I have had a lot of success using 'Professional! Super Premium Polishing Paste'. I'm in the UK and ordered mine from:
http://sportingcutlery.co.uk/b234
You can use it by hand with a cloth or with a buffing wheel on a Dremel. It is best of you can remove the bearing before you use it as it will find its way in. However, I have had no issues using it with a bonded bearing. I wash the whole spinner with dish soap and use a brush to clean the bearing out. I then flush with water and use Jizer by Swarfega to ensure the bearing spins properly and is water free. https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/h7b/Deb-SJZ500ML-Swarfega-Jizer-500ml/B003TEMZ70/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1491408162&sr=8-1&keywords=swarfega+jizer
A can of compressed air then cleans the remainder out.
You will be left with a very clean and gleaming spinner. Further 'polishing' can be done with Renaissance Pre-Lim surface cleaner https://www.restexpress.co.uk/acatalog/Renaissance_Pre-Lim_Surface_Cleaner.html should you think you want to. Being a fountain pen fanatic, I then protect the finish with some Renaissance Micro-Crystaline Wax Polish. You can use this on loads of stuff and a little goes a very long way! https://www.restexpress.co.uk/acatalog/Renaissance_wax.html
Hope the above proves useful.

Atrium Anniversary! 🥳

In honor of today’s Drop of the Abacus I decided to polish up my Copper Atrium and carry it today at work. I can’t believe it’s been two years since the original Atriums dropped. Preorders started 10/22/17.

After receiving it I ordered tritium vials in Green and Purple and added them with UV resin. Have been real happy with how they turned out and a delightful display in the night.

I have been letting my Copper pieces patina. But about once a year I have been repolishing them with Blue Magic and then recently started applying Renaissance Micro-Crystalline Wax Polish. I have been super impressed with this wax and how long Copper and Brass/Bronze items remain shiny. Some are free from patina even when they come back around in my rotation a month later.

I got this ceramic bearing to see how much better they were compared to the bearings I already had and the difference is enormous.

I'm a total noobie so this was really fun to throw together, a quick hour 3D print and I put it in one of my smaller spin bases and it spins really nice. I didn't clean the bearing or anything, just stuck it right in. I ordered another one, I'll put more thought into it and pick a different color maybe (might have to do another glow in the dark!)

Its not as quiet as the metal bearings, but the extra spin time is worth it. I definitely recommend if you're looking for some longer spin times.

I disagree emphatically. The heavier the better. If I could get it 5lbs I would.

Then again... I play guitar so my fingers are quite strong. Maybe that is why I feel like I do. Also this https://www.amazon.com/Gripmaster-Exerciser-Medium-Tension-7-Pounds/dp/B0006GCBL4/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1498832428&sr=8-9&keywords=hand%2Bstrengthener&th=1

That's an honorable thing you're doing but a spinner might not work if he doesn't have much dexterity. I'd suggest trying an inexpensive plastic one to see if it works for him and because he might drop it.

I have always liked magnets as really simple fidgets. I've used these for years. I know it's silly to buy 6 but you want the larger size (2.5") and this is what I could find on Amazon.

The magnets might be better for someone with large hands and limited dexterity.

The same thing happened to one of my 3d printed PLA spinners. All you have to do is grab some superglue gel - like this kind, let it dry and stick your bearings in it and you are good to go.

Like this stuff?

I wouldn't recommend that exact product, but you can buy something like it at hardware stores.

The weaved black would complement the aesthetic imo

Amazon has 10 bearings from vxb for 5.60 including shipping. They are shielded but you can remove them and clean out the grease so it spins longer. From here it depends on what body you want. If you want an all metal one I highly suggest FlyAwayToys. But when you do this, you have to get the center button. If you get them from FlyAwayToys it adds up to the cost of buying a whole spinner including a bearing from him. Might as well buy a pre-made one.

If you want to make your own, it will not be perfectly balanced but it is cheaper and you get multiple spinners that you build/customize. You can get nuts (cheap) or ball bearings from a hardware store, attach them with jb weld. I preferred knurled nuts/bolts as the center button. Cost about $3 for 3 sets. BUT they break sometimes when dropped so prepare a few of them as backups. File off the jb weld with a file or sandpaper and rebuild it. 56 cents a bearing if you get the bundle.

polished the insides of the bearings with a fine grit, arm and hammer baking soda toothpaste. smeared it all into the bearing and manually spun the beast for 15 minutes while I nervously watched the latest episode of Homeland. Then paused the show, washed it out with really hot water and dish detergent, and added another dose into the bearings. Spun it slowly and consistently for another 15 minutes. More Homeland. Washed it out thoroughly and then dropped it into a small chinese soup plastic container 1/4 filled with 99% isopropyl alcohol for a half hour while the show finished. Took it out and blasted it for 2-3 minutes with a high powered air compressor (http://amzn.com/B001J4ZOAW) and followed up with a hair dryer for a few minutes to make sure everything was dry and evaporated.

table spin came to 3 minutes 52 seconds (I rounded up)

No fancy names here lol. 96A118

I can't believe how much the price has come down, I paid twice that 4 years ago. It's an incredible watch at that price point

kataderple is right, thats what I did. Here is what I used for a hammer
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B001BHGC6M/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Also used this anvil
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B003ES5T9C/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

First time doing it and I just randomly hammered away sometimes hitting harder but mostly just using the required amount of force to make the dimples.
