  3. LED lights strips

  4. A happy face visor graphicThinking maybe it will catch someones eye and they'd pay attention. Only used during the day, not at night

One thing to note is that the cluster will still have a green film on it so you won't be able to see colors like yellow red orange or white, barely purple.

Colors that show good are green blue and turquoise

Also dont forget to buy a white led for the middle bulb because the color changing one will not fit

OOh, I love working on my existing costumes and trying to improve upon them. This should be fun! To your points:

    1. The Body Suit: Do as /u/grumpykittyfish said and go for a dyesub body suit. The printed on texture will do a world of wonder for some nice definition. Additionally you should think about creating a muscle under-suit using upholstery (couch) foam. There are a lot of people doing this now with some moderate success, even for beginners. You can go as crazy ripped as you want or just subtle accents to your own physique.

    1. The Armor: Have you thought of gluing them to the red suit vs having to button snap them? You'll get a better contouring by doing so. Also, if you can round some of those edges so they aren't so square and add a little weathering to them to give them some depth. You should create an EVA foam cod piece as well to give your underwear some detailing.

    1. The Staff: I would start from scratch on this. Using a long wooden or PVC staff, you should create the "Z" out of EVA foam. Carve it, sand it, seal it, and paint it.

    1. The Helmet: the glasses thing is a neat idea, but it's probably easier to use an LED light strip, hooked up to a 9v and a switch and you're good to go.

      Hope these help, Good luck!

El Wire: https://www.amazon.com/Flexible-Illumination-Electroluminescence-Brightness-Decoration/dp/B07L6RPYV9/ref=mp_s_a_1_12?keywords=el+wire&qid=1566694684&s=gateway&sprefix=el+wire&sr=8-12

Its really cheap and looks like a neon light.
The idea im running with is taking 3xPink and 3xWhite 24awg wire and wrapping it around an El Wire. I can then use clear heatshrink around it and replace the black cable that plugs into the controller.

So when I plug the controller into the switch the entire wire will have a Neon Glow.

By the time I'm down it will look very "Outrun/Vaporwave" esque.

I tried to take some pics tonight but the nighttime photos don’t do it justice. Until I get quality pics, here’s a link to the lights I purchased/used

any link to what you got? I've been looking at these but i'm not sold on them yet

Of course! It was a quite easy install. I’ll upload pics later when I get the chance but the product I used was this: Govee Car Underglow Lights, 4 Pcs... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HVXT5FV?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Fairy cheap and the RF controller works from inside the car to where the receiver is, near the battery. The whole install took about 2.5-3 hours.

The exact El Wire I purchased is currently out of stock on Amazon. But the following link is similar in design but there are others with multicolor options:

This is the simple on/off switch that I happened to have from another project in my home:

It's really, really easy to add your own ambient lighting to the Focus (or any car really). Most LED strips are already 12v. They'd need an adapter from house wall power but in a car (the vast majority of them anyway) the 12V circuits are already there! If you're concerned about your own electrical knowledge they make kits too; they're pretty inexpensive and you could splice open that cigarette adapter line to wire it in directly or get something like this. Personally I'd buy my own strips, controllers, and hard wire it though (make sure you confirm controller works with your strip). Since you're in the footwell I'd also recommend weatherproof but it's not super necessary since it won't be directly exposed.

You could tap in to an accessory line/fuse to have them always on or get fancy and wire them in to the dash lighting for when the headlights are on so that they only come on at night. I just used these fuse taps the other day for a dash cam and radar detector install; make sure you have the right fuses for your install though. I had to pickup some lower amperage ones to properly protect my lower amperage gear.

Some LED strip lighting is easy to adhere or screw down depending on your preference and you can even get RGB and an IR/RF/bluetooth controller to customize.

Anyway, the whole thing should take nothing more than an hour or two and less than $100 in parts.

Here is the emblem, here is the exterior lighting, here is the interior lighting, and here is the fuse tap needed to wire anything to a car's fuse box!

I'll redownload Telegram and check that out, thanks!

This is clearly going to take a little bit more research than I expected - my thinking was along the lines of those older LED strips for home use that are basically just plug and play. My experience seems to be pretty outdated!

For the sake of my own curiousity, what's the benefit to going with something like a Neopixel setup over something more like an LED party light like this or this? Assuming solid color and only needing on/off function.

Based on reviews, I'd seen that these are noisy/have coil issues, so is it a safety/longevity thing? Brightness?

I'm all for putting in the work to get a more polished end result that will last longer, I'm just curious from an effort/payoff standpoint. How far down the rabbit hole should I go before I've gone too far for this?

I hope that doesn't come off snarky at all, especially since I'm actually excited to learn how to do this correctly. I'd love to get some crazy Arduino shit going, if not for this suit than for another in the future.

Ok, thank you so much for your help! I bought these yesterday. Do you think these will be fine? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D1ASSY6/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/morgendonner · 1 pointr/cosplay

Sure,

I got something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Zone-Tech-Flexible-Waterproof-Light/dp/B00D1ASSY6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1414545078&sr=8-3&keywords=red+led+strips

They're very easy to work with, you can cut them to the length you need and they'll still light. I used one strip per eye, put them in parallel with a single A23 battery and a switch.

If you're trying to avoid soldering that all together which would be ideal, there are some small tube things (can't think of the name) you can buy at radioshack which you feed both wire ends through and then clamp down on it with a wire crimper.

The battery did go in the mask along with the switch, both were housed in in the mouth area and fit pretty easily. A23's are pretty tiny themselves, and you can find pretty minimal battery holders like this http://www.amazon.com/5Pcs-Battery-Clip-Holder-Black/dp/B00ABRQYPM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1414548326&sr=8-1&keywords=a23+holder

Let me know if I can be of any more help!
