Some people are just oblivious, don't want the hassle, or so well off they don't even care. I worked with a women who gave away two stainless steel patio heaters on craigslist because they were redoing their deck in earth stone with copper / bronze accents.

Ah, in Amazon it shows $1150 + $450 shipping.

Oh yeah, they are selling it for $1000 in Etsy.

It’s not exactly little. But it makes a mean steak!!

As far as I know they should be contained and small. Per the website

>Please extinguish all flames and grills before entry or departure from the game. (No open burning in garbage cans or on the ground)

If it gets to big or not in an enclosed side fire pit they might extinguish it.

My boyfriends room gets disgustingly hot as well and its the only room in the house that does so.

One big thing i noticed is that he has zero air circulation in his room lol. So, i put a fan directly infront of his window with the front facing his room and the back to the window. It will draw the air into the room. I also set up another fan that blows out his door and made sure at the end of the hallway, the window in that room is opened. So it kind of creates a fan-made air circulation system.

Other than strategically placing the fans, consider getting a mister that u can mount onto a fan? Or a mister fan that blows it out constantly? We all know we get extra cold when we step out of the shower/pool because our bodies are still wet and the wind is blowing on us. These mister fans use a similar logic! Here is a cheap one: Daite Foldable Handheld USB Mini Misting Fan Cooling Humidifier, 55ml Water Tank, 3 Adjustable Speeds, 1500mAh Rechargeable Battery, Portable, Desktop Umbrella Hanging https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B06Y47QP2D/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_nOyJBb50FB426.

Cool, you have a lot more people to worry about heating than I do ha! I personally use this one (Amazon - $57) because there's 2 people at it and it folds. The legs are wobbly and need some fixing before use though. Still a good option is portability is very important.

But for bigger groups, I see a lot of people using custom ones similar to this (Amazon - $87) since they are deeper and throw more heat to the sides. They do seem to let out a lot more floating sparks as it settles so these might put small holes in nearby tents if you add a lot of wood.

FWIW my next one will probably be this one since it has a top and opens from the side - easier to add wood when it's burning hot imo! Plus it still has those little ports for foot heat. I just wish it was something other than woodland creatures cut into the metal ha.

Good luck!

I'm going to head to dump and look on craigslist but if I can't find anything suitable and feel like paying... what do you think of this?

It is perfect size (my stones have an inner diameter of ~32") at 28" diameter inside. It looks 2" space between the metal and the stone. I assume that's sufficient?

It's also the same height as my stacked stones.

I'm not sure it's bad that the ring hangs on the top of the stone edge. But not sure how hot that will get an how much heat will transfer. That's the biggest downside I see. Other than cost.

The one thing that's troubling is that all the corrugated metal rings I find that they sell are galvanized steel. Heck a lot of steel is galvanized. I'm fairly certain that creates toxic fumes. But then they sell galvanized rings FOR FIRE PITS. So maybe I'm wrong?

This one is just painted. I'm sure the paint will come off but won't get poisoned by toxic fumes (I think it's some sort of zinc or something).

Hmm, we tried radiant heaters but found that they weren't really heating the area more efficiently than the electric floor registers that were costing us money. They were floor units though, not really something that would go above a desk. Are you talking about something like this? https://www.amazon.com/Ceiling-Radiant-Heater-Electric-Outdoor/dp/B01L76CRR4

I was considering a tarp when I was first planning it out, but they were too heavy for my original plan. (hanging it from the walls and then supporting the center from above) I guess I didn't consider it again after thinking about a PVC-based support system. Maybe something like this but a bit bigger? Or I guess I could tie two of them together... https://www.amazon.com/Arcturus-Heavy-Duty-Survival-Blanket/dp/B01H4VAKYS

I don't know much about insulation, so I apologize if I have this wrong, but I think if I'm blocking the airflow that's a good start, but the heat would still leak out over time with R1 wouldn't it? The more heat I can keep in the less I have to run the heater to keep the space warm, I just don't know how to find the most efficient balance between weight and insulation. Would that just be R2?

And yeah... I've lived in cold houses before when I couldn't afford to turn on the furnace. It's definitely doable, but it's kind of miserable. I would be warm when bundled up but I would feel claustrophobic and start to panic, so I'd take things off and then I'd be cold and it would just cycle. I would prefer to look at what can be done to improve things before telling him to just toughen up.

Making a fire inside the brick paver ring will make the bricks in the ring hot. They'll expand/contract and can break.

If you put a metal insert inside, the bricks will last longer.

Example of an insert:

Black, or a couple of this. Larger size I have seen only in store, at Big Al's Pets.

Thank you for the suggestions!

1/4" does seem a bit more practical. I originally saw the above listing with the 1/2", so that's what I thought I should stick with. But the 1/4" kit you just posted does seem better.

However, since those are on 1/4", I would need a 1/4" tubing. Would it be as easy as something like this?

https://www.amazon.com/ft-Flexible-Misting-Tubing-Line/dp/B06XGLVVYY

Also, since that valve has a 1/2", are there any adapters that I could connect that valve to the 1/4" tubing? (One side threaded for the valve, the other side goes into tubing)

Target and Amazon sell firepits for pretty reasonable prices.

u/Second2n0ne · 1 pointr/CampingGear

The first one. I have Camp Chef Propane Outdoor Portable Campfire https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000L4HSH8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_TCq6AbCE1H7AC
Basic and gets the job done. Surprisingly durable as we use it by saltwater all season long and we have humid fall and winter. I think that's where CFIAC fails. The burner is not cast iron (neither is campchef) it is some 2 piece welded together pot metal ring which begins to flake and adds to the soot. The burner on the campchef looks great after 3 years with no signs of corrosion. If I could have it my way, I would get a stainless burner like the outland. Even thought of gutting the CFIAC and buying one of these onlyfire 12-Inch Stainless Steel Round Fire Pit Burner Ring, Double Ring https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KV2USXK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_0Vq6AbRY75P77
