Universal Knob Replacement

You really only need the first one and a sharpy.

I don't really think 350F is all that important, 250F-400F will probably get you there, just stir it frequently until it is dry.

Replacement electric burners are pretty cheap. But they should be maintained by the facility, right?

Little-known ProTip, from a former employee of... the company that made that oven:

Sugar, when heated, can caramelize. Glass (including the ceramic glass used in your cooktop) is porous.

If you spill sugar (or something that has sugar in it) onto a hot ceramic glass cooktop, the brown liquid gunk can work its way down into the pores of the glass, and by the time the cooktop has cooled, it can actually be physically impossible to remove without damaging the glass.

The solution is simple, but time-sensitive. You have to clean the mess before it cools down to room temperature. But you also don't want to burn yourself. So wait until the burner has cooled down a bit, then wipe it clean using a damp rag & mild soap or detergent, + possibly a scraper as well.

They also sell stuff that makes the glass non-porous (kinda like Rain-X for cooktops)... it works, but at > $1/oz., it's a little pricey IMO.

We get the carpets shampooed, too, but I bet ya they're going to find a way to charge us for that anyway when we move out.

I just happened to take a peek down that space between the oven and the cabinet the other day and it grossed me out. I've got back problems and I can't move it myself. I just want a clean kitchen!

And I'm totally buying one of these after we get it fixed up.

Considering that they sell pre-made aluminium liners, I don't think they're harmful :-)

My oven has one knob; it goes up to 550 and then after that says "broiler"

so does yours have 2 knobs or switches?

Are you comfortable with and capable of working with gas lines? If not, call a plumber or the gas company and let them deal with it. Typically, the gas company will be cheaper than a plumber, but not all gas companies will service in home lines/appliances. Some will provide materials, others will require you to do so. At the very least, I would get a quote or two. Sometimes it's cheaper and easier to let someone else take the liability. If you decide to DIY, head to a big box retailer and get one of these or these. You'll need that at a minimum. If you can remove the gas line from the flare fitting attached to the valve, you should be able to re-use it. The flare fittings themselves are fine to re-use, it's the flexible gas line that you don't want to re-use. If you can't or prefer not to re-use the flare fitting, I would also get a new gas valve as well as the threads on the existing one are likely damaged. The pipe should be 1/2" NPT. Make sure you can turn off the gas either at the meter, or somewhere upstream of the stove before you attempt to remove/replace the valve. You will need either some thread sealant or Teflon tape (not both). Only seal the threads on the NPT to NPT connections.
