That's an exhaust whistle. It gives off an extremely loud, obnoxious whistling sound when you drive.

Walker makes a replacement of the factory hanger. It just bolts on...if you can get the old ones off first.

Mom's car is the 1.8. Goto local auto parts shop. Have them read the codes. Print out codes.

Purge valve for 1.8 was $16.92

Those two parts took me about 30 minutes total to replace. Youtube has a ton of videos on the Sonic....

UPDATE!

Found it on amazon!

The reason I originally asked was because it's getting in the way of where my new hitch would bolt on. Looks like I'll have to remove this, then make a bracket that'll hold up a new one.

I got these and no CEL return, just passed emissions in OR!!

I highly recommend you get the OEM exhaust “donut” gasket over aftermarket. I spent about 3 hours trying to get an aftermarket one on, OEM slipped on like butter...

The wrap came with the headers in an unmarked box so I can't say exactly but It looked like this so I think it was 50ft. I had about 15ft left over.

https://www.amazon.com/Walker-46971-Diameter-Galvanized-Flexible/dp/B0027J9O0O is the standard way to do what you are doing. It just slides over the pipe and you clamp it

u/snegtul · 2 pointsr/Fixxit

So with the jig you basically just drill the hole out, re-tap it, and install a new stud? this thing Seems way more straight forward and foolproof then fucking about with an extractor. Will have to remember that.

u/JDSportster · 2 pointsr/Harley

Man, let me introduce you to the easy way: https://www.amazon.com/Jims-Exhaust-Stud-Drill-Plate/dp/B000WK3IZM

Also, I hate easy outs with a passion. Regular drill bit all the way.

u/ManWithTheSilverGun · 2 pointsr/camaro

A lot of people (myself included) use Speed Engineering and are very happy with them. The only thing you'll need are a couple of lap clamps for the header to off-road pipe connection since the ones that come with the headers are poo. You use the OEM ones for connecting the off-road pipe to the catback.

If you want a set with cats you CAN use these with some custom setup but I would say at that point your better off going with Texas Speed.

u/morbetter · 2 pointsr/mechmarket

I put some vacuum caps on the standoffs/legs on mine. It helped a lot.

u/RepresentativeCall · 2 pointsr/TaoTao

Thanks.

After a few beers...

I pulled the trigger on it as well as a new intake manifold, a gasket, a Keihin carb, (I just bought a carb but could always use a better quality one). A gang of tools. This kit arrived as well as 3 different hi flow air filters due to some order confusion.

I hope all this, when installed and tuned, at least gets me to 38/40mph faster with good throttle response and is reliable. I'm not looking for top end speed so much.

This was just supposed to be something to learn how to 'wrench' on, but lately I've been wanting to fix it up all sporty like and actually use it as transportation.

u/rrrsssttt · 2 pointsr/AskAShittyMechanic

Hmmm...I really dont' want to use the flex joint because I can't weld and I don't think it'll be flexible enough for what I have in mind.

My application is as follows: I have a backup generator on my property and want to enclose it in a shed. I still need to vent the exhaust gasses though, so for that I have a separate pipe with its own support structure to do so.

However I need a way to connect the generator's exhaust with that extension exhaust...and due to massive vibrations I'm looking for a flexible connection.

I hope that made sense.

So in all honesty, I'm still looking for a fabric-like alternative...just something I can wrap around the connections of the two pipes...and flexible enough so that the vibrations don't damage the shed/pipe/generator itself. The seal doesn't have to be a 100%, just so taht most of the gas does get vented.

What are your thoughts about something like this or perhaps even this

u/wtcnbrwndo4u · 2 pointsr/4Runner

It's not a vehicle-specific muffler, it's universal. So it should have a similar size. I want to say the 3rd gen has 2.25" piping, but even if you get a larger one (mines 2.5"), they can adapt your existing piping to make it fit.

I'm pretty sure this is the one I have.

As for the tips, that's mostly subjective so take a look on Amazon/eBay, see what you like. I have a 2.5" inlet / 4.0" outlet tip. It's a good size, looks pretty nice.

Mine was fixed by replacing both oxygen sensors, clearing the code3, and dumping this in a tank of shell gas.

I don’t have that one, but I’ve got the ATP knock-off of it.

Bought it on Rockauto in 2009 and replaced it twice for free under warranty.

I noticed zero improvement but at this point it’s pretty far from stock engine. It looks better and definitely fits and lasts longer that the stock header.

I’m thinking a 2000 has the pre-cat manifold and I’d be concerned about emissions taking that off. I may be wrong, but I’m pretty sure my buddy’s 2000 Classic has the pre-cat.

u/campos9896 · 1 pointr/Acura

So you are saying I remove the mid muffler and replace it with a straight pipe, and the resonator i replace with the dynomax muffler I purchased? This is the item I purchased and it says it is a muffler. Are they interchangeable?

I just looked it up. I see what you were talking about with the ECU switch, so I guess you already looked at that.

Did you plug up the engine side of the vacuum line you disconnected? You need to put a cap on it if you haven't. You should be able to get a vacuum cap at your local auto parts store. They look like this:https://www.amazon.com/Spectre-Performance-4254-Vacuum-Assortment/dp/B000BPWSCC/ref=sr_1_10?keywords=vacuum+cap&qid=1571430226&s=automotive&sr=1-10

EDIT: Also, one of the purposes of the throttle body warming is to prevent the throttle plate from getting iced up in freezing weather. The moisture in the incoming air could freeze onto the throttle plate and keep it from shutting all the way. It's probably rare, but something to be aware of since it does do more than just emissions stuff.

It's cool that DEI has a kit specific for the 4.0L engines but to be honest you can do the same thing for a little less than their cost.

DEI 010403 0.75" Aluminized Sleeving Heat Sheath

DEI 010408 1.5" Cool Tape

Does your XJ already have the heat shield installed? If not you can get it here. CBXCB060 SHIELD-EXHAUST MANIFOLD

IMO hood vents are the last thing you should be doing to address heat issues. It's a band-aid instead of finding/fixing whatever the problem is that's causing the heat issues (whether it's heat soak, overheating, etc).

I put this on my '92 earlier this year and so far I'm happy.

Thank you for your suggestions. I finally got a check engine light. I got the code checked at Auto Zone. It came up needing this part, which is a common problem for these Mazdas (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0049E1LY2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). Quick replacement. It's running well now. Thank you again.

I have an 06 sport. The owner before me cut the pipes and muffler off just after the catalytic converter.

I also bought the thrush welded muffler and used this adapter to fit it to the pipe.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0043DL69E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I then ran a 1 ft extension and a turn down. Originally I just had the extension, but without the turn down the rear axle / differential was really heating up (im in FL). So I added a turn down.

I have no problem with fumes, but it sounds awful. Anytime the MDS kicks in it drones and the muffler isn't really that loud.

by googling i get purge valve and purge valve solenoid. probably not the same?
i found this on amazon looking for purge valve: https://www.amazon.com/Dorman-911-700-Purge-Valve/dp/B0049E1LY2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481663636&sr=8-1&keywords=purge+valve+mazda+3

is this it?

u/noobidiot · 0 pointsr/cars

Well, it's just a muffler. For example, that was the first in my search. There are even cheaper out there.
