Congrats! All you need is a wiring harness for this one. I have it in my 05 FXT. You can change the colors to make it match your interiors lights. It's Pioneer, 89 bucks, and has bluetooth, that is all I need.

I would suggest following the linked guide with a few changes / notes below : https://www.fiat500owners.com/threads/how-to-2012-fiat-500-double-din-radio-install.7412/

  1. The double din dash adapter seems a bit iffy from the Amazon reviews, YMMV: https://www.amazon.com/Scosche-FT4276B-Double-Select-Vehicles/dp/B00RL9L9F8/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=FT4276B&qid=1573525758&sr=8-1
  2. Antenna Adapter on Amazon for ~10 bucks: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DWLTP6R/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  3. For the headunit I'm assuming you'd want bluetooth and Android Auto / Apple Carplay? I would highly suggest the Kenwood DMX706S : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SMBMQ5Z/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  4. To use the head unit after install without actually splicing your parking brake and other cables, get the Kenwood bypass cable: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FY8P9QC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  5. To tie all this together, you'll need the wiring harness. I suggest idatamaestro:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E4W1644/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B012F8RC1Y/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
You will make an account and flash the firmware to the appropriate car make/year and head unit model.

I've only installed a basic 1 DIN stereo on my old 2013 500. I suggested the above head unit and wiring harness because I've installed that on my 2017 500 and had great results. Best of luck.

Audio is subjective to everyone. The Z is very space-limiting in terms of audio unless you want to lose a chunk of trunk to a subwoofer. I can't speak for others, but this is what my setup will be (I have all hte parts, they're just not in)

  • Front speaker panel kit. Don't cut holes in anything, install this along with your choice of decent 2 way low profile 5.25" diameter speakers. You can also get the retrosound bundle which comes with low profile speakers @ 40 watts rms each.
  • For the rear I am using the MSA speaker panel that holds 2 6x9 speakers. Mine are old JBL 3-ways I've had lying around for a while. It replaces your rear tail light panel.
  • I haven't settled on a deck. Ideally I want a single DIN android-based unit that uses my phone for maps, bluetooth, can handle a backup camera, etc. Something like this
  • Alternatively I've always had decent experience with Clarion, so I may just get a plain single DIN stereo with bluetooth and apps for under $100
  • and a 4 channel amp capable of 50 watts rms per channel. Something that is relatively compact, like this Alpine.

I'm omitting a subwoofer because of space and extra weight. The Z is also not a very quiet car unless you dynamat the crap out of it, and even then it's nowhere near a modern car in terms of blocking out noise. So lots of the lows will be eaten up by tire/road noise.

Personally I'd spend a few more bucks and do this:

  • Clarion Mobile Electronics CZ CD/MP3/WMA Receiver : http://amzn.com/B006WVX9R2
  • Rockford Fosgate Prime Full Range 3-Way Coaxial Speaker - Set of 2: http://amzn.com/B00BF6HVGY

I just figure if you're pulling your stock head unit out you might as well have bluetooth and other modern functions in it.

Heck, you'll probably see a good change in sound just switching the speakers out. If they are the stock speakers in there they are cheap 16 year old cones. To make the speaker install a snap, just use these:

  • Metra 72-5600 Speaker Adapter for Select Ford Vehicles
    http://amzn.com/B001OAB6BW
u/hncthename · 3 pointsr/CarAV

You can buy an adapter that will hook up to your current car radio, they are a little tricky to install. You would still have to go through the same trouble as installing a new radio... I would just reccomend buying a new aftermarket radio, some headunuts also have spotify capabilities so you can see your song on the screen and skip, switch playlists ect... i use mine through bluetooth and love it. Only paid around 120 for it off amazon.

Edit: its even cheaper now! https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01FKW6F7Y/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Kenwood KMM-BT315U.

Its a media receiver meaning it doesn't play CD's.
Amazon right now for $77.

Wiring Harness Metra 70-1761 $5

Dash Kit Scosche $12

$94 before taxes.

Watch This; if you're not comfortable doing that please get it professionally installed (shop around, $80 max for labor on an install like this).

You can find Pioneer BT receivers for less also, I just like the way Kenwood looks.

The dash kit I listed will only fit a single din radio, for double din you'll need the metra kit.

u/cougfan1234 · 3 pointsr/Nissan

But you are wanting to hack / mod your stock radio to add aux in? Adding a new after market radio is a no brainier.

They will have everything you need at walmart or best buy. If you buy from crutchfield they will include everything you need.

edit: here is what you need: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Car-Radio-Stereo-CD-Player-Dash-Install-Mounting-Trim-Bezel-Panel-Kit-Harness-/390708327192?fits=Year%3A2000%7CModel%3AAltima&hash=item5af807f318:g:37oAAOSwl8NVVOEU&vxp=mtr

I would recommend getting a bluetooth one though: http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-DEH-X4800BT-Single-Bluetooth-Receiver/dp/B01463VLLI/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1463521607&sr=8-11&keywords=pioneer+stereo

Is there a specific deck you would recommend that would fit or do i need to get something like [this] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DMFHHGU/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1WH4GEGJCQIEN) and pair it with one of these?.

u/chrisnesbitt_jr · 3 pointsr/CarAV

First, make sure to check all your resources before popping over to your local sound shop and letting them convince you to buy some overpriced shit.

Amazon and Ebay are your friends! Use crutchfield and sonicelectronix for info and standard pricing, then check Amazon/Ebay for the BIG discounts. Tell crutchfield or Amazon what you're driving and they'll give you a list of parts that fit.

Second, even with only listening to rock music, trust me you will want a small subwoofer to fill out your system. Nothing major, it doesn't have to blow your head off or anything. Just adds a little low end to balance out your sound.

So, if I were to build a decent budget system for your Ranger, this is what I'd do:

  • Head unit (radio). Alpine, Pioneer, Kenwood, JVC are really the only brands I would consider. Here's a decent Pioneer for the money. ~ $68

  • You'll also need a wiring harness for your aftermarket radio to work in your truck. Not a big deal. ~ $4

  • Okay, speaker time. Crutchfield says your truck has 5 1/4" in the doors, 6 1/2" in the kick panels and some random speaker behind the seat. For our purposes, let's say you just disconnect the rear speaker as it will be completely unnecessary. Here are some Rockfords for the doors that won't break the bank. ~ $62 / And here's some 6 1/2" Alpines for the kick panels ~ $62

  • Subwoofer. Okay, now you may reach this point and say, "You know, I'll be fine with just this! Listen to how much better it sounds!" Trust all of us, a woofer is a good investment. For your purposes, I've tried to leave some wiggle room as far as budget goes to allow for a decent sub, box, amp and amp kit. A lot of these people will say build your own box, and if you're handy and would like to try, then go for it! I'm just not as averse to prefab as most people around here, so I say just find a decent prefab wedge box that will fit behind your seat. A little browsing and Bam! box and woofer. That's perfect for you. ~ $109

  • Amplifier. You don't need anything crazy. Keeping with the Rockford theme, here's a decent 250w amp for that sub. ~ $103

  • Amp kit. ~ $33

And the grand total is: ~ $441 ($196 without the stuff for the subwoofer)

Now, obviously you can play around with the pieces of this system for preference and price, but this was just what I could throw together in 20 minutes or so. Research, research, research. Half of this game is finding parts you like and reading/forming opinions about brands, etc. Hope I helped.
u/mymuse666 · 2 pointsr/CarAV

That's a good recommendation, but I'd go with this one. This is the exact receiver I'm running. I didn't care about HD radio since I use Spotify on my phone. Overall I'm very happy, it has 3 sets of RCA outs too in case you want to start adding in amplifiers later. The one Shelbert90 linked must be the previous model because I can't find it on Crutchfield or Amazon to compare it against the FH-X731BT I linked.

u/Toberkulosis · 2 pointsr/Volkswagen

Alternatively, you could switch your headunit for the RCD330 and get a USB port with carplay

https://www.amazon.com/Amzparts-RCD330-RCD330G-CarPlay-6RD035187B/dp/B07BSP6Y24

u/shinbreaker · 2 pointsr/sanantonio

Funny enough, I was looking at doing the same thing with my car stereo a few months ago. I went with this JVC - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006B1C88Y/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It has the Bluetooth/USB/Headphone jack along with stuff like satellite radio and Pandora. I decided to go this route because of the lack of CD making it a better price.

This was the Pioneer that I was also look at - http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-DEH-X6500BT-Receiver-Bluetooth-MIXTRAX/dp/B0091UX3QI/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1376702954&sr=1-1&keywords=pioneer+bluetooth

Both are rated pretty high.

As for installations, I went with Brothers off of Crossroad Rd, next to the Krav Maga school. They charged me $40 to install and took about an hour.

u/firebirdude · 2 pointsr/CarAV

Honestly, all the displays in this price range are going to be washed out in the sun. The ironic part is that the display type commonly used in the cheaper/older receivers did better in direct sunlight. Like an alarm clock?
https://i5.walmartimages.com/asr/6c14c353-0cc9-4030-aaa5-2b0ed05fff81_1.3778917bac34245adec16584bff5b2e5.jpeg
But the dot-matrix style looks cooler out of the sun and gives more flexibility to display letters/shapes/etc. That's why the industry moved towards it.

If it's got to have a CD player, then this is a good deal.

u/Bezzle59 · 2 pointsr/CarAV

I'd just like to say that the one recommending the 270BT is mistaken and likely confusing it with the 2700BS. The 270BT (like the current 290BT/291BT) is a low budget radio from pioneer with, quite honestly, an awful screen. I'm a Pioneer fanboy but you should avoid that one. I'd get this 3800BHS for $230 (last years model) and you'll actually get all the features that they were talking about plus HD radio.

u/crackthecracker · 2 pointsr/CarAV

$39, and I love mine. No CD player, but really I don't see any use for them nowadays. AUX in, radio, SD card slot, USB. I've had it for almost a year now.

Depending on what VW radio is in there now, I would look at the RCD330G. It's a factory VW part that's plug and play on most VWs of that vintage. I replaced the RCD510 in my 2012 Passat with one and it's been awesome. Planning on replacing the RNS315 in my wife's '12 Tiguan with one as well. Make sure it's model number is 6RD 035 187B as that's the one with CarPlay. Supports Android Auto as well.

Here's one on Amazon, although you can find them cheaper on eBay. RCD330G

for wireless android auto refurbished Kenwood DMX905S for $350. (I have actually bought it and installed in my car with maestro rr. the installation has been mostly plug and play and wireless android auto works flawlessly.)

for wireless apple carplay used Kenwood DMX906S for $450. (I think the extra money for wireless carplay is totally worth it, if you have an iPhone.)

u/ElJefe10 · 2 pointsr/BuildaCarAVForMe

oh boy, i guess you have a ton of options here. Did you want shallow mount subs under the seats or are you going to sacrifice room for a standard sub n box? Do you want to replace the stock speakers and/or add a 4 channel amp?
What kind of music does she listen to (does she wanna bomb the blocks or does she just need some extra kick)?

This Pioneer headunit should do the trick

Here is a link to crutchfield to find the appropriate dash kit and wire harness you will need. you can find it on the lefthand column on the bottom titled "installation parts"

The dash kit for your car ALONE is almost $300:

PAC RPK4-HD1101

Bonus points is it comes with the radio harness and SWC is built in.

Metra makes one with rubber buttons that's gross and I hate it because it's terrible and bad but might be found cheaper.

I SUPPOSE you could do the pocket replacement kit:

Metra 95-7862

But it looks ril bad and the factory radio just kinda sits there and looks dumb.

As far as radios for your budget? Alpine iLX-W650

Does what you want, none of what you don't. Add the install parts and a new SXM tuner and you're off.

Wanna do it cheap AND keep SWC: Maestro SW

And still need the wiring harness to the car, I wanna say Metra 1721? Don't quote me.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/Miata

As somone who did speakers the hard way on my old '96 (cutting the factory harness) and the easy way on my GF's 95 Legacy, her 95 Civic hatch, and my 2011 CRZ, do this:

Buy a radio. Doesn't matter what. JA is a genius but don't fuck with that 20 year old electronics. Get Bluetooth dude. For me, I'd recommend something mechless like this. Your input choices are AM/FM, 3.5mm aux in, USB and Bluetooth. No CDs or tapes or 8 tracks.

From there, get some shit tier Xplod or whatever speakers. Miatas have such poor acoustic properties it doesn't make sense to build up a system when the top is going to be down or the doors are going to be hollow.

Whatever you do, pay attention to this (this is what makes installs easy vs hard) get the appropriate dash kit and harness for the Miata. You'll wire the radio to the harness, then just plug the harness into the factory radio plug. This is completely nondestructive, reversible, and the only way you should consider doing an install.

u/Throwaway_Consoles · 2 pointsr/funny

Are you purposefully picking the shitiest stuff you can find? EVERYONE knows that BOSS is the absolute shittiest piece of junk to vomit in car audio. I genuinely wouldn't wipe my ass with BOSS audio.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0186TTQUG/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1473308397&sr=8-2&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=kenwood+bluetooth+car+stereo&dpPl=1&dpID=41IYA7DDMxL&ref=plSrch

Or! If you want to spend more than $80 but less than a new cell phone you can get something like:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/kenwood-6-2-cd-dvd-built-in-bluetooth-apple-ipod-and-satellite-radio-ready-in-dash-deck-black/4792400.p?id=1219822135208&skuId=4792400

And if your factory head unit was nicer than the last one I posted, please tell me what car because if it's nicer than that but doesn't have Bluetooth or USB, I need to know.

This radio has everything you asked for and then some with nice features here and there. I haven't had the time to play with too much since it went in my brother's car but it really made the stock speakers sound better and works like a charm.

u/Bovaloe · 1 pointr/Miata

I have a Kenwood KMMBT315U I got off Amazon. Everything is good except the direct sunlight point, which sucks, but for $80 I'm pretty happy with it. It doesn't have a crazy light show display but you can change the backlight colors, which I really like.

Edit: Another nice thing is it should plug right into the existing Kenwood plug you have in there, no rewiring. While not a huge deal, it makes it into a 5 minute job to swap over

u/americarocksss · 1 pointr/CarAV

Thanks, so if I want the a/c controls I need the Rr.

Also, you say a compatible radio. I noticed that the radios for this kit have to be idatalink compatible any way of knowing if this (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B017LKVGBS/ref=mp_s_a_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1479820475&sr=8-10&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=pioneer+touchscreen) or this (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B017LKVEBA/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479820527&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40&keywords=pioneer+touchscreen&dpPl=1&dpID=51Y00cLns2L&ref=plSrch) is compatible. Really not looking for something with all the gauges and tire pressure and things. Just looking for a nice looking unit for listening to music with Bluetooth and being able to install subs.

Ps thanks for recommending another kit. I kinda have my eye set in this one though.

I'm trying to install this HU: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006B1C88Y/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'll be using it for USB, AUX and Bluetooth so I don't need those stock features (though I don't have stock BT anyway) and from what I've read I won't lose any iMid features except for the radio functionality, which I have no problem doing with the new HU.

I'm just confused how the one harness (Metra 70-1729) is going to take care of the 4 or 5 connectors that connect to the stock radio. Unless I'm mistaken? I haven't been able to find any pictures anywhere.

u/xb4r7x · 1 pointr/lindseystirling

I am over budget here, but this was quick and dirty. there are a couple areas to save money. biggest being buying a sub and amp use on craigslist. if that is possible and gets you under budget, id recommend just about everything else as is.

u/RebelJustforClicks · 1 pointr/diyaudio

I had considered that, I just don't like the aesthetic of many of the newer ones for what I am picturing. Digital displays, flashing lights... I was hoping for something analog.

That said, there are a few Chinese brands of "vintage car stereo" that may work nicely.

For example, this one isn't too flashy and if I don't connect the illumination circuit would look fairly analog.

I could probably easily power it from a cheap 12v power supply too

A lot of these people will say build your own box, and if you're handy and would like to try, then go for it! I'm just not as averse to prefab as most people around here, so I say just find a decent prefab wedge box that will fit behind your seat. A little browsing and Bam! box and woofer. That's perfect for you. ~ $109

> Amplifier. You don't need anything crazy. Keeping with the Rockford theme, here's a decent 250w amp for that sub. ~ $103

>
Amp kit.

I'm sure there can be good setups found for my budget?

> So if I were to go with 4x Alpine, with a Sony Unit, Would that be sufficient power? Or how would I drive them if not with that unit?

I just put one of these (using this and this) in my '95 and love it so far.

Putting this in Nester (my NA8) when it comes later. Hopefully it'll be pretty good! $27 too! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MVYMKWN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_9YIIDb2ZTSSA6

I see well then it sounds like a good deal, the CarPlay is really what I’m looking for. I used it once in a rental and it’s awesome.

This is it right here yes?

Try this. It's low quality, but it's boring looking and cheap. https://www.amazon.com/Bravo-View-IND-100U-Dash-AUX/dp/B008S0DJMU

I bought a cheap DUAL Headunit from Walmart and it was absolute shit. It was way too bright, no way to adjust brightness or color. The bluetooth wouldn't pick up a signal half the time. It felt cheap. And there was no way to display the time while listening to music. I actually uninstalled it and returned it back to Walmart. Went to Best Buy to look at what they had since I could actually play around with those before buying and installing. Found this guy: https://www.amazon.com/Kenwood-KMMBT315U-Digital-Receiver-Bluetooth/dp/B0186TTQUG (I bought it on Amazon because Best Buy wouldn't price match and it was cheaper). I love it! I can color match to my Jeep's dashboard lights to make it look almost stock. I can adjust brightness and dim it at night so it's not distracting. It has great bluetooth and the display screens are clear and make sense while providing all the info I need. I am extremely happy with this unit! I like my cars looking as close to stock as possible so this headunit did the job very well

Isn't that $600ish? Is that typical. And how hard would installing something like this be to someone with very limited knowledge of this sort of thing? If I don't need 1DIN would something like this work just as well?

This model Kenwood is great if you don’t need or want dvd or cd Kenwood DMX7704S 2-DIN Digital Media Receiver with Bluetooth & HD Radio https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XTYJTMQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_u0V2BbZ7E0Y5C

It has all the things you asked for plus you can create grid lines for backup camera.

You will need a maestro unit to check tire pressure if your car supports it.

Edit: based on the comments I read you have a 2000 Honda Civic, so no matter what you won’t have tire pressure monitor or many other features. It was not something offered that year.

The radio will still do CarPlay and accept backup camera and a maestro unit will get you stearingwheel controls otherwise your going to need aftermarket stuff to do the rest.

I have an older version of this in my 03 RSX and I love it:

https://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-MVH-S600BS-Functions-Compatibility-Bluetooth/dp/B074Y9GKHP/ref=sr_1_15?keywords=pioneer+double+din+bluetooth+aux+usb&qid=1556689528&s=gateway&sr=8-15

All I needed was the Honda wiring harness, I didn't technically need a dash kit but there was a small gap and the dash kit was like ~$10 so I got it anyways. Made the factory speakers sound way better too.

Doesn't do anything fancy like carplay / android auto, but I can answer phone calls (it comes with a wired mic, I attached mine to the top of my steering column), and can change songs via the buttons on the head unit, I don't really have to touch my phone while driving.

Some ppl would... since they see it as an easy swap.
Those RetroSound Radios arn´t an good solution either. Way to expensive for their limited features.
My solution is an Hidden APP controlled(via Bluetooth) Headunit, placed in the glove compartment, Under a seat,
or in a little box in the trunk. right behind the rear seat. and just place the phone with an holder on the dash/windshield.
Those headunits are quite cheap ~80-120$,Example I use or evenless for no name china style ones.
I really like the handsfree phone and voice controll features.

what phone? if its an iphone i would look for a carplay reciever. the best balance of sound and features is going to be something from Kenwood. i would look at this one there is a newer model but much more expensive. its got 2 USB connections, so one for carplay and another for charging or whatever else. comes with a mic for bluetooth calls as well. its got hookups for a backup cam and sound quality is great. no CD/DVD drive cuts down on complexity and weight as well.

Whatever you do, spend the extra money on Oxygen Free Copper 4 guage for power. If you have any issues Copper Clad Aluminum will melt and catch fire, and is just all around terrible and incredibly unsafe. I would Recommend Dual for very cheap budget amps. Also might want to look at pioneer amps as well. Boss is just complete trash no matter how you look at it. Otherwise the speakers and head unit are very solid choices.

Actualy, now that I think of it, you can get an AMAZING head unit for not much more: https://www.amazon.com/Alpine-iLX-W650-Mech-Less-Receiver-Compatible/dp/B07NQ2BRFM

If your budget can afford it, you can get something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Skar-Audio-RP-600-5-Full-Range-5-Channel/dp/B01LW7Z8NI/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=pioneer+5+channel+amp&qid=1571410867&s=electronics&sr=1-5 or if you just need power for the sub then https://www.amazon.com/Skar-Audio-RP-600-5-Full-Range-5-Channel/dp/B01LW8V8CD/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=pioneer%2B5%2Bchannel%2Bamp&qid=1571410867&s=electronics&sr=1-5&th=1

And with OFC, you can use one size smaller due to higher quality, so this wiring kit will be ideal for your uses: https://www.amazon.com/KnuKonceptz-Kolossus-Gauge-Amplifier-Installation/dp/B0058OENJ2/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=ofc+8+guage&qid=1571410941&s=electronics&sr=1-4

I got an Amazon "renewed" DMX905S for $350 (https://www.amazon.com/Kenwood-Multimedia-Receiver-Certified-Refurbished/dp/B07G4JPQ1N/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?keywords=Dmx905s&qid=1572623186&sr=8-2)

Installed it myself and have had no problems. I still have the crappy factory speakers in my 2010 CR-V so can't say much about sound quality. My Android Auto experience has been directly related to my phone. On my old Galaxy S7, it usually worked but was crazy slow and sometimes wouldn't connect (wired). I got a OnePlus 7T last week, set it up to do wireless AA, and it has been fast and flawless so far.

It has always been sad how little thought and effort car stereo makers put into their UI, and this is true of the DMX905S, but there's no show stoppers for me and you get used to the minor annoyances.

How much should I spend on a head unit? Is this one decent?

u/serosis · 0 pointsr/shutupandtakemymoney

For $10-20 more you could just install a cheap Bluetooth enabled receiver.

I went for this little number back in 2012 and have not been disappointed since.

Although the one I bought was $97.79. No idea why there was a price hike.
