Like any "treatment" that people use to deal with IBS, everyone's reaction is different. Everyone's IBS is different. Probiotics have helped a lot of people, including myself, but it also doesn't for a lot of people. Probiotics also take a lot of trial and error. There are so many brands and strains out there. Personally, Align did nothing for me but these made a huge difference. IBS is not a definitive diagnosis, it's just what doctors call it when they have ruled out everything else.

My first guess would be Clostridium butyricum, which is a popular probiotic in asian countries. I found this one, which I guess I'll try. Would be nice to know more.
:My biggest travel triggers are eating rich foods and not enough fluid intake. I guess it depends if you are C, D or M. I was 20 years C and always took daily Miralax and drank tons of water. Now I'm M. I have 2 weeks in Hawaii coming up and plan on waking the tightrope using Immodium, tiny doses of Dulcolax, and I've recently started Metamucil wafers, half dose in AM and other half in PM. These are probably not the greatest choice. You want something with research proving its efficacy. The wrong strains in the wrong amounts can and will make things worse. A similar probiotic actually sent me straight from moderate IBS-C to relentless D.

Even with the right probiotic, this is to be expected. You don't change the composition of your microbiome overnight and unsurprisingly most trials show an initial aggravation of symptoms before relief.
So which probiotic should you take? The strain with the most research into its efficacy is B. infantis 35624, which is only available through Align. I recommend you give that a shot for at least a few weeks.
I'll third this comment. Whole Psyllium Husk makes you nice and regular...almost life changing and I'm not exaggerating. It's also good to take with water about 30 minutes before a meal to fill you up before you eat. Though a word of warning, it swells in water...great for filling up your stomach but if you let it sit it will swell up before you drink it and then you'll have to eat it like cream of wheat.
I recommend working your way up from 1 tablespoons to 2 then to 3...if you increase the dose too fast, your body biome won't acclimate properly and you'll get loose shits and instead of nice logs. The cheapest I've found is the Now Whole Psyllium Husk on Amazon.
I also use the Now Probiotic.. I'm now very regular with a good BM or two everyday and no more IBS or hemorrhoids.
Flaxseed meal has a lot of fiber. You can put it in cottage cheese, or you can make One Minute Muffins, and do lots of other things with it. Even making a sort of porridge with it.
One of my go-to things is this. I will either put it in my occasional protein shakes or make a pancake with it. Recipe is super duper easy. Mix one egg and one rounded tsp of the stuff. Done. I'll multiply that by 3 and make a big pancake.

It definitely makes the water thicker and it has kind of a nutty flavor to it, but I kind of like that. I'll usually drink it slowly over about 30 minutes in the evening. You really do need to make sure you drink alot of water with it though as the water makes the fiber swell, and it can be a choking hazard if you don't drink at least 8oz of water with it. Like I said, I usually mix it into at least 0.5L.
I second the use of Candida Support it is not strong enough to kill yeart but it weakens it so your body can control it. You should also use consentrated probiotic pills Probiotis each pill has 10 different bacteria from 3 different family's of bacteria. Acidophilus alone wont cut it. Finally Stop eating Kefir and Kombucha, at least for the time being. Both are SCOBY's , Symbiotic cultures of Bacteria and Yeast. Your pumping you system with more yeast. Finaly help your system expel the weakend yeast enzymes yeast make sticky biofilms to protect the colonies. So I recently ordered some psyllium husk as high protein + inconsistent fiber intake is a recipe for occasional trouble internally.
So today I was making a post-workout shake while responding to work email on my phone, and just looked at the box quick to double check the serving size as that was how i already had it logged previously in my tracking, and I always add my shake ingredients while the blender container is on the food scale. Somewhere in the 10 sec between confirming what was on the box, and actually adding to the blender, my mind went 'yeah 20g, thats right' ... but its 5g, 20 cal... lets just say i had to go back and add an additional cup and a half of almond milk to my tracking in order to thin out the mix enough (cause I mean, I wasn't about to throw it out when its already blended up) to get it down.
Upside is, for anyone worried about not feeling full when drinking calories, I found an answer for that... I think dinner is going to be much later than normal
First I agree with everyone here that you should confirm that you indeed have a UTI and its not something else. That said I used to get recurrent UTI's and there was a point I had a standing prescription for antibiotics. It was the worst - what helped me was this probiotic and of course keeping up with the Azo cranberry. Havent had one in like 4 years phew. Again do not take antibiotics at will and without supervision - antibiotic drug resistance is a real danger. Also cleaning up my diet helped. Hope you feel better!

One thing I was thinking about with Hashi's is that absence of antibodies doesn't always mean no Hashi's. I mean, if my antibodies went all the way away due to treatment, that doesn't take away the diagnosis, and doesn't mean that I am "cured". It would just mean my Hashi's wasn't active.
This doesn't mean that if your ultrasound comes back normal and your full thyroid panel comes back fine that you should act as though you do have Hashi's, just that, it can't be ruled out just because at the moment your antibodies were low. But I really think that the Celiac thing is worth thinking about. Despite medicating hypothyroidism, the vast majority of my pretty recent recovery came after removing gluten and soy from my diet.

If she is willing to try the probiotics, you should couch PIV sex for maybe a month or two and see how she is feeling on the probiotics.

Are you sure it isn't your tonsils? I used to have very bad breath (read: rotting smell) and it was because I had tonsil stones. I had my tonsils removed (I was on medicaid at the time to pay for it) and my breath improved dramatically. Before I had them removed before I was on medicaid, I would irrigate my tonsils using an oral irrigator syringe filled with hydrogen peroxide, but let me warn you that you need to be careful doing this as you don't want to make yourself bleed too much, and the peroxide feels pretty terrible on your tonsils (it doesn't hurt, it is just irritating to have something bubbling there).

My IBS primarily manifests with fatigue / brain fog symptoms - or at least, that's the symptom that's most difficult to manage. For example, where a medium amount of an unsafe food will cause digestive symptoms, a much smaller amount can cause brain fog to an extent that interferes significantly with work and personal life.
I've found the best way for me to manage this is by consuming a very low fiber and near-zero-sugar diet - based originally on the low-FODMAP diet, but much more strict. I am able to eat many complex carbs, most commonly potatoes and rice (white or quick-cook brown). This requires cooking nearly all of my meals, and being extremely careful about what I eat at restaurants - asking a lot of questions.
I depend heavily on lactase enzyme for any dairy-containing foods, as well as alpha-galactosidase for breaking down traces of garlic or onion as well as small amounts of select vegetables.
I do find that I am slightly more able to tolerate fiber and sugar in the evening, but only because the fatigue they generate happens while I am asleep, and thus affects me less. (Too much will still give me fatigue and even hangover-like symptoms the next morning, though.)
Probiotics are hit or miss. While many seem to help with digestion, none seem to have made much difference in terms of brain fog, and a few have made that worse. Currently taking AOR-3 with no negative effect -

If it's just one meal, you got to divide my thirds obviously. I make batches of 5 and use them for breakfast in the morning with a half cup of frozen fruit.
Probiotics are frequently taken by people who have IBD, and I've taken quite a few. Dr. Ohhira's is well-regarded from everything I've read over the years and it's part of my my go-to regimen when I start to have symptoms or when someone in my family takes antibiotics.

Acidophilus is just one strain of beneficial bacteria. You can get a cheap probiotic at walmart with one or two strains but I buy Dr. Ohiras online. It has 14 live strains in reasonable amounts. Some people like to blast their bodies with probiotic but your body doesn't need 25 billion probiotics so the rest get flushed out anyway. I used to have yeast infections and thrush all the time and probiotics are the only thing that helped long term. The single strain cheapies really didn't do much for me.

You probably know about the cardio stuff of target heart rate. It's based on your resting heart rate, age, and such. I sometimes only speed walk / run for 20 minutes at the gym but that's more than enough to bring all that happy juice. :)

I am quite positive that some nutrients are more biologically available due to the action of intestinal bacteria however I cant remember which ones. I think you should first define the weight your talking about. I think it this case you could have weight gain from fluid retention from swelling and inflammation, weight loss from fluid loss from diarrhea. you can have both going on at once. Weight loss as in the release or storage of lipids by fat cells can also be influenced by gut bacteria. Bacteria can interfere with the response to leptin causing weight gain. Now your question about disrupting. There are big issues with that. There are hundreds of different bacteria and yeast in your system some are beneficial some are pathogenic some others are beneficial until there are to many then they become pathogenic. Not to mention disrupting the bacteria with anti-biotics can lead to a Yeast imbalance as like candida are not bacteria but fungus. Yeast imbalances are also not simple to treat because yeast are more like animals then they are like bacteria anti-fungal agents are as toxic to people as they are to yeast. Hey there, we have very similar ages, weights, and bowel problems! I am still trying to figure out some of my issues, but my main triggers are caffeine, alcohol, fried foods, and STRESS. I also get terrible stomach aches from higher fat foods like avocados and nut butters. Even when I avoid these completely I still have some problems. I mix a heaping tablespoon with a full glass of water after dinner every night. It helps clean out the colon and "bulk up" poo so you are more regular and have less diarrhea. It makes going to the bathroom so much easier for me. I still have problems sometimes, but it's nice to only have diarrhea twice per week rather than 10 times. I've read a lot about psyllium online; most people rave about it but some people say it can make things like bloating and diarrhea worse.
Wow, at the risk of going full shill circle here, one of my best friends has a corn allergy and swears that a probiotic has helped. He gave me a bottle which I still have because when I tried it it gave me severe diarrhea. I suppose everyone is different, but he swears by it.

I may be jumping to conclusions, but i presume that your 1200 calorie diet is an attempt at weight loss? infrequent stools are very common when losing weight on that sort of calorie deficit. Also, i used to have the metamucil wafers but they're extremely high on calories/fructose and so i switched to this. It doesn't really taste like anything and i have a few teaspoons of it with water in the morning. It's just pure husk. pm me if you have any other questions! :)
Looks good to me. All I can think of if you're trying to mimic Ketochow exactly would be to replace the psyllium husk with acacia gum and maybe some xanthan gum.
I was told by my doctor 2-3 times daily. I eat a lot of fiber and that helps, but there's something with the PPIs that messes with the consistency of my stools. I take this supplement and it helps too.

S. Boulardii has been excellent for me, and is much cheaper than VSL 3. also cut dairy out of my diet last year. between S. Boulardii and cutting dairy out, symptoms have improved quite a bit. just have to get a bit better at managing my eating habits....

There are many available in pill form. I've had them prescribed after going through an antibiotic treatment, since they kill beneficial bacteria as well as dangerous bacteria.

I’m two months into a probiotic from RenewLife and I really like it. On my second month I switched to their “women’s” formula and it seems a little more improved than the regular one. I have some pretty weird GI issues anyway, but the probiotic has definitely helped my digestive system feel more “normal” than it has for a while.

My suggestion is use whatever you like in taste and whatever you can afford, and add some fiber to it. You can probably find a fiber source from anywhere, but I add a teaspoon of fiber (5grams) for each 30 grams of protein. Other fiber in your diet should improve it as well.

Other replier is correct, probiotics promote healthy gut bacteria. Adults sometimes take these too, especially if they have taken broad-spectrum antibiotics, wiping out some of their good bacteria along with the bad and causing digestive problems.
Babies only start developing gut bacteria after they are born (breast milk contains it to help them!) and the probiotics are meant to help with that process. There are some studies demonstrating their effectiveness.

I think dstam has a really good point. Antibiotics kill the good gut flora and make it much easier for yeast to get out of balance. It sounds like you're doing all the right things with the wash routine. As long as it's okay with your Pediatrician I'd also give your LO some probiotics. I've heard about this problem before, of things getting a bit off after receiving semen. I have also heard of people using capsulized boric acid to treat mild BV (search for it in /r/sex, pretty sure I read about it here initially) -- but not Vitamin C.
Anyway, you may be getting into a cart before horse thing. Not all bad smells are going to be a result of BV, and you could potentially do more to avoid the presumed microbial imbalance that is resulting in the smells.
I've been seeing someone with a vasectomy, and having seen this issue pop up in /r/sex before, I was a little nervous about getting smellz down there as a result. What I have been doing is the following:
I imagine that other aspects of bodily chemistry (his and yours too; not sure how BC might affect your vaginal microbiome) so your mileage may vary. But I would try sticking a finger in there to clear it out before you stick Vitamin C in there?

My feeling is that if I'm digesting something multiple times a day, I should be able to see exactly what it's composed of. Everything else I eat, I know the composition... what not something that I'd plan on using as a staple of my diet. And, generally, I find that "proprietary" means the product is loaded with cheap ingredients and dusted lightly with the more expensive ingredients.
