It is wonderful that you want to adopt a bunny! But be sure to do some thorough research on how to care for one and prepare his space and basic supplies before you bring one home. Bunnies are delicate and not starter pets easy to care for as many people mistakenly think. The summary linked below that I initially put together for myself well give you a a good overview of key bunny care points, what to prepare for, what resources to check out on specific subjects, and places to get things like healthy correct food (pet stores sell a lot of junk to unsuspecting people), housing supplies, etc. I hope it helps you! :)

On you cage question, no, it is really not enough space. Bunnies need at lest 4 by 2 ft MINIMUM permanent enclosure (this is space not taken up by hidy house and litter box you will have to have) and at least two hours every day outside of enclosure to run and explore to stay happy and healthy. Bunnies are very active and curious animals and they are also very social. They will be unhappy in a cage that is too small, please keep this in mind! Good news is that a bunny can be litter trained and can eventually roam you apartment once you bunny proof or if you can at least allow that in one room. ANY STORE BOUGHT CAGE WILL BE TOO SMALL for even a small bunny. A free roaming bunny or once with enough space to run will be much healthier and happier, will not get bored or destructive, and will be much more fun as a pet.

There are lots of videos available out there for how to build a bunny enclosure and set it up, like these: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuv9MX6cA_c&feature=youtu.be

Here are some housing options to check out in advance... I did so much looking for good enclosures that are also apartment friendly.

https://www.etsy.com/shop/LilFroggyDesigns?ref=l2-shopheader-name&section_id=22454708 - great size options and reasonable price, well made

https://www.etsy.com/shop/DutchElves?ref=l2-shopheader-name – wonderful idea, clean and large, also will protect bunny from other animals in the home, if you have any

https://www.etsy.com/shop/ClearlyLovedPets?ref=l2-shopheader-name - unconventional, but could be a nice large set-up that is also good looking for a modern space

http://www.petwerks.com/condos.aspx - well made, fantastic size to space ratio, a bit on an investment

https://www.amazon.com/MidWest-Foldable-Metal-Exercise-Playpen/dp/B000H8YTJI - good old xpen works every time :)

Another idea here using storage cubes and colorplast you can basically replicate the etsy enclosures https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzS82KZ7ADo

https://www.amazon.com/LANGRIA-Storage-Organizer-Products-Portable/dp/B06XR71YW1?ref_=w_bl_hsx_s_ho_web_13643573011 - if you need more cubes for a larger space they have those too, just look on amazon for 56 panel set

Of course having the bunny run free in the apartment is awesome and makes for a happy bunny, but do make sure to bunny proof, especially the wires as they can be really quick to chew on things the second we turn away for a moment. you can try these https://www.amazon.com/Flexible-Polyethylene-Wire-Diameter-White/dp/B00DP35VOO/ref=pd_day0_hl_201_6?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00DP35VOO&pd_rd_r=c021fc64-ba21-11e8-b3e1-116141892cee&pd_rd_w=h8PU9&pd_rd_wg=x0pDz&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=ad07871c-e646-4161-82c7-5ed0d4c85b07&pf_rd_r=W775QYZB2CW29NAJFPZJ&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&psc=1&refRID=W775QYZB2CW29NAJFPZJ

I heated mine on a baking sheet and pressed it between thick foam by hand.

Are you in the US?

There are a number of online plastic companies that you can order from, though eventually when I started making many of them I went through a local plastic distributor when I wanted a full 4'x12' sheet.

It looks like Amazon has decent prices if you are a prime member it is free shipping. (And shipping tends to kill you on this stuff.)

If you are careful with how you cut your materials and if your blade designs nest well, I was able to get two blades out of a 48"x4" piece.

Looking at those Amazon prices the cheapest 1/2" HDPE is grey 48"x30" at $66, and that would be something like 14 blades if tightly cut. Obviously your mileage will vary on your design.

Edit:
One thing I didn't mention in that FMATalk post. A router with a 1/8 roundover bit to finish the edges is massively labor saving and makes the results look professional.

It is 6mm-thick (.25”) white/opaque plexiglass. The size of the bottom sheet is around 150mm x 200mm (6” x 8”) and the top portions are the same size as the PIs. For the bottom sheet, I countersunk the holes so that the screw heads are recessed and don’t scratch the underlying surface. I used an electric belt sander to round the corners after cutting the sheets.

I just had the plexiglass sitting around but you can order it online. This looks pretty similar: https://www.amazon.com/12-Opaque-Acrylic-Plexiglass-Translucent/dp/B01H463HIY/

Thanks!

The top material is acrylic.

You can buy mirrored perspex/acrylic for (relatively compared to actual mirrors) cheap at art supply stores and even on amazon. They're not as pretty as actual mirrors but to get light into a room on the cheap they certainly do the job.

Can't vouch for the quality or pricing on amazon but here's an example of what I mean

Could just use Acrylic discs and museum gel.

With the right glue, maybe construction glue in a caulk-gun, or contact cement, with weight on the product all over the place, you can cut a piece of this material to fit over a large area of your countertop, or maybe the whole thing. Don’t even bother removing any of the other material on the counter, imho, just glue this stuff down, and it will probably not go anywhere. Perhaps check to see if you need a thicker version of this product, but one that will still allow you to cut it with very sharp scissors.

I made it using this acoustic foam, this PVC foam board, and this spray adhesive. Used the PCV foam board so I could double-side it with the foam and it was more sturdy than a piece of cardboard.

The acrylic "glue" is more like a bond, since it actually softens the pieces of acrylic and chemically bonds them together. Was considering bonding two layers together since they are 1/16 sheets but it looks like it is holding together pretty well. I use this tool to cut the pieces, this pack for the standoffs, and finally these m2 5mm screws. Oh also bumpons from hobby lobby for the bottom and I also got in on the aluminum cone feet in the recent drop on massdrop. Final version of the case will have cleaner cuts. Oh also.. I would recommend a step drill bit for drilling the holes, since the acrylic could crack in the drilling process.

You should give this a try with no blue light from above. One can use warm white light with a long pass filter to remove the blue light. Yellow acrylic slab makes a good long pass (and fluorescent!) filter passing green/yellow/red. It will give you a different perspective on growing plants.

I use Cree, 30 degree, 5mm blue LEDs now instead of the cheap Chinese LEDs. 470nm blue can greatly dwarf a plant while 490nm may have the opposite affect (this is sometimes known as the "blue wall" in botany).

Okay, I'm going to screw this up but the link is below. I bought mine several years ago and used red (which looks super cool in the ruck).

ABS Plastic Sheet 3-pack 12" X 24" X 0.0625" (1/16") with Resource Kit for VEX Robotics Teams https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016PESTJS/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_OXQ1CbZ4JCDE5

If you search around a bit you can find multi thickness packs, especially if you go off Amazon and are willing to wait a few weeks for delivery.

If you use multiple sheets they are thin enough to easily bend making them very easy to get in and out of the ruck. One sheet isn't very stiff. But multiple sheets are quite stiff and comparable to kydex.

If you like I can dig around in the workshop and find my stash and snap a few pics.

I always recommend to anyone working with foam core: spring for the matte black stuff, rather than the glossy white cheaper one. Not only can you attach stuff to it more easily (because it's uncoated) I swear the foam is a higher quality and more cohesive throughout, as well as bound to its outer layers better.

At 4'x8' another substrate to consider is corrugated plastic, but you have to pay some attention to which direction the structure runs.

I'm having a really hard time finding a silicone rubber material for a prototype I'm working on right now.

More specifically, I'm looking for silicone rubber sheets like this with one major difference: I need the texture to be matte, not glossy. Best example I can give for the feel of silicone rubber I'm looking for is the same as Apple's official iPhone bumpers. Everything I'm finding everywhere has a glossy finish, which won't work for my application.

More details of what I'm looking for:

  • Durometer of at least 50A
  • Differing thicknesses: ~1mm, ~3mm, and ~6mm
  • If you're aware of a different elastomer that matches all the things I'm looking for, I'm interested!

Thank you in advance for any help anyone can give!
