It wasn't just for the commercial. There's a series of albums that do lullaby versions of rock groups. Here's this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000IFSFYA

That whole Nightmare Revisited album is pretty great.

Take a look at the numerous posts on this sub about young children having trouble sleeping by themselves, and you'll see that your daughter is not a "little brat" but a completely normal kid struggling with the challenging (and often developmentally inappropriate) demands of independent sleeping -- on top of whatever other stressors may be going on in her life right now (new baby? starting kindergarten? etc). She's FIVE, of course she wants to sleep near an adult who makes her feel safe and comforted! If kids didn't have that instinct, we'd have all been eaten by wolves and died out long ago!

That said, there are certainly things you can do to work on building her confidence being alone at night. Think of it as problem-solving with her, giving her the skills to succeed, rather than trying to force her into compliance. I'll paste in what I wrote on another recent thread, hopefully some of this will be helpful:

> If he's experiencing separation anxiety (i.e. repeatedly coming out of his room to find you and your wife), talk about what might help him feel more comfortable staying in his bed. You could think about getting a special nightlight that he helps pick out, a dreamcatcher, glow-in-the-dark stars for his ceiling, etc. Teach him how to take deep belly breaths or tighten muscle groups one at a time (toes, then legs, then stomach, etc up to his face) to help him relax. This site has some great ideas for kids relaxation exercises, and there are several books such as Starbright and Imaginations which have relaxation stories you can read aloud (and this book features familiar fairytales retold as relaxation stories). There are also recordings of such stories you can download for him to listen to as he falls asleep, like Still Quiet Place, Indigo Dreams, and Bedtime Meditations for Kids. Listening to calming music can be good too.
>
>The nice thing about introducing a tool like these is that instead of "lay quietly in your bed" you can tell him to "lay quietly and listen to the music" or "lay quietly and watch the glow-in-the-dark stars on your ceiling" -- something positive for him to focus on. You can also talk about what fun things he'd like to do in his dreams, and help him imagine those happy thoughts; even agree to "meet up" and play together in your dreams so he won't feel like he's going to be alone all night. Again, this gives him something to focus on instead of thinking about trying to fall asleep.
>
>I should also add that if he's gotten used to having a parent with him to fall asleep, you may have to wean him from that support gradually. Maybe sit by his bed reading until he falls asleep, but not cuddle with him (after his bedtime routine); the next night, move your chair a bit further away. You can give him brief verbal reassurance that you're there, but remind him that it's time to lay quietly and listen to his music/watch his stars/think about playing in a treehouse in his dreams/whatever. Over time, you can move your chair further and further away until you're in the hallway, and then if necessary, offer to come check on him periodically until he falls asleep.

Ah, we have Raffi, but we also have stuff like Dog Train and Philadelphia Chickens. Music by Sandra Boyton, often employing celebrity talents for the songs. A few favorites are Snuggle Puppy, Boring Song, I Need A Nap (with Weird All & Kate Winslet), BusyBusyBusy, Dragonfire, Pig Island

You should really check out "They Might Be Giants" as well. :) They've started making children's music a few years ago. It may take a few listens for the songs to grow on you, but they are awesome. :)

The No! album has got some great songs, favs are Fibber Island, Violin, I Am Not Your Broom, The House At The Top Of The Tree

Be sure to peruse the "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought" section for some good ideas of similar whimsical modern kids music.

We like almost all the songs from Here Come The 123s quite a bit. Funny, whimsical music videos as well. Some of my daughter's long time favorites are One Everything, Triops Has Three Eyes, High Five, Seven, Hotdog. I like "Apartment Four" quite a bit.

All TMBG Childrens Music

Also check out the For The Kids albums. Great stuff. I've Got To Be Clean is a fav as well as La La La Lemon by Bare Naked Ladies.

And finally, Singin' In The Bathtub by John Lithgow. Very funny, silly and cheerful. :)

Hope this helps. :)

Might as well answer everyone's replies in one post. /u/subsonicmonkey /u/Peetal

I remember my 50th Anniversary Disneyland CD has "Space Mountain (Daytime Track) listed as one of the audio tracks (Disc 2, Track 10). Because of that I always thought there was a slight variation between the daytime and nighttime tracks. If it was standardized to just one audio track the whole day, then this would make sense why I could never tell the difference. :P

Any Disney historians able to clear this up for me?

u/skeenerbug · 3 pointsr/NetflixBestOf

It really is a modern classic. I remember dragging my parents to the theater to see it when it came out, and I still love it just as much. That love will be passed down to my little one when she's old enough to appreciate it.

Also, this is an awesome album I'm sure you'd appreciate if you don't already have it.

u/girldepeng · 3 pointsr/piano

I would get some good music for him to listen to. Exposing him to classical music now can have a huge positive effect on him if he takes lessons later. My father-in-law started playing classical music to my husband when he was a baby. I have studied piano in college, and have taught piano for 12 years, and my husband still has a better ear for music then I do.

I also think the idea of a music class for toddlers like kindermusik might be a good idea.

These CDs called "Beethoven's Wig" are a great way to introduce classical music to children. It play famous pieces with silly words, then includes the original version. http://www.amazon.com/Beethovens-Wig-Sing-Along-Symphonies/dp/B000060OLA

Is it this

I know you're looking more for mainstream music than children's songs, but Elizabeth Mitchell has produced some fantastic albums for kids. I'm not vocally talented by any means but I find her songs catch, easy to sing, and mellow enough to make into a lullaby. Here's my favorite album, which you can get for free if you have Prime. Tracks 4, 5, and 13 are my faves. :)

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/books

you should check out the album. its by the Gothic Archies (a.k.a Stephen Merrit; a.k.a the magnetic fields; a.k.a the future bible heroes; a.k.a. the sixths)

u/tribbletime · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Kalanz...you are awesome. So is claritin . Take it with a cup of coffee and you'll be high, flying adored...just like Evita.

Some Robin Thicke (mmm) would be cool. It's not a full album, but whatevs.

Tegan and Sara would be super dope.

So would the Official Album of Disneyland/Disney World

If you're like, ew tribble...those are wack. You can check out my Jamz wishlist.

u/littlebugs · 2 pointsr/AskParents

Puff the Magic Dragon, Renee and Jeremy's lullabies, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Baby Beluga. I made a lullaby channel on Pandora that introduced a few new ones to me.

Elizabeth Mitchell has some beautiful songs, as well as this compilation. (Hint: CDs can be checked out at your local library to test-drive.)

u/interplanetjanet · 2 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

By far, the most-used baby shower item that I received was this CD of lullabies from around the world. Both of my kids slept to that music every night for years, and my youngest still loves to listen to it while she sleeps. I listen to it myself sometimes.

5 month old comment. How did you end up here britishben? I didn't realise that Handler was on other Magnetic Fields albums. Anyway the album based off the books is called The Gothic Archies which is also the name of the band. The songs started as post scripts to the audio books. When the last book came out they released them all on one album.

Here's the Amazon link.

I hope it isn't presumptious of me to give you the UK Amazon link. Have a good day.

We did some guided meditations from these books -

Starbright

and eventually ended up with this CD (and a couple of other similar ones on his mp3 player)

Indigo Dreams

My son's biggest problem with sleep is quieting his mind down, and at 13 we're still struggling with it.

u/vi-ruu · 1 pointr/Flipping

Does anyone know where to sell Simpson's collectors items? I have this thing still shrink-wrapped and no clue how to offload it. I thought it was pretty neat but I guess not (my older brother bought it ages ago and left it behind when he moved out, so no losses here).

u/Zackismet · 1 pointr/reddit.com

My mom got me this when I was a kid. I have every one of those songs memorized.

** Holy shit, I just opened up my old CD box where I don't have anything in its case to try and find it, and it was poking out of the middle of the stack... just waiting for me.

u/guinnessmom · 1 pointr/Parenting

or here. I had to add Nirvana to the search

The Simpsons Sing The Blues

We ended up buying the CD because we thought it was a little record. Then we brought it home and didn't know what to do with it. I remember my dad buying the tape the next day, but we ended up keeping the CD. Then like 2 years later when we got a CD player, we rocked that shit.

u/hereiamtosavetheday_ · 1 pointr/relationship_advice

The mom will already have a good selection of board books, I'm willing to bet. Most parents are happy to have something quiet to do with baby, and its okay if pages get torn - that's what tape is for. Teaching a child how to handle books early means you don't have to live through the destructive paper-tearing phase. I nannied for nearly 20 years; its all about warping their defenseless little minds with civilizing pre-sets. :)

Another choice is a CD or a book combo -- John Lithgow did one of the best, I've gifted this a dozen times, its a pick-me-up big band thing. https://www.amazon.com/Singin-Bathtub-John-Lithgow/dp/B00000I8A3#customerReviews

This has some wicked talent on every song, big name actors with really interesting voices, and the lyrics are by Boynton, so any kid with ears is going to be able to sing them within minutes. I know all these songs. There's a lot of style variety and there are chattering aardvarks, which is always a nice touch. https://www.amazon.com/Philadelphia-Chickens-Sandra-Boynton/dp/B0001ADB6Y/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=children+boynton&qid=1555922081&refinements=p_n_binding_browse-bin%3A387645011&rnid=387643011&s=music&sr=1-3#customerReviews

This is an awesome collection of lullabies from around the world that my kids have listened to while they sleep since they were babies. Sometimes I play it in my bedroom as well.

u/fduniho · 1 pointr/Jazz

I didn't really appreciate Kind of Blue the first time I heard it, though I did grow to like it later. Both Kind of Blue and Time Out are good albums, but the artist who actualy got me into jazz is Artie Shaw. Based on that, I would recommend big band swing. Bug Music by Don Byron could be a good one. It includes contemporary recordings of works by Raymond Scott, Duke Ellington, and some others.

If you know something about what music the people in question are already into, you could choose jazz that appeals to that musical interest.

For classical, Foxie by Bob James or nearly anything by Opera Swing Quartet or Jacques Loussier would be good.

For new age, nearly anything by Keiko Matsui. I started with No Borders.

For rock, I Got No Kick Against Modern Jazz: A GRP Artist's Celebration of the Songs of the Beatles.

u/HotPawcket · 1 pointr/Music

nevermind, found it!

u/Walstiber · 1 pointr/gratefuldead

DUDE! They also played that tune on a Ren & Stimpy episode (the wrestling one) I was on a quest to find out what tune that was for YEARS. Literally took ages to find out (early internet days ya know) I finally stumbled across it and bought a newer remake called "Bug Music" by Don Byron that had the song Powerhouse and some others. Glad to find someone else who got hooked on that song.
Now back to our regular Grateful Dead content :)

The Beethovens Wig collection is AWESOME, my charges love them. There are 4 of them and they are so much fun:

http://www.amazon.com/Beethovens-Wig-Sing-Along-Symphonies/dp/B000060OLA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416081967&sr=8-1&keywords=beethovens+wig

Warning though, it will ruin classical music for you forever! All I hear now when listening to the 5th symphony is "Beethoven's wig...it's really biiiiig.." But they can be educational too, they will throw in the name of the composer and other stuff into the song.

EDIT to add: They Might Be Giants has a ton of cute (and educational) kid songs as well. We took my son to see the kids show live. When the kids were really little they loved The Wiggles (are they still around? lol). I also second Raffi, which someone mentioned.

u/BlueVerse · 1 pointr/WaltDisneyWorld

The soundtrack for Illuminations and the Tapestry parades was released by Disney as a CD.

It's not still in print, of course, but copies pop up on eBay from time to time and some Amazon sellers always pretty reasonable rates on lightly used copies. Definitely worth finding one!

u/cobaltcollapse · 1 pointr/tipofmytongue

maybe something from this?
