You can still buy these on Amazon. They are compressed, so you have to shave off the tea with a knife.

The one in the picture is a "Half Brick". There also come in "Full Brick", "Hockey Puck", "Ecstacy Tablets", and "Chocolate Bar". The last two being easier to prepare.

Here's a youtube video of it being prepared just to give you an idea.

Ok sorry for the long post. Just throwing this out there as a few people ask about getting into matcha.

This is teavana's matcha. "Imperial grade" seems to be thier naming scheme to make it sound better. Generally there is culinary grade, which is lower grade and generally used in cooking, ice cream, cakes, lattes and etc. Then there is ceremonial grade which is higher grade and use in the tea ceremony. There are many grades of ceremonial itself depending on how its grown, type of tea plant, location, time of harvest, etc etc. Looking on their site at this is the 80g for $34.95. At that price I would have to expect this is not really that high quality. 80g is a shitload of matcha.

http://www.o-cha.com/matcha.htm This small explanation may answer a few questions for you. You can also buy tea from there and the owner is very knowledgeable.

http://yuuki-cha.com/ Is another site if you want quality tea from Japan.

If you want to stay in the US you can buy some on Amazon. I have had the DoMatcha ceremonial grade and it was pretty good. http://www.amazon.com/DoMatcha-Green-Organic-Matcha-1-0-Ounce/dp/B0019FOZC4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1374065899&sr=8-2&keywords=matcha.

for the OP I would recommend getting a wider bowl so you can whisk the tea better and get an actual froth. From the picture the cup used seems pretty narrow and curved at the bottom.

Here is a short video you can see it being prepared https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nY_XEn7aIrA

The times I have had matcha in Japan it was fairly thick and frothy. Some people may find it too bitter for their taste. You can thin it out a bit with more water if you find it so.

I work at Starbucks and we use 2% milk (default), chai tea concentrate (Water, Black Tea, Cardamom, Black Pepper, Ginger, Cinnamon, Cloves, Natural Flavours, Star Anise), Sugar, Honey, Ginger Juice, Natural Flavours, Vanilla, Citric Acid) and ice for the drink.

You can make it with any kind of presweetened chai tea concentrate like Tazo’s Classic Chai Tea Latte Concentrate (https://www.amazon.com/Tazo®-Chai-Tea-Latte-Concentrate/dp/B000T3KTJA).

I believe block tea would taste similar to American style tea dust tea bags. I could be wrong. A strong tea brick such as this one might compensate for the usual weakness associated with tea dust.

Hmm, good question. I don't really know how to describe it to you. It has a good aroma, it isn't flowery (I strongly dislike flowery tasting tea), it's strong but not so much so (obviously this can be made stronger or lighter depending on how much tea you put in the pot). It's just a really good tasting tea blend. It always gives me that relaxed and warm feeling with just the right amount of caffeine to hit that craving. It goes really well with pita and feta cheese, too, but I'm probably safe in assuming you don't have your tea in this way. It should taste good with other food, as well.

Plus, it's relatively cheap considering the quality.

u/Orangebird · 7 pointsr/tea

This is my favorite-- Sunflower Jasmine tea.

I have tons of the empty tins sitting around my house. You can buy it in three sizes-- 120g (~1/4lb), 227g (1/2lb), and 454g (1lb). You can find it through amazon, or if you live near a Chinatown, you can find it in pretty much any grocery store. Roughly, the prize per size tin is $3-4 for the 1/4lb, $5-6 for the 1/2lb, and $10-11 for the 1lb.

Note: The tin comes in two colors, red and yellow. The yellow one is the better one. I don't know what the exact difference is, but that's the general response I got when I searched google.

Here's a review about it.

u/parkinsonslaw · 6 pointsr/cocktails

Add as much cranberry as you need, theres this flower called a butterfly pea blossom that makes anything you soak them in super super purple. They won't change the flavour but then you'll have a very purple drink with whatever ingredients you want. Just make sure you strain well!

u/zakii · 6 pointsr/EatCheapAndHealthy

Mate Tea is your friend.

Dirt cheap, hard to burn, and just as much caffeine as coffee. It tastes like a piney green tea.

u/ISELLCHEESE · 6 pointsr/tea

Genmaicha is the roasted rice green tea you often see in Japanese restaurants. It has a nice mellow flavour. The rice grains are roasted until dry, so I don't know how one would do that at home without burning them.

It is quite easy and cheap to buy retail, if you know what you're asking for. My local corner store sells this brand (I'm in Vancouver BC, where it's absurdly easy to find a wide variety of asian foods).

!!

Getting started with matcha is so awesome! I've been drinking it in the morning with breakfast for almost a full year now, and knock on my fake-wood desk, I haven't gotten sick at all (except for that one sinus infection when I stopped drinking it for two weeks...whoops).

I think you are selling yourself short if taste isn't as important to you. I feel high quality matcha is better for you, but maybe I'm just overthinking things. I would give this one a shot since it claims to be ceremonial grade, it's 4oz, AND it's barely over $20. That sounds like a steal.

I have matcha every morning. Tea ceremony purists would probably faint over my routine, but it's pretty quick for me and it still tastes lovely.

Tools:

  1. Take your clunky soup cup and fill it with hot water. I use hot tap water. Let it sit in the sink.

  2. Put the kettle on to boil. When it has reached a boil, pour the water into a one-cup liquid measuring cup and let it sit.

  3. While the hot water is sitting, remove your cup from the sink, dry the inside with a paper towel.

  4. Place your strainer atop your tea cup. Take out your matcha tea and scoop as much as you'd like onto the strainer. Here I use the chashaku scoop to press it against the strainer. This is what breaks up the clumps, leaving me with very fine, powdery matcha.

  5. By the time you've finished adding the powder to your cup, the hot water in the measuring cup should be ready. Keep in mind you want the water to be between 155-180F in temperature.

  6. Pour in the hot water and whisk it to death until it's lovely and frothy.

  7. While waiting for it to cool (if you're like me and are a wuss), eat your breakfast!
u/itprobablysucks · 5 pointsr/Nootropics

This one is for $4, but it's an add-on. This is a pretty good deal too.

u/kcsquared · 5 pointsr/tea

My favorite A pound of Rooibos for $14. I drink it daily. Hot and cold. Rooibos is a low tannin red bush tea so it's pretty much impossible to make bitter. You can boil it and you dont have to be precise with your temps. And zero caffeine. Boil it with some fresh ginger to kick it up a notch.

u/Aerrowae · 3 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Yay! I'm so excited that you're getting your own place! That's such a good feeling!

Startup an excel spreadsheet and make a budget for yourself. I find that once I have a budget setup I pay even more attention to my money and figure out new ways to save. I have helped my roommate and my boyfriend setup a budget. :o)

The meat market can save you sooo much money and make you more conscious about the items you are buying and motivate you to cook more.

Crockpots are awesome and help you save time during the week. I know you work from home, but ready-made food throughout the week is awesome!

The Magic Bullet or Nutribullet are both great to have in the home for smoothies! Of course you can blend other items in the cups as well.

I have this Himalayan Salt Lamp and I love it. I also have this Himalayan Salt Candle Holder....actually everything I'm linking you is something that I own and love, something I have experience with, or a similar model (the crock pot was a random model) lol

Oh and this tea because it's delicious.

A few notes:

  • Amazon sells high volumes for pretty cheap, but this is not Matcha. It is still powdered green tea, but it is a chinese blend. Matcha is Japanese in the same way that Champagne comes from Italy France (fuck).
  • Matcha lasts a long time. Don't be followed by the 1-2oz tins. You use a dinky spoonful per cup.
  • Mix it with a whisk. Add a little water at first, whisk until lumps are gone, then add more water as you prefer
u/Firefoxx336 · 3 pointsr/Nootropics

The best way to consume theanine is drinking green tea, as theanine is found most abundantly in the tea plant. The strongest green tea is matcha. Matcha is a finely powdered form of green tea. The powder is mixed into hot water and in this way the tea leaf itself is consumed. Matcha has many health benefits, of which theanine is merely one. Theanine is valuable to us because it binds with caffeine, and while our brains have many receptors of caffeine, which allow us to experience a caffeine rush (and subsequent crash), the brain has relatively few receptors for theanine. As a result, the theanine-caffeine bond can only be broken as quickly as the theanine can be processed, which results in much of the caffeine of the tea being sequestered by the theanine until it can be processed. Humans feel this as an 4 hour elevation of mood and concentration, with no crash following this period. More matcha, longer period of alertness.

In addition to being a theanine and caffeine powerhouse, one cup of matcha can have as much antioxidant EGCG as over 130 cups of traditionally steeped green tea.

I drink matcha regularly and enjoy it mixed with hot water and a splash of milk/honey, or mixed without water into hot milk and honey. Health information can be found here. High-quality matcha is extremely expensive, but I purchase low-quality in buk from amazon.

The first few months are hard but I promise it gets better and that you’re doing an awesome job. Trying to breastfeed is so so hard and demanding and stressful on top of everything else about being a new mom. I struggled with breastfeeding in the beginning and supplemented with formula for a few weeks before my LO got his tongue tie fixed (we didn’t realize it at first that that was the reason). I know it’s easier said than done, trust me, but try not to feel guilty about supplementing. If you are anything like me, I was determined to be successful at breastfeeding so I tried everything. I was pumping every few hours as well as putting LO on the boob so that I would keep producing. It was a struggle. If you haven’t yet, please try lactation cookies and mothers tea. I will link both. The cookies are actually really good and I swear both of those things helped me produce enough milk. Eventually, I was able to provide for my LO with just breast milk. It gets SO much easier but if it doesn’t work out, it doesn’t work out. The most important thing you can do is focus on your child and give her whatever she needs, be it formula or breast milk.

With coffee, herbal teas, mate, and postum, you're going to be used to a much stronger flavor. Tea can be very subtle. If you drink it right after a cup of coffee or spicy/ strongly flavored food, you won't taste it.

It can also be made pretty weak, if you're using single serving loose leaf packets in a 12oz mug, it'll be pretty weak. Those are meant for closer to 6oz. Try adding a lot more tea. Add 4 times what you normally do, and steep it for the same amount of time you normally do (unless it's usually bitter, then do less). You can make it really strong if you just add more. I like to do that with a good Irish breakfast tea.

Also, explore flavored teas! Earl Grey, genmaicha, Lapsang Souchong, mint, and jasmine teas are some really good teas.

This jasmine tea has a great jasmine flavor, it's made with real jasmine instead of sprayed with oil or flavoring. It's also super cheap for pretty high quality tea.

Harney & Sons makes a good Lapsang Souchong. It's really smoky and tastes like a campfire, if you like strong drinks, you'll probably like it. It's very polarizing, though, some people love it and some people hate it.

Taylor's has good Earl Grey, which is flavored with bergamot. It tastes like fruit loops. Fancy.

Rishi makes good mint tea. It's very forgiving, if you like mint, it'll cover up most flaws you'll find in tea. The flavors compliment each other very well.

Genmaicha is made with puffed brown rice. It tastes a little bit like popcorn, it's a little sweet because of the rice, and it can have a strong flavor.

Try other things with tea, too. An Arnold Palmer (half black tea, half lemonade) is great in the summer. A squeeze of lemon or lime juice in any tea totally changes the flavor.

u/silkymike · 3 pointsr/tea

i have more of a simple question that probably doesn't warrant its own post.

(probably heretical in this sub) i love starbucks Awake black tea. it's almost-too-strong and it has a pretty harsh bite. they've discontinued it as of this week and replaced it with some teavana stuff that just doesn't do it for me.

any recs on strong loose leaf black teas? i keep davidsons on tap but i'd like a different, stronger option too.

People use all sorts of tea to make pearl milk tea. I believe the canonical tea is cheap Ceylon, but a lot of places use even cheaper Assam instead. Some people add a second tea, like high-mountain oolong, to add complexity. In HK, they often add ripe pu'er. I've also seen many people recommend Golden Sail lychee black tea and Sunflower jasmine green tea, which are cheap Chinese supermarket brands.

Thai tea is usually Ceylon with condensed milk, food coloring, and often star anise (and sometimes clove, cardamom, vanilla). The leading brand is Number One. That's what your favorite restaurant probably uses. Black sugar PMT was made famous by the Tiger Sugar chain. I've tried it, and tbh I prefer the cleaner flavor of sucrose- or fructose-sweetened PMT.

I don't know how to make cheese foam, but here's my recipe for Taiwanese milk tea:

In 1 c of boiled water, steep 2 teabags of Ceylon for 15 min. Add 1/8 c each sugar and creamer. Chill completely. Shake before serving to improve the texture. Serve with pearls, either the instant ones or homemade ones with tapioca starch and black/red/brown sugar.

Order some tea, and make it yourself.

Six of those small bags in ~2cups of almost boiling water until It's real dark. Put a little warm water in a gallon container and fully dissolve about 2 cups of sugar in it. Fill the container about halfway or more with ice and cold water. Stir your tea in. Fill the rest of the container with ice.

It's best over crushed ice so you can easily eat it as you go along.

That's the brand we use, and the recipe/method I use.
Pure cane sugar you won't need as much of. (1 1/2 cups).
Regular general use sugar isn't as sweet.

It is sweet, I warn you. You can always steep more tea, and add more water if it's too much.

Cheers

Davidson's Bulk English Breakfast Tea

Somehow I've started running out of tea already. I JUST bought a crazy amount of tea, and it's already almost gone. I'm both impressed and offput by myself.

Thanks for the contest!

u/Tankautumn · 2 pointsr/mead

They’re all largely the same. These are what I’ve used twice now People find that plucking off the green parts reduces some of the vegetal character. That’s obviously pretty labor intensive so plan to have a big plate to dump them on, a plate for green, a plate for flower, and a good show to watch while you plug through it. I’ve tossed them into secondary dry and I’ve steeped them in the beginning and I don’t really perceive much difference in taste or performance either way. Same thing hibiscus.

Edit: fixed link

A.) Can I buy it with Prime from Amazon?

B.) Does honey make it taste better?

C.) Because you sound experienced and I'm being lazy: could you give me a 30 second how-to on brewing it?

Much love.

EDIT: I'm looking at this It does look a tad expensive, how much would that jar last me? What am I getting myself into.

u/tubbydammer · 2 pointsr/tea

For British style tea, buy a box of PG Tips or Tetley tea bags. Pour boiling water over a tea bag into a mug. Add milk, not creamer.

Of course, this is only better than what you do now if you prefer it.

u/GamerLioness · 2 pointsr/tea

Sorry to hear about your disappointing experience. If you want a good, cheap jasmine tea, I recommend this brand. I brew a heaping teaspoon of leaves in 6 to 7 ounces of 175° F water for 5 minutes. I do 10 minutes for the second steep, though the resulting brew is not quite as strong as the first one.

u/DaGoodBoy · 2 pointsr/tea

32 oz. glass with ice and water and a 12 oz. insulated Nissan Thermos with a nice strong Assam broken leaf tea. I usually go through two waters for each mug.

In the afternoons I sometimes swap the Assam for a Rooibos, a little Constant Comment or a nice Gunpowder Green tea.

The evenings are almost always either a fine singlemalt or cup of Constant Comment.

Very sorry for your suffering. As a fellow singer, I have empathy and sympathy. Let's get you over this, shall we?

The problem you're describing is caused by inflammation of your vocal anatomy. How to reduce that inflammation? --We focus on what we're doing here and this will encourage the body to heal, so your voice will be fine again.

Number One: You must calm your nerves. How? -- With this:

https://www.vocalmentor.com/your-secret-weapon-against-nervousness-the-4-7-8-breath-exercise/

2. You must drink at least 100 ounces per day of clean, unflavored WATER. You must get at least 7-8 hours' sleep in every 24 hours. The voice loves sleep. So sleep more than 8 hours. Make arrangements so you can do that. Sleeping alone goes a long way toward reducing inflammation of the vocal anatomy.

(I'm getting to the reflux, so please hang in there.)

3. You must try an herbal tea, very powerful for reducing inflammation; the herb is called yerba maté:

https://www.amazon.com/Guayaki-Traditional-Organic-Mate-225g/dp/B0027CNY7U/ref=sr_1_4?gclid=Cj0KCQjw_absBRD1ARIsAO4_D3uzYfVwSlutxxej2SzisFWxM0kkyRI235QmXq5uRj_OhpxHSDtn0oMaAuGoEALw_wcB&hvadid=241929365921&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9014244&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1t3&hvqmt=e&hvrand=9530439865077176198&hvtargid=kwd-54991933&hydadcr=24665_10401006&keywords=yerba+mate&qid=1569314665&s=gateway&sr=8-4 .

It will reduce the inflammation.

4. Excellent remedy to reduce inflammation: Aloe Vera GEL. Not the juice, the GEL. Get this brand, the finest one:

https://lilyofthedesert.com/product/aloe-gels/

Drink 3 ounces aloe vera GEL along with each meal you're eating.

5. You must keep your vocal anatomy MOIST. How? --With these lozenges:

https://www.thayers.com/shop-thayers/healthcare-remedies/tangerine-rosehips-slippery-elm-lozenges-jar/

(They have a plain flavor, cherry flavor, and they have sugar-free, if you don't want the tangerine flavor--no problem.)

If you prefer to drink tea, please use this one, with active ingredient, slippery elm:

https://www.traditionalmedicinals.com/ .

Add honey to your tea, as this will be soothing to your throat.

SUPERFOODS FOR SINGERS:

If you are smoking (anything), you must stop. Try one of those over-the-counter gadgets/remedies for helping break the addiction to nicotine. Also, do not be in any proximity to other people, who are smoking (anything).

The intense heat alone, from the smoke, sears the fragile mucosal lining of the vocal anatomy. You NEED that mucosal lining intact, to protect your voice in general. That mucosal lining is so crucial. When it gets dried out, the body produces thick mucus, as a defense. Singing around thick mucus is a miserable experience. How to prevent this? ---Keep that mucosal lining intact! How to do that? ---Keep your vocal anatomy MOIST, by drinking your water, using your lozenges, getting your sleep, also increase foods rich in vitamin C, as this will fortify the mucosal lining. (Thin surface layer, on top of various organs and tissues, all throughout the respiratory system: this is what I mean by "mucosal lining.") We sing on the thin edges of our vocal folds, which means we sing on that mucosal lining. You NEED that working, intact, doing its thing. One way it protects your vocal anatomy is by warding off virus germs and allergens, as best it can.

Remember, the voice loves sleep. Get more than 8 hours if you possibly can. Make arrangements so you can sleep longer. This will help tremendously, to encourage the healing.

Check out Davidson's on Amazon. They do mostly come in bulk, but they are a solid choice for tea, as you'll find a consistent quality across their many many offerings (over 100+ I believe).

I've done it with gunpowder, various white teas (bai mu dan, silver needle), jasmine greens. My everyday tea is this jasmine tea from the grocery store and it works well. I put in much less leaf than I would if I were steeping with a filter.

I don't think it would work well for tiny leafed teas like sencha or genmaicha, but haven't tried it.

Edit: I thought What-Cha's Kenyan silver needle took really well to grandpa style yesterday. Basically, try it with any and all teas! Worse comes to worse, you can strain it into another cup using a fork or spoon or something.

Maybe some McDougall can help:

>One special note for those of you who are trying to lower your triglycerides; fruit raises triglycerides in sensitive people and needs to be severely limited – at least for several weeks – in people trying to lower triglycerides.7 Fruit (natural, dried, and as juice) is made of simple sugars and the primary sugar is fructose.

>....

>It may be especially important to reduce the intake of the simple sugar fructose. Fructose has an especially potent effect on de novo lipogenesis; causing insulin resistance, raising glucose, insulin, and triglycerides, and causing hypertension in animal models.1,13 Fructose probably makes a much greater contribution to human obesity than does any other sugar.13

Now, maybe your doctor is correct and you should limit fruit. I ordinarily think fruit is great (so does Greger), but McDougall obviously will dispense the advice to limit it, especially juice and dried fruit first.

In the meantime, if you want to lower your blood pressure, try Hibiscus tea. I buy it in bulk on amazon.

Here the Dr Greger video on the stuff. He cautions not to drink more than a quart a day and with a straw to protect the teeth from the acidic effects.

Ive heard that unflavored (Flavored teas tend to spoil booch) black tea has the optimal nutrients that feed the yeast and bacteria. Green tea is a second best for brewing. I may do that down the line. I have some gunpowder green tea. Im going to keep using black tea for several cycles of my continuous brew to keep it strong and robust.

Hah, you helped me make up my mind; I'm probably going to see if I can find a big container of powdered green tea.

I was looking around on Amazon last night and found this -

10oz for $20, a great deal over $10 for 1.5oz, right? It is actually a different product, but if I am to use it in cooking, it will taste functionally the same, but a tiny bit more bitter. The grade of green tea that I would feel comfortable measuring 2 heaping tbsp of would be this not ceremonial-grade maccha but "Hunmatsu-RyokuCha" powder.

I want to use a lot more, because I LOVE the flavor of green tea. I am also an old Starbucks green tea frappuccino junkie. :)

Oh yes, chamomile tea is great. It's actually a popular sleep aid and is non-caffeinated as well, so no surprise that it makes you sleepy!

If you should find yourself looking for a caffeinated tea that is similarly light in flavor, mate on its own tastes great with lots of lemon!

I just stopped. Cold turkey. I never got engorged, never had any pain. I wasn't producing enough to have any effect. The worst thing that happened was a little leaking while I was sleeping if I slept on my stomach, but that only lasted a couple days. I do recommend lactation tea if you want to keep trying. Be warned that if you drink it enough you'll smell a bit like celery. lol I'm pregnant with my 2nd I'm hoping I have more luck this time around.

I was pretty happy with my Domatcha that I got on amazon. There's a similar product by the same company but it's second flush , so it's cheaper (note the larger container size for a few bucks more) but supposedly just as good. I'm thinking of trying that one next.

Avoid added sugars. You want your body burning lean and clean, and sugar is just empty calories with no nutritional benefit. Read the ingredients: does it contain high fructose corn syrup? Read the nutritional facts: is the "added sugars" entry in the double digits? If the answer to either of these questions is "yes," just don't. Reducing sugar consumption is the place to start.

I could say, if it helps you get through the day, I could say, maybe just a little to treat yourself. This regimen is goal oriented, this is not a walk in the park, no half measures. You can either do the work and reach your goals or you can waste your time deluding yourself that you and you alone are able to defeat basic chemistry and biology and spin your wheels wondering why nothing is working. Increasing sugar intake leads to body weight gain, and sugar reduction leads to body weight loss, flat out.

You know what I love? Herbal tea! I buy bulk loose hibiscus, that shit's delicious and healthy! I drink it hot, people tell me they love it cold, you really can't go wrong! I make another blend, peppermint, raspberry leaf, and chamomile. Also, fucking delicious! And I don't add a single thing to it, no sugar no dairy, just hot water and plants.

Welcome to America, a land where you can choose whatever you want in the store as well as grow practically any food source in your back yard.

That sucks you don't like sucralose, it along with aspartame has helped millions of diabetic people able to taste something sweet on a regular basis without messing with their blood sugar. Aspartame is the most medically tested food chemical on the planet and has no side effects (except for diarrhea, upset stomach, and some other problems when ingested in extreme quantities - you'd have to be on an intravenous line of that stuff to get such a dosage.

Look, I'm not a huge fan of sucralose either, but to get sick off of it I'd have to completely replace my sugar intake with the stuff.

The reason we have large corporations providing food-stuffs for so many people is because there's money in it and they do a good job at it. People wouldn't buy stuff if it was toxic, heck, I stay away from brands if I didn't like the way I felt after eating it. The fact is food is full of chemicals, chemicals that are extremely awesome. Chemicals are everywhere, in fact I'd dare to say everything is a chemical, if a food says it's chemical free, it'd be lying since it has a chemical makeup, heck water is dihydrogen monoxide, salt is sodium chloride, baking soda is something something carbonate (sodium bicarbonate, ah I'm too tired to think about it).

It's not a perfect world, but if you live in America, you live in a country where you have a gazillion options, you can shop at trader joes, walmart, aldi, kroger, etc. There are tons of people who want to sell you exactly what you want at a quality and price that is absolutely incredible. That's why trader joes exists, without corporations, how would you get foodstuffs that you preferred, you'd only have limited options from "government sources".

Believe me, I've been to China, the food is cheap and it's mostly grown in peoples back yard, but when you're driving along and people are burning batteries next to their "farm" it makes you a bit weary about where your food is coming from.

The only suggestion I have is to avoid anything "diet" since it has artificial sweetener, and get yourself some delicious tea, try this: http://www.amazon.com/Davidsons-Tea-Gunpowder-Green-1-Pound/dp/B000SATIFA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1405136542&sr=8-1&keywords=gunpowder+green I'm still going through my Chinese tea, but I hear this stuff is pretty good, plus they're "organic" which means the chinese tea farm "claims" they are. Ha-ha. It's still delicious regardless, just rinse off the tea with a bit of cold water right before you steep it.

Oh and if you're looking for tea that is extremely good for you, but tastes really weird, check out this: http://www.amazon.com/Cruz-Malta-Kilo-Yerba-Mate/dp/B001UO90BA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1405136831&sr=8-3&keywords=yerba+mate it has a strangely sweet taste, like a grainy sweet taste. It's apparently good for the skin and what-not. I'm not a fan of it, but it is super good for you. (Cleared up some foot fungus and skin condition for someone I know. They tried all sorts of organic cures, but this was the only one that worked)

So chill a bit and relax. Why not head over to a random store and pick up some nectarines, I bought 7 for $1.50 at Aldi, I'm sure they're probably GMO, but they are insanely delicious, crisp, affordable, and guaranteed safe to eat, otherwise the company would get sued to oblivion.

Edit: Sorry for the long writeup, but I'm a bit tired at the moment.

Is it possible you can try iced coffee or drink cold brew coffee? The cold brew is less acidic and more tolerable to drink black, its actually a bit sweeter and still zero calories if you drink it black.

Green tea has less than 200mg caffeine and youll end up drinking more than a cup to get the same affect as 1 cup of coffee.

I personally dont like red bull either i hate the taste.
If you really want to forgo coffee than maybe try this:
Guayaki Yerba Mate Organic Tea, 25-Count, 2.6oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008234L0C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_o4bIxbZNWBPX1

It has almost as much caffeine as coffee depending on the product you pick.

I'm debating whether I want to make a pot now... but I'm off work in about an hour. The dilemma ):

The tea with rice is called Genmaicha. I haven't been able to find my favorite one on Amazon, but this is pretty good.

u/cwf82 · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Yep. Many different types from many different cultures. They are gaining more traction, at least in the states, with places like Teavana popping up, but it is really cool to get into. My personal favorites are Crème de Earl Grey (English: smooth tea with hints of creamy vanilla), Genmaicha (Japanese: Green tea with toasted brown rice, gives it a nice, nutty flavor), and Yerba Maté (South American: not technically tea, but very similar. Grassy (in a good way), earthy, robust). Just used those searches for examples...lots of different brands and ways to get them out there.

Maybe do some Tazo Tea, Spiced Black Chai Tea Concentrate, 32oz with soy milk (I could drink the whole thing in one day it's that good) to change it up and add a little more nutrition as well.

u/caveat_cogitor · 1 pointr/keto

Caffeine: It's hard at first (headaches, etc) but you can kick the habit. Short of that, you can buy 100- or 250-piece boxes of black tea for really cheap. Here's 312 for $11! Black tea has more caffeine than green or most other types. It's a little bitter at first if you aren't used to it, but it gets easier to drink... also, don't let it steep for too long, 5 minutes is perfect. Longer than that and it can get really really bitter. Powdered teas IMO taste gross but it's up to you if that's an option.

Eggs are cheap and filling. They are also pretty easy to cook. Scrambled eggs, especially, are very easy and quick.

There's lots of other vegetables out there too. You like broccoli? That's a great start! Walmart and Publix have their place, however if there is a local produce store, they may have better prices on good, seasonal produce. Farmers markets and Asian food stores are also great places to look for good food on the cheap. Anything leafy (spinach/kale/chard/and 'greens' of all sorts) are easy to prepare.

Sometimes I try to stuff myself with vegetables at first, eating a bit more than I feel like... then force myself to wait 10-15 minutes, then move on to meats. It gives the body some time to realize how full it is, and helps to not overeat as much.

Water: don't go on a crazy chug contest, but if you feel like drinking more, then do it. Especially since you are consuming a larger-than-average amount of calories and probably sodium as well. As you lose weight, you may eventually find you don't need quite as much.

I hope this helps a little... best of luck to you!

Traditional Medicinals is a good brand. I find the taste to be pretty mild and it's nice with honey. I also sometimes steep another tea with it, so I might add a green tea bag for the last 1-2 minutes of the spearmint tea's steeping time or a rooibos or honeybush tea bag for 5 minutes or so.

I don't drink alcohol, so for the tea teetotalers, I offer Fruity Iced Tea...
Sun Brew Iced Tea (this is key. please don't boil water)
-------------------------------------------------

  • One gallon of water in a glass pitcher
  • 6 PG Tips tea bags
  • Let sit in full sun for 6-8 hours
  • Take pitcher inside and discard tea bags. Tea will become bitter if you leave bags it in for too long.
  • Fresh fruit. I love strawberries, raspberries, watermelon. I limit citrus but a nice [blood orange] (https://g.co/kgs/VyVQVL) is fantastic.
  • Mash the fruit up in a medium bowl. If you have a blender or food processor, pulse it to a coarse consistency.
  • Pour in the sun tea and let it steep for 12-24 hours.
  • strain the fruit and enjoy the tea.

Iced tea is my go-to and being summer in Boston area, farmers markets have fantastic fresh fruit.

I don't know about the same effect, but this (http://www.amazon.com/Cruz-Malta-Kilo-Yerba-Mate/dp/B001UO90BA/ref=sr_1_33?s=grocery&ie=UTF8&qid=1422202348&sr=1-33&keywords=yerba+mate) gave me some crazy energy when I brewed it like coffee. I just treated as if it was regular auto-drip ground coffee. The energy "jump" took a while to kick in but once it did, it was very noticeable and lasted a long time. You need to drink it early in the morning (8 am?) so that you get a boost around 10am. But that boost lasts all day long. I eventually had to stop drinking it because I read that prolonged drinking of mate tea might be related to esophageal cancer, and I didn't want to chance it. But you should try it at least once. They drink it all the time in Argentina.

Who cares? You can buy a huge box of lipton tea for $10. Just boil up a few gallons of water and throw 3-4 times the regular amount in. It should be dark enough to impart a good aged color.

u/LSatyreD · 1 pointr/tea

Ooooh the best kind of reply I could have hoped for!

Sweet to neutral (no sugar added :P), bold flavors (no herbal teas), fruity, nutty, floral, wood, not astringent, not bitter. The more unique the better. I'm not too picky on characteristics but do care about overall quality.

Well, I have more black teas than I know what to do with; I don't see it on their website now but last year about this time I ordered a 5g sampler of every black tea Golden Tips had. I still have a box full in the garage, great stuff. (PM me if you want to trade for some)

----------

Besides black (though always looking for unique ones):

I love a bold white tea, currently drinking a cold brew of Tao of Tea's Silver Needle. It reminds me of a green tea without the grassy flavor, which is my big hangup with green teas.

I have actually ordered a green tea from YS before (through Amazon). I do not care for it on its own, not much flavor beyond 'grass', but I do like to mix a pinch of it into my cold brews to take the edge off.

I would love to try a good Oolong too. I bought one Da Hong Pao Big Red Robe Wuyi Oolong Tea Rock Tea (500g) but had the same experience as the pu-erh cake (see next paragraph), it tasted rotten and fishy with no tea flavor. I might have thrown it away I'm not sure, will have to go check.

I have one 2001 Menghai ripe pu-erh cake that I bought online and I absolutely hated it, I think I've only made 2-3 cups with it (357g cake). Tastes like rotting fish guts, cheap mushrooms, and dirt. With all the hype around pu-erh I would like to try a good one but I'm hesitant after that last experience. If anyone wants that Menghai cake I will happily trade it for the cost of shipping.

I also have 16oz of Davidson's bulk English Breakfast that I haven't touched in probably a year. It was my first 'real' tea order but now I'm spoiled and can't stand the stuff. While better than tea bags there is something 'off' about it and it generally tastes like hay or barley and not so much like tea.

I also keep some nice Yogic Chai on hand but generally only pull it out for when I'm sick or it is raining outside.

u/davedontmind · 1 pointr/britishproblems

Never fear - it looks like you can buy them on Amazon, although they are rather expensive, at 7.6p per cup instead of the 2p-ish you'd pay over here.

Still, if it's a choice between having money or having tea ...

u/legendary_ironwood · 1 pointr/tea

I think you missed my point.

> empty bag of tea = $$

> empty bag of tea + tea = $$$

You'd think that empty bags would be dirt cheap, or at least cheaper than an already full bag. Thus, if a full bag of tea can cost you about 8 cents.

For example,

this set of 110 empty bags sells for 5 cents a bag.

this tea is $29.99 for 480 bags of tea, or 6.24 cents/bag.

and this tea is $10.01 for 310 bags or 3.22 cents per bag.

in conclusion - why are empty bags so comparatively expensive?

u/thirdjane · 1 pointr/breastfeeding

If you want to jazz-up a cup of tea, make a pound cake more fancy, whip up a cocktail or make your own gummy or hard candy - having floral ingredients like these on hand lets you make any meal more luxurious.

Look up some tricks to keep supply up if you are exclusively pumping (if nursing is an option though do it as often as you can). I've been pumping 80% of the time since my daughter was born because of issues like you listed and EPing for the last two weeks after getting a bad friction blister and then mastitis. What's helped my supply:

-Pumping every three hours, every four overnight if she'll let me. Sometimes I need to get creative if she's awake and fussy and prop her in a boppy next to me, hold a bottle for her while I'm in the hands free pumping bra. Seems so silly to pump while bottle feeding her but it's just too painful to nurse sometimes!

-Pressing the let down button on the pump several times. Saw this from another redditor, and it does work. I usually wait until I no longer see streams of milk coming out, hit the let down button and increase suction a bit and get a second burst.

-Boob massage. If you don't have a hands free pumping bra yet get one, it's one of the best purchases I've made. I use this one. I've eaten most of my postpartum meals while pumping in this thing. ;) While my hands are free I can also massage my breasts, pushing slowly and firmly toward the nipple or in some cases just squeezing and holding to get more milk out. Over time I've noticed which ducts on each breast are "good performers" and benefit from being massaged.

-Power pumping sessions. Also picked up on this forum, every few days when my husband can watch the baby for an hour I'll do 20 mins pumping, 10 mins rest, 10 mins pumping, 10 mins rest, 10 mins pumping to simulate cluster feeding. Word of warning, check your nips for trauma during the breaks and don't overdo the suction. It really helped my supply (probably more than any other single technique) but the last time I did it I got a nasty friction blister because I didn't notice the flange was off center which didn't heal well and led to a case of mastitis.

-Mother's Milk tea I tried Milkmaid tea first, and then Mommy Knows Best lactation supplement, but this is more effective for me than both of those together. Start with just a cup or two a day as it can be seriously strong and lead to engorgement.

Good luck! I don't wish exclusively pumping on anyone as it's a pain in the butt, but I'm like you with one breastfeeding problem after another. I'm currently considering (for the millionth time) giving up because my mastitis was awful and serious and tanked my supply, but I keep reading the health benefits of making it to six months and am hoping to figure something out. This sub is great inspiration!
