Seitan is the way to go!

I use this recipe as a base:

https://www.isachandra.com/2011/11/seitan-roast-stuffed-with-shiitakes-and-leeks/

I remove the stuffing and the oil from the recipe. Will change the beans with what I have in the pantry, usually chickpeas. But I have read other people substituting the beans with tofu. I input the recipe into LifeSum and say there are 8 servings total and then cut the roast into 8 equal weighted sections.

I also drink these instead of traditional shakes. No mess and easier to get down for me:

User Ensure Plus or similar, you can cool it down or freeze it, you can also eat cold oatmeal, cold soup (vegetables+ meat+ beans), make smoothies (oats+ +protein powder+ fruit+ milk).

You can pure the fruit add to jello powder and protein powder.

Beans, lentils and chickpeas make great purees.

Some ideas here

If you google blended/pureed diet elderly you will find a lot of resources with good ideas.

I use their double chocolate grass-fed beef protein powder, and I love it. I've been using it for years.

I don't know anything about that story you mentioned.

u/personne-inconnue · 5 pointsr/EDAnonymous

Why not shakes? I feel like they keep me full longer and they seem to have a better calorie to protein ratio.

Muscle Milk (200 cal 40g protien)

Ensure Max Protein (150 cal 30g protein)

If shakes aren't your thing, the premier protein bars are decent!

u/silentvoyager · 5 pointsr/running

My typical recovery drink is a protein smoothie (Vega protein powder, frozen berries, and water or almond milk).

Also recently I discovered Vega Recovery Accelerator, which I think works very well. It is more convenient than a smoothie when I am not at home.

u/clairegardner23 · 4 pointsr/xxfitness

Have you tried the Vega protein powder? I switched from Quest to Vega around 6 months ago because I don't like how many ingredients are in Quest. I use the vanilla and I really like it! I don't even feel the need to add anything into it to besides water. It has 5 grams of carbs per serving.

Vega Protein & Greens was a lifesaver for me during my first trimester. I made a smoothie every morning with just water, a banana and the powder. It is easy on the queasy tummy and has 20g of protein per serving and no sugar 👌Can't recommend it enough! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MYRXIIS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_eHbSAb46D2JVT

I know Philosophie is supposed to be top notch. But they're exxxxpensiveeee. I like Olly brand. It's $20 for maybe 12-14 servings. They have it at Target and Amazon.

OLLY Plant Powered Protein, Protein Powder, 13 oz (12 Servings), Velvet Vanilla, 18g Plant Protein, Vegan https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CL3WPJ5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_7yERCbBB8PYH7

u/Teppiedoo87 · 3 pointsr/veganfitness

Amazon

Check it out on Amazon! It has 20g protein and 2 servings of greens. I don't like it straight, I always add it to smoothies.

u/pezasied · 2 pointsr/Fitness

I rotate between four different protein powders, all are vegan and are sourced from multiple sources (mostly pea, flax, and hemp protein).

My favorite taste wise is the Vega Protein and Greens.

Also from Vega, the Sport Protein is nice, as it has 30 grams of protein per serving vs the 20 per serving in the protein and greens. However, Vega changed the recipe for the Sport a few months ago, and now it makes a super thick drink, almost akin to drinking cake batter. I have to split up the serving just so the drink doesn't become too thick.

The Garden of Life Sport Protein also has 30 grams of protein per serving, and isn't as thick as the Vega Sport, but I think it doesn't taste quite as good as the Vega branded stuff. Not bad though.

Lastly, I'll occasionally buy Orgain as it is the cheapest typically, though it has a somewhat grainy texture compared to the others.

I usually just buy whatever of the four are on sale at my local Co-Op, but if you're going to go with one, I'd recommend the Vega Protein and Greens if you're ok with only 20 grams of protein per serving.

Edit: oh didn't realize you have already had the protein and greens, maybe try the Vega Sport? Also, I buy all four exclusively in vanilla, so I can't speak for the other flavors.

u/10bysummer · 2 pointsr/BTFC

Thanks!

I've been drinking a lot of protein shakes, which allows me to intake a lot of protein without counting against my carb/fat budget for the day. Core Power Elite Vanilla is absolutely delicious, but a bit expensive. OSTRIM jerky is delicious and good for a snack (much lower in fat than regular pepperoni-style snacks).

Lately, I've been taking some 0% Greek yogurt and mixing in chocolate protein powder and some powdered peanut butter. It's a tasty way to get 50g of protein, a good source of Omega 3s, and feels like I'm having dessert.

u/She_Squats · 2 pointsr/xxfitness

So for both whey and casein, I prefer Optimum Nutrition's Gold Standard or Dymatize Elite / Iso 100. My favorite flavors are:

Whey:

  • Optimum's Cake Batter -- 5lb tub for under $60.

  • Dymatize Iso 100's Birthday Cake -- 5lbs for under $65 more expensive than Optimum because it is Iso 100

    Casein:

  • Dymatize Elite's Cinnamon Bun -- looks like Amazon is out of the 4lb tub, but I can usually get a 4lb tub for less than $50 and it is tasty AF.

  • Optimum's Chocolate Peanut Butter -- slightly more expensive than Dymatize, but still a 4lb tub for $55.

One thing to keep in mind with respect to whey and casein protein powder tubs is that although $45-65 seems like a lot of money, gram for gram it is still generally a way cheaper protein source than even chicken breast. It is just a larger cost up front.

With respect to pre-made protein shakes, I love Core Power and Muscle Milk:

  • Core Power with 26g protein and 26g carbs -- I like this mostly for when I am drinking only this as a pre or post-workout thing.

  • Core Power with 42g protein and 13g carbs -- I prefer this as a pre- or post-workout when I am mixing with another carb source (like pouring it over sugary cereal).

  • Muscle Milk Protein Smoothie -- I love the creamy texture of this, and macros are pretty good at 25g protein and 25g carbs for 230 cals.

Premade protein shakes are definitely more expensive gram for gram than chicken breast, etc. But you pay for the convenience.
u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/bodybuilding

Just a heads up for all my milk lovers. Fairlife has a high protein shake with 42 grams of protein in a 14 oz. shake. I've tried the vanilla one and it's absolutely delicious. Bit pricey though.

I'm definitely happy that we have so many options nowadays and that there are so many companies that are creating Vegan products.

Really depends on what you're looking for though. Customization is certainly great, but Vega really shines when it comes to creating high-quality innovative products that are formulated with performance, flavor, and whole food ingredients in mind that I actually trust to put into my body. For the most part their products are not supplements, but whole food powders (no synthesized vitamins and mineral blends that come from a lab, amino acid blends, enzyme derivatives etc. but rather non-GMO powdered food ingredients like greens, spirulina, marine algae calcium, acacia gum, real fruits and veggies, etc.). Price-wise there is really a range now too, Protein & Greens is available on Amazon for about $17/lb, and has 20g of protein and 3 servings of greens in a scoop.

u/jojotoughasnails · 2 pointsr/xxfitness

In that case I use Muscle Milk vanilla. They also have chocolate. I get it cheap at Costco. I put it in my smoothies with fruit/greek yogurt.

I do NOT recommend this stuff. Also at Costco. Does not taste good when mixed in a smoothie.

2 suggestions:

Add Paleo Pro, my personal favorite and a check on all categories.

Make the table header float so that it follows while you scroll, so that user don;t have to scroll back to the top to determine what the check refers to.

u/lavender_ · 2 pointsr/vegan

It's fairly easy to get block ice there so that opens your options up. It gets pretty cold at night and pretty warm in the day. But the ice would last about 2-3 days before we needed to change it.

I would do:

Breakfast: oatmeal with apple sauce and cinamon, protein powder and coffee. I actually like my coffee with the protein powder, but it's usually cold coffee. I haven't tried mixing it in with hot coffee. But if that works, you have "creamer".

Lunch: pb & j and fruit (apples keep for quite a bit of time, especially if you do take a cooler and change out the ice).

Dinner: Soup and crackers.

Snacks: dried fruit, nuts, chips, larabars, vegan jerky, granola

I love broccoli so I’m not opposed to that. Idk what it is about all the meat though it just seems so daunting to me. I tried to eat a steak last night and I got about halfway through 6oz and couldn’t eat any more. Same with burgers.

I just had a 5oz can of chicken mixed with avocado and I cooked Brussels sprouts with bacon and that put me closer than yesterday. I’m gonna have a few berries with some cashew butter before bed and I should be set for the day.

I always forget how high in protein chicken is. I guess I’m just thinking of ways to get my fat out of the way too (since I can’t have dairy) so that usually requires the fattier cuts of meats.

And I’m not opposed to protein powders - I didn’t even think of that. Just looked this up so I think I’m gonna give it a go. If I have one a day I should be set and it doesn’t have nasty stevia in it lol.

Thanks for the helpful response!

u/liteskinnedbeauty · 2 pointsr/Paleo

Cant speak on AIP...but there are paleo protein shakes - made of organic egg white powder basically. I myself take Adderall for AdHD and literally have to set timers to remind myself to EAT! It helps...because missing a meal always causes inflammation for me, ans I pay for it later. As for vitamins, take a higj dosage probiotic. I found my protein powder and probiotics off Amazon!

When I had to go on a liquid diet for a while because my digestive system decided not to digest for a while, I couldn't stomach the regular Ensure. Instead I used a mix of Ensure Clear It's labeled as 'contains milk ingredients' but also says it's good for lactose intolerant people. Now, my issue with regular Ensure wasn't with the lactose, I'm not lactose intolerant or dairy sensitive, it just made me gag. But this stuff is more juice-like.

The other thing I used for Premier Protein Clear.. It's also juice-like instead of milk-like but may contain milk products, dunno. It packs in a ton of protein, though, and unlike the Ensure didn't seem to have much if any sugar. Probably all sorts of chemicals.

I was only on these for a few weeks, though, and lost a lot of weight, which was fine for me but may not work well for others. It's hard to get calories in on these drinks.

u/purpl3rain · 2 pointsr/EatCheapAndHealthy

I like these, they taste good and only 160 calories each

I found Premier Protein Shakes.

https://www.amazon.com/Premier-Protein-Shakes-Chocolate-Ounces/dp/B00AAJRPZY

They're pretty expensive but at Costco a case of 30 is like $37 so much more reasonable. Each shake is 160 calories and 30g of protein. I find them very filling even as a liquid snack.

I dont know redditt etiquette - if its too late to respond, but I'm going to try anyway.

MY partner and I both use vanilla and chocolate gold standard. we buy them at costo when they are on scale. I make pancakes with the vanilla and we drink the vanilla and chocolate. I personally like them mixed together. For my coffee, I add in the premier protein. Its already in a liquid (~75 mL is 40 cal with 8g of protein) so it mixes really well. It takes like really indulgent coffee creamer. we also get them at costo when they are on sale. Heres links to them both:

I dont use social media enough to keep up with something like that. But I do use MFP if you wanted to exchange names!

I buy the "premiere protein" drinks (preferably the caramel) and get a double shot on ice then pour my protein drink over it. Tastes JUST LIKE the caramel macchiato from Starbucks :)

https://www.amazon.com/Premier-Protein-Caramel-Vitamins-minerals/dp/B0753LLMTQ/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1539214894&sr=8-2&keywords=premier+protein+caramel

The premiere protein drinks can be expensive admittedly but it probably ends up being the same as starbucks drinks anyways.

Hi! I also use Vega some of the time to cut down on my dairy intake. Vegan protein powder has a gritty taste and texture. I can't drink it with just water, but it's delicious blended with frozen berries/banana, kale, and water! I've only tried the Vega Protein and Greens in Vanilla as that's what they carry at Costco. You can purchase it on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Vega-Protein-Greens-Vanilla-Servings/dp/B00MYRXIIS

u/crod242 · 1 pointr/veganfitness

Here it is. They also failed to mention that it's Prime exclusive.

u/jerbs24 · 1 pointr/veganfitness

Most on here will tell you True Nutrition. Which, I can agree on some points. However, most of their products are sweetened by Sucralose (secret word for Splenda). I usually like close to 2lbs of powder. Which, could put you around $20 but in the US shipping and handling can run you to around $27.

I like this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Vega-Protein-Greens-Vanilla-servings/dp/B00MYRXIIS/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1522695726&sr=8-3&keywords=vega+protein+powder

with PRIME shipping is free. It tastes very good and it's sweetened by stevia which is a better alternative than sucralose.

Yes, 3FUEL is expensive. Grass fed whey protein hydrolysate (cost driver), MCT's from coconut milk. A good balance of macro nutrients, with minimal sugar - at a premium price. "Balance" being based on Zone 40/30/30 Diet. (9g carb, 7g protein, 1.5g fat = 1 block)

u/ifitstrueillbelievit · 1 pointr/gainit

I'm also lactose intolerant and IMO beef/egg protein is the way to go if you want to avoid the high soy content of many of the vegan/pea protein powders. This is definitely on the expensive side but I've had a really good experience with it and its easy on my system as far as protein powders go https://www.amazon.com/PaleoPro-Paleo-Protein-Powder-Vanilla/dp/B00GSXO38S/ref=sr_1_4_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1519665377&sr=8-4&keywords=paleo%2Bprotein%2Bpowder&dpID=518fRmIVhHL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch&th=1

It tastes fine and I can get it down with just water when I need to. If you aren't concerned about too much soy though you can definitely find much cheaper plant based protein powders.
