I thought I would put up a quick review of one of the newer Stan Smith models. These are a white leather with gum sole. A little while back, some photos by a sneaker publication were posted (including this photo, more available here). When I saw the photos I immediately knew I needed these sneakers like nothing else, and I don’t usually lust after sneakers in this way. I feel pretty comfortable saying these are the new MFA Killshot, improved in just about every way aesthetically. Yes, they fill slightly different aesthetic roles, but I have a strong preference for these Stan Smith over the Killshots.

Also, to preempt any questions/outraged comments, I do not typically keep shoe trees in these. However, it's easier to take photos of a shoe with shoe trees in it.

The gum sole is durable, but comfortable. It features white flecks throughout that match the upper. Despite any weird coloration of the photos, the upper is a pure white leather. It is lined around the heel cup with a leather lining and on the tongue and vamp with some form of synthetic liner. The interior has a padded, non-removable footbed.

Initially, I was a bit thrown off by the shape, but then I realized I’m way too accustomed to boots, given the recent weather. I threw them on my feet and liked the shape a lot more. Slim toebox, great profile with the sole, and an overall pleasing shape.

Fit is TTS. I’m an 11.5E on Brannock and wear an 11.5 in these. They’re a bit narrow, but are comfortable with wear. For someone with wide feet, it’s not going to get any better unless you get a pair of New Balance.

I ordered these from FootAction when they had a free shipping and a 15% off coupon. The total price ended up being $63.74. I didn’t really think twice about buying them, and they work perfectly with most of my wardrobe. I’m really looking forward to wearing them more as the warmer weather rolls in. I believe FootAction is sold out, but they’re still available from Amazon and Urban Outfitters.

Some shots on-foot: 1 (shamelessly stolen from /u/BAonReddit) and 2 (mine)

I don’t have any full fit pics, but they’re white sneakers. They go with literally anything casual. For some other white sneaker inspiration, check out this killshot album and this white sneaker album (neither album was composed by me).

I AM IN YOUR SITUATION! Just got on this board three days ago. Spent $200 over the past three days and I've drastically improved my wardrobe.

1. Go through the right hand guides of knowing what fits you and what not. If you're an athletic type, go to /r/malefashionadvice there is a post on athletic builds if you fit that description. The most important thing is understanding what fits. I bought a medium out of shame of rather not buying a small convincing myself that the somewhat baggy look was better. I went back to smalls and I realized how much better I looked.

2. Shoes! Get yourself a pair of from what a newbie understands as "classy" shoes. You're in college so you're surrounded by meat heads, swag vags, and sweatpants wearing ants, and the occassional look at me I wear crazy shit. Most of the time, they're wearing Nikes, Addidas, Underarmor, and other shit that you probably have. You'll get the occassional mocassin and boots, but what'll make you really stand out in terms of fashion is your shoes. This is good. MFA is (in my opinion off a brief 3 day lurking): classy, mature, timeless, and just overall attractive male attire.

So! The investment I made were Brown Suede Clarks for $70 @ Journeys in NYC Best investment so far. I've never owned anything so nice yet casual as these shoes. They're extremely comfortable.

For $21 you can get Seude Oxfords at JC Penny. Another cheap and truly great shoe. Just looks plain good with anything. I got mine for $15 because I was very patient and nice to the saleswoman (mid 50s); she gave me a wink and said I'll take some off for ya.

3. Pants I would go again with the suggestion of jeans. 511 - Skinny, 514 - Slim Straight. These are Levi's obviously. I've owned Arizona, Lee, and Wrangler; Levi's are just unbeatable. For $40 and sometimes $30 you can get a pair. I would get one pair of Levi's. Make sure it's a pair you definitely would love.

One pair of Khakis. If you're in New York City, get over to Uniqlo and get yourself a pair of $30 really good quality chinos (khakis). They can be tailored in the store so don't be afraid if you see 33x36 pants or 30x34 pants. They can be cut for free. Otherwise stop by Amazon to get D1 Slims or Alphas.

GAP has a sale going on for 40% off or 30% without a coupon. They have a limited selection of pretty good quality khakis that are fitting and are decent when it comes to price ($40-$50).

4. Tops Old Navy. It was up there that their premium t-shirts are on sale for Buy One Get One Free. They're pretty good quality for $6 bucks a pop ($12 for one, so you get 2 for essentailly $6). I grabbed some myself. Theres a coupon for 10% online somewhere. I used it. However, Old Navy fits may not be so kind on you as they are with me. As their sizes scale, it scales wider; it does not scale with benevolence longer.

Graphic Tees are alright in college. Again plain simple colors/patterns will distinguish you from the highschool attire that even these 2nd semester freshies will be wearing.

For your budget, I would take your time shopping the clearance racks of most department stores. I went to JCPenny the other day and found a slim fitting GREAT purple J. Ferrar shirt for $7. For the way it fits and the decent quality, this button down shirt was an absolute steal. I also bought 2 $12 dollar button downs from Macys that happened to fit me perfectly. Again it's on where you're looking.

Polos Polos are easy to come by. Old Navy has em as do most stores. Whether you like them with a logo or plain, even Ralph Lauren Polos can be spotted on the cheap. Do you barging.

5. Outerwear Cardingans are on clearance in the Old Navy rack for $6-12. I picked up one. I picked up a great fitting hoodie from there as well for $7. Fits me perfect and shows off my muscles /flex.

If you've heard of a store called Against All Odds, they have a good selection of outwear (more swagster area and ghetto-fab), but it's better especially for the athletic fit. They have some sales and the quality isn't atrocious. You can check that out.

Thrifting Theres a thread on the side; hopefully you don't need a link.

Lets Review

  • Take your time, browse accordingly. There is no need to rush.
  • Look everywhere and always check the clearance.
  • Make sure the clothes fit, if you like the style but are a little iffy on the fit do not buy it unless you think it'll shrink on to you.

What I did in the past 3 days:

  • $80 Clarks
  • $22 Bass @ J C Penny's + J. Ferrar Slim Shirt
  • $12 2 Old Navy Premium V-Neck Shirts
  • $8 Cardingan at Old Navy
  • $7 Hoodie at Old Navy
  • $40 Levi 514 Jeans
  • $30 Chinos @ Uniqlo (add 5-10 dollars for Dockers)

    Total: $193

Hopefully that'll set you up. If you're not iffy on spending that much on Clarks, then there is more in your budget for other things like pants or underwear.

Anyways, go here if you want $100 starter kits.

Good Luck and let me know of your great finds.

u/alfreedom · 14 pointsr/malefashionadvice

If you're thinking of branching out from sneakers, you might want to consider bucks, camp mocs, or desert boots. They all can we worn pretty casually, probably with most of the outfits I imagine you're already wearing with those sneakers.

u/LowInFat · 12 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

I can't vouch for that Moc Toe, but I purchased their chukkas a while ago and they're my favourite boots ever. They run large, so size 1 down from your normal size. They're also a bit rigid and tough to break in at first, but aside from that they're fantastic. They scuff really easily at first, but after a couple of weeks they take on a nice look from it. I've gotten plenty of compliments on them. Would highly recommend.

u/red_tide_clams · 8 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Personally I wouldn't go for either. You should definitely throw the Daltons out of the running. Those have a leather sole which will get absolutely destroyed in the snow and salt. I can't really tell from the pics but the Winchesters look like they have a flat sole which may not be very practical for snow and ice. I'd suggest looking into a dress boot with a lugged sole such as the Gentleman Travelers.

u/teoSCK · 8 pointsr/malefashionadvice
u/ehsu · 8 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Yeah, I'm not in love with those GBX shoes either. I really like these or these. For something that works equally well at work or afterwards, this is a good option. Or perhaps these if you're feeling adventurous?

EDIT: I forgot to mention these.

u/Ryan_Firecrotch · 7 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Oh! You're in for much better news because I think those are just Clarks Originals' Desert London, the oxford equivalent of the oft-recommended Desert Boots. The color is either Sand Suede or Oakwood Suede (though it might just be the Desert Boots that are made in both those colors), hard to see through all that #photography ;-). Here they are on Amazon.

u/ThaddeusJP · 7 pointsr/mildlyinteresting

Black Dockers Gordon shoes are more or less the same as the black Target Merona Trent except the embossed logo at the bottom. I had them both and removed the insoles. The factory information under was identical.

Lately (last few years) the Target ones have started using cheaper leather/leather like material however.

u/fast_and_slow · 6 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

What do people think of the Johnston and Murphy Melton? The black is $123 on amazon and with the 20% off shoes it dips barely below $100. Good year welted too.

I wouldn't normally post Amazon Warehouse, but a size 14 is a rare size. Steal for whoever buys these.

Preowned

"Item shows gentle signs of use, consistent with being worn one or two times. Item is missing original tags and packaging. Item has minor scuffs or defects on top surface. Item has medium scuffs or defects inside the shoes."

And while I have this up:

Clarks Bushacre in Dark Brown, size 9 and 9.5 for $40 each

http://www.amazon.com/Clarks-Mens-Bushacre-Boot-Brown/dp/B005971788/ref=sr_1_1?m=A2L77EE7U53NWQ&s=merchant&ie=UTF8&qid=1415810141&sr=1-1&keywords=clarks+shoe

u/OssiansFolly · 5 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

Don't know what size you wear, but generally I watch Amazon for the desert boots...they tend to pop up for $40-50 frequently with free shipping.

u/-rando- · 4 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Sorry, but I am not a fan of either of those. The straps on those Chelsea boots kill them for me, and the leather looks cheap and plasticky in the pictures. The Derbies also aren't a good pick for something to start building a wardrobe up.

I would start with something like this: Bass bucks or this Clark Desert London Oxford in Beeswax or brown suede. You can wear either of those with jeans or chinos and an OCBD. From there, you can move on to dress shoes, or a Chelsea boot, but get something nice, like this JE Chelsea.

u/ayysic · 4 pointsr/malefashionadvice

6" plain toe wedge probably in cordovan but they definitely need to be beat to shit to look like this. The sole looks like it's near the end of its life.

u/MayorOfAus · 4 pointsr/AustralianMFA

Hard to see from this picture, but I'm 99% sure they're these: http://www.amazon.com/Red-Wing-Heritage-Beckman-Moc/dp/B0032UYPCE

u/zoetrophic · 4 pointsr/malefashionadvice

There's really nothing safer than a mid-grey or navy suit, both of which I'd assume are interchangeable for both the interviews themselves and the meet and greet. If you're looking for brands and don't mind shopping online, Suitsupply is a great place to start (check out their purple line for <$500). The Copenhagen, Washington and Soho are their slim fits. eHaberdasher's Benjamin sartorial suit is fully canvassed, but the shipping on mine took a very long time (~15 days) and that may not be acceptable for your needs.

In-store, check out J. Crew's Ludlow suits (on a discount), J. Crew Factory's Thompson suit (by far the cheapest option here), Brooks Brothers Madison (the most expensive), or Banana Republic's Monogram. All but Brooks cost under $500.

For shoes, Johnston & Murphy's Melton is a good cheap option, but only if you don't feel like you couldn't already swing the black oxfords you own. Brown Allen Edmonds Park Avenues are a significant step up in quality and price, but you can't go wrong with a pair of brown cap toe shoes. They'll last a very long time.

I really only wear cheap belts and don't wear ties at all, so someone else could be a lot more valuable in those areas. Best of luck!

'Weird Guy' Slim Tapered Leg Broken Twill Selvedge Jeans (Royal Blue) - $103.85 - for comparison, $155 on Tate + Yoko

'Grim Tim' Skinny Straight Leg Jeans (Organic Dry Navy) - $119.93, for comparison $179 on NudieJeans

Shoes:

Lots of Sperrys - $59 range, same ones in $90 range on Zappos

u/DecD · 3 pointsr/hiking

The ones you linked to look really hot to me. They're gore-tex, waterproof, right? So- probably not very breathable and slow to dry.

I prefer something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Merrell-Mens-Moab-Ventilator-Hiking/dp/B00D7CHAEW

But you'll have the best luck if you go to the store, try some on, see what fits. Consider buying a size up so your toes don't crunch into the ends during descents.

> I'd rather be comfy than be a walking billboard for polo or some shit.

I know I probably won't change your mind, so maybe this is really for anyone else who may be reading this comment thread, but you can be comfortable without looking like a walking billboard. It's actually really easy. Right now, I'm wearing:

  • A shirt similar to this one (cost: $25) with the sleeves rolled up. No logos.
  • These pants from Banana Republic (cost: $44). They're more comfortable than jeans and work with everything jeans do. Again, no logos.
  • Clarks Desert Boots (cost: $60). Less comfortable than sneakers? Sure, but they work with anything and they last a long time. Still no logos.

Is it the most exciting look? No, but it's pretty universally agreeable, relatively inexpensive, and I have no concerns about looking like I'm homeless.

    > Also, if you can't go a day without a shower before turning into a smelly piece of shit then I think it's you who needs a hygiene lesson.

This is about appearance, not smell. If you look homeless because your hair looks bad when you're not showering, then you probably have to shower more. I have short hair, I can get away with wetting my hair and fixing it in a few minutes.

    > By all means, though, feel free to make snarky comments over the internet about someone else's life you have no idea about. I'm sure it will better you as a person somehow.

I was asking a legit question because people assume you look homeless and you said you live out of your car despite staying at friends' places. But, sure, snarky.
u/SingingMadman · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Also, what do you think of these ones I've come across? I know most people here love the Bushacres, and I was about to get them when they were about U$52 like they were a few weeks ago which was about A$80 shipped or something ridiculous. However, I'm not sure if there are any alternatives within my budget.

Seavees 3 Eye Chukka - Walnut Oiled Leather: A$100 (~U$80) shipped, image

Clarks Bushacre 2 - Beeswax: U$66.67 + U$22.95 shipping = U$89.62 (~A$114) shipped

Tretorn Oken Leather Chukka: U$79.69 + U$13.77 = U$93.46 (~A$119), image

The first two seem safe options and I'm not particularly convinced by the last one; it looks cheap. However, I do like the sleekness and more "modern" design, and that it looks different from the typical chukka boot. That's not as important to me as actually getting a decent pair of shoes, though.

EDIT: I like the aesthetic of these Tretorn Garde Stovel Vinter GTX Boots, apart from the lining. But I've got a feeling my feet would cook inside them here in Australia.

EDIT 2: Any opinions on the Eastland-1955 Edition Sherman 1955 8" Boots?

u/Discopath · 3 pointsr/estilo

u/VotedBestDressed · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Better. The top looks good. Now for the rest.

Get some new jeans and some new shoes. Generally, you wanna get shoes that aren't too flashy. Avoid stuff with too many colors and overdetailing. Stick to classics. I'd recommend either vans or SIMPLE nikes for sneakers. Get some Clarks:

u/dtown4eva · 2 pointsr/goodyearwelt

I don't know what price range you mean by not too expensive but here are some options.

Red Wing Moc Toe lug is a different moc toe without a wedge sole but still might be too bulky.

Thorogood has this cheaper moc toe that you might like.

Red Wing Beckman moc toe is a nice but slightly pricier option.

Irish Setter is Red Wings cheaper hunt and work label but they are all made in China. They have some other options

Or you could look into some Made in Maine handsewns for a different moc toe look. Here is a Quoddy chukka for cheap if you happen to be a 11.5

Hope this helps some.

In other stores, chances are you'll find the Bushacre 2 by Clarks, which is a budget version of Clarks Desert Boots. I don't know how they differ, really, other than the outsole.

I just wanted to give you a heads up in case you end up confused like me.

u/theskipster · 2 pointsr/AskMen

Try something like this. You don't have to spend a fortune on the shoes to still look good. A $20 belt is just fine too as long as it is cordovan.

u/ReverieSoundRevue · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

The more specific you are, the better it is for us to suggest a shoe. Off the top of my head, these 2 come to mind, both Doc Martens: 1 and 2

These Clarks could also work as well as these ones only if you're not restricted to suede.. which is actually a type of leather anyways, unless you mean leather leather.

Also since you didn't post a price range, just going to put these here for the lulz.

I used to have chucks but I found them really uncomfortable on my feet.

I tend to see everyone suggesting beeswax, which they unfortunately don't have. :( What are MFA's thoughts on this type?

Hold the phone: The sale carries over to Amazon as well. Is it worth the extra $8 for me to get Beeswax?

Clark Dessert Boots in Beeswax are great with dark jeans.

I wouldn't wear the Iron Rangers out in the snow (because of the sole) but the Classic Moc looks like it could handle it as well as the Beckmann (http://www.amazon.com/Red-Wing-Shoes-Mens-Beckman/dp/B0032UYPCE)

u/AlGoreVidalSassoon · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I haven't seen these non-ironically recommended here in a while but if you want something different than sneakers then Clark's Desert Boots in beeswax. Still very casual but a little dressier than sneakers.

Otherwise gray suede Vans Authentics.

u/MrBananaGrabber · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Yeah I mean darker brown should be alright.

It's such a MFA cliche and I feel like I'm on MFA circlejerk even for saying it, but have you looked at Clarks Desert Boots? They're like the staple shoe for what you want. They can be dressed up, dressed down, pretty much a do it all shoe that's cheap.

http://www.amazon.com/Clarks-Originals-Mens-Desert-Beeswax/dp/B002IFNVK6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1341714315&sr=8-1&keywords=clarks+desert+boots

And be warned: they're going to strike you as ugly when you look at them. But remember, you wear them with pants, so they're going to look more like this when you actually try to wear them. I had an aversion to them when I started getting into fashion, but when I finally tried on a pair I loved them.

http://doc.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pDOCK1-10464671v291a.jpg

u/Hasoroth · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I bought a pair of these cap toe oxfords on a recommendation that I read once on MFA. I needed a pair of smarter looking shoes for work, but I wasn't willing to spend too much, and I needed shoes that were comfortable and durable as well as looking a bit sharper than sneakers.

These things did the trick. I receive compliments on them, they worked well in a bar environment, they were cheap, and the cordovan colored pair I own matches well and easily with just about anything; with jeans and a t-shirt for a night out, with a suit and tie for a job interview, with sweatpants and tank top when I'm making a midnight take-out run.

I also bought a pair of loafers from L.L.Bean, these handsewn ones. I bought a similar pair two years ago, they can be worn casually with shorts or dressed up with a suit. Personally I loved my pair and was devastated when they were stolen.

I used to wear exclusively sneakers and work boots until I found out my L.L.Bean loafers were more comfortable, easier to slip on, and looked better. I still love my kicks don't get me wrong, but it's nice to have the option of looking sharp when I feel like it.

I had a similar uniform im training for a job. If done wrong you can look like a busboy/valet. Things to focus on: belt, watch, shoes. You have to make sure your shirt and pants fit obviously.

But you can add a touch of personality with your watch and belt. Keep everything black since your shoes are black.

Black leather belt with a gold or silver face. If you get a black leather watch, make sure the metal matches your belt ( gold with gold, silver with silver). You could get black alligator or lizard watch/belt for extra pizzaz. I wore a gold pinky ring but that was personal taste , its up to you.

As for your shoes: i would go with black captoe oxfords but thats the most formal and would look better with a full suit. You could always get derbys or loafers but please please don't get any cheap, square toed, rubber soled shoes. Your shoes are the most important part. It will make or break you, but also i understand its just for work.

Make sure you keep them shined and make sure your shirt is always crisp and not wrinkled

I got mine for $77 + $18 shipping last year off Amazon. I had some other stuff on my wishlist that I had added to the order so I wasn't too sore about the shipping. Just keep an eye out on the price, it's up now but it spends more time than not around the $80 mark. http://camelcamelcamel.com/Clarks-Originals-Mens-Desert-Beeswax/product/B000WU6TMG

FWIW I bought a pair of Chippewa Apache Lace-Ups exactly one year ago. I have worn them almost every day and the sole is still in great condition without need for repair. I haven't bothered to oil them or anything and they are still rocking. Along with a couple pairs of thick, wool socks and you have something that will last awhile. Break in took a solid two weeks of daily use.

Here's the specific pair I bought and can vouch for them, but they have tons of styles. I have some friends with Red Wings and I think you're paying a premium for a hot brand, not necessary a better boot.

Let's take a look at shoe prices. I'll take the top hit in each category, and use the default By Relevance sort. I prevent Amazon from keeping any state, so aside from geo-locating my IP (which would likely drive up pricing, not down), so any purchase history should not bias price.

u/Daeus07 · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

> If not these, then what? You provided EXCELLENT explanations of everything that you don't like, but you've failed to suggest any non-sneaker alternatives.

I suggested sneaker alternatives because they fall in the same price range and are the same level of formality that the Skechers are meant to be. If you're looking for sharper leather shoes Clarks Desert Boots, Bucks, or a thrifted pair of Allen Edmonds McAllisters all fit the bill.

> While "you get what you pay for," you must understand that a single pair of shoes that runs $100 or more is just not something that everyone can afford.

None of these are currently $100 or more. If you can swing $60 for Skechers, you have $60-$70 for a different shoe. I'm a college student who pays my own tuition, and volunteers at the lab in my free time. The occasional odd job between those provide my entire entertainment/clothing budget. My 3 pairs of shoes are $3 thrifted black cap-toe oxfords, $19 nordstrom brand bucks, and $160 work boots I saved six months for. If $60 is too much for you your options are to wait for sales (end of a season is best for clothing), hits the thrift store, or stop worrying about fashion because you have bigger things to deal with.

> The shoes you suggested as alternatives are either skateboard shoes or a little childish.

Vans is a skate shoe company, but the authentic and authentic lo pro are clean, canvas, and unobtrusive. They have none of the faults that the problems of the Skechers. Keds are known for women's shoes, but the Champions are also sleek and unobtrusive. Same with the frequently-teenage-associated Jack Purcells, especially if you get the low top without the rubber toe cap. Again, sneakers were suggested because that was the design of the shoes in the original post. They're not the only shoes out there if you don't like them.

> Explain cheap leather to the unwashed.

In ascending order of quality

  • Bonded Leather: Most super cheap leather is bonded leather. Bonded leather is leather fibers caked in glue then pressed into shape. That's what the Skechers were, and that's what you should really try to avoid for all the reasons listed in my last post.

  • Suede: Suede is the bottom fibrous layer of the hide. While it looks nice and holds up better than bonded leather, it's thin and gets damaged by rain and salt. Sometimes one side is painted over to give it the appearance of top grain leather. The product is often called "genuine leather".

  • Top Grain Leather: Top grain is the uppermost portion of the hide. It looks like high quality leather, as evidenced by the epidermis. It is, however, still thin and will not age well.

  • Full Grain Leather: This is the full hide. It contains both the top and bottom layers unsplit. It's thick, develops a patina (wear pattern particular to leather), and if treated it will last decades.

Boots and shoes with full grain leather generally start at about $150 and go up from there. Considering the cost of replacing lower quality leathers though you can often save money on the long term by buying better leather shoes first. If a $60 bonded leather shoe lasts you a year, a $300 full grain shoe need only last 5 years to cost the same and will often last far longer than that. If you need shoes right now for a job interview or to wear to work, go ahead and get some cheap oxfords or derbies. Otherwise I urge anyone to save their money for a while and get better leather.

    > I'd apologize for the snarkiness, but I mean it in earnest, so I won't. If you're going to attack something, fine. But try to take it a step further and recommend meaningful alternatives

I understand that you feel like I attacked shoes you like and possibly own, so you feel I've attacked you or your decisions. I'd like to urge that that is not the case. The previous post was not aimed at you. It was a reply to a college kid asking what was wrong with that pair of Skechers. That's exactly what I addressed in only the detail relevant to the context. If the advice wasn't perfectly suited to fit your lifestyle as well, I'm sorry but that's what happens when you weren't the one who asked in the first place.

Also, read the guides. A lot of us put a lot of work into centralizing and writing that information for everyone.

Have you tried superfeet? They really help with arch support and I'd say a majority of thru hikers use them.

100 miles is kind of ridiculous... That's less than a week even at a slow pace. I've had luck with Merrill ventilators and got about 1500 miles per pair. They're stiffer and heavier than running shoes which may be a plus for you.

My feet sweat pretty bad, so I would take a couple breaks per day to air out my feet and shoes and change into dry socks. Foot powder also really helps, as does taping up hot spots before they becomes blisters.

u/Tameus · 1 pointr/frugalmalefashion

I bought a pair of Merrell's about a year ago for around $80 that have held up well to a pretty solid beating (5-8 mile day hikes every 3 weeks or so). Comfortable, lightweight but with enough ankle support. $90 on amazon now, but one of those 20% off coupons might still work. Here's a link.

I got mine from Amazon, from the Originals series too. Most comment on there, MFA, and everywhere else say that you should order at least a size down (in American sizes). I'm a 13 and I ordered a 12. I had to put a heel cup in mine so they'd be perfect, so I think I might even fit in 11s.

CDBs aren't good in winter because of the crepe sole. It's somewhat slippery and not waterproof. I'd check out the LL Bean Katahdin, or something like the Red Wing GT if it's in your budget.

I think they were around $80 in my size. I'm not going to debate the merits of weightlifting shoes vs. flat soled shoes. I tried both. I can tell you with flatter shoes (I also used Vivos) I had more "wobbliness" in my ankles which meant I had more wobbliness with my back. Weightlifting shoes anchored me better so my squat is more stable. As long as I have good squat form and focus on the vertical plane, my back holds up and I get stronger. If my squat form weakens and I kick my butt back and hinge down with my back, then it feels like I've been hit with Thor's hammer.

u/Timesweeper_00 · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

It depends on what I'm layering it with. Sometimes if I'm going for a semi-streetwear vibe I wear my [white gum-sole stan smiths] (https://www.amazon.com/Adidas-Stan-Smith-Sneakers-Style/dp/B00TQZBJ3C/) or alternatively for a more americana vibe my [Clarks desert boots in beeswax] (https://www.clarksusa.com/us/originals/originals-mens-desert-boots/desert-boot-beeswax/p/26106562). I have a pair of Chippewa x J. Crew collabs, but I don't wear them with these because the leather is too red.

Honestly, I'm not thrilled with my footwear situation right now. If I was picking up new shoes, I'd go with [these] (https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-x-allen-edmonds-unlined-chukka-boot) Allen Edmonds in chocolate for chukkas, some nice [boots] (http://i.imgur.com/zGUPdVG.jpg) (credit to /u/cathpah), or a higher quality white leather sneaker (CP or derivative). Coincidentally, these are my next three purchases.

Is that color a good choice, and would it be an acceptable item to wear in high school?
Just wondering how would you wear jeans with it? tuck it into, or hanging over or cuffed?
Also, how do you cuff your jeans?
Sorry, I'm a beginner at this.

u/1ncognito · 1 pointr/discgolf

I've got these, and I can't recommend them enough. Had them for a couple months and they're super super comfortable, and have plenty of grip for whatever course. Another nice thing about them is that they're lighter than I expected, so they don't affect my play at all. Love these shoes.

u/Dr_Tobin · 1 pointr/frugalmalefashion

I agree with splitplug. A plainer shoe would be a better investment; they're more versatile. A nice cap-toe, balmoral, somewhat shiny black shoe would ideal. The Johnston and Murphy Melton can be had for $125 (most sizes anyway) on amazon. It's a leather soled, Goodyear welted shoe. They'll last years and are among the most quality shoes that can be bought at the price point. The next step you would be to something like AE for a few hundred, and then Alden's, etc. for a few hundred above that. Either way a Goodyear welted shoe (actually stitched on sole, not glued) is a steal for $125. I got mine recently. They haven't seen much use yet, but I've heard great things, and I'm happy with the way they feel. I hope this helps. I really recommend them. They're a good investment.

Does that qualify? I don't know if flat really just refers to the sole.

If you like the look of these Merrell Moabs they are amazing. Incredibly durable. I can cover just about any terrain with these and some nicer flip-flops. I wear my pair quite a bit, and I'm still on my 2nd pair after 15 years.

I bought these recently. Today is my first day wearing them and I have a good feeling about them. I have had both bad and good experiences with Johnston Murphy before and I feel like this is a good pair.

Excuse me if I am incorrect and this was a mistake on the page but should I go with Beeswax or Beeswax leather? 1

I was looking for some new laces for my Beckmans in black cherry featherstone. I was thinking leather laces would be best but ill take any suggestions.

>I know I probably won't change your mind, so maybe this is really for anyone else who may be reading this comment thread, but you can be comfortable without looking like a walking billboard. It's actually really easy. Right now, I'm wearing:
>
> A shirt similar to this one (cost: $25) with the sleeves rolled up. No logos.
>
These pants from Banana Republic (cost: $44). They're more comfortable than jeans and work with everything jeans do. Again, no logos.
>* Clarks Desert Boots (cost: $60). Less comfortable than sneakers? Sure, but they work with anything and they last a long time. Still no logos.
>
>Is it the most exciting look? No, but it's pretty universally agreeable, relatively inexpensive, and I have no concerns about looking like I'm homeless.

That's a ~130$ outfit not including socks and underwear, though. Atm I'm wearing a $10 dollar shirt, a pair of 4 for $20 basketball shorts, and my shoes were $45 I believe? Maybe these are my $60 shoes, idk. They're similar, but these ones look less fancy and are more comfy. Not that I'm saying spending money on your appearance is a bad thing, but it's not something I'm interested in.

>This is about appearance, not smell. If you look homeless because your hair looks bad when you're not showering, then you probably have to shower more. I have short hair, I can get away with wetting my hair and fixing it in a few minutes.

It just depends. My hair can get frizzy. I have long curly hair. I usually have it under a beanie or if it's warm outside I have it up. Plus I usually only wash it every other day, otherwise it gets dry. I wash it, put some product in and style it, and if I put it up or in a hat the next day for a few hours before letting it back down it retains its shape from the previous day quite well. I live in the conservative south, so long hair alone is enough to raise an eye over depending on who owns the eye.

>I was asking a legit question because people assume you look homeless and you said you live out of your car despite staying at friends' places. But, sure, snarky.

Live out of the car meaning I can keep everything I need in my car while I couch surf. You didn't exactly take caution in phrasing your question, so why would I in phrasing my response? I hadn't, and still really haven't, been awake for long, and I enjoy poking at people on the internet to see what happens.

Also, I don't care if someone thinks I look homeless. If anything it probably keeps them from talking to me, and that's alright to me.
