In my experience I’ve had bad results with scrunchies being too tight and leaving crease marks.

Get yourself a pack of spiral hair ties. They’re amazing. They stay in place and you really only need to wrap them around your hair once. One of my top curly hair purchases.

u/fennelouski · 15 pointsr/photography

Did she do her hair that day? Did you show her some of your pictures in a similar style ahead of time? Did you deliver on matching the style that they (probably) saw ahead of time? If you followed through on capturing the moment and processing the images in a way that's consistent with your normal work flow, then I'd say you're in the clear.

If she really wants a reshoot, offer another session at your normal rate. If she doesn't like that idea, you could offer a discount on another session as compensation since she's not happy with how she did her hair that day.

How did you bill her? If you gave her an invoice, make sure to write the full price and then deduct a discount (Friends & Family usually works well). This way, they know they're getting a discount. That doesn't quite apply here, but it's good advice for any future work of this nature.

Also, I'd recommend keeping hairspray, bobby pins, hair clips, and hair ties. It'll cost you about $20 up front for all of those things but you'll be able to save yourself hours and hours later in editing hair and your clients will be so much happier with you during the shoot. Also, I'd recommend keeping a mirror in your kit as well.

Oh man. Lighting just struck my brain. You know what would be perfect for this? These.

u/PosterGhosts · 7 pointsr/curlyhair

Devacurl's clips are $13 for only 8 clips, which is absurd. If you look these curls up on Amazon you can find much cheaper ones, which is what I did. Here is a link to the ones I ordered. They work great, but I'm still trying to figure out how to use them!

I buy the medium-sized version of these jaw clips:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001QX7NTQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1377048608&sr=1-2&pi=SL75

Then gather my hair at the nape as though I'm going to put it in a low ponytail, then twist it together, and twist it up into a pseudo-French twist. The curls then spill over the top of the clip in a very stylish, but neat, way!

u/Pillows2010 · 5 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I usually will towel dry it thoroughly then drive with all the windows down in the car and it dries extremely quickly. If you get one of those towels that absorbs water, those are amazing too.

Theres one that works well, so you get an idea of it.

I think /u/HopelessSemantic should be gifted. I know she's my wife, and I might be biased, but there are reasons for this.

She is an amazing and wonderful person. She's super kind and always makes me happy. Without her my life would be empty and devoid of any meaning. She lights up my entire life with happiness. Despite always being in pain she still finds the will to do the house things around the house. Like cooking and baking and cleaning. I don't know how she does it, and I count myself the luckiest guy in the world for just having known her. Pretty hair clip should cover the five dollar item.

I official name is spiral or cord hair ties. Couldn't remember the right word last night. You can find them on amazon or at drugstores. I've seen them in two sizes and they come in different coatings (plastic, rubber or cloth).

Goody makes some with rubber grips on the hair ties. They work really well. They're the stay put line.

They break your hair though, so they're really only for working out and not meant to be worn daily for hours.

u/ario62 · 4 pointsr/CatAdvice

Ever since I saw the pic of a bunch of hair ties that had to be removed from a cats stomach, I won’t let my cats play with them either. But they love the phone cord type hair ties, which don’t seem like a hazard to me (if anyone knows any different please let me know!) I don’t have this exact brand but it’s the first thing that came up for me in google. Mine are the same concept but j got them at michaels craft store for super cheap.

u/eidolonwall · 3 pointsr/Hijabis

You would think so, but I find that usually they don't. These are clips that look like these, BTW.

u/baldpatchouli · 3 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

I have super thick hair and I don't blow-dry. I use an ultra absorbent hair towel like this one to speed up the drying process- that'll get me about 75-90% dry, depending on how long I leave it on. Then I use Aveda light elements on my slightly damp hair and put it in a braid or a low bun for my walk to work and my hair is totally dry (and not frizzy) by 9 AM.

When my hair gets really dry, I also use argan oil on it, especially the ends. it can cause a greasy appearance, so I only do it if I can wear my hair up, but it does help.

Protip: Those elastic headband thingies (the ones that look like giant hairties) make THE BEST cat toys evar. You can fling them like hair ties but you don't have to worry about kitty getting too zealous and choking on it and it's large enough that kitty can kick and pull it. Seriously, they are my cat's favorite toys.

Here is my list! This was very fun to make. My dream is to go to Woodward Gymnastics Camp! I adore gymnastics and I have not been able to do it for a very long time. I miss it a lot, and every summer, I day dream about life amongst the Woodward gymnasts and coaches. I do know, however, that if Woodward stops taking adults before I can attend, there are other adult gymnastics camps out there, and that is very comforting.
This was a great contest! lol I never really thought about what I wanted or needed, I just knew I wanted to go!

When my hair was short I went with a wide spandexy headband (with a bead of silicone around the edge to make it grippy like this) plus whatever was long enough to pull back in a ponytail secured with a grippy hair band like these, which happen to be the grippiest hair ties I've ever used by a long shot.

It was not an attractive look sans helmet, but it got the job done.

Those buff things look like they could be great for helmet-funk-prevention in addition to keeping the hair under control. If you try them let us know how it works!

That was just an example! It doesn't happen to everyone so I hope I didn't scare you! At least you'll be aware of the cause if it does happen!

Youcan find them on Amazon and at your local beauty supply store! Satin is a cheaper alternative and works just as well!

The ones I have: scarf

Others: bonnet, pocket bonnet, silk lined cap

And there's a ton of videos on YouTube on how to tie them, I could send you a video if you need one! You can. There's a bunch of different techniques like pineappling, but you could also just tie it like a bandana and keep it simple!

Hair clips, especially the rounded little clamps. I use these to keep all my wires neatly together. Clips picture

u/blueflowers · 2 pointsr/AskWomen

I usually put it up in a scrunchie. They make small ones now!

u/AMoonlightSerenade · 2 pointsr/weddingplanning

Hi everyone! I'm trying to decide on a veil and want opinions. My venue is outdoors and the train is being shortened to around court length. As you can kind of see, there's a tulle bow in the back, so it's a little hard to decide on a veil. I will also have off the shoulder sleeves, but they're tucked in here. What do you think of this veil? Is a split veil with two pieces of tulle a thing? Maybe a shorter veil? :/

u/oh_my_glob_22 · 2 pointsr/curlyhair

Yasss! I think they're these or something very similar. The ones I have are the size of a normal hair elastic, and they're black and scrunchie-like, but with sort of smoother material. I got them at Walgreens! Nothing wrong with a little Saved By the Bell realness though. lmao

u/SuB2007 · 2 pointsr/curlyhair

Pretty sure they were talking about this or something similar.

u/LittleSnarf · 2 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I have this same problem too! What works for me is snap clips instead of bobby pins, one above each ear. They lie flat, you can get them in a color to match your hair so they are less noticeable, and don't slide.

Basically anything like this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008S5743A/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?qid=1396967283&sr=8-6&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70

I have tried quite a few things for keeping multicore builds straight, allow me to save everybody the pain and bit of money of experimenting with this essay.

---

Aw man, those things sucked for me, assuming we bought the same ones... too weak, made of plastic and too large to be tight enough. Amazon disappointed me with this one. Glad they're working for you though!

Paperclips bend your wire and can screw everything over, especially if they're not tight enough. I tried special "Owl" paperclips and they still bent the wires like regular paperclips did.

Hair snap clips SERIOUSLY bend up your wire and don't even want to clip shut most of the time. Avoid, at least these particular ones.

Clothespins are too weak as well, at least the wooden ones.

I tried... I am not sure what they're called, they're the squeeze things that are on the strings of a hoodie, and the ones I bought were too weak, but would've worked nicely if the spring was better. These aren't the exact ones I bought, but they're the same thing.

I purchased two different Micro chucks (number 2) for my drill, they fit into the drill and have four jaws, but they're impossible to tighten enough for them to be worth using, your wires just fall out. Disappointing.

I purchased a Jeweler's Hand Vise and it works great, except that it comes out of the drill at a slight upward angle, with longer wires it causes everything to jerk around a bit which can snap 38g+ if you're not careful, especially at faster speeds, but besides that it's a great tool that I use all the time. Everybody should have one of these!

I bought a set of those fancy Patino's alien makers and mine are the older ones that need to be broken in first and believe me I've tried jamming many, many different things into those 3DPrinted pieces of crap to no avail, but the newer version apparently don't need to be broken in so I'm not absolutely writing them off.

Aaanyways, I found, on the floor while buying groceries, this tiny keyring. I have no idea where to purchase one, but it's about the size of a USD Penny and it's made out of what looks to be 14/16 AWGauge wire that had been wrapped around a sharpie three times. It's tight as hell and works the best out of anything I've ever used, I just wish I could find where to actually buy it.

Besides that, the old ribbon slider trick works well enough most of the time, just gotta carefully crimp them down with flat-nosed pliers.

I saw this thing and I'm incredibly tempted to purchase or make my own, as I believe it would be one of the most useful tools.

Last but most promising is this contraption and this one seems to be the improved 2.0 version. I would purchase one if I still had problems because I'm certain it would work amazingly, but the jeweler's hand vise works well enough, even with the jerkiness.

TL;DR, my personal suggestion is:

The absolute best thing I have discovered to keep multiple cores straight is a technique rather than a tool: put your wires into the drill chuck as straight as you can, bending them into Ls to match the three jaws and wrap 36-40g wire around the starting point of the wire like twenty times for about half of a centimeter and then crimp it down hard as you can with pliers while not bending the cores. It works so well that you don't even need to use anything else if you do it just right!

Hope all this can help you guys, feel free to share this information wherever with whoever whenever needed.

If you do buns I highly suggest using either spin pins or bun pins to keep your hair up instead of a hair tie! creaseless hair ties work great to avoid breakage and I hear invisibobbles or "hair coils" work great too. (Somebody else also suggested these)

u/br1cktastic · 1 pointr/curlyhair

Yes! That is what I end up doing now is a bun usually in the back. I got these new hairties that don’t mark up or pull your hair the coiled ones. So far they’re great! no pull hair ties

u/h4pp7 · 1 pointr/Fitness

Can you do a french braid to keep those small hairs out of your face and (if it still ends up very long) roll it up into a bun? I usually do a braid starting at my side part to hold back small hairs/bangs and tuck it into a french braid. This usually keeps my hair untangled as long as i use big chunks of hair in the braid. They sell them at Sally Beauty Supply stores which is better than having to pay shipping. I use them and allow your hair to dry more while plopping. Personally I plop overnight with it, but my hair still doesn't dry all the way by the morning so I'm still experimenting...

I like spectrum coconut oil, which is carried at whole foods. I use it as an occasional mask when i have some time to let it soak in and then wash it out well at home. any brand will do through!

Whenever I shower, I use head & shoulders 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner AS my shampoo, followed by [this mask] (http://www.sephora.com/dont-despair-repair-deep-conditioning-mask-P388628?skuId=1784636&icid2=products%20grid:p388628). When I get out of the shower I use this towel that doesn't break my hair because it's microfiber. Then I rub this camellia oil through my hair with my fingers and lay it on really thick if my hair's looking dry. I don't brush my hair anymore because I'm too afraid of breakage.

I sleep on this pillowcase which has helped to not break my hair as well!

Take fish oil capsules if you aren't already, they will help. Lay off of styling products and take a break from brushing if you can.

I didn't get much in the way of advice on the other sub, so I was hoping to get some here! Also belt advice. Here's one, a drop veil, I was thinking of, but I'm not sure. The problem is, I have this tulle bow thing in the back that sticks out a bit, so it makes the belt/veil situation tricky. Thanks for any suggestions!

The wedding is outdoors at a summer camp, and I plan to wear a veil just for photos/the ceremony.

Edit: It has off-the-shoulder sleeves but they're tucked in this picture.

If you don't have them already I highly recommend the phone cord hairbands

( https://www.amazon.ca/Kitsch-Hair-Coil-Piece-Transparent/dp/B01G4GPPY4/ref=sr_1_3?crid=XM4H1BWGJQJI&keywords=phone+cord+hair+ties&qid=1557407374&s=gateway&sprefix=phone+cord%2Caps%2C168&sr=8-3 )

Or any other brand really. They're softer on the scalp and they don't pull hair at all. The pony stays up while I climb and weightlift.

u/BYE_FUHLEESHA · 1 pointr/curlyhair
u/stardustcross · 1 pointr/ShredditGirls

Sure, or you could reply here/make a new thread? I'm probably not the only one interested.

That sounds interesting, it means a person can keep it on when they go for lunch or whatever. One less thing to take off in those crowded chalets is a plus. I guess you could also cool off too when needed...

As for the hair part, I actually use some velcro things (something similar to this - http://www.amazon.com/Velcro-Fringe-Without-perfect-putting/dp/B004X80AQO) to keep hair out of my face sometimes when I'm washing my face.

As long as the velcro isn't super strong, it's good, and stays in place until I take it off to go out. It is perfect for hair because it's very gentle when you take it off your head. I'm not sure something like that would be also secure enough for what you're making though. Anything stronger + hair probably will means some snagging, but probably would be fine if the "hook" part isn't in a position that would touch hair.

u/sydn00b · 1 pointr/Dreadlocks

or, if your hair is too thick, buy a pack of these and double them. Thicker headbands are awesome too just to keep your hair out of your face!

you are going to bowl 628 tonight And my choice

u/Mark12547 · 0 pointsr/whatisthisthing

It reminded me of a piece of a metal hair snap clip, missing the outer part of the clip.

Edited to add:

But u/meghareaux's guess could very well be right: the odd bend could be to hold a pull-out keyboard drawer in the out position so it doesn't move around while in use, but a firm push would overcome the spring effect and allow the drawer to slide back into its recess. So you might check if the channel of a pull-out drawer might be missing that part.
