Nope, sold separately. It's a really nice guide. Hardbound, awesome artwork, really well done.

Where do you think people learned stuff like "hold your DS upside down" or the fact you have to nickname your Regice and have it hold a nevermeltice to summon Regigigas? It sure isn't trial and error.

If you like these kinds of books I also reccomend the hardcore gaming 101 books.

http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/category/books/

I didn't see this one there but they also did one on adventure games: https://www.amazon.com/Hardcoregaming101-net-Presents-Classic-Graphic-Adventures/dp/146095579X

u/HighPaineTolerance · 5 pointsr/gamedev

Actually you're in luck!

James Silva, the developer of Salt and Sanctuary, got his start making hack and slash games for XBox 360 using XNA and he wrote a full book, step by step detailing every aspect of his development process, including (as far as I remember) AI! You can find his book here.

While the book is dedicated to the XNA development pipeline, I found it really, really informative when I was trying to get into game development. I would highly recommend you check it out if you are interested in developing a game like Salt and Sanctuary.

Hey, a while back I too decided to learn UDK, I ended up finding a good book(http://www.amazon.com/Unreal-Development-Game-Programming-UnrealScript/dp/1849691924/ref=pd_sim_b_1) on it. This book does a great job of showing the unrealscript side of things and really helped me get my feet of the ground. Not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for, but I hope it help!

It's fantastic, absolutely worth the money IMO. It's only $20 on Amazon here:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0744015472?ie=UTF8&camp=213733&creative=393185&creativeASIN=0744015472&linkCode=shr&tag=epi0f0-20

That's the link from ENB's video detailing the guide.

It does only have thumbnails for the weapons, but they're pretty good sized, and it also includes all the item descriptions as well.

The walkthrough section is great - the maps in particular are extremely handy. It also includes a section detailing every enemy and boss for each area.

For negatives, it suffers from the occasional bit of outdated information, which is common to basically all hardcopy guides nowadays. I've also noticed a few typos and misspellings, but that's more of aesthetic quibble.

u/joeswindell · 5 pointsr/gamedev

I'll start off with some titles that might not be so apparent:

Unexpected Fundamentals

These 2 books provide much needed information about making reusable patterns and objects. These are life saving things! They are not language dependent. You need to know how to do these patterns, and it shouldn't be too hard to figure out how to implement them in your chosen language.

u/MyMindWontQuiet · 4 pointsr/warcraftlore

> geared towards those with knowledge of the Warcraft universe, those without knowledge, or both.

Neither, or both. You don't need any prior knowledge to read it, it's like (well, it literally is) an encyclopedia and it explains you all the basic stuff.

However it doesn't contain the lastest information from Chronicle.

If you want to buy it, buy the new version.

u/PhatJohny · 4 pointsr/hearthstone

UDK has its own language called Unreal Script. It has some influence from Java and C++ but also has big portions that is unique to itself.

There are a few books and a good amount of information on Unreal Script.

Unreal Script Home
Learn Programming With Unreal Script
Unreal Development Kit Game Programming with UnrealScript: Beginner's Guide

A Google search will show you some more as well.

u/RocAway · 4 pointsr/wow

My brother got me this book, it's more of an artbook, not some grand tome like you're describing but it covers most parts of the lore. But it's also only up to MoP I believe.

If you want more detailed info on specific aspects of the lore I'd check out the Chronical books.

u/iamstephen · 4 pointsr/classicwow

I think I have what he or she is talking about. It's by Brady Games. Here is one on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/World-Warcraft-Master-Guide-Second/dp/0744008190/

The book was great. Gave you tons of information on ever race and class. Also in depth details on all of the zones, dungeons, and raids at that time. There was a whole thick section in the back (I believe) that had all of the rares in the game and what abilities they used. A great read, especially on the toilet!

u/akarimatsuko · 4 pointsr/godot

So I made this: http://imgur.com/a/vPsOM

It's the Kindle DX, Kindle Touch, and the Kindle app on a Nexus 7. All have the smallest font.

They are both in the amazon store (so, MOBI/AZW files, not PDFs). The two books are

Hardcoregaming101.net Presents: The Guide to Classic Graphic Adventures

and

Structures: Or Why Things Don't Fall Down

So they all look great (ignore the crappy cellphone camera quality). I think it's interesting for the Structures one, the DX does not manage to fit both figures on the page, but does for the N7. Also something to keep in mind, the Kindle app does not zoom in on pictures when you change the text size. You have to select it and choose the zoom option. Interesting how on the DX they are huge. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I still haven't figured out what to do with mine. On a completely unrelated note, does anyone else want to buy the special edition guide book just for the firefly keychain? I'd definitely sport that thing on my lanyard.

The term "Clearly communicated to the player" and the souls series dont even inhabit the same universe. Half the fun are those "OHHHH, I see ..." moments.

If you order from Amazon, you can get it cheaper than that, just in case you decide to buy it. For the record, I did.

u/AxiomVerge · 3 pointsr/wiiu

I don't know. James Silva wrote a book that at least two developers I know swear by (https://www.amazon.com/Building-XNA-2-0-Games-Professionals/dp/1430209798), and there used to be a lot of gems over in Shawn Hargreave's blog (https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/shawnhar/)

u/jamie_cross · 3 pointsr/godot

Post this in another thread today:

These might be listed below but here are a few I've been following as a newbie too:

Can get it in decent condition for $4 from third party sellers. Internet is more useful (and quest addons) but fun just to flip through when you're bored

u/291540 · 3 pointsr/udk

This is good if you're willing to spend money.

Edit: You should also look up youtube videos for learning how to make the maps and stuff. (That book is mainly for Unrealscript)

u/ClydeFrogsDrugDealer · 3 pointsr/gaming

So everyone here is going to pretend like lengthy manuals came with the game itself? I remember purchasing game manuals for Pokémon Blue, Ocarina of Time, Halo: Combat Evolved, etc. Always separate but prominent within the section. Even now I can say I own the 544 page VDSG! Amazon link, but I bought mine at a local comic book store. Come on now...don't bandwagon without researching. Also pay no attention to that bolded "condensed edition" right on the cover..

u/TuskyHusky · 3 pointsr/gamedev

My personal advice would be to learn some regular old Programming first. Jumping straight into UnrealScript and Gameplay Programming is kinda like trying to build a House without ever having touched a work tool.

Theres lots of stuff you need to understand from a basic level, and while it might be possible to throw together some very simple mechanics currently, the quality is gonna seriously suffer. A bit like my first shed

But if you seriously want to just jump into it head first: Unreal Development Kit Gems by Rachel Cordone might be somewhat useful

u/Amauriel · 3 pointsr/tipofmytongue

I dug through the Index of my copy of [Classic Graphic Adventures] (http://www.amazon.com/Hardcoregaming101-net-Presents-Classic-Graphic-Adventures/dp/146095579X) and came up with a couple of possibilities:

I'm guessing it's Pepper's Adventures in Time but there's a chance it could be Lost in Time as well. If it isn't either of these, I'll go through the index again and see if anything else stands out.

Amazon US already has a listing for the SwSh strategy guide.

TPC has been listed as the publisher of the last few guides. Even though Prima may have created the guides, I don't see their name on them. So, I'm not sure who is publishing the new strats -- maybe Random House proper?

u/JoingoJon · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Blimey. That's a thin book for Skyrim. The one i have has 1200 pages

u/JackSparrowUSA · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

This is the one I'm looking at. I believe Skyrim Special Edition as its known, is the most recently remastered complete release.

https://www.amazon.com/Elder-Scrolls-Skyrim-Special-Collectors/dp/0744017831

u/bizziboi · 2 pointsr/gamedev

Most overlooked book and so directly what you want:

http://www.amazon.com/Building-XNA-2-0-Games-Professionals/dp/1430209798/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1320731822&sr=8-1

Literally explains how Dishwasher Samurai was made, levels, collision detection, animation, combo system, weapons, effects, the works.

Does assume some programming background (it's not a programming tutorial) but I haven't seen anything that went deeper in into the subject than this.

Extremely highly recommended.

(well, okay, it's not about tilebased levels but art based which is much more relevant nowadays. When you got down what's in the book you shouldn't have too much trouble coming up with a tilemap solution)

u/BradPatt · 2 pointsr/thelastofus

If you want the guide for X/X-2 it's $20, Ebay, Amazon.

u/ybtlamlliw · 2 pointsr/skyrim

Actually, I think it's the game guide, not the art book.

This is its listing on Amazon. I could've swore there was an art book; I remember seeing one when I was at B&N a couple weeks ago.

There's an additional 32 pages in the "Surviving As A Witcher" portion of the guide, an additional intro section entitled "Gwent: A Game of Cards" (goes over game basics and all cards), etc.
As for Main Game content, it seems to be exactly the same. What I meant by being more in depth (poor word choice really) was that it had more content and delved deeper into the game in regards to the DLC. Unfortunately, the entire art section from the C.E. release is gone.

""Amazon 3rd parties have them starting at $19 + $3.99 shipping." Is that the hardback edt.?" Yeah... here's the link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/0744017211/ref=tmm_other_meta_binding_new_olp_sr?ie=UTF8&condition=new&qid=1472796629&sr=8-1

Chronicle is great. Just be aware that it only covers what happens before Warcraft I, so you won't learn about the story of WoW expansions.

Well, a few days ago there was a thread discussing the Gamescom event Blizz announced. We now know that is will be the cinematic and the release date announcement, but one poster said that if it is the cinematic then be prepared for a pre-Blizzcon release, and then /u/Naturalhighz posted a link to the BradyGames signature strategy guide which has a release date of September 23rd. Now, it's easy to just dismiss that (I did at first), but then Naturalhighz also points out, "well this company has been right on every single release except tbc where they were off by 1 day." That's a pretty good track record.

Then there is this video by BellularGaming discussing potential release dates, and he figures on a September 23rd release, and discusses why this is possible, as well as preferable over a November or December release.

Then there are a few other logical arguments I've seen:

  • The last time we got new content was in Spetember 2013. As we just saw from their earnings report, WoW is losing more and more subscribers. They need to give people reasons to come back and/or stay subscirbed.

  • Blood elves were announced to not be ready for launch. Now, this is pure speculation because we have no idea how long it really takes for these player model updates, but if they had 3-4 months left doesn't it seem like they should be able to finish them? This points to an earlier release.

  • They just announced the 10 year anniversary event. They specifically avoid mentioning if max level will be 90 or 100 in November, but it makes more sense that it will be 100. If the new MC is tuned to level 90 then players may only play it for maybe a week before the expansion would definitely be out and it would be ruined by people leveling. It seems much more likely that this new MC will be tuned for level 100. This would also mean that players will need time to get to level 100, so an early November release becomes unlikely, which means the release is before Blizzcon. And if the release is before Blizzcon then it needs to be a good few weeks before or the Blizzcon schedule would mess up the flow of the expansion. September 23rd would be about 6 weeks before Blizzcon, giving a good amount of time.

Now, none of these arguments are bulletproof. Even all of them combined does not allow us to be certain. The release date could still be later. Though I'm almost positive it won't be in November because it creates too many issues with the new Molten Core, which would mean December, and that would mean 14 months with no new content.

Regardless, we'll find out in a week.

edit: Oh, and I forgot to mention that blue posts have been constantly saying that class balance tuning is one of the last things they do in an expansion, and the most recent beta build just happened to have a ton of class balance changes.

Never seen the third book but it looks like it could be helpful. I used this book to help me learn materials and other stuff, about 5 months ago, and its still pretty relevant. If you want to learn unreal script(custom c++ in the engine) then [this] (http://www.amazon.com/Unreal-Development-Game-Programming-UnrealScript/dp/1849691924) is the best book by a long shot. The UDK forums are also a great place to get help, especially the programming section on the forums.

The Barnes and Nobles books, although licensed, are not made by anyone working on the Pokémon Games. I have one and it has tons of errors and such. If you like a physical copy of a strat guide (like I do), I recommend this one

It's very detailed and even has FFX-2 in there too.

'Course, this is me assuming you're talking about the HD Remaster. There are a few things different in the original... But Bradygames also makes one of the original so you have options.

u/raspberrykraken · 1 pointr/DarkSouls2

The Dark Souls 2 guide from Future Press has everything in the book not including DLC and the upcoming game update on February 5th. You can get it on Amazon right now for less than $20.

This is the only written source to date... if you ignore the wiki's poor form in lore. Because not only is it hard to look through but there is just endless spelling, grammar errors and the people who wrote it on the site don't know how to actually write very well.

u/doxydejour · 1 pointr/Fallout

First off, you are good peoples.

Secondly, the best place to check would be Etsy - there are handmade Fallout items on there for just about everything, from clothing to household items. You could ask him in general about the game(s) and see if he mentions any particular favourite characters/factions and get merchandise associated with them.

Or you could go the official route and consider:

u/behindtimes · 1 pointr/pcgaming

I never said they were niche and not niche. I said adventure games are niche in today's context, but during the 80s and early 90s, they were one of the bigger genres.

For example, if an audience for computer games consists of 100k people who all play adventure games, adventure games are not niche. Now that audience grows into 100 million people, but only the same 100k people play adventure games, it becomes niche.

And, as I previously stated, genre killers tend to be popular, and you get lots of copycats. And if we're basing it off

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_graphic_adventure_games

it's 227 games from 1994-2002, 73 of which came within the next two years. Then, take into account that several of these games never actually made it over to the USA (as well as that list containing what can be at best a dubious example of being a classical adventure game). Being an adventure game fan, I had to import many from Europe (e.g. Discworld Noir nor Simon the Sorcerer 3D & 4 were released in the USA). And it's missing quite a few games contained within The Guide to Classic Graphic Adventures.

Nor am I saying adventure games didn't get praise. Grim Fandango won quite a few awards for being a good game, but that didn't stop it from being one of the last LucasArts graphical adventure games. You had other games such as The Last Express by Brøderbund get extremely positive reviews, but that didn't stop it from having a 6 month shelf life before it was out of print.

Oh god, this guidebook is a must.

Very nice, I got my hands on the official one that comes with the strategy guide:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Limited-Edition-Strategy-Guide-Brady/dp/074401493X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381505444&sr=8-1&keywords=the+last+of+us+strategy+guide

Very nice guide and the pendant has a great finish

I hope things go well for you in Army training. I assume when you say Army, you mean the Army branch as opposed to USMC.

Go Army.

My Entry. TLOU Strategy Guide as it includes a keychain and it'll be a while before I can get the game anyway.

You'll be receiving a gift from me when I get my first paycheck. Anyone who fights for our country deserves wonderful gifts.

Hey, thanks for the tips!
About the book - do you mean the author of GD quest on YT?
I also found "Godot Game Engine Development in 24 Hours" (https://www.amazon.com/Godot-Engine-Development-Hours-Yourself/dp/0134835093) - did you bump into it? What are your opinions?

u/vmpajares · 1 pointr/gamedev

This book disagree
https://www.amazon.com/Godot-Engine-Development-Hours-Yourself/dp/0134835093

Obviously I don't expect that nobody learn it in 24 hours but you can learn all the basics in 24 lessons

It's this one. Because of the added shipping costs and it's value, I'd probably be looking for ~15-18 for it.

u/loveableLamprey · 1 pointr/fo4

Don't know if you already found them or not, but they're the lithographs that came from the collector's edition strategy guide.

I'm the same, I like to collect the guides. I pre-ordered the one on amazon when I pre-ordered the games.

The amount of information in this guide is surreal, only caveat is that it's a book, though it was a prominent one back in the day

Here's amazon link

I really thought I would have enough money on this week's paycheck to pick up Alpha Sapphire. Any generous trainer out there have a spare code?

The only thing I can think of to offer right now (kinda random) is the Ni No Kuni guide book (http://www.amazon.com/Ni-No-Kuni-Wrath-Official/dp/030789598X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416687005&sr=8-1&keywords=ni+no+kuni+guide). It's hard cover and in great condition. I'll ship it to you. =]

Amazon UK has it as well. The limited edition is cheaper then the standard.

They also have thelimited edition hardcover guide.

My money is on Sept 23rd. Amazon Guide Link The company that sells the guide is given a heads up on teh release date, and the last time they had an accurate date before the announcement. Basically, the timeline fits, beta has already started testing raids, level cap is 100, and they announced a short 6.0 PTR.
