotels and activities you can do with your dog. When we were in a hotel, we used chairs to block of the area immedietly by the door since our pups would bark when people were loud in the halls. We also left the TV running to help cover up random noises they heard to help prevent barking.

Make sure you bring toys, blankets, treats, water and extra food. Nothing sucks more than trying to find your dog food while you're in a new area. Also would recommend bringing an extra leash and collar just in case.

If you have any specific questions or anything I can sure help.

u/b4c0n_l0v3r · 5 pointsr/XVcrosstrek

I use this for my front seat: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01GDGGC6A/. Easy to take on and off to accommodate four and two-legged passengers up front. Stays secure even with a rambunctious pup. If you add a dog bed or pad for long road trips that is made of water resistant or waterproof material, it will likely have trouble staying put on top of the cover. Solved with adding a blanket in between.

I'm eyeing this one for the rear seats: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0767D2499/. I like the option to have bench and hammock style. It also doubles as a rear seat back protector when seats are folded down.

u/kunigit · 5 pointsr/corgi

We got this waterproof car seat cover for the back seat: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013VPZTAQ/

That way, we only need to have the one towel to dry her off after the dog park. Maybe a soft brush would help knock the worst of the mud off before getting in the car. A towel doesn't seem to do much for muddy paws, but at least the seat cover contains it.

Hoping the door covers will keep my dog from scratching my 3. Mesh is nice for rear AC.

u/Countenance · 4 pointsr/AugustBumpers2017

Just a FTM, but we've been talking about this a LOT for the same reasons. Our bigger dog is also not a fan of the car and our smaller dog tends to scramble his way forward whenever we're not looking.

Two things we love for making the trunk area better:

-A barrier is really nice for keeping them from scrambling forward and endangering everyone by distracting us or stepping on whoever is in their way.

-a hammock helps the more nervous dog relax more. On a flat surface he tends to pace and shake as the car moves, but he lays down and chills in a hammock arrangement.

u/titiangal · 4 pointsr/ofcoursethatsathing

I would worry about his nails popping the inflatable too. If you’re okay with making the backseat solely his, maybe a hammock would be better? This one has solid reviews, but there are simpler ones if you sometimes need your backseat for passengers.

It also helps contain the dog hair so every passenger doesn’t need a lint roller after a ride. Personally I use a leash adapter that connects to the buckled seat belt to prevent him from getting hurt in an accident but still offering enough range of motion for him to look out the window or lay down.

u/SeanMcL216 · 4 pointsr/schnauzers

This is the chair that is in the picture.

My Fiance also bought the same one (except brown instead of gray) for her Beagle.

They seat belt in and have a strap to attach to your pups harness.

The strap is the only reason I leave the windows wide open like that since I know he's belted in.

u/WhiskeyWithBoesky · 4 pointsr/subaru

Got it from Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DQFZGZ0/ It's little pricier than some, but seems more durable than the one we had in my wife's Legacy that had straps break.

u/Young_Lincoln · 4 pointsr/teslamotors

I bought this one from Amazon that looks identical to the Taptes one but costs around $27 vs the $40 they're asking. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01N4OQQSJ/ref=ya_aw_oh_bia_dp?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . It looks like there are several brands there that are similar for around that $30 price. In any case, we're happy with ours for occasional use (a few times a month) with our 100 pound Doberman. It keeps him in a safe, comfortable position and traps most of his fur, even when he's shedding. The only thing you need to do is adjust the headrest straps when you first get it. It's very easy to fold up and stow, or move between cars.

u/amelia_kristen · 3 pointsr/Dachshund

I picked up something similar to this and it greatly increased my red heeler's enjoyment of the car AND reduced how much hair he leaves in the back seat.

Looks like you have a good list going, remember to update your pups microchip with your address and get him/her a tag with your details.

We got a 36 inch crate and it's plenty big for our boy (he's around 30 pounds).

Puppia harness is a great starter harness, it's soft and doesn't have a bunch of metal jingling pieces which our puppy HATED on his harness our breeder gave us.

Kibble, check out dog food advisor for reviews and ratings of foods content, we were using grain free salmon and sweet potato from chicken soup for the soul, it's decently priced and well rated I can't find it anywhere atm so we're switching him back to their normal kibble.

Salmon Oil is a lifesaver in the winter, our pup gets terribly dry skin and extremely itchy without it.

Start out with a puppy kong, they sell kong fillers that are cheese and peanut butter flavored, our puppy was pretty picky at first and only ate the cheese one, didn't like frozen kongs either.

I'd start with a Basic Collar here's a Dog Tag Silencer and a Break-away collar for outdoors or dog park. A dog was choked unconscious at our park so I typically just keep our guys ID tags on his harness and don't use a collar, but if you do I definitely recommend a break-away if you are primarily using a harness with it.

Items we found useful: Bed Liner, Crate Fence, Kong, Stainless Steel Bowls (highly reccomend US made do not buy any made in China for health reasons), Zippy Paws Hide and Seek toys, Potty/accident cleaner, Potty Bells, Anti-chew Bitter Apple spray, 50 ft Leash, Retractable Leash, Soft stop Leash extender, Car Seat Belt, Car Booster Seat, Gentle Shampoo, Comb, Travel Water Bottle, Flirt Pole, Special Treats, Chew Stick, Greenies

Sorry for the HUGE list lol, feel free to ask any questions!

u/burts_beads · 3 pointsr/Camry

I have this one in my 2016 Camry for my big dumb boxer. Seems to work pretty well.

u/sminty7 · 3 pointsr/TeslaModel3

Highly recommend a hammock style seat cover to keep hair and dirt somewhat contained. I have this one and it’s easy to take out and vacuum and also run through the wash.

u/Stories-With-Bears · 3 pointsr/dogs

I have this car seat cover to protect my seats. I like it because it covers the seat, as well as the backrest and the backs of the front seats. You can also unzip it down the middle to transition it out of "hammock mode" and allow someone to sit down without fully taking the cover off.

For a safety harness, I'm a big fan of Sleepy Pod. They're definitely expensive, but they're one of the only (if not THE only) brands to be crash-tested to child safety restraint standards and pass. Subaru sponsored a bunch of crash tests with the Center for Pet Safety, so you could always check out the CPS website and pick something from there. My justification for dropping $80 on a harness was knowing that if I do get into an accident, I don't want to live with the guilt of "I wonder if my dog would have been okay if I had just bought a better harness".

u/_a_d_b · 3 pointsr/TeslaModel3

Sorry to tell you, but dog hair is inevitable. The best solution is the good ol’ vacuum cleaner. You can keep a duster handy to wipe the hair from the seat to the floor and then vacuum later on.

Not sure how big your dog is, but I have a car seat for my Frenchie. I bought this one and it works well. Also helps to prevent paws/claws on the seats.

u/jadestonewinnifer · 3 pointsr/Dachshund

I have something like this so my pup can look out the window but is still strapped in and safe :)

u/Faps_McTickle · 3 pointsr/infiniti

Not really a mod, but I hate my back seat headrests because they don't allow me to install and remove a dog harness thing. So I ran up to my hardware store and grabbed some lengths of braided cable to secure independently around 2 of the 3 child seat harnesses in loops. Now I can hook the back of the dog harness through each of those in several seconds instead of jury-rigging it to the seatbelt or some other inefficient way.

u/BigArmsBigGut · 3 pointsr/aww

My dog used to do this too. Well he didn't cry, but he hugged the back wall of the seat. It's the gap inbetween the bench seat and the back of the front seats, the legroom, that bothers them. Something about it made him worried sick.

Anyway get a dog seat hammock. This one is good because it has a piece that slides inbetween the seat and back cushion on the bench and anchors it in place. Others are probably good too. It has the double effect of keeping your seat free of hair/scratches and makes your dog so much more comfortable with driving. They're really easy to put in or take off too, less than a minute to install.

u/BoomFoxxy · 3 pointsr/XVcrosstrek

I've tried most of the ones that others have commented on and I settled with this one: 4Knines Rear Bench Seat Waterproof Non-Slip Cover with Hammock. Seriously the best thing ever. The non-slip coating on the back keeps it in place, the hammock piece that clips up to the front passenger seats keeps my boy from jumping up front or getting my front seats dirty. I have the same thing for my front passenger seat too just incase I have him up there with me. 4Knines Fitted Bucket Seat Non-Slip Cover. One thing that I like about this brand over others I tried is that the covers have flaps that go down and actually cover the side of the seat too. Especially helpful in the back seat to make sure fur and stuff doesn't get everywhere.

I also invested in these handy little things. NAC&ZAC Waterproof Pet Car Door Cover They keep my boy from scuffing up my doors with his giant paws.

Let's see, what else. Oh, I got the cargo net for holding leashes and doggie bags. Genuine Subaru F551SFJ100 Cargo Net, Rear I also keep window cleaner and dash cleaner in there to clean up dog sneeze goo and slobber.

I've got this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CMZ11TX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's been awesome so far and my doggo loves it. It fits perfectly in the WRX and has "anchors" underneath that slide in between the seats to keep the whole thing from sliding around on top of your seats.

There are a number of other decent looking ones on Amazon that also have great reviews, but this one I can definitely vouch for :)

u/linuxguy21042 · 3 pointsr/TeslaModel3

We've had success using a "hammock" that has sides for the doors. Take down one of the door sides, attach the seatbelt to the harness. Our dogs are 50 - 60 lbs they have plenty of room on the seat, we haven't needed a seat extender.

u/solarisfowl · 3 pointsr/teslamotors

Someone posted this really good seat protector for dogs. It was on Amazon and had back and front as well as the door protectors. I'll probably buy that for when we are going on road trips and we need to take the dog. All I'll need to do is clean the windows when she inevitably gets her drool on it. Let me see if I can find it and edit the message.

u/pumpkinskittle · 2 pointsr/samoyeds

I just got one of these for each of our cars and don’t worry about it

u/aurical · 2 pointsr/dogs

I got one of these a few months ago. so far it's held up well. It stays in place and helps the dog feel more secure since she cant fall between the seats. It works well to protect the seats from dirt/damage from other things as well.

If you have a really large dog it might not hold up (the straps that hold it up are a bit cheap), but it holds the full weight of my 45 lb dog easily.

It wouldn't work well as a divider, but we use a car harness for our dog regardless. Even if she was 100% trustworthy (not going to climb into front seat/run out of the car off leash) accidents happen.

If it were not already a lost cause, a seat protector and containment screen like this (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JONT9AK/ref=psdc_3024183011_t1_B01HDQCU74) can be bought for pretty cheap. Will be on my short-list with PetTurf for my brick patio before 65+ pound hound joins my household.

u/Phaedrus0230 · 2 pointsr/volt

I use one of these for my 80 pound boxer.

the rear center console kinda sucks for the dog, but this seems to help. He settles down better with this than without it, and it keeps my seats much cleaner.

u/hesaidwhatupdeezus · 2 pointsr/shiba
u/dil27guy · 2 pointsr/teslamotors

I have this and it works great. The bottom is rubber mesh that keeps it in place and it folds up to fit in the frunk perfectly. Doesn’t protect the doors though, so I keep towels around and of course need to do some serious windexing now and then.

u/DeathsArrow · 2 pointsr/pugs

We use a harness and a seat like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Solvit-Tagalong-Booster-Seat-Medium/dp/B003F76Y6E/ref=sr_1_7?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1487611972&sr=1-7&keywords=dog+car+seat

It gives them a good view of what's going on but is secure so they can't run around the back. Make sure you have a harness on them to clip into the seat. Any harness will do.

u/qovneob · 2 pointsr/ToyotaTacoma

AC or DC? I like these types for my dog in the double cab. I've got a slightly different one but the one linked is super cheap

u/penny_dreadful_mess · 2 pointsr/dogs

Where is she in the car? My dog got much less car sick in a booster seat because she could see out the window. I used one like this . I used a car harness as well because the boosters themselves aren't safety precautions, no matter what the ads say.

u/fiinnh · 2 pointsr/financialindependence

I have this Orvis dog seat cover that I saw recommended many times on Tesla Motor Club. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013W0N0S8?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share it fits the model 3 perfectly and creates a nice little box in your car for the dog almost. The headrest straps don’t interfere with your head or neck at all. One thing is if you want to have 3 people and a dog in the car it’s kind of hard to use.

I also got these to protect the doors: NAC&ZAC Pet Car Door Protection... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AEB7FOY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

As an aside, I rather like the concept of that soft crate like carrier in your link as a possible alternative to containing one's dog in a crash. My issue with the current model would be that I'd never trust a plastic buckle under force and I have no idea of the robustness of the crate seams and material. It seems like an idea that could be improved.

Anyway, I have this hammock, a mini SUV with leather seats and a smooth collie who's no slouch in the shedding department. The side flaps zip up. It has worked quite well for containing hair. The hair we find outside of the hammock is pretty incidental, just a few hairs. Another benefit is the side panel, unzipped and hanging down, covers and protects the side of the seat so he can't scratch it when jumping in or out. When we need to use the back seat for something else it easily folds up, containing the hair within.

We've had this hammock for nearly two years and the leather on the back seats is pristine.

My only issue is that the hammock bottom is rather slippery to the leather seats and Alfie is a weenie about any feeling of the hammock moving when he's in it. I put non-slip carpet padding under the hammock which holds it in place.

Nice puppy! and the truck :)

I bought the amazon basics bench seat cover for my 2018CM. Love it, works great! It just covers the seats, I wish it was slightly bigger though. I have a couple towels down as well, since my dogs are princesses.

I have the bench cover, and then two car seats in the back. One of my dog lays between the carseats. The other dog is in the bed of the truck in a custom box

Dog owners - how do you protect your doors? I just installed these in my 3, but when my windows roll up after closing the door, they push those cards up with them, leaving them barely hanging in there.

u/AdrenalineEdge · 2 pointsr/mazda3

Ahh okay. I was thinking real estate or lawyer. So you don't leave empty-handed, here is some of my experience looking for covers for my dogs. If you want something to cover the whole seat and be waterproof, it is going to cost you money. If you get a normal seat cover, it most likely won't be waterproof. There are a lot of waterproof dog covers for a relatively cheap price but do not cover the headrest. From what you described, you would probably prefer to clean the oil of the headrest than pee on a seat.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HI762M8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I got this one and it's been working pretty well. The little side flaps don't line up perfectly with the sides of the seats, but for $20, I say good enough! The pup loves it too. He likes to lay down with his head cradled, and suspended between the front seats.

u/iguanahotsauce · 2 pointsr/FocusST

I currently use this cover and this harness with one of the seatbelt hooks that connects the harness to one of the seat belts for my five month old Newfoundland puppy.

It works pretty well and it's made from a super durable fabric. The only downside is that it doesn't have any sides to protect the doors or stop him from going into the floorboards, my biggest issue is that he likes to slip between the door and the side of the hammock to get to the floorboard.

I have a coworker that has a GTI and the seat hammock that he has for his car does have sides, I'll ask him where he got it and I'll post a link once I find out.

u/theprimeministr · 2 pointsr/FocusST

Firstly, cute dog!

My doggo is currently not allowed in my car, but we have this cover for my girlfriend's car and it stays put very well. The underside has little rubber grippy dots that hold well to the leather seats, there are elastic loops that go around both the front and rear headrests, elastic on the corners that you can use to secure the corners to the rear seat uppers, and extra long straps that velcro which would allow for securing along the bottom of a seat if it was possible. It's not possible in her car, but we manage to tuck some of the excess fabric in between the seat and the sides of the car and it holds tight. Also, there are some padded flaps that are tucked into the rear seats between the bottom and the upper that very securely hold the cover in place. It honestly hardly moves once it's installed.

For door panels, we purchased these but haven't technically used them yet. I imagine it would work fine, and I know it will fit in the FoST (tested it). But it would require applying a little velcro to the door panel if you wanted to get a more secure fit.

As for biting the seat cover, we haven't had that problem with our pup because we spent a lot of time training her on what she is and is not allowed to chew right when we got her (I read a lot about this and was worried she was gonna destroy everything so I was extra prepared, lol). I would recommend throwing a chew toy in the seat with her so she will have something that she enjoys and can chew on while she's in the car. If she's not searching for something to chew on, then you will be able to worry less about her chewing on the seat cover.

I can't comment on how to keep the fur from getting everywhere, though, and this is the main reason why I haven't let my pup ride in my car yet. She sheds like crazy and fur flies everywhere when we open the windows while driving.

u/luder888 · 2 pointsr/XVcrosstrek

Call me obsessive but I ordered the following items to protect the backseat. This is what it looks like:
https://i.imgur.com/HotX31j.jpg

I lay this extender on the backseat first. It fills the gap and allows my dog to utilize the entire backseat space:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PR25321/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I then put this soft hammock above so I can further contain him by zipping up the sides:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PMMQD5M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This screen prevents him from sticking his head to the front seats and drool over them:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004PLTJ8Y/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Finally these protect the doors. I use the plastic inserts but I had to cut them shorter because they wouldn't insert all the way in:

IDK where it's gone, but this one has done us very well.

Our dog left our previous hammocks looking like the sling that lowered the cow down into the Raptor cage in Jurassic Park. So far after many hours of use (20+) this one looks pristine as the day we got it. Easy to clean, easy to maintain, and easy to set up.

They've also got matching side door covers which is great because our dog drools like he's paid to when in the back of the car.

There's an Amazon Basics one for $20.

IMHO, it's slightly too small width-wise -- I'd like it to cover more of the outside edges of the seat for entry, but other than it's decent and so far has been pretty durable for me and my 95 pound pit-dane mix. I've run it through the washing machine twice without any ill effects (air dry).

u/srg717 · 1 pointr/AustralianCattleDog

They're made for doggies, but sure, I don't see why a human couldn't enjoy it!

We originally got it because he was shedding a ton AND throwing up during car rides. Turns out, he was just blowing his winter coat and now sheds next to nothing. The vomiting was from Giardia & Hookworm. No more crazy shedding or vomiting, but I'm happy to keep my car safe and he certainly likes laying on it and watching us drive when he's too pooped to even stand. Sometimes he'll put his paw over it, and I feel like his personal chauffeur... which I guess I am.

Any portable vac will be good for things like crumbs, pebbles, and larger clumps of hair, but for cleaning upholstery, especially inside the car, I use one of these things: https://www.amazon.com/Gonzo-Pet-Hair-Lifter-Furniture/dp/B000209Z2C It actually does a fantastic job of removing hair, is reusable, and easy to clean. It can take a little bit of getting used to to start, but I've honestly not found much better, especially anything reusable.

But more importantly, a back-seat hammock cover has been a GODSEND for my car!! This is the one I use, and it keeps the back seat safe from muddy paws, drool, any potential accidents, and 95% of shed fur. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DQFZGZ0 It is easy to set up and stays in place - also easy to clean since I can just wipe it down, vacuum it, or even throw it in the washer if I absolutely have to. Also has the benefit of hiding the floor of my back seat. I drive a Nissan Cube so I don't have a covered cargo - this thing lets me hide things during shopping trips where I can't drop anything off in between stores.

Before I got that little hammock, I would just keep an extra blanket or a couple towels in the backseat, and that did a fair job at keeping things at least manageable, so long as I remembered to shake them out or replace them every few trips.

u/pc_clone · 1 pointr/dogs

I think the OP means something like this http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HI762M8/ref=psdc_3024184011_t1_B00HI6HJSA

Just pointing it out because I actually was looking that them yesterday and am interested to see what people think. I was leaning more towards this model http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HI6HJSA/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AH6CEZVYZ2B2C since I am just concerned with keeping my wet dog off the leather seats and she so far hasn't tried to climb around while in the car.

I think either would still allow me to use a harness if I wanted to but the hammock style seems like it might cause an issue since it covers the drop-off and I'd be worried my dog would think it is ok to try and move towards the front.

Me time.

My SO and I would first, go to the dog park together. Protect the car seats and make sure to bring the tennis ball launcher to tire out both pups. Also, here are the tennis balls.

Light this delicious, romantic Woodwick candle. Mood lighting/smells.

Make some homemade pizzas. From scratch, using ingredients out of these canisters and you have to make the pizza together. Sharing rolling and flouring duties. Possibly throw flower. Music should be playing in background, like this Momford & Sons album. Perhaps we'd even bake cookies together.

While pizza is baking, bust out Scrabble or Twister, whichever fits your style. Include drinks.

After getting significantly tipsy, watch movies together, Possibly a few Harry Potter movies.

Read books together. I'd read this new one by J.K. Rowling. Go to bed really late after doing some "adult things" together. Sleep on these warm sheets.

Thanks for the contest. I'm actually single, but this is a future, a-girl-can-dram plan for myself. ;)

Combine it with high-value treats for staying behind the barrier, and my dog doesn't even think about trying to jump it anymore.

There are a few different options, and some might be better than others depending on the size of your dog. Dogs should wear a harness in the car and not a collar (so it doesn't hurt their neck in an accident), then clip the harness either to a seat belt directly using a dog car seat belt or have them clipped in to a dog car seat. I have a dog car seat for my 2 mini dachshunds and use a baby carseat seatbelt for the backseat of my car. Before that, I had a carseat that sat on the center console of my truck, similarly strapped in. The main thing is to keep the dogs from becoming projectiles or being thrown from the car. Even though they'd love to be in our laps, they're also happy sleeping in the car seat and are so much safer for it.

These are some of the ones I've used and can vouch for, but there are a bunch out there:

**Edit: Just for some more info, I travel regularly with my dogs so they've used these for anything from 20 minutes to 15 hour trips before.

I bought this "pet hammock" seat cover from Amazon. Best $20 I've ever spent, fits well in my G1. It should fit just about anything. Keeps the seats clean and protected from claws and keeps the pets from falling onto the floor between the front and back seats.

I got a waterproof hammock type one. Very protective, relatively easy to remove, and very secure.

Similar to this. I definitely like and appreciate mine.

I don't know about a full crate. It might be a tight squeeze trying to get one in there unfortunately. I just put one of these in the back of my car to keep the seats protected https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075MCHYZV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.

I bought the XSE last week and I have 3 corgis (SO MUCH FUR). I haven't had them in the back of my car yet but I already bought a seat cover/hammock. I bought this one because it goes up the sides and my dogs love to stand on their hind legs and watch through the window. This will protect the sides.

I previously had a 2008 Rav4 with fabric seats and they were grey. The dog hair wasn't noticeable but it was a bitch to get it out of the fabric. There was dog hair everywhere and the car just smelled like straight dog. The softex will make it so much easier to clean up. Plus I got all weather floor mats.

I might buy a better one later once the XSE has been around long enough that they've made more covers specific to the seats.

It's a doggy car seat. Puts her up high enough to see out the window and it has a lead to clip to her harness so she stays safe.

I use this for my car and his harness which I don't have a link to came with a little strap that I could tie to the middle seatbelt and pull through the little slits in the cover. (I think the third picture has a good view of those.)

So any cover with a slit in the middle would probably do well? A little hair and dirt does tend to get in through the slit once in a while, but it's not enough for me to care.

I bought this and it's been really reliable.

I ordered this one... it just arrived. Matches the orange stitching!

Still don't have the car yet -_-

Back seats are generally fine. You might want to invest in a seat cover - they provide a nice non-slip padded surface and protect your car seats. Good ones can be found for less than $40. I have this one, but there are many to choose from: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013VPZTAQ/

I have this for my backseat: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DQFZGZ0/

Covers the entire thing nicely (Jeep Grand Cherokee) and it's easy to install/remove when I transport the dogs.

I got this one from Amazon (a bit pricy, but I think the quality is better, at least I hope it is) Since there are slightly cheaper ones on Amazon.

It has velcro slots to fit your seat belts through it. I've only had it for a week but it seems to work. I got this one so our dog doesn't jump into the front seat area.

We bought the kyjen/outward hound convertible cover from Amazon for ~$20. You can use it as a hammock, or release the front straps to use as a regular cover. It has worked great for our muddy wet puppy!

I use thispet seat cover from Amazon. It straps to both front and back seat head rest. However, i took off the back seat head rest off because it blocks my view when i need to drive in reverse. So i use the rear seat belts to strap on the pet seat cover.

Weathertech for floor mats, Amazon Seat Cover for the rear bench.
