Tupperware’s citrus peeler looks like that. I love my “orange opener”
It used to be you could only get them by winning a game at a Tupperware party. But now you can buy them in packs of 10 on Amazon

After looking at the photos in this thread of the peelers that a number of users who claim to have bought off Joe posted, I noticed that the peeler says "star" on the side and the blade and handle match. It appears to be this peeler: http://www.amazon.com/Zena-Swiss-Potato-Vegetable-Stainless/dp/B0035AUEC6

u/smp208 · 11 pointsr/INEEEEDIT

I normally agree but there are a couple that save a lot of time and that I use often enough that they're worth the drawer space. That includes citrus juicers and the avocado tool that was briefly shown in the video.

This right here is the best peeler for potatoes and thin skinned items.

u/shamus727 · 6 pointsr/KitchenConfidential

If your looking for a new peeler it doesn't get better than than a good old Kuhn Rikon

u/GrannyBandit · 5 pointsr/redneckengineering

You need one of these.

Does all three at once, works great.

u/metaljellyfish · 3 pointsr/entwives

Wow it seems like we have an unconscious entwives book club.

Girl I feel you on the matching measuring cups. I just bought myself some matching measuring spoons cuz it's just unnerving otherwise.

Edit: Also, my stepmom got me one of these for my birthday last month. I cannot recommend them enough.

u/CityBarman · 3 pointsr/cocktails

I only recommend Cocktail Kingdom or Barfly tools to pros who use them hard and can justify spending the money. I have stainless tools, of lesser quality, that I've used hard for 30 years. They still work as good as they did when new. I suppose a good analogy is automobiles. You can buy yourself a Toyota. It's affordable, reliable and does pretty much everything most of us ask of it. You can also get yourself a new BMW or Benz. Are the German cars nicer? Sure! But you pay for the luxury. The only things "Cocktail Kingdom" that I own are weighted tins that I purchased soon after they were released (many years ago). But I was Manhattan based and Cocktail Kingdom was the only brick and mortar store that actually carried weighted tins. Today, we have more options.

I know at least 6 pros who are very happy with this set @ <$40. You get the weighted tins, which is the biggest change in modern bartending. You also get a lifetime guarantee and Prime shipping. If you want one, you'll need to add a heavy-bottomed mixing glass for stirred cocktails, a Y-peeler and perhaps an OXO jigger and microplane. I suggest you save yourself some cash and put it towards ingredients. Otherwise, Barfly sells a decent kit for $171 that you'll still have to add to. Cocktail Kingdom is even more expensive.

TL/DR: The fancy tools aren't necessary at all. If you want the Cadillac of bar gear, however, go for it.

Personally, I invested in a Julienne Peeler... if you can call $10 investing :)

http://www.amazon.com/Julienne-Peeler-Vegetables-Professional-Satisfaction/dp/B00HIAXFCK

Mostly I use zucchini noodles for soups, but I have also made the thicker noodles for a 'lasagna' of sorts.

Additionally, I try to not waste my money on things like Atkins bars, I prefer to make fat bombs or portable 'fat snacks' that can be frozen and carried around easily.

u/Gajatu · 2 pointsr/JUSTNOMIL

I'm just going to leave this here.

It has greatly, GREATLY enhanced my efficiency at making apple pie/crisp/etc. 10/10, heartily recommend.

u/donkeycentral · 2 pointsr/BuyItForLife

Been using this almost daily for three years. I liked the "Y style" more than the swivel peelers:

http://www.amazon.com/OXO-Good-Grips-Pro-Y-Peeler/dp/B0000DAQ5E

u/moore2cw · 2 pointsr/fitmeals

I got this guy for christmas, wish I had bought it sooner. Have already made a few batches of zucchini noodles for pasta. Did a normal pasta with a meat sauce. Last night made the noddles, cooked up some sausage and onions and added a little pesto. Was really good.

I really like the zucchini noodles and I want to try the carrots. Have also done spaghetti squash which is good as well. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Microwave Cover: basically is just an easy way to cover dishes in the microwave so they don't splash, without having to use paper towels

Orange Peeler: exactly what it sounds like, in that it is a device to help make the peeling of citrus less frustrating.

u/cphcider · 2 pointsr/BuyItForLife

Meanwhile these orange peelers seem ridiculous but they're legitimately great at what they do. (Also they take up 0 room in a drawer.) I don't own one now (mom had one growing up) but... I may own 4 in 2 days...

Since /u/kittehmew said I could do more than one, here are mine.

/u/UndergroundPhoenix. He/She no longer has a wish list in his/her flair, so I cant choose a gift. Which I didn't know. But I'm going to put him/her here anyway, because he/she totally deserves a whole lot because he's/she's an awesome person. And I totally feel stupid right now for not knowing his/her gender. Sorry!

/u/Sieberella: She's a great friend, and I always enjoy talking to her. She has these as the highest priority on her wishlist and I think she definitely deserves them.

Oh, man. There are so many people I want to put here, but I'm going to keep it short. Those I didn't put, I appreciate you a whole bunch and love you all!

u/theologie · 2 pointsr/1200isplenty

Honestly, no need to waste all that money. I made Zoodles with a julienne peeler and it works perfectly! I bought this one on Amazon for less than 10 bucks! http://www.amazon.com/Priority-Chef-Julienne-Vegetable-Stainless/dp/B00HIAXFCK

u/VulturE · 2 pointsr/specializedtools

I was trying to think of what unitask tools that I have, but I don't have that many:

  • a watermelon knife
  • a belgian waffle maker that came with a one-off measuring cup for the batter and no markings on the side
  • orange peelers
  • grapefruit spoons

I definitely use the orange peelers in every lunch I make for my wife as they're convenient, but I sorta wish I had gotten a standard waffle maker with changeable plates. I also use the grapefruit spoons as tea/coffee stirring spoons when I don't feel like using a normal spoon on the task.

This will make quick work of a butternut squash. Be very careful, it is razor sharp.

Best ones I've ever used. Abused in a high volume kitchen. Stays sharp forever.

u/CatsCatsHiyah · 2 pointsr/ehlersdanlos

Try one of these!

I don't cook much anymore, but I used to be able to use this pretty easily. Just don't try to slide it on all the way; I wore it around the 2nd knuckle of my middle finger.

u/Derpahontas · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon
u/Xyzpdq0121 · 2 pointsr/keto

I agree with u/truttle getting ingredients or a keto cookbook might be a good way to go.

You can get her a spiralizer

I would say that is she was further along in her diet, you could get her some ketocookies but when people start out, it can trigger cravings.

u/origami_rock · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Do you have one of these?

u/ppngo · 2 pointsr/Cooking

I prefer Swiss Peelers - Kuhn Rikon https://www.amazon.com/Kuhn-Rikon-2781-Original-4-Inch/dp/B000H7O3QS

I prefer this style grip, you can get long even strokes with it and the blade stays put but is easy to remove to clean. it even has a little potato eye scooper

u/altaltaltpornaccount · 2 pointsr/Cooking

I can peel potatoes much faster using this type of peeler. YMMV.

A lot of people don't know that you can use the backstroke to peel twice as fast.

u/Statuethisisme · 2 pointsr/Cooking

I can't help you with yours, but, I have three types, listed from worst to best:

Victorinox do not buy one of these unless you have extremely weirdly shaped hands. I cannot hold onto this properly, the handle is flat and wide, it should be oriented 90° to the blade.

Ikea peeler, this works well, is easy to hold with a large handle, doesn't have as good clearance as the one you have shown, but is OK. Biggest down side is the weight, it is bastard heavy. Would not recommend.

Culinare peeler of which I have two. They handle nicely, are light and very sharp, could do with more clearance, but due to the sharp blade and shallow depth of cut they don't tend to jam very much at all.

See my other posts in this thread, but to sum it up: Shun knives are considered a joke by serious cooks.

The 600$ Shun is trying to charge students for that selection of knives is a rip off. No one needs more than 2-3 knives for at least the first couple years of their career, which will be spent doing basic prep and line cooking. You won’t be doing any butchering or specialized work till further on anyways.

And when you do, do your research and buy them piece by piece. At that point you’ll be working with and learning from more experienced chefs who will be more than happy to point you in the right direction.

Here’s a suggestion to get you started:

8” Chefs knife

Paring knife

Bread knife

Ceramic Honing Rod

knife roll

peeler

All of this can be had for around a 1/3 of the price Shun charging and I guarantee you these tools will serve you way better.

Peel delicious oranges with these orange orange peelers! Or, mix ALL of the things!

u/gimpeyjoe · 1 pointr/FastWorkers

Hate to disagree with you, but Joe used to sell Zena Stars as you can see here: http://www.newyorkdailyphoto.com/nydppress/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/JoeAdes2.jpg

Upshot, they're still pretty close to 5 a pop.

This is pretty much a single purpose tool (I guess you could push to two functions if you consider that it scoops and slices in one motion). You would still need a knife to cut the avocado in half and get the seed out.

I did actually buy this Good Grips avocado slicer as a gift for a friend because he eats avocados every day and I was worried that he would slice his hand open with the way he was attempting to get the seeds out. He really likes it, for what it's worth.

u/NoGuide · 1 pointr/ketorecipes

I got one of these just the other week! I used it on a daikon radish the other night to make noodles and it worked like a charm (as long as the veggie wasn't too thin).

u/AnnArborBuck · 1 pointr/keto

I bought this one a few months ago and I love it. It won't make as long of noodles, but it is small and dual purpose (also a normal peeler).

Orange peeler. I love short work weeks. Enjoy yours!

u/producer35 · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

I like this one from Priority Chef the best for the price. It's only $8, works great and I doubt I'll ever wear it out.

u/stonewalled87 · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

This palm peeler would be lovely, though I wish it was covered in Glitter!

I did not even know this gizmo existed! WOW! Just wow..Read the blurb on this one. chuckles

Inspiralizer is the best IMO. I had a Paderno and returned it, it moved to much when I tried to stabilize it. What makes Inspiralizer the best is that the blades are built in so you just turn a knob to change blades. Also the suction feet, clamped feet really do hold down the tool.

Also search 'spiralizer', in case anyone is into looking up more varieties/brands of the product type. I wanted one, but ended up being gifted something like this which I really enjoy as well!
